Not really an artist, but on a whim a little while ago I drew shitty picture of Xiao from Dark Cloud for a /v/ thread, and then today did it again just to see if I could do it better since she has like almost no fan art anywhere since her game is old and obscure now. I had the hardest time with the shoulders, collarbone, knees and arms, it's really hard to keep them in proportion so that one isn't longer then the other. I spent a lot of time just cropping hands feet and limbs and dragging them around to make them look a little less fucked up. Regardless I'm pretty happy with the improvement from the left to the right, but I'd like to know how some of you guys figure out how to build those parts of the body, be mean I can take it. I feel like I'm just going to keep practising drawing Xiao cause her design is pretty simple, but if I can help it I want to make her look more like how Murata draws Tatsumaki in OPM then the loli she kind of ended up as on the right. I don't have the skill to make her body more defined.

It's hours spent learning and challenging yourself that matters. Lines and geometric shapes are useful to train muscle memory... for a few days maybe? You need to actually move onto other things if you want to improve. You're trying to master writing by doing animal flashcards.
>>7735275You learn by failing. You have to get over your fear of making a shitty drawing.

>>7735316Hard to call someone who barely says anything a troll.I think he's just another poor sod mindbroken by /ic/.

>>7735280If I stuck to my skill level I'd still be drawing stick figures instead of stick figures with tits on them
>>7735280For me it's a balance. I try to consistently challenge myself, but if I only challenge myself, I'll start to lose motivation and can burn out. If you're feeling motivated/confident, do something outside your comfort zone. If you're a bit demotivated and need a break, do something fun that builds confidence. I don't think it's a case of all of one or the other. Doodling seems like the most productive way to deal with hitting a wall I can imagine.

>>7735650I'm too retarded to understand this
Lighting on the right one is fucked but I don't have time to fix it.
>>7735862If you have time to post your doodles, you have time to refine them enough to be presentable.

>>7735862Think about planes when you're rendering. Humans are boxy. The light on the left figure would strike the left arm and side of the pec much more strongly than it would the entire arm and pec.
>>7735906strike the outer side of the left arm*
>>7735308I don't use stabilization, I don't like the delay>>7735613>Do you have any sketch layers for these that you could post?for these ones, no. I don't keep .ora files after I'm finished with a drawing. I'm not good with construction though, most I do is draw circles for the head, chest, and pelvis>>7735856>I had no idea what was going on with some of these.erm, your figs looks great though???

one time i got a really good redline on this board and i’ve been chasing that high ever since. good board (sometimes).
what about some fun with a pencil
>>7735986post the red line
Didn't have any connection yesterday, so I filled in the rest of the page, bar one drawing. >>7735088 Thanks for the ref, but as others have stated, the dude is very much AI. I won't touch that.I finished the page today with a drawing of two hands holding a gun. It turned out pretty okay, I think.>>7735109Your linework is always so wonderful to look at.>>7735129Really crisp folds. I'm only slightly jealous.>>7735369In my experience, it just has to be good enough. We aren't architects.>>7735978Yeah, sorry. My connection was out for a while. I would do it, but be sure to colour in each muscle group separately in different colours. It might seem a bit odd, but it will help you differentiate between muscles. Otherwise, your brain will try to cheat you and smush the details together. There are different versions of the same book. If it's just a one-off, I would wing it, but if it's too complicated, draw it to the best of your abilities and move onto the next one.
>>7735986Here you go king.
>>7735991Nice fundies. What is your endgame with fundies that good?
>>7735272
>>7735996Thanks. I want to produce short form indie comics some day, maybe in a year or two. I'd also love to be less reliant on construction and my design skills are pretty rudimentary at this point in time. Those things are a whole other skillset. For now, I just really like to draw stuff, and it's only become more fun the more my skills compound. Lot's of transference revelations. Drawing a foot can help understanding hands, and a dog looks like a wolf. Inorganic forms are my bane, though.
