I got a Deco 01 v2 years ago and barely used it, when I did I felt fatigued and drawing felt stiff but didn't know why and thought it was a nodraw issue. Now after gettin a One By Wacom I realize how ass the Deco 01's pen was, FUCK your pressure levels and express keys man the pen should be number 1 priority.

It's funny, now I was looking at the homepage for the Intuos and One by Wacom to see if they ever mention IAF or something similar and they don't, but fuckin XP does it on the Deco Pro Gen 2.

has anyone here broken a pro pen 3 yet? i was considering a movinkpad but the pro pen 3 posts on the wacom subreddit and some posts on xitter are kind of worrying me

I've had a Tab S6 Lite for like 3 years now and it's fine for my usecase. That said, I've always noticed that the lines wobble a little if I try to make slow straight lines (I've even tried it with a ruler to make sure), or it might "cut" a line if I press too lightly. It's not a huge issue but it's still slightly annoying every now and then.
Does this still happen in the Tab S9? If the drawing has some improvements in these things, I might consider the upgrade.

I had a wacom intuos, can't remember the name of the model, but it was one of those cheap ones, screenless and small.
I had it for like 10 years, it served me well, it was shitty but I learned everything about art using it.

Last year (slightly more than a year by now) I bought a Huion Kamvas Pro 24 4k, and it has been great. I took a gamble, because I had read these threads many years ago, shitting on Chinese tablets, but it has been great so far, genuinely don't know why I didn't upgrade sooner, everything in my art has improved, and everything is much faster.

My biggest criticisms so far are:
1.There's no "easy" way to change between screen mode back to screenless, you have to unplug the cable and plug it again for it to work, and every time I do it I feel like I'm slowly ruining the connection and it will lead to huge problems in a couple years. I hope I'm wrong.
2. For the past week I've been having this problem with the drivers, it appeared out of nowhere, in which the pen sensitivity is fucked/not working properly, so every time I turn on my PC I've been having to reinstall the drivers for it to work properly.
Have no idea what has been causing it, but tbf it could be my fault, I pirated a bunch of new software over the last 6 months, and I'm pretty certain that my PC has a virus at this point as I keep hearing a notification that appears to have no source, so wouldn't be surprised something related to that is what's causing it.

Definitely worth the buy tho, really haven't thought once that I would have rather bought a Wacom one instead, the slight improvements that the Wacom version would have had really aren't worth the extra money. And it has been really easy to maintain, no scratches so far, and the pen tips (both of them) feel great.

Long time Linux user here. Started around 2012. This is sort of a complicated issue so I'll start by saying this:
When it's good it's really, really good. It feels as fast and as smooth as it does to draw on windows. Sometimes even better. HOWEVER, this is not a consistent experience. You need to do a lot of research. For example, let's say you have a modern graphics tablet with buttons. Will they work? Probably not straight out of the box. You'll probably need to get the digimend kernel (assuming you're using a Debian based OS), then you'll need to make a config file so it'll actually store your settings, and depending on what desktop environment you're using you might not have access to all of them. You will spend so much time troubleshooting, reading forums, guides, and watching youtube tutorials to do the most basic shit. Artists are constantly second class citizens and our concerns are constantly ignored because most devs don't draw
And haven't upgraded past their wacom bamboo or intuos (not the pro, the beginner version).
I don't want to scare you off, but you should know what you're getting yourself into. It has been getting better, but it's still not as easy as it is on windows. If you really wanna try making art on Linux, look up David revoy's blog. He's been using Linux and FOSS only since 2009, and has plenty of guides and tutorials that have saved me personally. Definitely make that your first stop.

Could someone that has the Intuous Pro tablet comment on how the surface texture changes after a while?

I wish there was a tablet that's a combination of the ipad pro and galaxy tab. I have both and I love the openness of android compared to apple's walled garden, but I prefer the form factor of the ipad. The extra real estate on the galaxy tab is nice and all but it's honestly too big and the aspect ratio sucks for anything that isn't media consumption.

uses regular tablet glass so horrible for drawing unless you use a rubber pen like the s-pen which also sucks and is low quality
uses old school wacom emr so it only supports up to wacom one pen tech
has less options for reputable screen protectors with texture

the ipad digital artist ecosystem only grows every year bigger and android shrinks (it never started)

the iPad Pro's nano texture invalidates the Galaxy Tab as an art device imo, Samsung was already fumbling at a content consumption level but having an iPad with a Cintiq-like glass texture is the final nail in the coffin, if the upcoming M5 releasing in Fall opens up the texture to the cheaper models it's GG for Tabs when it comes to art, we already know everything about the S11/Ultras and theyre a garbage update

it doesnt, it still kills vibrancy but on a different more subtle way, if you've ever used a cintiq pro 16 or a steam deck oled with etched glass it kinda looks like that, those are my closest references atm
most textured screen protectors are straight up matte with tons of sandy paper friction and of course cheap as hell, so the end result isnt the same
this is why i love the new stand alone android tablets that drawing companies have released, they nail the etched glass screen feature first and foremost and then build the device around it, the opposite of a regular consumer tablet
you used to need to go for pro models for etched glass, now its on the low end models, paradigm shift

yeah i was speaking purely for looks, afaik and from a short test of the nano texture at the store it's definitely smoother texture compared to a cintiq pro but it allows the pencil to glide more naturally without getting stuck with oils, etc like on bare glass, a lot of ipad artists that have tried it love it
if you are a one software kind of person and that software is Clip Studio then there's no difference between Android and iPadOS just so you know, if anything the Android device will give you a much easier time with file management
now if you want to start doing Procreate and the mobile Adobe apps then yeah ...not much choice there

CSP is ok on desktop (though I personally don't use it because linux) but imo not worth the subscription fee for the mobile version. I've just been using Krita and it's fine but the desktop interface really isn't suited for a small tablet and it's kinda buggy. On Ipad I swap between ASP and Procreate. I use a pen tablet, and it was weird at first, but you get used to it. Then it becomes second nature.

The two schools of though are:

1) Pen tablets are better for your posture, and are better because your pen hand is not obscuring your art while you draw. There also much cheaper.

2) Display tablets are better because theres less disconnect between your hand and the screen, and feels more like traditional drawing.

If money was no option Id say try both and see what you like. Theres practical benefits to both, and the rest of it comes down to preference.

Wacom and xppen both have standalone android tablets that have features primarily for drawing. Etched glass, same digitizers as their displays tablets, wide color gamut, etc. Wacom's is the movinkpad, xppen's is the magic drawing pad.

Xppen also has something called the magic note pad which is more focused on note taking, but you can also draw with it. I don't remember all the differences between it and the mdp, but iirc it has a higher refresh rate screen, with some other shit being worse

Can't speak for tempered glass as I use a plastic matte one, but my case has magnets and I've never experienced any problems with the pencil. Same with charging but I don't know if the stock charger that came with it counts as a fast charger.

Yes. 13" Ipad is a beast and samsung peaked at s9 so you dont need anything else than both of those tablet to draw (samsung s10 is a massive failure). Is it possible that I can't get used to screen tablets? I have an xp pen artist pro 19 and a Wacom Intuos pro and I feel crippled on the xp pen in terms of line control. I constantly redo lines/strokes I would do perfectly or in lesser time on the intuos. Also drawing on a screen feels very smoothed out compared to screenless where I can do the exact angles and line connections I need.

Maybe the issue is in posture or pen grip? I tried both iPad and xp pen so I doubt it's in chinese tablets being worse quality.

with an ipad pro you could actually touch both the screen with your fingers and apple pencil and have them work at the same time; see the gestures in procreate where you could double-finger-tap undo without actually lifting the pencil, or that smart shapes thing where you draw a shape, then keep holding after which the shape turns proper as in a poorly drawn circle actually becomes round, THEN you tap with a finger while still having the pencil on the screen which actually auto-adjusts the shape even more

I've bought Lenovo convertible, not for drawing but music stuff.
It has a wacom digitizer and came with a pen, 4096 pressure levels, that stuff.
The display apparently is glass, but if I use it with the pen, pretty hard tip, there's a chance I'm going to ruin it?
Anyways, the touch and pen input ceased to be recognized two weeks after I bought it, hahaha. There's a visible dent in the bezel, where something inside it got very hot and actually melted it from the inside. Apparently that was part of the wacom stuff.
Just inconvenient, I have two years of warranty, but it stil takes time to get it replaced.

Ok I managed to return my movinkpad and cintiq 16 inch for a 24 inch tough, I kinda like it but I need a stand, probably the huion one which has a pen older on it too.
My only gripe with it is that the display isn't as amazing, I wish it was 4k instead of 2.5 because you can definitely see some ui and stuff be blurry or pixelated if you're looking at the screen upclose which is kinda what you do when you're drawing on it anyways so that's a miss. Even the huion 24 inch is in 4k, the xppen also seems to have better specs but I'm fine with just the 100% srgb since I'm not doing anything to do with print and stuff and anything else would be overkill. I think they should've released a 22 inch version too since the 24 one is kinda too big but the 16 ones too small and doesn't have touch.

You don't need to buy a wacom intuos if you want a screenless, just get an xppen or huion screenless. They should be about 8k pen pressure and have thicker and slimmer pens as options and should also just be plug and play. The only thing to be careful about is not buying a small. I bought a Huion 7 years ago and another one 5 years ago, they both worked fine, I have a wacom cintiq 24 inch touch 2025 now because that fits what I wanted.
There is absolutely no reason to buy an intuos or any wacom non screen tablets. Even the screen ones seem to be competitive in terms of specifications and honestly I only bought mine because I could, if I didn't I would've waited for a huion or xppen new release of their screen tablets with less bezels/buttons or just simply got the 4k xppen/huion they're selling for less though even if only a few hundred dollars less. Infact wacom seems to retain their value and sells for a relatively reasonable price, if a 4k low bezel fanless and light design comes with better specs I will probably sell my cintiq for something that performs just as well and provides more than their new release.

BTW I didn't buy the other one 3 years later because it "broke" or whatever else, I infact liked it so much that I wanted to buy something similar again but this time without me having to charge the pen which was annoying so I got the no charging one which was probably an updated model.
In that time my choice was either buying a huion/xppen screenless or a wacom intuos that had the 8k pen pressure, the difference in price was me spending about $60-$70 on the alternative brand or having to spend like $320 on an intuos or something stupid, I definitely went with the huion and had no issues with it and it still holds up just fine even today and I'm saying this as a guy who also managed to get a hold of a large intuos and have messed around with other ones. My first wacom was a wacom bamboo which used to be sold for $20 or $25 or something back in the day which only had 2k pen pressure, I was given an old intuos or something to me once which was silver back in the day and it had 8k pressure then and ofc I didn't want to spend triple digits on it once that died, though the price bump from $20-25 to $60-70 was more reasonable for a similar product. The go to for screenless tablets is always medium sized, 8k pen pressure and never paying beyond $100. If I can recall there still are some wacom products being sold that don't even have that basic spec, it should've been a standard by now.

Not really, if it didn't feel and perform as great then no brand would've moved beyond 2k to 8k, but I must say anything beyond 8k seems like a meme. I tested both 2k and 8k in the past and the bamboo which had 2k pen pressure definitely felt terrible to draw on due to poor sensitivity, however I dunno people worked professionally with them in the past when those were the only options so maybe it's a skill issue.

Unless it's some ultra wide screen I think he'd be fine because you can map the display to the wacom tablet, however it's recommended he gets a medium sized tablet to make navigation and drawing feel fine. I used my huion on a 27 inch monitor.

I got a 16 inch cintiq and a movinkpad because both would sum up to be less than a cintiq 2025 touch but it was smaller than what I'd expected and it had issues with connection. If you're on pc you have to use a mini hdmi cable, usb-c and a power usb-c, you don't get a mini hdmi cable from the box and stuff so I returned it and the movinkpad (the spec was a bit small and outdated plus I didn't want to pay money for clip studio paint). I just got a 24 inch touch because I can pirate the softwares and use it as my 2nd screen, if huion or xppen makes something like it for cheaper and maybe 22 inch I'll get it probably.

I used cintiqs at art school and at my friend’s place but I just can’t get used to screen tablets. I hate drawing on an ipad too so it’s whatever. The 2025 ones quite light and the display actually looks quite fine because the pixels are more dense due to smaller size. The only bad thing about the 16 inch new model is how the usb-c only works for thunderbolt usb-c slots, this means you will need to supply your own mini hdmi cable for display and use the other usb-c slot for input. It also doesn't have touch which some may prefer and some may not. The pen is alright, I don't think it's as fragile as some people claim it is. It's also light so some people may be able to carry it in their bag if they travel a lot but don't care about drawing laptops or tablets. I would say if you have a laptop and want another screen for it and like small desk setups then yeah get it since it'll need less cables to run the tablet and it'll be a bigger screen than the usual less than 14 inch laptops being published today so you will appreciate it as a 2nd screen even if smaller than usual. The bad thing about it is that the pen holder is awful so you might lose your pen if you're a mess.
