>>7785769Why dont you make a genre combination? like idk, a guy gets isekai'd and decides to become not a regular adventurer, but a super hero with a costume and stuff. Hilarity ensues because nobody in that universe understands the concept of "superhero".You could also make a native isekai slice of life depicting the life of an adventurer's family member who instead lives a very mundane, regular life. Once in a while there's glimpses of the fantasy world out there but thats it.Also you could make spoopy food capeshit. Imagine a manga about a a silly and sympathetic supervillain who steals rare objects to use them as ingredients for dishes of his own invention and the whole thing happens in a "nightmare before christmas"esque setting. His arch enemy is of course the town's hero. Basically use the old to create the new.

>>7786340I'm 27 and I often think of that stuff but then I remember that a chunk of my life is just surviving chronic abuse by my entire family and the other chunk is just time spent fixing myself while trying to learn how to draw with what little time and energy I can muster, whereas Fujimoto and honestly most succesful people are dudes that had full support from their family or that at the very least werent relentlessly bullied. Also often in countries with much better artistic education than my third world shithole that doesnt really give a fuck about the arts. Idk what youre life story is but most people in 4chan come from backgrounds of being bullied by family or schoolmates, also had little to zero support or came from deep poverty. And 99% in countries that dont have anything as robust as the manga industry. Anyway my point is that fuck it, we all have our circumstances. Fujimoto got to do so much before 27 not only because of talent and hard work but also because he was lucky with a ton of shit that nobody ever acknowledges.

>>7785539what the hell
>>7786346yeah I'm the same way. Most of my life was just dealing with shit and I didn't really start living until I became an adult. Thats why manga is so fun, I have tons of fucked up experiences to turn into stories.
Thought I'd repost this here for interest but, I found out yesterday a DC industry artist lives out my way, and does portfolio reviews every month for free at a local comic shop. I went out and met him and nervously showed my work. >So his first thoughts were that it's hard to really critique or say anything since it's "so it's own thing and world" so any like rule breaking I'm kinda doing doesn't matter since it seems to fit the world I've created. For example, I don't necessarily have very fleshed out backgrounds or great perspective, but it also wouldn't really improve it if it did. He definitely got some laughs, and smiles, but also wasn't too sure on the plot, and isn't super knowledgeable about manga>The main takeaways I got were, try to make more depth. the bubbles not having tails is a little awkward, and sometimes the bubbles/text are in awkward positions>Also, I got a firm "no" on asking if I should redraw the 1st book because I hate it hahahha. "Just move forward"
>>7786381>and nervously showed my work.kek adorable, lil guy probably had sweaty hands and shit
>>7786381>the bubbles not having tails is a little awkwardYeah, for english I definitely agree. Some languages make it pretty obvious who's talking just by how what words different characters would use (japanese is an obvious example) but english not so much, most ways of talking are pretty neutral, you'd have to go out of your way to give someone an obvious accent or way of speaking to make it clear who's talking. So for clarity's sake it's probably best to just stick to putting tails on your speech bubbles.
>>7786381I think that's because a big part of passing critique is dependant on intentions, like "Are you trying to market this?" "Are you trying to fit into an industry?" "Do you just want to know how this feels to other people?" or "Do you just want my opinion?" I think the only baseline you can have without knowing what the goal is asking if it at least works on it's own, and what you got sounds reassuring. I think this is just good to keep in mind when asking other people "What do you think of my work?" Because so many people will interpret this through many different lenses, and give you A's and F's depending on standards they may not be sharing.
I think I'll share this here because I think a lot of people might enjoy it, and I honestly don't know if this image will ever get published or not.I'm still looking for that line on how much is too far and not. This image might be going too far. However, it's also relevant to some thoughts I wanna share after reading a lot of the conversation last thread.Honestly, idk where this anti-sex puritanism is coming from. I understand concern over oversexualizing something, but this idea that it's mututally exclusive from having a deeper narrative or rich characters feels misguided. Sex is fundamentally part of the human experience, and sex and sexuality themselves can be used to explore certain themes and ideas, a lot of which do blend really well with Horror themes and the aesthetic. Just look at the films The Witch and Nosferatu as examples if you.In truth actually, Horror and sex, have always been sort of married to each other. Vampire fiction was born from fears rooted in Victorian era puritanism. I think getting to draw and explore some of these concepts is exciting and interesting. Like, you can definitely turn sexual themes into something that's thematically relevant. On another note, this idea that it's "selling your soul" or whatever, also feels incorrect. I think this anon >>7784275 is correct. The female body is beautiful, and drawing the female form is a lot of fun.
>>77864552/3That being said, there is the caution of oversexualizing things as well. So to give an anectdote, I spoke with some female friends and such who've read the drafts in the past, about my editor's comments, and while they generally agreed with the direction, they also urged restraint because they really like Alice. And this is a comment I got from male readers as well. She's really likeable, and a lot of that comes down to how innocent and pure she comes across. My female friends basically said, "look there's also a lot of female readers who enjoy shounen manga, so you don't want to drive them away, by making them feel uncomfortable by pushing it too far either. A little is fine, but don't go overboard."I sent a lot of these images and thoughts to my editor, to try and find out where that line lies. I think he's likely to tell me to dial it back a bit, because sex can also be a double edged sword. For example, if younger readers can't read the manga, because it's too sexualized. Also, this post is laugably incorrect >>7784457The reason Alice became the MC is because the male protagonist is a werewolf, and the setting is a fantasy setting. Which means priority no.1 is establishng the high concept and how cool it is in a very clear way. Which in this case is "Doctors fighting Eldritch Dream monsters." This is extremely difficult to do if the MC stands as a paradox to the concept, being both a Monster and a Human. It sounds easy to pull off on paper, but when you actually start to try and do it, becomes infinitely more complicated.
>>77864563/3.....fuck, I deleted this part of my post without copying it... Give me some time to rethink what I said and retype it, as it was some imporant advice...ffs/
>>7785769Spoopy slice of life native isekai. Just *what* goes on at the healing potion bottling plant?
>>7786458>>77864563/3Think about what a chapter 1 of a manga needs to do. It has to:- establish the high concept of the setting very clearly.-set up the core conflict and make in interesting X vs Y-introduce the main protagonist, and give them, clear, simple, and easy to follow goals and motivations.-give said character an emotional through line what will make readers buy into them, and want to follow their story-create a hook which is interesting and will want to make readers want to keep reading more-lastly, present set pieces that allow for visual imagery that clearly communicates what it is about your work that makes it disticnt. I images that becomes iconic in their own right, but also communicat what your manga is about. For example, Luffy getting his hat from Shanks. Chihiro using fish themed sword abilities, etc...And you have to keep in mind that you're doing this, while also competing with some very competent and well crafted manga, like Kagurabachi, JJK, etc...Like, the high concept and more importantly HOW it's presented matters so much more in manga, than in other storytelling mediums imo. Because it's a visual medium, and because it's so fiercely competitive.Clarity of concept and clarity of intent are so important. What is your story about exactly?Ultimately, I'd say this is a lesson in learning to find the right protagonist for your story. Which is often not as obvious as you might thing. What I mean by this is, ultimately the concept of a protagonist who is both monster and human, and joins the group of people who fights the monsters isn't very original, but little simple spins on that formula, can radically change how it's shaped and you should seek to embrace those changes. If the story were a modern urban setting, then this set up might be much easier to pull off. There are tons of examples. But because the setting is fantasitcal, it becomes infinitaly more complicated. Thus framing the core conflict first, is the priority.
>>7786455It's essentially one tripfag that's complaining about it. Don't pay them any heed, they have been here for 19 days. If we ever get a mod hopefully they get banned.Sadly, you addressing their retarded concerns is only going to give him the attention he so desires.
>>7786469Noted. Hopefully some people will find my advice about "learning to find who the most suitable MC for your story is" somewhat useful. I think that's been one of the most meaningful lessons I've personally learned throughout all this.
>>7786455>Honestly, idk where this anti-sex puritanism is coming from.I'm going to level with you; in the last handful of threads, we've had 2-3 disingenuous larpers. They're bad-faith trolls pretending to be prudes. They legitimately appeared out of nowhere within the last month or so.That said, your comments about overdoing the sexuality/fanservice/etc. is a legit concern, but I think it comes down to several things. It can be respectfully done without going overboard. Also, sexuality and horror can go hand-in-hand, as things like sex or even nudity are acts done in intimate, vulnerable state. There's generally a level of trust that goes into those acts and your defenses are down, so in a way, you're putting faith in your partner that they won't harm you, or take advantage in such a vulnerable state.Besides, there are plenty of places even outside of anime/manga where sex, reproduction, or genitalia are used in a horror setting. Look at stuff like HR Giger's artwork, or the movie Alien. It is meant to be uncomfortable because it is taking those intimate, vulnerable facets and making them raw, and uncomfortable, but still compelling in the way he makes such a human act seem alien, mechanical, and industrial.
Didnt like the previous covers I was working so I hope I can stick with this one
>>7786455I'm rooting for you, Alice-anon.

>>7786455I just want to say as someone who used to scorn sexual stuff in my manga and anime during my younger days, I like sexual stuff in my anime and manga nowadays.
There's nothing wrong with including sex into any work unless it's aimed for kids.
>>7786455Based.I'll treasure that image.
>>7786517I think it's ok if done correctly. That depends on tastes though . It's a slippery slope. The more saucy you get. The more likely it may offend people
>>7786375Great. This character is also in the manga. The story is about the dynamic between these 3 characters
>>7786346Fujimoto is also overrated as fuck.
>>7786517What a profound statement....If you're a total retard.Sex has been part of entertainment since before any of us were born.Sex is totally fine. Sex scenes are in academy award movies. Even before the jews ruled it.Sex is fine, its just how you do it.Fan service is the great mix between the prude and the gooner. You can make something incredibly sexy, without having full of Skinamax. You dont even need sex. Nudity works too, even if it isnt sexual. Viggo Mortensen getting sliced up by Russians in a bathhouse is badass. Jovovich getting her skin replaced in the 5th element is both part of the plot, and gorgeous.Even the catholic church has nude depictions. I'll say again, only the biggest faggots, the trooniest of troons, and the gayest of prudes are against basic human nature. All have separate reasons. Either they interpret religion wrong, hate heterosexuality, or despise beauty itself.Draw beauty. Depict it. Just dont be a fag about it.
if you include sex in your non-pornographic works, it better have a meaning and relevancy rather than just being coombait to retain the viewercattle's attention like hollywood does.Using sex as the bait is a tell on how your work is mediocre and would be even less than that without the sex.

ok so what up with these things, everybody goes over how great they are, but half the time for me, the ink doesnt come out. Ive tried burning the tips for them, and not, and a couple india inks, and kuretake inks, but still the same issue. what brands do you trad inkers use
>>7785453anyone used chatGPT to generate a story?i like to draw but cant write for shitim suprised how quickly it can come up with story ideas, outlines, and even page by page/frame by frame ideas
>>7786632go ahead and be the first bud. you're making a mistake even asking this question.
>>7786632ChatGPT can be good for brainstorming, researching ideas and looking for deeper connections in certain elements. Figuring out where other things got their ideas from, translating dialogue, and even helping you break writer's block by kick-starting you into a scene or helping you organize your ideas into a framework. What ChatGPT, like all other AI, is not good at, is being creative. This also makes it an awful critic of work you give it, because an AI has no emotions and thus cannot feel, and the goal of a story is to stimulate emotion in readers.Ultimately, writers cannot be replaced by AI. Storytelling is a purely human thing.
>>7786456I like her already just from this page alone. Wish you the best, Aliceanon. We really don't deserve you wasting your time in this shitty echochamber with us scum.

>>7786635what mistake?

>>7786614similar issue here.I find that it depends more on the ink itself, something about the consistency, if you dillute the ink with a little bit of water (in a separate cup) it seems to flow better, or just dip the pen itself in some water.I've had inks that flow much hetter right of of the bottle as well, but it was more prone to smearing instead. Also use Bristol paper if you can
>>7786736also, I don't know if this is a placebo effect, but I found that prepping the nibs with concentrated white vinegar/cleaning vinegar gets the protective oil on the nibs off more effectively, i usually try to bathe them in it a little and then use a toothbrush on them with the vinegar.Do with this as you will
>>7786455I think this picture is fine. It's erotic, but also very tasteful and artistic.
>>7786455>I think I'll share this here because I think a lot of people might enjoy itThat's very thoughtful of you, anon. I love it.Hope it can get published.
>>7786704nu uh
>>7786614Burning the tips to remove the oil will warp the metal tines and shorten their lifespan, so i'd be careful with that. I dip them in lime juice for about a minute, and wipe them down with a clean napkin. You don't need to remove the oils from the nibs every time except for the first time or just any time they have touched or brushed up against something such as your fingers, so keep an eye on what you're touching. Don't use toilet paper or something that contains a moisturizer, like a nose tissue. Another thing is one of my biggest problems happened to be that I wasn't noticing how over time the water in the ink dries unnoticeably the more it is used, resulting in skipping and disrupted ink flow. Some thicker, waterproof inks like Deleter 4 require a couple drops of water to dilute it otherwise you can't use it properly. I just use Pilot.
>>7786632this just makes no sense to me, telling a story is just like talking. You can talk, right? If you are not willing to express your own ideas in your drawings, then how will you know if the chatgpt story will be any good? I just don't get it, AI is not a fast track to making good stuff if you suck. It can only help you do things faster.

>>7786890The funny thing is, we used to have "idea guys" who thought they could make it just being story mills to pass off to writers and artists and they could get a piece of the acclaim just by thinking about a story. Now I guess even being an idea guy is too hard, and there are people who literally need machines just have a sort of passive, abstract thought.
>>7786404It actually started out of necessity, I couldn't get the tails to work in krita. By the time I figured it out, it was too late, everyone started speaking their own font. But it also helped develop some talking mannerisms too I think?>>7786455Not too far. It's a cool picture. Overall I think intent plays a large role. I also struggled on some redraws for the physical book. sometimes if it seems it's not really relevant to the story sometimes I'll eyeroll and question if it was really necessary. This is mainly if it's not a gag, and just exists randomly. oversexualization when it's obvious camp and not serious, I think works too. Like that one chainsaw girl comic that is ridiculously over the top. Sex + horror has always been a thing and it works well. Something about the intimate space and vulnerability of sex combined with danger in horror I guess is a good contrast? Idk>>7786614I hear burning can break them... I usually use rubbing alcohol and clean them off when new. But honestly it can be a whole lot of things, ranging from bad paper, bad ink, faulty nibs, or a combination. But most of the time after loading up with ink, you might have to do some "starter lines" on scratch paper or an edge that's gonna be cropped, to get the ink to flow. Pilot ink seems almost standard, but I find not all papers handle it well. PH Martin Bombay black flows well for me, and instead of dipping, it comes with a dropper which I like. I also clean and wipe the pen most of the times while reloading it with ink, to avoid clogs, dried ink, tiny paper particle build up, etc... oh also! Angle matters!

>>7786926See, I always thought of myself as being an ideas guy. I had ideas about what I thought would be nice, and I still do. I have around 5 to 10 ideas bouncing around in my head at all times. But I'm also a doer and I actually put my pencil and stylus where my ideas are. Nobody is coming to "save" me in the sense that they'll make my story and certainly not as a charity. Anything story you think is worth doing needs to be done personally if you truly want to get everything down just so.
>>7786965If you're actually coming up with the ideas, and then fleshing them out through writing (making you a writer) or through making the art (making you the artist) or both, then you're not just an ideas guy.An idea guy just comes up with a vague concept and passes it off to someone else. Literally anyone can create a vague concept of a story. It just doesn't mean much if you don't put any work behind it.
>>7786517>>7786597This is correct.>>7786584This is gay.
>>7786455>In truth actually, Horror and sex, have always been sort of married to each other. Vampire fiction was born from fears rooted in Victorian era puritanism. I think getting to draw and explore some of these concepts is exciting and interesting. Like, you can definitely turn sexual themes into something that's thematically relevant. This is great if you can do it. Most people can't though and honestly given where you are I doubt you are one of the exceptions.
>>7786193I’m asking myself the same question,I’m really considering to make more stories in this comic strip format or if I were to make it one shot, I actually tried to expand the exact storyline a bit more. >>7786348I’m definitely down to post other works I’ve made in the past.
>>7786455I have to bring the Christian view and Truth Of God into this.>Sex is fundamentally part of the human experienceGod created humans to do such a thing for two purposes, to share love between two souls of a man and a woman as well as create more humans. This should only be between two who are married and in private. To bring such a thing out into the public is sexual immorality, something God himself says to avoid.>and sex and sexuality themselves can be used to explore certain themes and ideas, a lot of which do blend really well with Horror themes and the aesthetic.Horror in and of itself is not of God. God would never want such a genre to exist and such media would never exist in Heaven. Horror is a gateway to evil spirits.>Just look at the films The Witch and Nosferatu as examples if you.Such films would have never been made under God, they only exist on Earth because this is the devil's playground. Those who indulge in such media, be it creating or even watching, run the risk of falling farther away from God's Light.>In truth actually, Horror and sex, have always been sort of married to each other. This is just not true. What was supposed to be a Gift From God for two married souls and a way to expand the population has become corrupted and perverted into a sin of lust, a sin that harms people every single day.>I think getting to draw and explore some of these concepts is exciting and interesting. Like, you can definitely turn sexual themes into something that's thematically relevant. That's temptation, something we are not meant to indulge in, it always seems exciting and interesting at first until it destroys, even if it starts off small it will always get bigger and more out of control when no one puts an end to it as soon as possible, just look at Shadman and all the people having downfalls due to guilt by association with the guy.(1/3)
>>7787088>On another note, this idea that it's "selling your soul" or whatever, also feels incorrect. I think this anon >>7784275 is correct. The female body is beautiful, and drawing the female form is a lot of fun. There's a difference between doing something for beauty and doing something out of lust. Everyone is made in God's image, no matter the body type, no matter male or female. If one only draws the female form, especially a specific body type, well then they aren't doing it for the beauty of the bodies God has Gifted us, they're doing it for the lust.>>7786456>That being said, there is the caution of oversexualizing things as well. A little is fine, but don't go overboard."While a say even a little isn't right, i will say that i completely agree with the point at hand here. People don't want to see characters brutalized, be it sexually or not, especially for characters who are cute and innocent. Those into torture porn are few and far between and it's a good way to scare away an audience and gain a terrible fanbase that won't even be loyal to you or your works, just look at Goblin Slayer and Redo of Healer.(2/3)
>>7787090>I sent a lot of these images and thoughts to my editor, to try and find out where that line lies. I think he's likely to tell me to dial it back a bit, because sex can also be a double edged sword. For example, if younger readers can't read the manga, because it's too sexualized.Exactly. Kids must be protect from such stuff and no parent wants their kids to be exposed to such filth, with parents nowadays being more vigilante due to the rise of content farms, although sadly some stuff does slip though the cracks, but manga/anime is something that rarely does. From a business standpoint, to sexualize any project, especially nowadays, would be to ruin the potential kid market, as well as the market for those who just want a wholesome good time. Dead or Alive never got as big as Tekken for a reason.>Also, this post is laugably incorrect >>7784457 Explain why.>>7786458I feel ya.(3/4)
>>7787093>>7786467All i'll say to this is that i don't understand why people put stuff out there with the intent to compete with anything, just have fun and be filled with love and every little thing is gonna be alright. And i know you didn't mention the sexualization thing here but i gotta add, if you're wanting to compete in manga then the thing you should least do is sexualize characters for two reasons.1. If you wanna stand out from the competition you're gonna want to stand out from the crowd and sexualization is the opposite of that. With so many creators sexualizing their characters all at once your all just giving yourselves more competition when when it comes to standing out you gotta make sure you give the audience something that's not in abundance, and that includes characters. There's already an abundance of sexualized female characters, (This isn't even the first time i have seen such a thing done with Alice.) if you wanna stand out you gotta provide what's being done less.2. If you wanna be more like the competition and you stated Kagurabachi and JJK as examples, well then sexualizing females is what you don't want to do as the female leads in those manag are covered up and far from sexualized proving that there's a shift happening with how female characters are treated in manga, in fact i'll even add Demon Slayer and Dandadan on this pile as well. These four manga have their female leads do the opposite of being sexual and they became big hits so if you want to be more like them then take their examples with female character designs and draw your females more covered up.(3/3)

>>7787088I don't care about religionposting but the person is Japanese and is probably completely unaware of even Christian concepts. You'd be better off posting things from his traditional understanding instead of your reasoning being from something foreign.>That's temptation, something we are not meant to indulge in.Probably the best argument in-terms of a writing perspective. Exploring things you don't know about in a continuing series has a major chance of backfiring and turning a good series into something laughable. Good writing is based on an author's experience and gives it soul.
>>7787102I'll be sure to try the Golden ones next time. My issue mostly comes with creating smooth lines which I always assumed was just a skill issue.
>>7786456>"look there's also a lot of female readers who enjoy shounen manga, so you don't want to drive them away, by making them feel uncomfortable by pushing it too far eitherThose are fujos who unironically ship male characters and fantasize about them fucking other male characters.
>>7787108>I don't care about religionposting but the person is Japanese and is probably completely unaware of even Christian concepts. You'd be better off posting things from his traditional understanding instead of your reasoning being from something foreign.Ah, well then i apologize for not know that.If that's the case, from what i understand from Japanese culture, isn't a more modest women viewed more favorably than a girl who is more revealing? Isn't being more cute and petite more desirable than big busts and behinds? Isn't it more professional and mature over there to be more covered up? Aren't these the kind of traits Japanese men look for in a wife? Also, i hope he can understand the business standpoints i bring up here >>7787093 and here >>7787098
>>7787127> isn't a more modest women viewed more favorably than a girl who is more revealing? You're correct. On a personal level and even as someone living in the West I've seen so many hos and so many series about hos that my eyes drop more when I see a woman that is dressed modestly. My desire to learn more about her increases because I know she isn't showing me everything in the first go.
>>7786357It's two distinct skills you have to learn. I've come to notice that people have a hard time seeing similarities and merging on commonalities. A lot of the artists inspired by manga seem to be almost incapable of analyzing things from a story or narrative perspective. Makes it even harder for me to find someone to partner with someone because to me the writing has to be understood for the art to fit.>>7786352I'll find a Japanese partner to work with. Someday...
>>7787132To me, modesty shows a sign of respect. This goes for both men and women. For someone to go out of their way to reveal as much bare skin as possible to the public to get as many eyes on them as possible to me shows great disrespect, both for themselves and everyone around them.
Idk why is christianity being brought up recently but I am a christian more related to the chatolic side(to be honest denomination doesnt matter that much in this crazy time we are living in) and here is my humble advice for the anons: Like women, beautiful and cute women. Not just by appearence but femininity too. An ugly girl can be beauty by being feminine and a beauty girl can be ugly by acting like a man. I wish you all could find a beautiful and feminine woman, marry her and fuck her everyday from dawn to dusk and put many babies in her womb. Fanservise is supposed to be the appreciation of the beauty in a more primal level but when it's too much or done wrong it's just eros for eros. You forget the person is also another human and it becomes pornography. Ironic it was feminists out of envy that destroyed this and now everything is either hyper sexual or hyper prude idk they dont know what they want kek.
Keep dramafagging in /co/. Anti sex prudes are a nu-internet feature anyway and have been for a few years so it doesnt really matter.
>>7787156>Idk why is christianity being brought up recentlyIn general or on 4chan specifically. >>7787156>Fanservise is supposed to be the appreciation of the beauty in a more primal level but when it's too much or done wrong it's just eros for eros. The destruction of the meaning of eros into simply "hot woman" has destroyed the psyche of many men. Eros is physically appealing but what makes it physically appealing is that it draws you into something beyond skin deep. They merely shared their experiences and gave their opinion on the matter.Maybe they don't want to make Freiren or this or that. Or maybe they don't want to join the "movement" of more sanitized manga, etc... Let them make what they want to make. And you don't even need to look to westerners, there's south korean and taiwanese authors who broke into manga too and japan's more xenophobic towards its closest neighbors than any distant anglo or negro across an ocean. If you have to ask "who?" then you're in no position to be making such a claim in the first place.
>>7787321>The entire conversation was about having feedback on sexuality.Exactly. So there's no need to be giving someone unsolicited advice.
>>7787314What >>7787321 said. This was a discussion that the Alice Anon continued from last thread, a discussion i was apart in and it was all about discussing sexualization in manga and i being a follower of Christ have a duty to share God's views on such things as Jesus would want me to do.God wants humans to be humble, yes, but Jesus also wants His followers to share His Truth with the world and help redirect people away from sin, including the sin of lust, that's what the apostles did and that's what we should do and follow their examples, the examples of the apostles and Jesus.Notice how i replied to Alice Anon specifically, because like the other Anon said, the entire discussion was about having feedback on sexuality and i have just as much of a right to voice my own thoughts on the subject as everyone else in this thread even if you don't like what i have to say. This goes double when my thoughts are based in the Truth of The Lord.
>>7786467I'd be happy to help you with narrative and plot-related issues you're having. It seems like you're struggling narratively and aren't getting feedback because you're dealing with marketers and people who only know how to draw, not writers.I can send you what I have worked on to show that I care about narrative but honestly sayingI'm well-versed in /lit/ is probably the best evidence that I'll be the best help in this board.
>>7787329Alice Anon's posts were unsolicited advice to the entire thread based on a discussion that ended last thread so why get defensive when he receive the same in return?
What I will say is that this is a phenomena that doesn't seem that difficult to me, at face value. Bram Stoker's Dracula establishes all of these prompts very clearly and if monsters are a well known thing in your setting you don't even have to do large info dumps explaining them. I could entirely see something that mirrors entirely to the visit of Jonathan and Dracula except it switches half-way to the werewolf's perspective and it's revealed there's something different that separates him from the other beasts. I wouldn't advise dumping everything here and I understand I'm going off of very little information so I might be missing some important context. Still, If nothing else I hope this helps kickstarts your brain and the writing side you seem to be struggling with even if this is the last time we speak.
>>7787330>i being a follower of Christ have a duty to share God's views on such things as Jesus would want me to do.And now that you've done so (dozens of times) you don't need to anymore. We know your angle.

>>7787387He's been having a writing dilemma on the past posts to try and implement things and it came off as the massive rewrite for the story was for narrative reasons. It seems he's looking for help in that regard.Could be entirely wrong and he just doesn't care about any of this. Even so that just means you respond and engage with his points like a normal human being instead of putting him on a pedestal.
>>7787389Pretty good. The weight is impressive. What language is this in originally? If you don't mind me asking. This is clearly designed right to left.
Imagine trying to write stories for the modern audience that cannot for the life of them stand anything that doesn't fully agree with their own highly selfish mindsets and triggers an hostile reaction when anyone mentions anything outside their belief system. One could write a manga about zombie people like this and it wouldn't get far since it would get cancelled by the zombie people.
>>7787392Writing for Western audiences and/or social media terrifies me for this reason. It genuinely will be a last resort for me and I pray I never have to deal with it.

>>7787390I understand where you're coming from, but he's also got an editor who regularly looks at his work and analyzes it deeply, as well as a circle of friends whom he seem to share his work with.I didn't get the impression he was coming here for advice, but rather to share with us the experience of writing a story for the mainstream. Which naturally would include a lot of rewrites.People often ask "why does it take 2+ years after winning a contest for a mangaka to release their series" and alice-anon just gave everyone the answer to that question. It seems to be more of a common experience than a particular dilemma. Plus he seemed very excited about drawing his waifu naked, rather than lamenting it. Otherwise he wouldn't have shared those images of her with us.
>>7787392>>7787395I'm just not making my stories for a wide audience to begin with. I'd rather just not make anything at all than be beholden to some safe, middle of the road crap that is trying to be so stock and appeal to the lowest common denominator that it has no unique voice or appeal.
>>7787392>>7787406This is why Japanese manga dominate. Because they're made for the mainstream, but the JAPANESE mainstream, which is very different from the cultural insanity that is the west.

I have an odd layout style.I guess it's good to have drawings that can work well either way. The way the bubbles were laid out just had me believe that it was right to left. Maybe your idea of switching from right to left will help with contests or people who have interest, though it is a bit silly at face value of course.>>7787401>I understand where you're coming from, but he's also got an editor who regularly looks at his work and analyzes it deeply, as well as a circle of friends whom he seem to share his work with.I know the pain of having nobody in your circle group be writers. It's why I bothered here in the first place. I assumed all of them are at best people who can draw or are simply marketers.I see your point regardless. This could entirely be coping on my part because I wanted to believe he wanted to prioritize good writing. Looking back at it now it does seem to be 2/3rds coping to justify last minute changes that seem very sleazy with the last part containing some useful information. Hope I'm wrong though.
>>7787407>which is very different from the cultural insanity that is the west.Just don't delude yourself that the East hasn't been poisoned by Western post-Enlightenment ideas that brought apart this level of hyper-individualization and hyper-sensitivity to begin with. The East has many issues both imported and native but they are more conducive to creative writers currently. The most important thing is that Japanese and other countries outside the West actually still value reading.
>>7787407They just know their audience, and the know the stories they want to tell. In the west (at least in the US) everything has a vetting process that has to be approved by a board of directors and shareholders, so whatever unique vision the creator has gets stripped away in hopes that it can become a generic product in an attempt to appeal as many people as possible. Its why most creative endeavors almost always bomb. They're not really being made "for" anyone. They're just being "made."
>>7787316That's my exact point.Sex appeal is a multiplier, not an increment.A boring manga is boring and boring manga doesn't sell.
>>7787395I was thinking more of something critical of modern consumeristic focused mindsets; like the insane obsession with sex and ideology, since this really would hit the current zeitgeist.I just came up with half an idea of a type of supernatural detective that would go around finding demons or some shit by ragebaiting on the streets with usual statement that instantly triggers the usual suspects.Of maybe the detective is an alien detective that has to find escaped alien prisoners disguised as humans.Well, You would very soon find yourself at the end of a pitchfork mob since it would really touch on the modern consumer's ego.
>>7787411You worded it better than I did. Japanese publishers are more open to risk-taking than American and many other companies. I'd hate to deal with ludicrous formulas and cover topics I have no interest in knowing full well that following trends will sacrifice why I write and draw and not even for much financial success.
>>7787414That sounds incredibly fun. I'd help you on the writing department if you wanted any. You're right though in that it wouldn't sell well unless you REALLY lean into the counterculture route and go super absurdist which you seem to already be planning.
>>7787415That's kind of why I feel like it is a bit redundant when people ask about "making it" in the west. The metric is skewed, because it is no longer best to go the old fashion way of really trying to get yourself into a big or established publisher, because they're probably the ones who are going to want you to start hacking your material apart to fit whatever they want. Its probably better to forge your own path by building up a very loyal small fanbase who is going to really support your work, and then go the route of a smaller independent publisher or just crowdfund or self-publish in some way.Obviously, you can still become successful the old fashion way, but that might come at the cost of your vision for your work, or you may need to build yourself up doing other stuff you don't necessarily want to first.
>>7787421>A very loyal small fanbase who is going to really support your work, and then go the route of a smaller independent publisher or just crowdfund or self-publish in some way. This does seem like the best route, and one I'm probably going to end up doing even though I'm not pandering to Western audiences at all. I have a small fanbase right now but I'm looking to either find a way to get a Japanese contact that would help get me published properly or a way to consolidate my current small group into a cohesive plot point/story element and market entirely off of that.
>>7786641The follow up page is funnier imo.>>7787343>>7787347I appreciate it. I have another friend who I met through 4chan, who is a beta reader. But I've met him irl when he'd visited Japan to do mochikomi, that's why I trust him so much. I'm tempted to want to share things, but at the same time, I wary of oversharing while it's still in preproduction. What might not seem like a spoiler right now, could actually be a pretty significant twist once it's serialized. That's why I'm very hesitant to talk about deeper elements of the story.>>7787324Never directly. Japanese people don't tend to be very direct with stuff like that. He often mentions works in passing as reference to a particular point we're discussing regarding my story.>>7787409>This could entirely be coping on my part because I wanted to believe he wanted to prioritize good writingI mean, it'll be good writing... to the best of my own ability. Which will be worse than people who are more talented than me, but it'll still be the best I can do.I'm fairly well read in both literature and philosophy, obviously Gothic and Cosmic Horror have become an obsession in preparation for this. Philosophically I've always been a huge fan of Nietzche personally. And some of my all time favorite books include Dune, Blood Meridian, and Frankenstein. I love the Fate series, and Nasu's works. I love Lord of Mysteries. Naturally of course, I'm big on From Software and Bloodborne lore. I've read tons of old books on Alchemy and Occultism, such as the writign of Cornelius Agrippa. I've done tons of research into all sorts of esoteric mysticism, such as Gnosticism. I love history, so I'm very well read on European history.I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
>>7787388Misleading? I have been sharing God's Truth. What's misleading is to tell someone that sin and wicked behavior is OK.And bringing in a Christian point of view isn't even the only thing i told Alice Anon, i brought up some business standpoints here >>7787093 and here >>7787098Did you even read what i posted or did you just assumed what i said based on what other Anons have said about my posts? In fact, while my views do stem from God, a lot of what i said are views from any kind of people, even those who don't believe in God.Feels like you only have a problem that i brought up God and not with anything i actually said. And i have been quite for the most part, like i said i only replied to Alice Anon, no other Anon in this thread who agree with him, because Alice Anon brought up a discussion from last thread that i was apart of so why not give more of what i have to say.I understand that he's a Japanese manga creator, but like you also said, there's millions of others like me, and all those people like me are going to provide thoughts on his work.I have said this before and i'll say it again, if a creator wants to get an audience then they're going to have to learn how to accept feedback from the average media enjoyer like me and there's going to be way more people than i who will provide their thoughts on his work if he ever gets his manga published, including western people who prefer chaste and modesty like me.Like i said, we're all on equal ground here.
>>77874252/3However, I'll say something I've learned over the course of doing this. There's a huge gap between writing and being self-indulgent, and deep. And writing and learning how to package those deeper ideas into something palpable that could have success in the mainstream. And I think that's the key point here, right? It's actually really difficult to write something that can have mainstream appeal. If it wasn't then anyone could do it.The decision to switch to Alice, wasn't a last minute change, or a radical alternation of the story. In fact, if anything, it's returning to roots. When I first concieved this concept, it began with this character. When I first designed Alice, she was a witch who would hunt werewolves. From there as we developed the idea, I concieved of Rune because I knew she needed a male counterpart so the story had more depth to it. And because Alice would hunt werewolves, then it only became natural that the male hero would be a werewolf.Rune was framed as the MC, because I didn't believe Alice would have enough appeal to carry a shounen battle manga on her own. At least not in the way I wanted to write her, which was as a very feminine sassy tsundere. But she's proven me wrong, and this latest version is far and away the best draft of this concept that I've written so far.Anyway, to cut things short. The point is that storytelling, especially in the early stages involves a lot of experimentation, trial and error, and discovery. I think you want to exhaust all the possible options you can, and try ideas out, before jumping into a serialized story.
>>7787407Honest question. If Japanese media is doing so good then why is the Japanese economy doing so terrible?
>>77874273/3I could go on more about specific details about my experience, but I am a bit wary about oversharing and spoiling story elements.Ultimately I couldn't tell you if the story will have good writing or not, because it's difficult to judge your own writing isn't it? All I can say is that I'll do my best. And that I care very deeply about the themes of the story and the characters. I think about them so much, that they're basically like real people to me. Ultimately, it's them who are dictating the story, not me.
>>7787428an economy is far, far bigger than just one part of one industry
>>7787430>>7787428Also, economy is largely dictated by debt, which Japan has a lot of, the purchasing power of your coin, and the ability for your country sell bonds of that debt to investors, based on the trust that the bonds hold investment value.Economy is way more complicated that "this thing makes a lot of money."
>>7787425>>7787427>>7787429how do I learn to draw like this?
>>7787430OK, i get that. Can someone also explain how and why their economy has been in a terrible state? Thanks for the reply by the way.
>>7787432Draw a lot, and have an editor who tells you "I can't read your chicken scratch, make it more clean so I can distinquish the characters. I don't care if it takes you longer to do it."
>>7787431Oh, well thanks for the responseand the answer.Disregard >>7787433 as i made that reply before the thread updated.
>>7787432make a lot more comics than you presently have
>>7787425>Japanese people don't tend to be very direct with stuff like that.I assumed so.
>>7787425Well if there was a way you wanted to talk about it privately and felt comfortable with me I'm available.>But I've met him irl when he'd visited Japan to do mochikomiHow do you find Japanese people on here with an interest in story telling? I desparately need one. If not here than other sites?>Nietzche, NasuOh no. Well I'm much more into the Greek philosophers since I heavily disagree with the notion that God and spirituality are dead. I find nihilism to be ultimately meaningless to talk or write about if you want me to be completely honest. Frank Herbert's cyclical view of the world is something I view far more positively than negatively.>>7787427>And writing and learning how to package those deeper ideas into something palpable that could have success in the mainstream. This is correct. Stories exist to simplify real concepts and to encourage the reader to understand the real world in a way they couldn't prior. You have to make sure your ideas actually conform with reality though, otherwise you create something that doesn't really attach to anyone outside of edgy teenagers who also have never experienced reality.> I think about them so much, that they're basically like real people to me.That's good. It's important to treat them well and that they exist to tell something far greater than themselves or ourselves, and not just as our mere puppets to play and (un)dress for our amusement.
>>7787439i'm begging you, don't take bakuman at face value. it is a work of fiction.
>>7787439Bakuman, while very entertaining, can be quite misleading since so many things are hugely exaggerated for drama.I get very detailed notes from my editor, but oftentimes on my own story, or specific things. Also, in my experience Jump and Magazine seem to have different approaches to editing. Magazine seems to heavily prioritize and respect the creative intent of the creator. At least in my experience. Jump on the other hand seems to more directly tell you HOW you should do things.>How do you find Japanese people on here with an interest in story telling? I desparately need one. If not here than other sites? He reached out to me the same way you did. Thing is, I'm also a huge introvert and very private though. So don't take it personally if I'm a little hesitant to connect.>Oh no. Well I'm much more into the Greek philosophers since I heavily disagree with the notion that God and spirituality are dead. I find nihilism to be ultimately meaningless to talk or write aboutI've read all of them, I had to for school.I like the greek classics, there's a lot of wisdom there, I just find Nietzsche to be finality of philosophical discourse in a lot of way. Also, I think that the idea that Nietzsche is a nihilist is a misconception. It's actually the opposite. It's Schopenhower who is the nihilist. Or rather the precursor to nihilism, as his beliefs can be described as metaphysical pessimism. Nietzsche who was his prodige, is moreso a response to that philosophy, wherein he critiques the progression to mankind, and how we've divorsed ourselfs from a higher purpose or idea (ergo, God), and warns about the consequences of that. His writings about the last man, being very prophetic for our modern times. But he does also offer up a solution to that dilemma in the pursuit of self-empowerment and enlightenment. That's what I like about Nietzsche. Which I also find interesting because his ideas closely line up with Buddhism.

I keep making significant typo errors which sucks.>>7787443>>7787445>>7787443>He reached out to me the same way you did. Thing is, I'm also a huge introvert and very private though. So don't take it personally if I'm a little hesitant to connect.Story of my life lol. Even worse my parents are talking about my prospects of finding a woman when I have to deal with this again. Well, I'll just keep talking to you and hope that either you'll trust me or I'll be able to get with someone to trust me with the connections I need.>Nietzsche is a nihilist is a misconception.Fair point. I still think metaphysical pessimism and nihilism are functionally identical as someone who view metaphysical hierarchy as necessary and so important to understanding the purpose of life. My main criticism mostly comes in with pushing the idea of becoming an Ubermensch to bend history to it's will, which if I remember right is his genuine position on how to find purpose in this world. I don't necessarily disagree with this on face value, but promoting it from a media standpoint is dangerous because it's teaching people who do not know about the path the enlightenment to be rebellious which only causes long-term damage. I view the Philosopher King as the Ubermensch so I wish to promote the former as it is harder to misinterpret. Still, I'm pleased Greek thought is taught in Japan, since what I have and plan to continue focuses on that very well, though it does broaden to other areas I definitely cannot remove the Greek aspect being the locus point so if Japan doesn't like that I'm cooked.
>>7787459~ouch. but fair, the fight scene is pretty set in stone as far as im concerned.
I want to draw a webcomic in this style, but I don't know where people post this shit anymore. I just want to draw pages like a normal comic, the scrolling webtoon bullshit doesn't appeal to me. Does anyone have advice?
>>7787463>another anon who also does detailed storyboardingYes! YES!!
>>7787467There are plenty of places you can post in normal page-by-page/chapter format that isn't scrolling. Comicfury, Globalcomix, Mangaplus, and plenty of others.
>>7787463Best news I've heard. I dont mean to ouch anything, sorry you've had some chaos and all.Glad you're keeping those panels, I think you have some great shots and some killer perspectives, and I'm glad you're keeping em.
>>7785453btw if you are waiting to post your work post it on new website called pommu since twitter needs to be nuked to oblivion im so tired of this mentally challanged retards on X you draw something and there are literally 20 people telling you it's somehow racist or have ideology behind it.
>>7787472Are they relatively active? I don't know much about the webcomic scene anymore to be honest. Some of my friends told me to post on Twitter but that seems like fuckass advice
>>7787448make. comics.make a loooooot of comics. there's no tutorial that will get you there.
>>7787475I dont have that issue. I'm not a fan of twitter, but maybe we have different audiences.
>>7787475>mentally challanged retards on X you draw something and there are literally 20 people telling you it's somehow racist or have ideology behind it.Don't think I've ever had that problem.
>>7787475>>7787479X is too big to fail.Give it a month and Pommu will be as relevant as Threads and Bluesky.
>>7787483I've never even heard of it. Is it some jap thing?
>>7787484Yup it's from DLsite.
>>7787485ah ok the name is a giveaway. Should I even bother if I already have a pixiv, or am I getting the same audience already?
>>7787488No.If you have people on pixiv then stay there currently. Later if it's get bigger somehow you can just link.
>>7787392If I was in my 20s in the early 2000s I would be the number 1 western comic artist right now.
>>7786455>>7786456>>7786467>Also, this post is laugably incorrect >>7784457 >Immediately proves me right with pandering goonslop imageNot even going to read your essay defending your garbage comic because you've already reenforced my position not to bother reading it with that picture alone. Neither you nor your editor have confident in your series and when it trails behinds (should it ever see the light of day) you're going resort to the shameless soft porn faggotry to keep an audience like every other forgettable mangaka ever. God speed with your series I suppose thougn I know I will likely never pick your comic out of the pills of countless other mediocre wannabe pornoslop that's out there.
>>7787500>taking ESL adviceNot even once.
>>7787500PYW you NGMI crab
>>7787477Mangaplus is legitimately like the de facto (legal) digital manga reader site. It is run by Shuesha and has all of their jump titles on shit.Globalcomix is a legit site with tons of traffic, because it is where lots of western comic publishers like Marvel, DC, IDW, Image, etc. have their digital library. They also have more relaxed rules than Mangaplus, so if you have any NSFW or other more adult themes and whatever, you can post it there over Mangaplus.ComicFury is a more traditional, old-school webcomic upload site. It doesn't have a TON of traffic like the others, but if your comic is good enough and you have a relatively consistent update schedule, you could amass at least a few hundred dedicated subscribers. I just wouldn't make it your ONLY place to upload, if you only plan on uploading to one place. There are definitely more options, but maybe someone else can weigh in on those.
>>7787500i'm looking forward to you being proven correctly.
>>7787475it's just a repeat of misskey, mixi, and pawoo and 3 other jp sns that i can't remember. it's going to start well then progressively become less active over time and just be in a zombie like state. it's actual purpose is to market and sell dlsite products, it has built in easy link to previews and instant purchase buttons. it's missing many basic sns functions but the devs are prioritizing external linking into other sites to link to dlsite seller profile pages. it's on an emergency maintenance now because a bunch of SEAmonkies decided to act like idiots and spammed garbage, ironically repeating misskey's incident.
I always find it funny how ESLs give themselves away as samefags without even realizing it.
>>7787508Thanks for the rundown, is it still okay to post like one page a week these days? Last time I was really into webcomics that was the norm, but I don't know if webtoon fucked that up for everyone.
>>7787514>it has built in easy link to previews and instant purchase buttons.sounds like a genuine usecase beyond "twitter but over here"
>>7787517Well, I think MP and Globalcomix are more setup for full chapter releases, or larger chunks released all at once. ComicFury is actually more set up as page-by-page, though whether you want to do one page a week, or a couple pages one at a time throughout the week, or whatever is up to you. You can still batch-dump pages there, but the default takes the reader to the newest page, so unless they changed their settings to save their place, I think they may end up skipping over pages if you dump like, 5 pages all at once or something.
>>7787425>>7787427>>7787429>spending over a year of planning and revising just to build the foundation for its earlier chapters aloneJesus Christ.I wonder how are mangaka from WSJ whose work got axed under 20 weeks still remain sane. They're basically working for free for years, got paid for 20 weeks, than got fired.Damn.
>>7787519DLsite/vivion had a project like this a few years back, it probably just morphed into this. In the long term, it's probably just going to be used to link and sell DLsite things by linking into other SNS probably. There are already many other "artist first" japanese SNS that went no where, this is just another one in the end outside of the DLsite marketing function. If you're looking for a twitter replacement this ain't it, you'd probably need a project funded by one of the big boys like kadokawa or something for that
>>7787525I think that's why so many young mangaka just give up and quit. You put so much love and effort into something, only for it to completely flop. It must be absolutely soul crushing to experience.Jump is exceptionally ruthless compared to other magazines though.
>>7787525>>7787528It's horrifying. In that process right now and I'm trying to gauge if it's even salvageable plot wise so I don't have to deal with the soul crushing experience from a businessman.
>>7787500Yes anon, I'm sure your jealousy fueled rage post is going to convince him to stop drawing sexy girls.
You niggas are in here sucking dick as if anon is going to forward your mangas to his editor.
>>7787523That makes sense thank you anon. I guess I'll do page by page on some websites and then "save up" to do bigger chunks on the others. I miss when webcomics were more low effort but it seems things have really changed over the last ten years.

>>7787553First of all, the entire concept of a 'silent manga contest' is a fucking joke. It's an excuse for the lazyass judges to not have to translate shit to read. Fuck off with that 'muh mastery of visual storytelling' cope because a good fucking manga needs proper dialogue and proper story.>But da winnerzz??The most likely scenario is the various silent manga winners did get access to more opportunities in Japan, but folded immediately due to the stresses of navigating such new opportunities+having to make something that wasn't just well drawn wholesome chungus emotionslop+etc, because they suck and all of their shit is boring as fuck even as winners. And even then some of them may have been funneled off to become assistants or whatever, and you wouldn't hear of that.>Nobody's gonna take this global manga award seriously, not even Japanese readers themselvesEven an unregulated shithole like the mangaplus creator program resulted in that no/name manga to get formally serialized, as well as the occasional secondary award winner being formally published on the official website. If that isn't being taken seriously then I don't know what is. The hope is that this mysterious thing kodansha is planning is a legit proper competition formatted similarly to contests in Japan without any shitty requirements like no dialogue or whatever, which will be a huge potential stepping stone for filthy gaijin to maybe have a chance in the manga industry
>>7787603And also what >>7787602 says, they are probably rotting in that little club house thing cuz they likely can't make any good serial pitches, or have all become assistant monkeys already. This was my first time practicing using screentones so I went overboard with it because its just 3 pages. Its a few years old and I cringe looking at it but seeing how readable it is with all the tones greying it up now is giving me new insight, since I'm thinking of redoing it or making another 3 page practice comic with the same characters. Fucking 4chans post limits means its gonna be a few minutes to post it all.

>>7787751I was not able to find anything relating to rules, just a list of prior winners. The splash teaser says that further details would eventually be revealed.
>>7787794Alright. I probably wasn't going to win but might be good practice to try anyways. The speechless prompt that was mentioned actually is something I'm a bit familiar with.
>>7787747I dont think you went overboard. Looks good to me.I will say it also feels like something that will eventually go on /aco/. Maybe its just your style.
>>7787829The problem is /aco/ hasn't had its own /hyw/ for a very long time. It didn't even die cos of anon drama; it withered away cos of lack of user participation. Nobody was posting anything anymore barring maybe one or two anons.
>>7787831I dont even draw nudity, but Id go there if this /co/ drama doesnt leave us soon. Even if its just me and one other anon
>>7787829thanks, it does feel too webcomicy in that way
>>7787843In theory that's more than fine - the main issue is making sure that the thread stays alive somehow. /aco/ is a fast-enough moving board. The lack of user participation meant that threads got bumped off the catalog fairly quickly. If that issue can also be solved, then sure I'd participate. I used to post there and people were also decently focused on comics during its heyday.
>>7787843>>7787831id participate there if those threads reopened.
>>7787831Most of the regulars and long-timers who actually participated in both /co/'s /hyw/ and also went over to the /aco/ threads are long gone, though.

>>7787750>>7787748>>7787747cute artstyle and funny, do you post it anywhere?
>>7787949
>>7787967I mean, sure, it'd be neat to bring it back but a large part of the reason it even existed at all was because /co/ is a blue board, so you can't post NSFW there, but you can here. Though, while plenty of people did post NSFW comics there, plenty of it was just pinups/splash pages/illustrations. Posting that stuff is fine here, though I'm sure people don't want the threads just flooded with random, single-images not necessarily tied to a particular anon's comic/manga.
>>7787966no, it was just those three pages so its not something for a comic site.
>>7787843>>7787914/aco/'s /hyw/ was a general catch-all for comics that didn't meet /co/'s blue board status. You had people who would draw outright porn, people whose stories happened to involve a lot of (not even necessarily sexual in context) nudity, and people who didn't even have nudity or sexual situations at all but the comics were deemed too violent to be allowed on a blue board (which I know sounds crazy). While it existed, /aco/'s /hyw/ was a decently comfy place. The skill level of your average anon was still way lower than it would be in /mmg/ but it was still a great general.
>>7788023do you have any other comics?
>>7788088yeah, I am galknights anon. But I just wanted to share heavy screentones and bring the thread back to manga

There was a thread in /co/ with everyone talking about how much better trad comics are, but if you wanna make art consistently, and quikcly, is it really conceivable to keep doing trad. Alot of digital manga looks trad, and they get all the benefits of digital, and come out much faster
>>7788295>You guys think theres actually a difference between digital and trad? Yes there is, and in a world where people are getting more and more obsessive about it thanks to AI you better notice the texture and thickness varieties.>but if you wanna make art consistently, and quikcly, is it really conceivable to keep doing tradYou have to do some level of digital for text at the minimum, but the speed depends entirely on your comfort level. The most consistent seems to be to use traditional for the drawing and inking process, while you use editing software for grayscaling. I personally find it significantly faster to do most of the work on traditional and loathe the editing process.
>>7788295>>7788303Just do the style ya guys want and go at your own pace. There's no rush.
>>7788315Jake's finally making some sense.People can say whatever they want about digital v trad but ultimately neither is going to fix bad form, composition etc. And especially won't make your ideas more interesting.
>>7788331Totally! I don't see why people don't like him, he has tons of great advice and is actually pretty skilled at drawing. I also like having him around fellow anon. I cant wait for him to review my comic!
>>7788339The amount of rage his existence proves makes me think he might be a secret exorcist or something.
>>7788295>Alot of digital manga looks trad, and they get all the benefits of digital, and come out much fasterI don't necessarily get where this "digital is faster" sentiment from. You can either work fast, or you can't. And coincidentally, there are still many mangaka that work traditionally. There are plenty of people who just like the feel of physical materials and what they can do. Frankly, I think it is one of those things where it is usually pretty easy to parse out a traditionally done manga and a digitally done one.I personally prefer to work traditionally. I even have a bit more respect for people who traditionally, because there is way less margin for error if you make mistakes. You kind of have to be a lot more committed to what you're doing, since you don't exactly have an undo button, layers to work with, transform tools, etc.
>>7787260>shonen manga that tried adding sex appeal or sexual stuff as its last attempt to grab readers' attentionNothing wrong with that.A little spice within sausagefest ain't hurting anybody.
>>7788379>shows a manWow there really is an agenda to turn the zoomers (I guess upcoming alphas) gay.
>>7788362Honestly it mainly just comes from seeing the ways they can quickly produce backgrounds and patterns. Reading manga online, ill notice all the backgrounds are clearly photos or traced, where as it would take me forever to get the background fone. I was browsing some manga making forums just now too, and what sparked this was this guys page, where most if it is just 3d models, with a couple of figures drawn. Alot of manga looks like this, like chainsawman half the time. Got me thinking how most people dont care if it looks “cheap”, even i dont care alot, especially if the storys good and the characters are drawn well. Drawing characters is easy for me, its the other shit thats hard, and digital lets you get around it. Honestly i might try seeing if i can do digital backgrounds with trad characters
>>7788401>Honestly i might try seeing if i can do digital backgrounds with trad charactersI tried doing this in Clip Studio Paint. I'll mess with it again but when you're doing fantasy settings it's extremely difficult. >Got me thinking how most people dont care if it looks “cheap”They won't if it isn't distracting. Basically just keep things interesting. Don't spend your whole life being a perfectionist but I will say drawing traditionally actually incentivizes you not to be a perfectionist. At least for me.
>>7788401At the end of the day, yeah, it really just comes down to getting it done as quickly as possible. Most readers aren't going to care or even notice. For me personally, it just looks too sterile. It looks pretty obvious that it is just traced over 3D. It isn't really bad, it's just serviceable. When I see backgrounds or art I really like, I mull over the page quite a bit and hang on the little details. I guess to me, this just doesn't really have much "voice" or a personal touch to it.

>>7788379>the boys are cuter than the girlWhy even bother adding female characters at all? Might as well just make the coach and the manager male too. Nothing changes.
>>7788401>those city backgroundsHoly traced 3d. Ew. Ew ew ew.
>>7788480At least tracing takes some time. You think he traced all of those bricks on the sidewalk?
if using 3D assets is OK, using AI is also OK.
>>7788495UmmmmmmNo.
>>7788495Yes. What matters is the end result. However, AI has a tendency to look uncanny. Likewise, the lack of control when it comes to generating images. The benefit is, all AI genned art is public domain because it's not human made. So if you find an AI genned image which matches what you need, then you can use it, trace over it, etc... The downside, is, this won't stop the drama addicted idiots on the internet from accusing you and going after you if they find the original image. You could just gen your own images, but that is its own hassle, and you spend more time genning images than drawing. There is nothing morally unethical about tracing AI though, no. Again, what matters is the end result.
>>7788506This.>>7788503Wrong.
>>7788495You mean tracing over AI? Or purring AI straight onto the paper, because you can't just put 3D models straight onto the panels as-is.
>>7788522>AI fundamentally eschews that potential pitfall by creating images that are ultimately too different from anything that already exist.except for when it doesn't, there have definitely been cases where an AI image very clearly mimicked something very recognizable. i don't have any examples on hand, but haven't there been lawsuits over AI getting too close to trademarked brand stuff?
>>7788527It can mimick something, and that's perfectly fine, but the mimicry is never close enough to actually be comparable as if you were to copy or trace the image directly yourself. If you take the AI genned image as a base to make your own image, then now it passes the "test" if you will for it being transformative. You have to understand that ultimately, ideas don't have ownership. In the sense that, nobody can copyright a pose, composition, color scheme, theme, etc.... you can use any of these, directly even, from an AI image, and use them to create your own work, and in that process, it will be significantly more transformative, than if you'd used an existing artist made artwork as your base inspiration. Ultimately, even if your artwork winds up looking vaguely similar to someone else's, you could never be accused of stealing or plagiarism, because it would pass the checks for being transformative, simply because it went through at least two filters of transformation by that point. Especially since, you're unlikely to ever take EVERYTHING from the AI image, only a few things. That alone already makes it transformative enough.tl;dr - what I mean to say is that ultimately AI can serve as a library of references and inspiration that can generate much more copyright friendly images to borrow from than if you use other artist works.Ultimately, creativity requires copying. This is the hard truth that most artists, have a difficult time admitting. But ideas don't ever come from nothing. Only amateurs think that. The problem arises when the line between how similar is too similar is unfortunately very vague. AI can act as a good safeguard against that.
>>7788531>You have to understand that ultimately, ideas don't have ownership.Except for intellectual property which are ideas that are owned.
>>7788534And intellectual property has legal limits and restrictions, and is ultimately determined by a judge, not the court of the internet.I think most people would quickly find that their baseless accusations of "plagiarism" over a similar pose, would ultimately fall flat in the actual court of law, because you cannot copyright a pose or composition. The copyrighted work is the artwork itself, and there are legal definitions for how much transformative something needs to be in order to be deemed it doesn't infringe on copyright.
>>7788537Lol the issue people have with tracing/plagiarism isn't the legality my man
>>7788539Then their issues aren't grounded in anything moral, but pure baseless sentimentality born from ignorance, and and a lack of understanding of the creative process.
>>7788540well regardless of whether or not you approve, those people are the audience, so it matters how they feel about it whether you like it or not
>>7788522PYW please, you sound based
>>7788539Tracing makes for some bad and incohesive artstyles which is why I tend to ignore it. I have been attempting with merging camera footage with drawings but I have to make it in a way that it still is consistent. AI also sucks because it's bad and inefficient. Those are the arguments I care about when it comes to both tracing and AI.
>>7788537Ironically, the "court of the internet" almost matters more here than an actual, legal court. You can trace all you want, but plenty of so-called artists who have heavily traced artwork have been chased off the internet or even out of conventions where they are trying to sell (largely) stolen artwork.People do not really think as highly of tracing as you think. At the bare minimum, don't be stupid enough to trace like a super recognizable piece of artwork or something. Some people are dumb enough to do that. That's not the same as like, tracing 3D models you created or something.
>>7788554All that proves is their ignorance though. End of story.
>>7788554There are a lot of more ethical wrongs in the world than bad art techniques so the Internet court isn't something that matters. It should be avoided because it's very rarely actually useful. If it is, it will be far more useful to simply be able to draw it by memory to save a lot of time. Using assets provided by CSP other software, or just your own images is something that can also look off, but is an example of an efficient way to actually save time and not make it look so awkward if you can get the settings right.
>>7788558>There are a lot of more ethical wrongs in the world than bad art techniquesThat is irrelevant.>so the Internet court isn't something that matters. If you are an artist, making art to sell, and you've done something to drive your potential customers away by turning them off to your work, ,that absolutely matters
>>7788554People only care because they need drama in their otherwise pathetic lives. It has nothing to do with moral or ethics.
>>7788561And again, that only proves their ignorance and hypocrisy.Tracing over 3D models and photos is fine, but tracings over AI art is not? It makes zero sense.
>>7788554>the "court of the internet" almost matters more here than an actual, legal courtWrong. AI is being heavily used for art across all industries, and consumers still consume. The people that care are a loud minority that is increasingly irrelevant. Companies like Bethesda, Blizzard, and Activision have all had blatant AI art called out on social media. The artists weren't fired. The mob forgot about it within a week. With gen alpha/beta growing up with AI part of their daily lives, it will be even less relevant in the coming decade. When they start becoming the major consumers and creators of society, using AI will be no different than using a calculator. No one cares if you can do math without one, what matters is the product.
How come the pro AI people never post the comics they're making with AI?
>>7788569Because they're eternally waiting for it to get better. You can see AI comic projects on crowdfunding sites that fail out left and right and get barely any, if any at all support/backers. AI isn't the "instant win" button people make it out to be.
>all this talk about sexual contentJesus.Just remove the female characters all together and have all male cast.Problem solved.Works for JoJo, works for Hokuto no Ken, works for Golden Kamuy, works for Kingdom, works for every popular sports genre.
>>7788569Because it was never about skill. Even if these people had perfect skill, it wouldn't matter, because they would have developed skill if they had any real drive to create. They have no ideas, no creativity, no real desire to make anything, and nothing to say. It doesn't matter that the AI can generate images for them, because they never had anything they really strongly desired to make, or they'd have learned to draw. So when it comes time to actually construct a page, they get tired quick and give up without ever finishing anything. They'll talk a big game about their "game changing" ideas, but they barely have any knowledge of what's come before so anything they pitch comes off as trite shit, because it is.

>>7788621>fetish gooner slopFucking dropped. Fat female knight playing on tropes would be a great concept. Imagine her thin starving squire having to cook second and third breakfast, then being gaslit when he tells her that her armor doesn't fit anymore with the classic "it's just water weight". Then their horse dies mid journey from a broken back, and the squire is forced to carry her. However, this is not just to make fun of fatness, but to explore the idea of how a fat girl knight would actually play out. She yearns for adventure, but also cakes.

todays progress.
>>7789334Not bad. A few tips for future pages.Try to avoid parallels when doing action pages. The diagonal cuts are great, however a slight variance in how you cut the horizontal gutters would make it much better. Like a sort of "building of intensity" the more intense the action gets, the harder the diagonal cuts. This would make the flow of your page a lot better. Likewise with the vertical gutters, giving them all a slight slant would greatly improve things. Think of this way, perfectly straight lines in action pages convey the feeling of things slowing down or pausing for a bit.No.2, the action in the middlemost panel is difficult to read. I'm not exactly sure what is happening there. I think this could a general thing that could said about this page, I think this whole sequence would work better split into two pages fir the sake of flow and clarity. Give the significant beats a lot more impact by making the key highlights.No.3, the line work is nice and clean, but the actions and poses feel a little stiff. I would advice not to directly trace your underdrawing with so much precision, but rather using it as a guideline for a more clean inked artwork on top. This way, you can ensure your inked drawings have a lot of energy. I would also recommend making greater use of action blurs when characters make big movements. The goal of art in action sequences is more convey a sense of kinetic impact and movement rather than being super clean and pretty, so in action you're allowed to be a lot more "messy" if you will. Pic related is a good example of what I mean and a good standard to strive for.On pretty much all three points in fact.
I made her shirt long sleeve in half the panels and had to fix that>>7789365>with the vertical gutters, giving them all a slight slant would greatly improve things.I will probably slant the last two panel borders a bit to fit your example. since thats an eazy fix>the action in the middlemost panel is difficult to read.
