I have no idea what I'm doing when I make these. I don't even know what to ask in order to get better. Everyone in my life lies to me to be nice so I can't get any kind of real feedback on what I'm doing right or wrong, and I don't know what questions I should be asking on here so I get ignored.

Should I just give up? Really love the hobby, but I have no one in my life willing to give me honest feedback, and I'm too stupid to automatically know what I need to do to get better. I enjoy drawing but I'm never going to improve, and even if I did it's a hobby and doesn't matter. I'm cooked here right?

Does it really look OK? All I see is all the shit I got wrong.
>>

looks cool desu. this is very abstract though so i'm not so sure how to critique it, do you have any other art you can post? also, like, just figure out your goals with art or find someone you aspire to draw like

> just figure out your goals with art or find someone you aspire to draw like

That's not a bad idea. I should look through more art and see what I like, get a better idea about what I want to do.

Here's one that's a bit less abstract

>I have no idea what I'm doing when I make these.
Yeah that's kinda how art works. Set clear goals and everything becomes much more clear.
>I don't even know what to ask in order to get better.
Asking doesn't do anything. You need to act in accordance to your goals. Deliberately practice the things you want to improve on.
>Everyone in my life lies to me to be nice so I can't get any kind of real feedback on what I'm doing right or wrong,
Normal people aren't good at critiquing art in any kind of object way, they care more about not hurting your feelings. Their critique wouldn't be any good unless they also draw. So that doesn't matter.
>and I don't know what questions I should be asking on here so I get ignored.
It's more about how you ask it. Make clear what your goals are, what you struggled with, show other Anons that you putting in effort, are willing to learn and take critique. Make it as easy as possible for others to critique your work.

>Should I just give up? Really love the hobby,
Why would you give up? If you love it then you wouldn't be able to quit it anyway.
>but I have no one in my life willing to give me honest feedback,
doesn't matter, see above.
>and I'm too stupid to automatically know what I need to do to get better.
yeah I noticed.
>I enjoy drawing but I'm never going to improve, and even if I did it's a hobby and doesn't matter.
So then who cares? You're contradicting yourself.
>I'm cooked here right?
Yeah. I diagnose you with low intelligence. Your art is decent though. You won't learn from books or courses, they'll just confuse you more. Small youtube shorts or tiktoks might be ok for you. Just draw and deliberately practice the things you want to improve. Try to find a patient old lady to teach you in real life.

Harsh but fair. Thank you for your honest feedback.

That's not just "drawing", that what you do, is "art". It's not the same. It's called "sovl" when you do something "just because", and it looks somehow complete and meaningful. That looks like those 70s/80s fantasy art landscapes, used in many media like Album's covers from progressive bands, or "Masters of the Universe" kind of productions. If you can label your "art-style", maybe you can understand what you're doing, or where do you want to go with it. You know, artists aren't "good at everything" most of the time. Some are good at portraits, others are good at landscapes, other at vehicles, or weapons, or clothing design, or architecture, or animals, or cartoon style, or 3D design. You can't be good at everything. You probably won't be good at what you love to consume as art. And that's okay. Trying to be good at drawing will take you time and struggle, and pain, like you usually see in this board, maybe you're gifted and you can find a treasure there. So you should try.
But you already have something there, that you can do, in a complete fashion. The thing seems to be that "you don't understand what it is". Well, it is something that can be labeled. You can study that style and develop it, make it your own. Do it special, like adding some tiny figure emanating light or something. You will be fine, just don't turn it into a curse, this is your own personal magical gift, just cherish it, don't hate it, and don't suffer for it.
>>
>>7434774

Sovl huh. Never heard of it, I have a long ride home from work tonight so I'll look it up. I wholeheartedly agree, if I'm already falling into a style and just don't know what it is, studying it is definitely the right move. Thank you.
>>
>>7434774

I know I'm gonna sound like a retard, but I can't find shit on sovl on Google. I guess there's some game with the same name shitting up the results.

You have any links to stuff I can look at? I'll keep trying when I get home.
>>
>>7434779
>>7434799
Nah, "Sovl" is something people will tell you have in this board, it's not a searchable term.
What you should look for is: "80s Fantasy art, landscape, Roger Dean, other-wordly", That's a start. There are several obscure artists like Roger Dean. Syd Mead could be also another interesting artist to look.
>>
>>7434840

Thank you anon, I'll give them a look.
>>
>>7434840

I'm actually touched people in the art community actually like my work. Thank you everyone for the feedback and advice. I have a lot to look up now.

Best board on 4chan.

overall i think a better grasp on value would help, the mixes of darker tones is rare in these but the colors are very mushy looking when they're there.
the value grouping doesn't make much sense either. for example, this flower has darker values on the petals but none on the stem or leaves
you could try cast painting, or painting photos of marble casts if you don't have any, to study value. if you want something less academic, you could try to recreate the values of a painting you like. just get yourself thinking harder about light in relation to your painting
>>
>>7434887

I'll look up values. I definitely can't afford any marble stuff but I'm sure there's some lessons online I can look up. Thank you for taking the time to help me out
>>
>>7434767
i remember writing like 5 posts critiquing this piece once, guess it was of no help, rip me. good luck anyways
>>
>>7435013

No you did help. I tried to vary my shapes and stuff like you said but I'm still not happy with my work. I hold myself to an unrealistic standard I guess. I did save your posts and try to use the information you gave me but I only have two braincells to my name.
>>
>>7435013

No seriously I want you to know that I do really appreciate those posts, but I'm kind of retarded. I did try to apply what you said. This is an op is dumb problem, and not an your advice is bad problem. Please continue to provide your valuable feedback to other anons looking for help. You are very good at what you do.
>>
>>7434739
dude im like getting high looking at this ahhahaha weed
>>
>>7434739
I think it's pretty with in own style it's like dream.
It's truly art on it's own when you think about it because it doesn't have any guidelines like let's say anime etc.. also colors are cool as fuck. Good job dude.
>>
>>7434739
Learn how to draw before you try to paint. Try to make good looking pictures with just a pencil and then go back to painting. No amount of color will make your picture look good if the foundation is wrong.
>>
You have good ideas and an interesting psychedelic style, but you obviously can't draw. Learn how to draw trees, clouds, leaves, skulls, flowers, etc, then come back.
>>
>>7434739
Honestly I like the psychedelic colours, I think the major issue here that's making it look like a child did it is the lack of lighting/shading. A clear light source (and some brighter colours) would improve this tremendously. I would recommend that you practice with some simple shapes like spheres, cubes and cylinders in single colours, and experiment with the paints you use, like "what shade of pink should this part be", "how do I do the transition from light to dark", etc. It should be relatively easy to find a proper tutorial on how to light an object, and you should look at real life subjects, too.
>>
>>7434773
It's a little too girly. Other than that, I dnt see anything wrong with it

Would be cool to see as a comic background or cartoon

What's wrong with it other than being too feminine?

really cool and good art imo, though I think I could do a lot of nit-picking

Black circles - what even is this mess supposed to be? This area is mostly flat and seems out of place to me. is the thing in the smaller black circle supposed to be a hobbit home or something? very flat

Pink circle - this band that seems to maybe be a full disc around the tree looks like a child drew it. the right side looks like it is going to be a full band that wraps around the tree, but the left side looks as if you drew it from a different perspective angle. Are you trying to make it look like it wraps around or make it so it looks like maybe it is climbing up the tree on the back side that we can not see. either way looks like crap, but maybe b/c it looks like a 3d object trying to be apart of a 2d looking object, just my opinion

Red circles - maybe not an issue for anyone else, but the white in-between the colors bothers me greatly. it is always these white spots that only appear on the edges in-between colors, so it is a noticeable pattern. i'll post something after this trying to show what I mean by cleaning it up a lil

Blue circles - really great work here, best branches imo. in the bigger circle, where the branch first disappears into the yellow leaves is really well done b/c of the lack of an outside line that you put all around most of ur branches and it makes it look good here missing a spot of that. I would go back and try to get rid of some spots in your boarders. if the branch is coming out of or going into the leaves consider no boarder in that area.

The smaller blue circle area looks pretty good, almost there, but again looks like a mix of 2D and 3D, so it could be better

great work on the leaves and clouds and colors in general (also the land(?) that looks like melting ice-cream scoops really matches well)

to me, these small changes go a long way. not cooked if ur art is at the point of having to nitpick like this
>>
>>7436189
>>7436197

This is helpful as fuck, thanks!

The shit in the black circle is a bad habit of mine, trying to draw shit that's too small, and having it come out looking like shit.

The mess was supposed to be like a tiny gnome city but I tried to draw and paint too small and it came tits up.
>>
>>7435208

Yea I gotta get a cheap sketch book and practice color values. Another anon said the same thing. I don't usually practice with the watercolor canvas because it's expensive and I can only get it on Amazon and I fucking hate that company.

I really need to learn better perspective and avoid drawing very small things too as that can really screw up the painting. Obviously I need to actually practice.
>>
>>7434749
You got the composition right which is what filters most people
And as a bonus the colors you picked are decent
The rest of this can be refined by practicing technique
Keep painting
