Read the imgur sticky on /asg/, about copying anime. They style I'm looking for is manga adjacent so it has properly convinced me to put the time into copying. Pic is quick sketch from some dude from Vinland Saga.

Anyhoo, how do you guys deal with lack of patience when drawing? Because I suffer from it a lot, find myself incapable of taking a breather when commiting pen to paper. Any advice?
>>
>>7753841
Acrylic art. Has as close to instant gratification as one could get. I make refrigerator magnet paintings (canvases you can pick up just about anywehre that sells canvases in the US...) and can finish a painting in a few hours. Looks more elaborate than it actually is, and scratches that instant gratification itch I get from time to time.
>>
>>7753838
Trad artists can use a mahl stick for stabilization, and there's things like french curves and ellipse guides if you need to draw very consistent, even lines very quickly (old cel animators and drafters used them a lot)

There was a brief moment were I was contemplating to paint comics in this acrylic style. It´s why I´m focusing on copying manga at the moment, seeing as I´m mostly inspired by them instead of western comics. Probably going have to do this because I find myself unable to to properly give my attention to my art if my art doesn´t continually give attention to me, and this frantic painting style helps tremendously with this with this problem.

Anyone know of any any comic artists or mangaka who make their art by painting, drawing on canvas size pieces of paper?

Why? How come nobody else gets this treatment?
>>
>>7754577
1) Because I don't want to discourage the people here who are actively trying to get better and make neat art!
2) Redrawing art helps me try o correct things that I see, so that I don't just be someone that sees what's wrong but can't back up my claims with a redline.

I mean if other people want me to redraw their stuff, then I'd do so if it looks fun enough. I see it more of an insult (even though if someone redrew my own pieces with better everything I'd be tickled pink), since I was told not to do it several times off-anon.

1.) I would recommend thinning the line (or lowering the opacity) of the nose bridge. It is jarring and takes away from the eyes.

2.)Do the same with the collar bone line as collar bones aren't that prominent on body types with that high of fat content.

3.) Do the same with the lines on the torso that are not the breast, dip of the belly button itself.

4.) I know this will probably alarm you but you may need to work on your toes so that they aren't comedically poorly drawn compared to the hands. Rule of thumb; give both extremities the same level of detail to make sure neither stick out from the picture. But do not go overboard.
>>
>>7754765
thank you!! i'll do these - i'll probably increase the thickness of the bellybutton lines but otherwise thin the other lines on the torso, as well as the nose bridge. i definitely see what you mean in regards to that :) and yeah i know my toes are bad haha. nothing much i can really do abt those atp, usually my hands are just as bad but they came out OK this time. thanks for the tips!!
>>
>>7754765
and that drawing is basically a glorified sketch; i'll be cleaning up the lines and such when i go over it again to make it look clean, i'll take your changes into account then. really appreciate the constructive crits rather than just saying "looks ass lmao"

wishing you luck in your studies!! i haven't delved into that topic yet (obviously) since i just wanna focus on being able to draw the body itself competently first. i'm getting there, my torsos and hips are a lot better than what they used to be. i'm making sure not to limit myself to one bodytype (though i haven't really drawn any muscular folks...) so im more confident with different references. think im gonna add a couple halloween outfit alts to her too...

I honestly think the face is the most glaring issue. I like that you tried to turn the head, but you kind of drew the face like you would see it head on.

In general, if you're drawing a face in a 3/4 view, the eyes will not be mirrored, because we see them both from the same angle. The hind eye will also start disappearing behind the bridge of the nose the more you turn the head.

I tried moving your face to where I think it would sit on the head you drew - which seems to not only be turned to the side, but also slightly down - and redrew the hind eye. It's not fully accurate either, but hopefully it shows what I'm talking about a bit.

ahh yeah, i kinda see what you mean. i appreciate the different head angle! but i think i'll keep the angle as it is, just shift the eyes and such slightly. i think it's caused by how my head was too wide on the side in my mannequin underneath which i fixed after the fact, so it made things look a little awkward. i really struggle drawing the far eye but i'll fiddle with it some and see how it comes out!
>>
>>7754846
No worries, I just turned it downwards, cause the silhouette looked similar to my heads in that angle. Shifting the eyes to the side will already help a ton I think

not really
that gun is clearly patterned after a real gun
has a demon and a skull and bones and a halo, invoking religious and deathly imagery and moral judgements
the person is starting into a mirror rather than firing, clearly thinking heavily about something
whereas my drawing is a fantasy gun, firing out of frame, with no implication of morality or any deeper conflict
the background is vague and pretty undefined, while the face is not showing any anger or malice
the only similarity is the lack of drawing skill, rather than any meaningful overlap in content outside of the basics of man with gun

I mean, if it's only stretched then the proportions aside from width to height are still the same. The position of the eyes looks fine to me, but you could put them down a bit if you want the character to appear younger.

You can use a straight on face or just perfectly turned by a bit to great effect. But unless you absolutely have a reason to do so, it usually just looks pretty stiff. The head has so much freedom of movement, and unless consciously kept straight, will rotate on multiple axis with every movement. If you turn your head to the left for example, your entire face will be slanted, with your chin more to the right and your forehead to the left.

Thanks!
I did try to do a perspective grid, but realized that I don't really know how to use it aside from just eyeballing stuff in relation to it. Maybe that is how you use it, idk.
For the most part, the shadows are just eyeballed, trying to align the lines to where I imagine the source of the light to be.

I get the composition examples in picrel, but to say that anyone else looking at this shit will feel the same things on a conscious or subconscious level is a little hard for my dumb dumb brain.

Worse, I could interpret this as saying if you can't relate to other people, you won't successfully evoke the emotion with your comp - And if you don't care about the emotion, don't worry about comp.

I must be misunderstanding something here, so if you can gently nudge me in the right direction (explain or give a resource), I'd appreciate it.

Good. Consider varying the line width more. I like to give the larger "shapes" in the drawing thicker outlines. Start thinking about trying to maximizing the appeal of every line, as if they are individual shapes that you are sculpting.

All the Sora 2 animations sapped my will to live/draw, so I haven't drawn in about a week. Finally got my shit together and started drawing again yesterday.

I decided to tear myself out of my study autism and attempt drawing something without a true reference for the first time, just a pose + design reference, and the sketch is actually turning out okay.

I've never gotten this far before. Are there any obvious pose/proportion/perspective mistakes before I try to clean it up and inevitably fuck it up?

LMAO
>>
>>7756222
NTA seems reasonable to me, terminally retarded /ic/ permabegs are not normal
>>
>>7756224
Is more an issue of the exercises and discipline in my opinion. I'm speaking more from someone getting a real education or following a proper course down to a t. People can get stuck on a certain level because they keep training and following the same advice that does nothing to them. like, no matter how much you train anatomy I think what most artists need to actually improve is getting down to the basics and learn things like perspective or understand space and form on a fundamental level. But if anyone asks for improvement online there will always be the person to tell them to "study anatomy" because that's the standard response everyone gives.

Starting with the basics and having a strong fundamentals. solid grasp on perspective and things like that is one of the most beneficial things anyone can do to improve their artwork, it helped me a bit, people get stuck in things around that nature, not only what I'm only saying here, could be values or muddy rendering or clarity, the list goes on, anything abstract that needs a more hands on guidance and few will be able to put in to words, even gay shit like composition makes a huge difference in the final, but god save me from trying to explain this shit to anyone properly. the most outrageous things I do is my style range, but again, is not even that impressive because like seem here I do struggle with proportions.
>>
>>7756235
>Starting with the basics and having a strong fundamentals
Literally everyone will have a different definition for fundies and turns out that it is innate shit that if you are born without you are doomed to be a permabeg?
No spatial awareness? Accuraccy? Eye for measurements? You better learn how to use designdoll and csp assets faggot.
>>
>>7756235
your advice is very solid and it's honestly made me sit down and think about my entire approach to art

however, you've also triggered perma-beg schizo. He's going to have a meltdown over being given actual advice and probably try and bully you out of this thread so...nice seeing ya, good art too
>>
>>7756247
It is just a question for why someone would call "fundies" what are innate skills. I am not calling every second post a nit, rat or whatever the fuck that guy says
>>
>>7756249
oh scared the shit out of me I thought you where PBS for a sec, anyways I wouldn't really call those innate skills, they're things you can learn. I'd say my anatomy is pretty good and I had to actually sit down and learn it. that's far from innate

>>7756179
looks very cool and goonable
you are almost there
but I would add more line variation for a more manga-esque approach
>>
>>7756237
I can give you what I consider the most basic things that you should start and why.
>line and flow control
Essential to even control the pen and be able to put shapes down properly, really visible on prebegs with their terrible lines. Line confidence does wonders to any drawing.
>perspective and space awareness
Basically the box thing, you need to understand how to draw a box in space and apply it to building constructions, and from there it kinda works like minecraft. Is basically useless to try to build a construction for a human, car, furry, fucktron robot or whatever if the construction blocks are shitty to begin, most skip both of those things and it ruins their work. is something I wish I knew when I started at 12.
>quick gestures and study of form
Again, very useful to understand the form, specially humans. and the limited time forces you to abstract and understand basics instead of just becoming a copy machine. I would 5 min to 10 min ones are the best. And yeah, you can definitly use references, design doll or whatever, but from what I seem they are always stiff and odd looking, sometimes you can totally see they been used because they never look that natural in my opinion. and is not even quicker than sketching, I can sketch any pose I want in half of the time most people would take posing their dolls exactly they they wanted. is a shortcut that costs you a lot in the long term.

And again, you are not born with those things, is a skill you develop. 3/4 of my time drawing with basically no spatial awareness and complete lack of understanding of proper perspective, I felt I was stuck no matter what I did. what really made a difference for my art to start moving again was going back the things I was ignoring and learning and applying them to what I wanted to create.

Is not easy, not fun at times, and I'm not saying is going to work 100%, but is better than always doing the same and expecting different results.

Good luck, btw. I hope this helps.

How do you do it in CSP? Everyone says Krita is dogshit for anything but painting but I love Krita and dont want to give up on it.

I hear good things about Krita and it must be the best free option
but if your focus is making manga, csp is unmatched in this category
It often goes on sale for ~20 bucks so it might be interesting for you.
About the lines, I used to think like you until I got some manga/doujin pages(picrel) in original resolution(~7000x5000)
and after studying them and watching some streams on the now dead pixivsketch I realized that they use large sizes in the brushes, something around 20~30 px to make thick lines instead of passing several times on the same line

Behold my very first fanart. This is unfortunately the best I can do after more than three months of drawing. My observation has reached its limit and I can't identify what's wrong with it any more. I'm proud, yet dissatisfied.

I did drawabox just for line confidence and basic perspective stuff for about a week. The rest of the first month was really just doing bargue plates/studies to really dial in my observation skills. At first it was the bargue plates, but after a week or so, I just started doing studies of whatever I liked, just trying to capture it as accurately as possible.

Once I was comfortable I could draw accurately from a reference, I started spamming anatomy studies to build some confidence drawing body parts without a reference. The last few weeks I started doing full figure drawing.

I still sort of suck at poses and full bodies, so lots more figure drawing and maybe some value/color studies is on the agenda next.

So the key thing to take away from this is you have to establish what your preferred method of breaking thigns down is. Boxes? Oblong shapes? Whichever it is, tracing over photos is supposed to assist you in adjusting to different heights and proportions! There isn't a "right" way, but moreso a consistent way. You're looking for consistency. Does this method of lines and circles help you in the long run? Also, lower your opacity! This one is using the method I typically use to draw humans.

It's not about her back. It's about how harshly the lines are cutting into the tits. I think it looks painful. Sue me.

It's that feeling of sitting on a cord for a long time and then having an indent in the titty. I see this issue also happen with stockings too. I'd recommend looking up real titties and breasts because that'd be how some of the hornier artists function.

I had a book that mentions you're supposed to view hair as a 3D shape. Can't tell which book it was, but I vaguely remember them mentioning to avoid making hair look flat, block in the shapes and add the strands in last, since they're really just there for texture on the shine spots. Still digging through my books - I'll screencap it and respond if I can find it.
