What was the best, most productive drawing exercise you've ever done? I'm not talking about making finished work, but a way to practice. In Japan, plaster cast drawing seems to be "the way". but I'm wondering what "the way" is for (you), anon-kun
>>7434175>In Japan, plaster cast drawing seems to be "the way"Wasn't it Loomis? Post proof mateAs for the question: gesture
>>7434197it's kinda hard if you don't speak Japanese, but the way you get into ANY art school in Japan is still plaster cast drawing. read the blue period manga if you needhttps://www.youtube.com/@ena_bijutsu/videoshttps://www.youtube.com/@ochabiweb/videoshttps://www.youtube.com/@shonabi_ch/videoshttps://www.youtube.com/@koyo7852/videosalso, Loomis recommends plaster cast drawing.
>>7434175>lust provoking image>time wasting, irrelevant question
>the waybaseless assumptions like these are why you are low iqyou dont even know why they do plaster castshint: it's not because it's "the way"hiding thread
>>7434227All of these look like art gallery/attelier style education tho. Cast drawing is like, the most classical thing possible for these schools.>Loomis recommends castsYeah, but he doesn't (I think) phrase it as "the way", it's just an useful practice to get started. You should, if you are a beg, draw shit in simple and proper lighting, that's the point of casts. You can achieve the same by drawing using old noir movies, photos of sculptures or even figurines, doesn't matter. It's also, really really beg stuff. It doesn't teach you most of the stuff you achieve anything.
>>7434175Following along with realism challenges on youtube like with Mark CrilleyKim Jung Gi's 3d box exercise where you draw 3d shapes and then draw a figure inside of themAlso this videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T7cDY7YDsg
>>7434227wtf do i do if i don't have a plaster cast i'm too old for art school
>>7435732>Mark CrilleyI thought you were based, moai anon
>>7435875This was years ago but it helped me improve so I wont apologize. He's a wholesome guy and a very good artist.
>>7435907fair, but i followed his tutorials too and didn't improve and it made me quit for almost 10 years (back from 2012). for every one person he helps he mades 99 others quit
>>7435914I think for me years back when I followed along with the realism eye challenges something clicked and it kinda gave me a better understanding of how actual eyes look which helped me draw them/simplified/stylized. That's why I specified it though you don't need him in particular, it's just his advice which helped. Doing realism/great master studies and trying to make it as accurate as possible feels really daunting but having someone do it step by step in a way where you can follow along and apply it. I think it's solid advice that should work for most people. Even if you're like me where you see a billion eyelashes/tree branches and think.. "how do I draw that? it's just too much detail" lol
A design grind:A little pencil scribbling, then a bunch of pen.https://youtu.be/1OSWR7xiQLk?si=mwjhyP4hyFEnsI89rdg0nr
>>7434175When i used to do art streams, nothing motivated me more than knowing people were enthusiastic about watching and wed chat and spitball ideas and banter about shit>making drawing a pleasurable experience
>>7434175>plaster cast drawing seems to be "the way"I think it has more to do with the fact live nude model is less accessible. Drawing from sculptures and plasters is not a Japan-exclusive thing. I think there are just a lot more poor whores and dancers in the West, that's why you have more nude drawing sessions open to the general public.
>>7434175Draw from live. start by everything within your room then work your way until you go outside to draw nature. I learn so much on my own just by studying real life objects, plants, bugs, animals and people.

>>7434175>What was the best, most productive drawing exercise you've ever done?Unironically jerking off. Usually a good goon session loosens me up and I can draw much better.
>>7436484>>7436525dumb replies that don't deserve (you)'s. I really really shouldn't be replying to you guys, but I felt that I ought to let you know just how dumb your replies were. fucking dumbasses
