Great work. I just think it looks kind of flat around the left side of the cherries, where the lighter reds are. I think you should focus on blending to achieve a specific value as opposed to just placing the color
>>
there is really a lot you can practice with just lines.
>splitting a page in half, then quartering it, and so on until you fill the page with as many lines as possible without them touching.
>drawing a line between two dots, but with your eyes closed. hard mode: make it a wave.
>drawing over a line but with variations on speed and pressure. i feel kind of dumb for trying to only do it fast initially.

total beginner, but these have been helpful. also had some luck drawing circles with my eyes closed. i learned from piano that a lot of your spatial awareness happens in your brain, sometimes your eyes can even get in the way. it helps you pay more attention to the muscles in your hand and arm.
>>
>>7731590
Thanks. By flat you mean the edges don't pop out? might be because there's no background at all on what I did. I tried to visualize the values by placing those colors on the palette.
>>
>>7731595
Yeah, it kind of begins to lose its form.
>>
>>7731598
Then yeah I see what you mean. I like it a little but get how it seems like they float in space or don't exist, maybe I should pick fruit in a table bowl next time.

But It was mainly to see how much I could trust my eyes to detect what color value to use. Also just noticed some green reflection on the right cherry I missed, rip.

Head looks pretty decent if you were just going for the pose and not capturing likeness. You've clearly done some good head and loomis study. For the full body pose though, there's too much here to succinctly list, but the big takeaways are the torso is way too long and the hands/feet have bad proportions and perspective, the feet especially.

All these mistakes can be fixed by drawing what you see instead of what you think you see.

The hand for example, the ref only has 3 fingers visible with the fourth barely peeking through at a steep angle and their base is mostly obscured by the hand, but you just threw 4 equally sized fingers next to each other and called it a day because that's how you think hands look, rather than capturing how that hand actually looks.

Keep it up, it was a solid attempt at an ambitious pose. Maybe focus on the major forms and nailing their proportions before moving onto clothing/surface details on the next one.

You captured the proportions and perspective of the head pretty well, but the face does not recognizably match that person. Like, if you showed me a dozen heads of random bald guys and just the drawing without the reference image, I would not be able to pair the face with the drawing. That's what it means to 'capture likeness'.

Capturing likeness is probably the hardest thing to do as an artist since our brains are designed to recognize faces, and it requires very precise proportions and spacing of facial features to pull off. It's an order of magnitude more difficult than drawing the rest of the body, so I wouldn't worry about that bit for now. A believable head is good enough while you get the hang of drawing the rest of the body.

Anyone out there who can give me some guidance?

I've been learning/practicing pixel art for almost two years (about 2/3 self-taught or my own practice, 1/3 with the support of a course or video), but beyond continuing to practice (or make things), I don't really know which path to take and how

This is a set I was working on (RPG-themed + indie games) until I started to doubt whether I was using my time well to improve my level, or if I was just doing things

I was given the advice to practice anatomy (and I've done some related exercises these days), but I also don't know if they're good or not.

Why do some people recommend drawing with a pen, instead of pencil?

you can try doing loose construction under your pen (I recently started doing this a few weeks ago), I started drawing two boxes and some lines to define the location of where I want things and then go in pen, you can see I forgot to erase some of it. then draw with pen on top I guess

You can make some diagrams on the side to figure out proportions, forms (construction), etc. Peter Han teaches this in his dynamic sketching videos.

You can do some very faint lines if you angle the pen correctly and press very lightly. But you can also just plan the construction in your head.
I think it's a completely different thing from pencil drawing and if you plan on drawing with pencil primarily, you should see it more as an exercise, instead of always drawing with pen. It can help you leanr line confidence, but also to not draw without a plan.

anyone with adhd here? How do i cope?
I am shit at drawing and i know it will take many months before i can even draw something, but my adhd makes me lose interest despite me trying this for years(not really... i never get past 1 month)
>>
>>7732232
I guess it depends on your brand of adhd. I have adhd too, but once I start something, I have no problem doing it for an hour or two straight. The issue I have is tricking myself into starting it. Right now my strategy is to 'start' something every day, usually a study that I don't have to think too hard about. The fewer barriers to starting the better. When I get bored with whatever I'm focusing on: anatomy, form, gesture, etc, I just move onto something else rather than force myself to grind something I'm tired of. The nice thing about drawing is there is basically infinite things to study.

Doing the final linework is so damn boring. I don't think I'll ever get used to.
>>
>>7732238
I have to use pomodoro with 20 minutes sessions cause my brain starts getting foggy and my mind starts consistently roaming to something else. I guess innatentive? I never got the diagnostic(i know i aint gonna have the bucks for the treatment) but seriously, i fit literally every symptom.
>>
i finally drew a good face first try. no longer am i on the same level as russian permabeg schizo. i have graduated pre-begness. thank god.
>>7732241
i really enjoy doing linework, have you tried using another pen or experimenting with hatching/lineweight/etc? its really fun to me, then again im autistic so the repetitive nature of it might be what draws me in
>>
>>7732242
If starting isn't the problem, but you're actually having trouble keeping your focus on it, it's probably a problem with not having clear goals. If the only thing motivating you to draw is that you find the vague notion of being good at drawing appealing, then I think most people would pretty quickly give up.

The thing that motivates me is that I have very clear short and long term goals and know the steps that it takes to reach them. Let's say, for example, you want to make an animation. To make an animation, you need to know how to animate. To learn how to animate, you need to know how to draw. To know how to draw, you need to understand anatomy, form, gesture, value, and basic design principles. You continue to break the long term goal into smaller and smaller steps towards your goal until it's small enough that it's a concrete step you can take and make meaningful progress towards in a single session. At that point, it becomes a lot easier to convince yourself to spend an hour or two studying hands because you can see exactly how it fits into the bigger picture and your goals.

If you still can't get yourself to do it, then I don't know what to tell you other than you're ngmi.

>>
>>7732254
well the thing is you dont have to make precise lines when doing line art. some people just have a messier style and thats fine. mangaka also dont make every line perfect, its better to have it a little messier

any advice from those of you who have mastered drawing more complex forms? It takes me so long just to cut wedges out and bevel the cubes. I just can't believe anyone can do this convincingly and at a reasonable speed without mapping things out but then there's kim jung gi. How can I learn this more quickly and get even slightly closer to his level? I know it takes time and repetition but at this rate it's going to take me 20+ years at least.

thank you for telling me about this glorious twink boy
also not quite what i had in mind, i tried to draw it, but its hard to get the perspective right without having the reference. this is how far i got, but even i think i didn't get it quite right.
also his left (our right) arm is really awkward, might be better to just hide that behind the body
>>
>>7732273

>>
>>7732272
Well, this is the beg/int thread, so probably nobody here. The big question I have is why that's important to you unless you're an aspiring to one day be a photocopier. At the end of the day, drawing isn't really about being accurate, it's about being believable. Accuracy is a component of that, but only to a certain extent.

Sadly there is no faster way. Check out Robertson "How to draw" for all the tricks, but if you want to have precision you would need to do it for years before you would be able to freehand stuff. Thankfully if you don't need precision you would need just half a year to a year to get passable.

>>
>>7732355
That's normal when you are starting. Freehanding is hard. Even way later down the line you most likely would still use a single box for each object to act a guide - it makes things way easier. Most artists would be using references or they did already spend a couple decades drawing everything. Kim literally spent over 20 years drawing stuff from life before he got that good.
