Prebeg here with a question: is there an analogue to Loomis' fun with a pencil but in video format? Or any decent video course for beginners, really. I'll be honest, I'm struggling to learn by using books alone. It just doesn't really click for me, no matter how hard I try, and only ends up feeling like I am forcing it. I feel like I learned more by just trying to mindlessly copy images rather than attempting to understand the books
>>

I noticed last thread you were talking about popularity and rendering. First from what I studied from the rinotuna video course is that he colors with hsl color space. This avoids muddy colors but makes my artwork soft looking since it's lightness. If perfected, I think hsv color space can make professional results.
>learned rendering in 2 week.
I've been studying longer than that and I still can't render consistently without a color reference. But I'm getting close to figuring something out. Sometimes I overthink everything because I don't use reference half of the time. It gets me frustrated.
Popularity. You can get popular but I see that nobodies earning that passive income. It's all about getting into that right crowd. Now I guess my stuff is acceptable. But I like to challenge people, for sport I guess. The internet is extremely dense with dumb people. They'll be nice to get on your good side, but will default to caveman if they're being challenged or have to work for it. I'd just accept that things will not go my way, so why not just troll e-personalities, leave, call it a day, an then play a video game?
Trying to figure out what to do next. I'd like to do something emotionally charged. Like, suffocation, or deep thought, to see if it would catch on. But maybe I'll just get 6 likes as per usual.
>>
>>7834396
Draw yourself beating the ass of whoever you were arguing with.

The best way to draw through high emotion is to draw that emotion out of you. I do it all the time
>>
>>7834414
I posted below you, share your game. Yes, I get that too, people say "why should I play your game?"

They need their mom's permission or a arbitrary reason to play a fucking, you play games because you want to or you think it looks cool.
I'm considering using some form of AI just to crowd control these stupid ass comments. Then have it send me the results I guess, I'm still struggling with this too.

I do some of that nonsensical scribbles to get accidental "stylish" lines or shapes, if it sucks it sucks, but sometimes you get cool stuff. It's just an exercise, nothing to lose, everything to gain if you're lucky.

I'm looking into getting some of Faber Castell's pitt graphite pencils and found this
>regular ass set of 11 pieces of pitt graphite
>6 pcs pitt graphite MATT, which is only slightly cheaper than the 11 piece set
What's the catch here? What's the difference in the matte pitt graphite pencils as opposed to the non-matte ones? the non-mattes (pictured) are pitt graphite too by the way, but not the 9000 series.

Right now I have some el cheapo Hiforny pencils which are dogshit, I'm looking into rich graphite pencils that give deep shades and texture. I'm combining them with Strathmore and Maruman papers.

Day 3 of not being able to draw anything because I tore my wrist. All I do is sleep and read manga now. I want to hang myself extremely badly and if the pain doesn't go away soon I actually might. I need to draw
What do I do? Usually I spend all my free time drawing but now I genuinely can't. I tried to draw for 10 minutes today and made my wrist hurt even more than it already did. Is there something drawing related that I can just do with my mind or something?

Anyways, expect to see me spamming my practice here again, friends.

>>7834591
So in the first pages of that ebook you're using, there's a really important paragraph about using it as a medicine, not a diet. You should be coming to these exercises when you see a specific problem in your drawings you want to fix, then go back to drawing and apply what you practiced.

You're going to wind up like >>7834524 if you don't remember to actually draw.

yeah. I made the same mistake with Drawabox
thing is, if I drew what I wanted to draw right now it'd look so bad it'd make me want to quit forever. I'm not at the stage where I can draw something I find cool like pic related, it's not even worth attempting yet
if I did try, it'd be a case of 'coming to these exercises when you see a specific problem in your drawings you want to fix, then go back to drawing and apply what you practiced.', but in this case the specific problem would be literally everything since I can't even draw a teapot from imagination, so I need to learn the very basics
I'll probably draw some fish or insects or something for 'fun' and try to apply the lessons

>>
>>7834619
This is the actual /beg/ trap. The one thing that separates people who make progress from people who keep going back to grinding boxes every six months after they inevitably burned out the last time.

The drawings you make right now are not, cannot, and will NEVER be at the stage you can draw something like what you posted if you do not accept that practice is not a project. You can grind fundies diligently for the rest of your life and will be no closer to drawing an image like that than you are right now.

For some reason people treat art like it's not a skill. You don't see carpenters giving up because their first table sucks. They take what they learned and build a better one next time. Even in a fucking video game, like Street Fighter, you can stay in practice mode all you want but will never actually get better at fighting without fighting.

If there's one thing every /beg/ needs to take to heart, it's that you need to banish the idea of "bad art" and recognize you are looking at a roadmap to your own improvement whenever you can see the difference between something you drew and what you want to draw.

"Everything is wrong" is unhelpful procrastination. It's like trying to build a house and complaining there is no house. Pick one thing, figure out how to do it better, and do it better next time. Move on to the next thing.

so basically I need to actually draw the kind of shit I want to make instead of waiting for the day I feel ready to attempt it, which will likely never arise, and that I can't fundie grind my way into making the stuff I want. also I should be using fundies as a way to solve problems so I'm actually applying what I learn
I hope I interpreted what you said correctly
idk if I should jump right into the deep end and copy / study what I'd consider to be my end-goal, or draw things slightly lower in difficulty, like simpler creatures or characters or even animals, but I'll see what I can do and try to post something later that isn't just boxes or lines

alright I made something that isn't just lines and boxes
this was observational drawing since I didn't use any construction, largely because I don't know how. took longer than I wanted, obsessing over small details. also should've drawn at a higher res and used something other than hard round for rendering
I can see a whole load of errors in sizing, relationships etc, the main reason I dislike observational drawing since the failure points are so clear

why are the new threads made so poorly?

I just noticed how you capture the texture and subtler forms with line nicely. I find that hard to do, easy to get confused with all the small details. gotta remember to set it to grayscale and blur the reference image next time

I spent this whole year doing figure studies, and I'm still drawing exactly like I did three years ago, so not doing those anymore. I know getting actual advice on this board is a pipe dream, but does anyone have a pathway for me to get better? should I be grinding exercises like this one >>7834451 until I blow my head off? maybe spam geometric shapes in perspective? Kind of hard to give you any advice without knowing what it is you want to draw. In general, when you're in a rut, change something. Different medium, different subject, different artstyle, whatever. Doing the same thing has obviously gotten stale for you.

could you share something from three years ago?
>>
>>7834619
It's comical that you got so many replies and not a single one tells you the correct way to achieve what you want.
It's the same as with learning any skill really.
You have to be able to break down a big problem into small more manageable problems. If you want to draw something like your pic you have to break it down into smaller pieces you can practice
>male anatomy
>animal anatomy
>gesture
>foreshortening
>rendering
Grinding boxes won't help you with anything. But neither will bashing head against a wall trying to conjure up knowledge from thing air, unless you are a kid and have like 10-15 free years to fuck around drawing random shit.
What you actually have to do is go to the ref thread, get reference packs with muscular male models and grind figure drawing. Find some cool pose references on pinterest. Find some animal references and draw them. Copy Hogarth's anatomy book. In between copies try to draw some figures from imagination. No crazy poses, but not a simple standing straight pose either. Just some contrapposto. First avoid detalis, only major forms, then work your way up from there.
Do this and you will gradually build all the skills required to draw your picture.

Are you begs really arguing if some beg is tracing when the drawing is so wack?
>>
>>7835353
It's some schizo. Maybe his attempt at poor mans bait, instead of drawing?
>>

I'm on the day 4 trial by god of injuring both my hands so I can't draw for shit. He's testing my fire. Throwing water to the flame to see if there's any longevity to it. He also has placed me in an empty house, without any friends to speak to, while it is raining. I hate it. I managed to get the cut from my left hand infected so it doesn't really work proper. I feel like that one anime girl amputee image where she's laying on a bed. But now it's Christmas themed too. Whatever. I'm out again. Soon forever and ever
>>
>>7835373
Oh I forgot this was meant to clarify that I wasn't the one posting that. Because why post if it's not a drawin

I think it's just one guy with a vendetta against him. There was an uppity and boastful tracefag here a few months ago but I don't see the resemblance. It's obviously not traced given how intentional he is with how uniquely unappealing he makes his lines and forms.
