Not really an artist, but on a whim a little while ago I drew shitty picture of Xiao from Dark Cloud for a /v/ thread, and then today did it again just to see if I could do it better since she has like almost no fan art anywhere since her game is old and obscure now. I had the hardest time with the shoulders, collarbone, knees and arms, it's really hard to keep them in proportion so that one isn't longer then the other. I spent a lot of time just cropping hands feet and limbs and dragging them around to make them look a little less fucked up. Regardless I'm pretty happy with the improvement from the left to the right, but I'd like to know how some of you guys figure out how to build those parts of the body, be mean I can take it. I feel like I'm just going to keep practising drawing Xiao cause her design is pretty simple, but if I can help it I want to make her look more like how Murata draws Tatsumaki in OPM then the loli she kind of ended up as on the right. I don't have the skill to make her body more defined.

I took a crack at the closer foot. I'm just a beg and this is my first attempted redline, but I've been studying legs and feet all week, so I thought it would be a good exercise for me.

I made an earnest attempt, but this is a really tough foot pose without a reference. I'm still not happy with the external side plane, but hopefully this is a useful starting point for ya. I'm sure there's a footfag around here somewhere who will instantly spot the issues.

Gonna do that later, or used limited values. This is just a small piece so I don't want to spend too much on rendering/colour and focus more on the ink to canvas. Thanks for the opinion and tip on the crossing. The designs have them pinned to the characters back but for the sake of coherency I'll cross em.

>how do I observe fast and correctly

Add life drawing alongside to what you’re already doing. Doesn’t just have to be humans, just practicing observing from life regularly and your observation skills with ref images will skyrocket. Also, try focusing on larger shapes first such as the rib cage and pelvis shape. You did good with breaking the limbs down into simple shapes and forms but the torsos need that attention too because it’s easier to connect the limbs to the torso once the bigger shapes are established

You learn by doing new things and challenging yourself. "You just need 'draw' for 10000 hours and then you'll be a master" is a begtrap. It's hours spent learning and challenging yourself that matters.

Lines and geometric shapes are useful to train muscle memory... for a few days maybe? You need to actually move onto other things if you want to improve. You're trying to master writing by doing animal flashcards.
>>
>>7735275

For me it's a balance. I try to consistently challenge myself, but if I only challenge myself, I'll start to lose motivation and can burn out. If you're feeling motivated/confident, do something outside your comfort zone. If you're a bit demotivated and need a break, do something fun that builds confidence. I don't think it's a case of all of one or the other. Doodling seems like the most productive way to deal with hitting a wall I can imagine.

Yeah, sorry. My connection was out for a while. I would do it, but be sure to colour in each muscle group separately in different colours. It might seem a bit odd, but it will help you differentiate between muscles. Otherwise, your brain will try to cheat you and smush the details together. There are different versions of the same book. If it's just a one-off, I would wing it, but if it's too complicated, draw it to the best of your abilities and move onto the next one.

Thanks. I want to produce short form indie comics some day, maybe in a year or two. I'd also love to be less reliant on construction and my design skills are pretty rudimentary at this point in time. Those things are a whole other skillset. For now, I just really like to draw stuff, and it's only become more fun the more my skills compound. Lot's of transference revelations. Drawing a foot can help understanding hands, and a dog looks like a wolf. Inorganic forms are my bane, though.

Why not now? I worry about talented /ic/ers putting off projects to study fundies. Comics are a complex form and there is no time to learn it like today.
>>

It's all cylinders, bones and muscles to me. I see a connection, but you might not. It isn't 1:1, that's why it's called transference. It's a part of how didactics work in practice. Still, there are similarities between the two, especially in how the bones in the toes behave.

I've been told that a lot. I've already got a couple of completed scripts, and I'm in the talks with a couple of other writers to help out. I'm not much of a writer other than I know if it's bad, like how I can tell what's wrong with my drawings after I'm done drawing them. The issue comes in fixing it. I'm more visual than word, if that makes sense. I'm not delaying it, I've even plotted a whole schedule out for myself, like how I teach myself drawing. So far, I'm decently proficient at keeping to set schedule, though I do slip up like anyone else.

how do you drawy your anime eyes anons?
do you use elipse tool or just draw it by hand?
i am practicing very basic eye shapes and from what i understand you basically need two elipses and then then eyelids create the emotion you wanted
but what about the "white" bubbles/reflections? do they depend on light source or can i just draw them however i want?

Yeah, you need to learn how to draw a real eye. The "white" bubbles are indeed light being reflected. If you want to draw a convincing anime eye, then try drawing a convincing eye first. They are the same thing, but anime is basically just a cartoonist interpretation of the real thing. Focus on that before trying to render reflective surfaces and light. You don't need to master it, just understanding it is enough.

It's all about sitting down and learning. If you remember how school works, hardcore learning something can be extremely taxing and boring. What you're seeing is basically 20 percent of what I've been drawing. This is just my drawings in Krita. Before this, I've drawn close to ten hours of feet. Just feet. Do you really think that was extremely fun 100 percent of the time? Mostly, especially if I mix in a cheeky doodle in once in awhile. You would be surprised by how much you'll improve if you put down your phone and pick up a sketchbook instead.

I'd love to, especially considering I adore Kim Jung Gi, like a lot of people, and I love Frank Miller's earlier works. I've taken a look at the list of ideas for the upcoming inktober event, and I'm quite excited to see how I'll do. Probably not particularly well, especially since I mostly work with pencils, but it will definitely be fun. Maybe it will be on my agenda for next year, to be better at inking.

That's actually a very good idea. I do have an insane amount of technical pencils as a part of my job, which is basically fine point pens, though a little less sexy, I guess. I've been reading a lot of Tom Bloom's works, and I love the way he inks. Maybe I'll try and replicate that the next few days, see how I can incorporate that into my own work. I really like his work in Cain, as seen here.

Nothing I draw is horrendous enough to draw ridicule, or has low hanging fruit for critique, but there's also nothing to draw attention. I don't have the confidence to experiment or exaggerate enough to standout. It's like a plateau of mediocrity where everything is utterly forgettable.

I meant literally. Drawing with pencil is attacking my rhinitis, and making my throat dirty, as if some graphite entered.
in an unrelated note, I can make most of head by imagination in a way that pleases me, except the mouth. I'm always fixing them but it takes too long until I'm satisfied. Getting kinda frustrated atm.
>>7736080
I'm still in process of figuring it out, but I noticed myself always doing the last method I saw from anyone else that caught my interest. Since this week I'm trying to copy how Iwane does and it's working nice to me by using a 4B Pencil.
It was something that wasn't working well when trying with my 0.5 mechanical pencil earlier, where I was doing the outline shape instead. But that's just me being incompetent as always.

One of the benefits to drawing as a child is not really having this mentality. Just "I fucking suck" but it's lost in the blanket of everything else a child sucks at.

When I had this feeling I just looked at my favorite artists, all 20+ years, it will take time.
I think this is one of the last things that keeps me alive at this point, art is one of the few things where I felt gratification through hard work, so I want to keep going, despite how much I want to die.

Honestly, yeah. That's a good mentality to have. All things take time. I just add it to my to-do list. For some reason, I don't have that mentality of wanting to rush improvement like everyone else I've seen ITT.

Really it just is me hating whatever I made because my schizo brain doesn't see shit as it is until like 3 days after I've posted it online somewhere.

>art is one of the few things where I felt gratification through hard work, so I want to keep going, despite how much I want to die.
I think art, despite being my main reason as to why I hate myself so much, has slowly gotten me out of wanting to kill myself lel

Thanks! I think I've finally realized why my gestures looked so bad back in college. I though I wasn't supposed to suggest ANY volume because my teacher said not to make contour lines. Then I remembered that gesture is supposed to be actually used in a drawing, and my teacher just didn't want me following every little bump, muscle, and clothing fold on the model.
I've also started doing anime studies to work on proportions and solid drawing, on top of my animation work.

Hope you all are having a great time drawing. I didn't feel like starting out with studies today, So I wanted to test myself to see if I could make something cool. I haven't gone for structual accuracy, so things are off on purpose, though I'm still working on fixing her ass. I got my hands on Terada Katsuya's Sketch, and it's brilliant. It made a few things click in terms of how to do details a little better. I tried to be inspired by his work, though it's a fair bit off. Still, I like it, and I might even ink it some day.

It's very appealing to me at least. Maybe her right hand holding the gun is a tad too small, especially since it's closer to the viewer. Also, don't be afraid of showing some more definition in her face. Besides that, I also really enjoy your shapes, and I especially like how you rendered the dress' folds. Nice job on that.

People with schizophrenia tend to have delusional thoughts about themselves and others, bordering on paranoia. On this board, it manifests as hardline hatred towards others better than them at anything art, and frustration occurs.
Basically, they hate how everybody else are better than them, and they won't put in the work to improve because they think everyone are against them.
