It's better to manually blend using a tool or low opacity layer building (you can use a texture brush for this too and it looks great. I started doing trad and im enjoying texture a lot. I might try to incorporate it into my digital work soon but idk yet.) Airbrush is good for giant bgs or big gradients but most people like me use it too much Play with AO and SSS. It's fun, use a black and white filter to check values.
