Anon, you're allowed to draw whatever you want no matter your skill level
what matters is the love behind what you drew, not the skill level of it. Soul >>>>> skill. If it wasn't like that, AI would be better than 99% of artists.

Once you get something you loved out of your mind and in the front of your drawing, the initial feeling of satisfation will be so strong you will become addict, and even aroused at high quantities. So yeah. Dopamine is the best way to fixate knowledge and addiction into your mind.

Do both.
Make a lot of quick/loose drawings of the subject you're studying, until you get track of things and later you attempt at one or two drawings with more detail, taking note of what you lack. Repeat.

I was sent here from /adv/. How should I exercise exactly? Should I just draw from reference or try meddling with construction shenanigans? Picrel I drew with the circle construction trying to mimic Kubo's style. I drew some other stuff but I deleted it since it looked so bad and it seems like on the drawing tablet my lines are less stable and look like shit. Also is there a way to get smooth lines like some of those professional artists have on their art? Is it the pens I use on Krita? I'll send some of my hand paper drawn "art" that I drew from reference.

Improvement doesn't come instantly anon, people improve at their hobbies at different paces. You shouldn't be ashamed that you can't draw at the level of professionals.
you just have to keep drawing and having fun, and before you know it, you'll be at a level you're proud of.
so just keep trying, ok? I know it feels bad when you can't really get whats in your imagination onto the canvas, but if you just keep trying and keep being stubborn and not quitting, you'll get there.

>begging people for guidance
If you mean in general I have some thoughts from your posts in previous threads. It's more about the learning process and finding a way forward than about art, though.
First of all, it's all too vague. Your goal to draw whatever you want can't give you direction. Break it down into smaller goals so you can focus on one thing. Even figures is too vague. Same for when asking for advice. People like your figures and think they look good, if you just ask how to improve they won't know what to tell you other than to keep drawing.
What specifically do you not like about your figures? What specifically do you want to know how to improve? Usually if you can say it clearly enough you no longer need advice because you can just look it up.
Second, I recommend actually trying the advice people give you. I saw several posts that I thought were really good but you dismissed them.
One was to try using different brushes. Another was to draw something to completion. If you are stuck in a rut mentally, it's best to shake things up. Doing the same task in a different way or learning/drawing something different are opportunities to do so.
Aside from that, I think that there is a lot more information that you could be sharing if you want good advice. What you have studied and how. A video of you drawing in real time. Things like that.
>>
>>7838578
You haven't lost at anything anon, this isn't a competiton. We all do this for fun, and you're just a little behind is all. You just have to keep drawing to improve, and not with the mindset to improve, but to have fun. It's that simple.
>>7838580
even with guidance you won't get better instantly. You can know the techniques, how to do it, the workflows and such, but you still need experience putting those to paper. It's like comparing a doctor who just finished university to one with 1 year of actual experience working in a hospital. They both know the same things, but one had time to actually apply the knowledge they both studied, so he's better because of that.

SO AGAIN, DO YOU GUYS THINK I COULD LEARN TO DRAW LIKE THIS ?
>>7838592
But it is, I have low self esteem, i dont wanna take 10 years to draw like someone learns in 3 years.
See what i mean, i wanna be good
in 2020-2021 i did was grinding fundies daily, daily for 7 months but i never really improved....i got depressed, i havent actually drawn a single thing ever sicne 2022
>>
>>7838453
You need to draw huge breasts.
>>
>>7838596
Fundies are meant to complement your art, not replace it. you training for 7 months was useless, and wouldn't make you improve at all.
You can draw like pic attached, but you have to actually draw, and you will take time to get good like that.
i'll just say this once: To get good at drawing, you have to... actually draw.
If you frequent the thread's discord, you'll know I draw almost everyday for hours, and I have a life outside of it. I work 12 hours a day, and I still find time for drawing and improving, alongside taking care of my life. So you shouldn't have a problem doing so either.

>language barrier
I will keep that in mind. You can try using both your native language and english together if you want.
If you can't explain, showing is fine too. But I don't get much from just the images. Are those your drawings or just drawings you want to emulate?
What parts of the images do you like? The right one I can see some similarities to what I've seen you draw in terms of shape.
>which brushes?
It doesn't matter. I struggled for months to reduce my sketch time. One day I tried drawing with pen and paper instead of digital, and suddenly it just made sense and I was able to draw faster.
The point is that when you do the same things in the same way it gets harder to learn.
Try anything, as long as it's different. Draw your lines as slowly as possible. Don't use lines at all and only draw with values. Draw plants or clouds or buildings. Things like that can work too.
>what's a good perspective book to follow?
I've only read "perspective made easy", but I do recommend it, it's a short read, starts out very basic and practical, and gives exercises at the end of the chapter so you don't have to think up ways to practice.
>I doubt anything would be willing to watch me wasting an hour trial/erroring construction
I would watch it, at least. Even if someone only speeds through it, there might be things someone will notice.
Another example of mine is that when I started out I focused heavily on line quality, so I used only very fast flicking strokes and would repeatedly draw and undo them until I got it right. It made my lines look great at the cost of a lot of time. But I started watching better artists draw and they don't actually draw that quickly, and when they do it's not all the time. I realized I was using stroke speed as a crutch, and it's actually a necessary growing pain to go through the phase of wobbly lines.

There's lots of little reasons. I've never really left, though, I just don't post all the time. At some point, I have to draw more than I post.
That, and I'm bad at posting my sketches online. I usually just like to draw more, but I've been drawing traditionally for a while now, painting included. Wanted to draw digitally again, which is nice, but also be more active again. I'm still bad at painting, but it's getting better.

>since u posted this wip-thingie, what does your progress actually look like?
>i forgot if u had posted it before
Thank you!!!! I posted a WIP/process page a while ago (picrel). I don't remember if you were around that time, maybe lurking. I'm too self-aware that what I do is unfair, because I use a VERY small sized canvas to fit an average of 5 panels. To do a comic like this you should use at least a 3000px canvas FOR EVERY PANEL lol. I can only do extremely simplified figures, expressions and "backgrounds"..
-1st- rough sketch, just enough to visualize the dialogues,
-2nd- ultra simplified lineart, hard round brush no "line-weight" at all..
-3rd- I roughly close all the gaps in the lines, duplicate that lineart layer drop it down and bucket fill with a few colors (3 or 4, now I'm using just monochrome variations of pink).. and
-4th- I select that whole color filled layer and I just use a couple of layer with 20% and 30% opacity (solid pink) to throw some simple shadows, lights. For backgrounds I do the same, no lineart, just a couple of layers below throwing simple hard shadows to give a "hint" of the environment, a door, a wall, a window, a cell, a bed, or maybe just a blank space is enough. Lastly I paste some onomatopoeia text that I use all the time, text balloons and that's it.
People are right to call it shit, but it's the only way to do it. I'm not the only one doing this lame lightspeed-fast "webcomic" process, many such cases out there, but I don't monetize this at all, this is just some fun shit post xD

It's also kind of hard to tell where the chin/neck divide is, the soft shading is too vague. The head should be larger as well, the forehead/upper head is too small compared to the face.

Peach's eyes are much bigger than this; even heavy-lidded like in this image, they'd occupy a huge portion of the face and the iris + pupil would be clearly visible. The mouth should also be more in line with the nose. Facial proportions in general are hugely important. Also, just as a side nitpick, the hand on the hip isn't really grabbing or resting realistically, it just looks pasted-on. Nice work on the stomach and nipples though.

oh yeah, that looks way more like her, i kina went off with the eyes since i wanted to lean into expressiveness rather than being on model, though missing her bimbo lips definetely wasnt a good trade off on my part..
>the hand on the hip isn't really grabbing or resting realistically
Yeah but thats the best i could do, that's notoriously difficult to draw, so untill i figure out a better way to do it it has to be like that

Crab in the bucket mentality. Nodraw permabeg schizophrenics who lose their minds whenever they see someone posting a drawing that looks so much as marginally good. Essentially an extra layer of jealousy because they try to actively bring others down with them and spam threads with their endless bitching.

tempted to get on the ipad procreate lifestyle, idk. I've already got a screenless tablet and I'm comfortable enough with photoshop, but maybe it'll ignite some kind of spark
at the very least it might be nicer to draw from references since I'm not having to share screen real estate with the space I draw, all on a single screen. procreate brushes seem nice as hell too

Speaking as someone who has tried to draw on an iPad with the Apple pencil, a display tablet, and is also currently using a screenless intuos 3 L, the screenless tablets are the best. I like drawing on my iPad, and procreate brushes are decent, but I prefer not having to crane my neck down to see my screen while I draw.

The point of both construction and reference is to put things in the right places. Both are important, but I'd suggest drawing from reference, and the next time you do, look reeeeeally closely at where you're putting things. Look at the dimensions I've put in blue: the spacing between the eyes, the position of the mouth. Make sure these features are the same distance away from each other as the reference, AND centered within the face.
>>

You're great at accentuating the solid forms and the roundness of the body parts. It helps to avoid chicken-scratch: making lots of lines when you can use a single line to outline the shape in a cleaner way.

Did any specific courses help you learn?
Did you make copies of photos, 3d renders, other paintings? If yes did you try to match the color exactly by eye?
Do you fuck around with color sliders after painting or do you do pure paint?
Do you pain in layers? Do you paint on the exact same layer as sketch?

Hmm, okay I see, it's hard with the ratios and distances for me because I'm so used to analysing human faces and not anime faces, I understand human facial features, ratios, measurements and all the small details of the face but with anime(particularly Kubo's style) it's kind of difficult to put that into practice(for now) as it's basically alien, Kubo's side profiles do resemble actual Caucasoid skulls(males at least) but with much less detail

OK, but it will be unhelpful.

- I watch and try a lot of things but I'm very chill about this whole endeavor. Not Olympic drills
I can't point to any names other than Marco, I can't say he affected me much except that I try to spread more colors everywhere because of him. But most of his lectures are cool. Boro was somewhat cool but hard to recommend. I watched everything interesting I do not know what helps to learn
- Not until recently, I rarely do it and if I paint, it's very loosely. I recognize the probable benefits, but it's kind of uninteresting. Loose paint is a bit more exciting then measurements and I guess the colors when I do it( But if I want to see what color it is, I can just pick and look).

-Usually, and not only after, but during the process, depending on what I'm doing.

-Usually, I use multiply stacks and even if it's just normal I constantly add new layers and draw on top. what I don't do is I don't separate things into 120 objects because it's too clumsy. If I do, it's usually just the figure and the rest.

>do you do pure
>did you try to match the color exactly
>paint on the exact same layer
You kind give the impression of categories of a stick strict and restrict. I'm more about interesting/not interesting
