I think the angle of her upper arm should angle out more, keeping your arm straight down in that position feels stiff and right now it doesn't look like it connects to the elbow properly.
I also thought her hand only had three fingers at first, I tried to help you out with a redline but I didn't manage to do a good job. If there's something useful in there then good, if not we can just have a laugh about it.

I saw that, it's probably enough to make it a little more obvious, but in the case that the ref pose is hard to understand to begin with it might be better to change it in your drawing rather than trying to copy it exactly. Easier said than done, though.

>what is the problem here
Not them but here is what I'm seeing:
The ratio of you asking for critique to you spending time studying is very bad. Spend more time figuring things out for yourself or people will think you are being lazy. With all the resources out there it should not be hard to go several days without asking other people to spend their time on your work. Being able to self-critique is a very important skill and is more valuable than any critique you will get here.
Overall you post 10x as much as anyone else and you will bury posts from people who only post occasionally.
You are also often posting about yourself, your feelings, your situation, etc. That kind of discussion doesn't belong here, and if you post it people will call you attention seeking.
Lastly, please put your trip back on. You have made a number of people dislike you and they are venting their frustrations by insulting you. Being able to filter you will at least give them and unrelated people a way out.
I'm sure everyone has their own thoughts on the matter but if you can address what I listed I think there won't be much complain about.

It's one thing to deliberately obtain a style, to work on something ad nauseum so that it willingly becomes a habit to fall back on when you're left to your own devices. It's another thing entirely when you are stuck with the STINK of your own, something unique to your own fuckery that not only are you unaware of, but are surrounded by people who can clearly see it.
>Oh. That was drawn by anon. That's how he draws XYZ.
You can't escape it. Even when you do your best. Professionals can't escape it. Some claim to double down on it, but it's realy just some mental glitch and fuckup that makes it so that every single FUCKING TIME that you draw this thing, that thing, those things, your methodology will result in that STINK. The STINK identifies your sex, country of origin, media consumption. You can't escape it. I hate this shit so much.

step one requires you to physically trace a shape around the reference so this is kind of useless if the entire point is to learn how to be accurate without tracing?

Everything you ever draw, whether you realize it or not, will be built out of 3d shapes, not lines.

Construction lines are references that make it easier to visualize that 3d space, and give things like faces and bodies a consistent position and point of reference. Tons of tutorials to follow on the topic. Once you get a feel for it your art will improve significantly

Drawabox isn't bad because it's "boring", is bad because it prioritizes being an exercise in misery over teaching you how to draw.

You should know how to draw a box well. You do not need to spam the same thing over and over to get to that point. Drawabox is for people who want to flex how hard they are working while not having to ever step outside of their comfort zone (the one thing that you actually need to do to learn how to draw)

I am telling you drawing thousands of unparallel boxes to learn perspective is not a good way to learn perspective, if you're starting out it's going to crush your drive, best way imo is to draw simple car designs and people next to them, swap cars with buildings, mechs or anything that has volume and it would be better, having an actual product to show with your art rather than doing studies is going to give massive motivation for people plain boxes are the simplest form for perspective but its not good practice in the long run

That's a complex example I posted. I highly recommend reading the first chapter of Andrew Loomis' Fun With a Pencil. It eases you into the concept by first having you draw a sphere with some extra shapes attached, very very beginner friendly stuff and it will absolutely make you a better artist.

I don't believe you, you absolutely should be able to use ratios when drawing boxes from fixed angle.
This books has the author using ratios when drawing human beings, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to do that with boxes, a much simpler shape, especially if they're all constant, like in that exercise.
You might be much better at drawing than me, but I simply don't believe you.

you don't need to believe me, you can setup a cube in blender and see for yourself
a problem with remembering ratios (the degree of convergence, really) is that you don't have good measurement points as soon as the cube is rotated on more than 1 axis
the ratios that might be helpful are the ones for the 1st row/column (i.e the ones that have only 1 axis of rotation), and you can easily deduce them with the blender cube

i kind of tried tracking it with steam's krita but it ended up stressing me out cause the stuff i put out is so little compared to the hours i spent.
i quit at 601h and used the portable ver since then, i don't think it's healthy it sucks the fun out of drawing for me

Here's a quick comparison. Top left is the first thing I drew in a long time back in december. 3 hours of attempting to copy a washanapple piece. Rest is stuff from this month. I also made this yesterday >>7802586 which I'm pretty proud of. I'm still firmly in beg territory though.
>>7803749
Maybe. On the other hand, I just remembered Oridays also autistically tracked his hours and had a lot more success, so who knows.
>>7803757
Oh man, if I went by time I had CSP open, it'd probably be closer to 2k now. I'm way too easily distracted.
I do agree though that it can suck the fun out of drawing a bit, or rather overshadow the fun you have while drawing. Having a good 30m session always feels less like a success than just phoning it in for 2hrs. And I do think I should probably fret less about having a lot of active draw time.

Thank you. I do think I have more weaknesses, but yeah, my rendering is very lacking. I just haven't done a lot of rendering for most of my time, so it's something I have to catch up on now. Been watching a lot of Marco Bucci the past few weeks and just tried pushing myself to do more stuff with value and color.
>>7803811
I don't visit other boards anymore. I won't deny that I hoped someone would ask me to show my progress, but I was genuinely curious if and how people track time. I usually just see people mention months or years which doesn't really tell you much I think.

The biggest issue is how dark you colored the juices in combination with it being anal. The easiest fix is to make the man lighter skinned which would also add some much needed contrast anyway

I copied and studied many artists who post practice sheets like

and I often consult anatomy books such as Anatomy for Sculptors, Hampton and Morpho

I found some old studies that I did, but I wouldn't use them for learning since they are old and inaccurate...

Anatomy? Style? Lineweight? Perspective? I cant even copy shit and seeing the very talented artists just come up with amazing stuff from memory is making me feel hopeless again.
I cant even begin properly and some people keep redefining where the finish line is because they have no skill ceiling.
Why did god make me talentless.

Drawing hair and fur is kind of tricky to me. Trying to make both cats in this have a sort of poofed up fur look to them but I am not sure if my apporach is working. Especially with the more humanoid catgirl on the left, as she is sort supposed to have a very short but dense fur coating that only really makes itself apparent when she poofs up her fur.
>>
>>7804349
The concept of "big medium small" shapes apply here - if you want the fur to look as appealing as possible, although it's more "realistic" to have the fur all at the same length and density, it'll read much better if you focus on having a variety of big, medium and small tufts that indicate the presence of fur rather than individually drawing each strand, and the same for drawing hair

I don,t really know, the color red seems to show up as a form of alien life, on this one I tried to use it as much as possible, but mainly it's just a study from observation
>>
>>7804360
Hm I see what you mean
I'd say since it's stylised push it as far as you can by having the hair stand as close to 90 degrees off the surface it's attached to, the kitten's fur seems to stand at a straighter angle than yours, and there's rim lighting that makes the tiny hairs stand out
I think as long as your pose looks good and it's a difference to how she usually looks, the fur will look like it's standing
But honestly grab some references of other stylised artists and see how they tackle this, and soak up their skill, that's the quickest way to improve it
>>
>>
>>7804377
Yeah, I think I'll have to look up some references of how other artists have drawn angry cats etc to see if I can use some of the same techniques for this.

>I think as long as your pose looks good and it's a difference to how she usually looks, the fur will look like it's standing
Usually when I draw her I tend to keep her outline smooth because her fur coat across her body is supposed to be very short so when she isn't puffing it up it basically just looks like she has a greyish skin, like in picture related. She is only really supposed to have longer hair on her head, and across her spine and over her tail.

I'm not the best at construction, usually just use it to check if something looks wrong. the main issue your construction boxes have is they aren't facing in the right direction. see the red rectangles those sides are facing the viewer but are completely hidden in your construction.

you forgor the triangle of the extended fingers. Try looking at where your fingers join your hand when your fingers are straight (like a karate chop) and when they are bended 90 degrees (like a fist). If you draw the palm as a rectangular box, you might wish to add that part also.

>>7804167
You're not at a point where you benefit from constructing a figure/mannequin. You lack knowledge of skeletal landmarks to be able to investigate the angle at which masses sit in 3d space. In this drawing especially, there's some ambiguity here, the viewer may be settled at the hips and we can just barely peek a top plane because they are tilting forward. The reason I think that is because of how the oblique connect to the hip and then the angle that makes to the ASIS of the pelvis. That angle along with the one between both ASIS points gives me a good idea of what the orientation is. It might be even flatter than that. Secondly, your construction should still adhere to the reference, at least in this case. More so be close enough to the major angles that make the pose. You lack the observational skills and knowledge to know what's wrong.

You need to find a method that you can actually copy and understand what the abstraction means in relation to what it represents on a figure. Tracing helps with that. You'll be hard capped by an inability to copy though.

>>7804439
nta, those hips are way too short. The mark you put down for the oblique also contradicts the orientation of the hips you traced over the image. It makes it appear as though the hips are coming way towards us cause the implied ellipse is so open. If you look at the bottom of the breasts and the angle it creates, you'll notice that its heading up to the left, not down

tl;dr
You both aren't capable of seeing the proportions of the subject yet. Your construction suffers in part because of it. >>7804452 also this.
>>

forgot image. There's many ways to construct a figure. Really construction is just a tool for navigating 3d space.

>>7804588
Use plumb lines. It's effectively using a vertical or horizontal line as a means of comparing points or angles. If I bring up a horizontal line up to the top of that belly button mark, I can see what else lines up along the horizontal line. You have yours placed correctly, but the bigger angles and placements are what hold or make the drawing look like the reference. In your case, the ribcage is too circular rather than ovoid, so it looks like she has a beachball for a ribcage. It is too tall. Waist is too thin by comparison too. Where the obliques poke out on yours is too far too and is too long. Notice the blue line in pic related? The triangle that's making I'm comparing to yours and it takes up much less area. you can draw it in 3 lines.

You've picked a boring angle to draw the booth at, when you're looking at it straight on like that a lot of depth will come from details. The snow on the windows is a good start, emphasize it more and add the same thing to the ridges on the top of the booth.
The horizontal lines under the roof are also tilted compared to the top of the door, they should be parallel. Inconsistencies like that will impair the sense of depth.
Finally, and this is unrelated to the depth you were talking about but the emptiness of the background and area outside the telephone booth make the scene feel less real. Obviously there's meant to be a contrast between the snowstorm outside and the safety of the telephone booth but the complete emptiness of the outside world feels odd. Adding something like blurred headlights/ streetlamps to the background, and some footprints or the slight indication of a sidewalk around the booth wouldn't take away from the concept and would add some more life to the scene.

for lineweight i think about it in 3 passes, you might find it helpful too:
first are my lines representing the shape well enough? (also consistency and line quality)
then am i bringing focus to the right areas? (thicker lines for emphasis of the main shapes / shapes closer to the 'camera')
am i reflecting the lighting scenario well? (subtle thickness in intersecting areas to show shadow depending on the lighting, like a triangle under the chin / armpit / groin etc)

also as an aside, flip your canvas and take a look at the head. if you imagine the skull as a ball then one of the ears seems to be attached to the center of the ball rather than the side, and the skull may be a bit small (though your style looks fine with a slightly squished head to emphasise how big her body is)

>>7804970
Take this with a grain of salt but from my understanding if you do construction with boxes it'll give you a more solid grasp of the perspective in the piece, and frankly seeing professionals using non-cubes is a testament to their skill if anything, and not the easier way of doing it.

I'm not saying I'll never use circles, I just have a feeling that using amorphic shapes for construction is something I should 'graduate' into eventually instead of just starting off with it. I think it is looking better
but a few tips are

1. I'd suggest either studying from pictures or masters because many artists will either commit mistakes or do absurdities for the sake of style, aesthetic, etc
2. don't stay on the same ref for too long, by that time you would have learned more if you drew a ton of hips and torsos from an anatomy book
3. avoid skipping the gesture phase
4. the block of the female hip can look more feminine and sensual by spreading out at the bottom like a skirt
5. after you make the hip block you can carve out panties and make the cylinder of the thigh attaching to the outer corners of the panties

>>

hm i think you can tell that the construction is a bit off yourself from trying to draw the outline of the form and giving up halfway through
i would also question how useful this particular form of construction is - the rib cage being flat on 1 side and ending at just a flat edge at the neck doesnt help you describe the form of the structure under the skin at all, or the perspective of looking down on the character in the reference
this is why boxes are helpful, and i refer to my goat

>>7805330
Honest question, why did you put the cross-contours on the arms like that? I get not being able to do foreshortening well when you're still a beginner, but the way you did it would only make sense if her upper arms are going away from us
>>
>>7805335
I don't know.
>>
>>7805336
Wdym you do don't know? You don't know why you did it like that? So you didn't think it was correct at some point?
>>
>>7805338
No real reason, honestly.
>>
>>7805341
I see.
>>
>>7805343
Do you think I would benefit from running 60-second figure drawing exercizes?
>>
>>7805346
It would probably not make you worse, but I don't know how much info you'd get in 60seconds yet.
I think you should just pay more attention to the directions of the limbs for now and really focus on getting the cross-contours correctly. I think that would be much more valuable to your understanding of forms.
If you do that for now, I think it doesn't matter if you do 60 second or 10 minute figures at the moment.

But if you want to try 60 second figures, go ahead. Just don't only do them I'd say.

The post right above yours is a good reply.
Getting the perspective right is easier when using a box, and then you can convert the box into a triangleish kind of thing.

Here's a pretty quick construction of what i mean. If you take a look at your fingers when you do the motion of bending just the knuckles with extended fingers from the front and the side youz can notice the the fingers on the inside (middle and ring finger and the internal sides of the index and pinkie finger) dont actually "meet" the knuckles.
Its a bit tricky to get down bu thinking of it like a cylinder that has a protruding middle facing the fingers is easier, since as it disappears, your bottom pads (where your fingers meet your palm on the bottom of your hand) begin to portrude outwards.

Seriously how can I fix this so im not deluded by my own mind? Flipping the canvas isnt enough.

just looking at a lot of good artists in general, I started studying dsloogie at the beginning, eventually moved onto a bunch of capcom art and then learned about bridgman which was the big changer, the way I learned about bridgman was zoomer formatted I just watced a bunch of videos about it and looked at pinterest/photo ref. I found it that real life reference useful in posing but not anatomy if you had no idea what the fuck you were doing so I just looked at a bunch of illustrated works on anatomy. There was this one anatomy book from the 90s or early 2000s that was really helpful but I can't remember the name. right now I just learn vilppu by looking at bunch of his art. My advice is to make a huge pureref or pinterest board of good illustrated anatomy images you can find and apply them to your art in how they function rather than copying one for one
