does this have any appeal, or look convincingly 3D at all? it's mostly just abstract stuff and low res to hide imperfections. ideally I'd take a picture of these on a CRT to hide imperfections further and embrace the low res I'm drawing on a black background and 'pulling out' forms by using one color and applying pressure to make it lighter, as if it's coming forward in space, feels a lot like digital sculpting feels far more intuitive to me than the regular line art into color and lighting approach, and I dig the atmosphere it creates. also seems really good at creating a full range of value the bits in teal near the bottom and left, abstract grassy environment and cyclops near the bottom are newerlet me have it

>>7825239there's no set ratio of looking-to-drawing, but look before you draw. for instance, a lot of people start with the head and work down the figure. so you could start by looking at the head, seeing it roughly has an ovular shape, and try to put down an oval. then, add basic lines for the neck, then start with basic shapes for the arms, all the while double checking the relative proportions and placement of the features. and just go through the rest like that. it can be good to do copies of constructed figures to not only see but work out in real time how you might apply these shapes and lines to novel contexts. there are various methods out there with more or less overlap, but just experiment, see what makes sense, and make it your own over time.

I've only been trying to draw for 3 days now. I can't draw a cube or a circle, and my lines aren't straight and are uneven. I've just been drawing with a 4-color ballpoint pen on lined notebook paper since it's what I had laying around. Really the number of steps between the swatches you're blending will soften the edge. Smaller brush would facilitate more strokes on a large gradient, like with pencil. Anyway, before blending get your shapes right. Use plumb lines to look for alignments and paint zoomed out. There's a lot here that you've over complicated without getting the general position of things of first. Probably better off starting with some primitives or other still life compositions. Worry about edges later and get your shapes right first. You can do the exercise on the left so that when you want to do some edges the challenge with be conforming to the shape rather than the entire blending process.

Just trying to understand the why for fundamentals.Lines are about hand control for straight lines, elipses are hand control for curves, cubes are for perspective/proportions.Practising these will then help when I try to draw something later?

Not only is talent real, and some have negative talent, the utterly ludicrous examples of incompetency krenz gives on his videos are real. I guess it's about mentality, complacency and drive, if you output something like that, and don't feel shame in yourself, then there's no hope for you to make it out of that skill level. Everything I ever put out fills me with dread. I see dozens of issues on everything, and shame myself for not correcting them. I have to imagine, you haven't even felt anything at all when drawing, other than complaining about the quality of your output, without doing anything about it. And do not tell me you try to, because if you did, you wouldve stopped drawing like this a month in.
