I tried drawing another crow, I love corvids. I'm referencing (hopefully not stealing, I don't know what the actual rules about that are) the artstyle from Root, a game of woodland might and right; but I adore how they draw the corvid faction and kinda want to use something like that artstyle.
Hopefully this one is better, I like how it turned out; and it was the first drawing where I didn't have an exact reference for a pose.
Also I drew it once but the right hand was reversed and I noticed just as I was about to upload lmao. Hands are incredibly hard to draw, especially when I'm trying to make pseudo bird claw/wing hands.

I combined everything beside the background into a new layer and Gaussy blur it by 15-20%, then soft erase the face and boobies. Hope that helps
>>
>>7846939
fringe is going above the bang in one side and above it in the other, the neckbones or the boobs are misplaced and i can't really tell which one cause the noise is giving me cancer, the lips are slightly wrong , finish the left arm it looks like it's melted to the body. The jaw is located belowish and in-frontish of the ear lobule, attaching it to the ear makes the cheek look sharp but who knows people actually draw like that. Boob shading makes it look like a cleavage but the arms are a bit too the side for that to happen.

Body/legs are messed up but you retained a lot of the cuteness in the head which is a lot harder to get right. The saw tooth shape of the teeth are very cartoony, try to find a better simplification that doesn't follow a uniform pattern if you want something closer to the reference. Keep it up.
>>7846989
Most of her right calf and her whole right foot wouldn't be visible in this perspective. Looks more or less fine, just add an indication of her calf as her leg disappears behind her. I think you're missing some lines for her right arm, it looks like it disappears in between her torso and the bear. The bow knot being on the back of the teddy bear seems unusual imho.

Might be worth playing with different fur or skin tones using corrections layers or something. Seems like you stayed in a narrow hue range for the entire piece except the eyes which is blending everything together. I think this is a matter of preference though and might be unavoidable if her colors are normally broken up by whatever clothing she wears; the forms are clear either way. Other than that I think what the russian said would also help to provide more focus to the face. A more vibrant green for the iris and whiter whites of the eyes might also help.
Draw her nipples.

Full of soul, keep drawing anon

For advice I can tell you to measure your proportions by placing landmarks before committing, just by eye, you'll naturally get better the more you do it.

But if you're having fun without measuring then keep doing that, don't let it drain the joy.

Other anons are right. Try to block in the drawing, use a grid method until you're comfortable drawing with correct proportions. It doesn't need to be perfect, just more accurate.

the space between the mouth and the nose should be shorter

the eyes should be further apart
and the space between the mouth and the lips will be better if shorter

the facial shape itself also feels like its too wide tro accommodate the eyes and all that

how? look up tutorials on facial balance
and work on that

I decided to retake drawing last year so I decided to create many characters along the way. She is Marchelle, a french and mexicanophile undead witch revived by a secret special forces of witches and, along three other important members, she ventures around the world to solve mysteries. I wanted to play with details like her frontal patch like scar and arteries to make her look undead.

A lot of it comes down to experience and muscle memory, and the other parts depend on how you a drawing, but you can try ghosting. Ghosting your ghosts.

Careful with the eye shape. The eyes communicate a ton of information about a character, from their current emotion to their archetype. What I get from looking at yours is that she's either retarded, nervous, or sad.
Be especially careful with that angular style for the eyes, as it might box you into a sameface look if you don't allow yourself to be flexible enough.
>>
>>7847515

Your gestures and expressions are really good.
I think what's holding you back is the drawing is honestly unappealing.
I only know Keathe from his Disney works, I would abandon coloring for now and hyper focus on copying his drawings and learn what makes his work appealing.
You have this weird anatomy in your drawings, if you're going to go the Disney route you should try simplifying the bodies to match the faces. I'd look into chibi expressions as well to make the drawings more cartoony and cute, kind of like Pic related.

I recently found this artist whose work I really like (pic related) but seeing someone draw so carelessly good has me a bit in a dump. Art has never been easy for me and seeing people who can draw manga style with several characters, fun ideas and amazing lineart and ink makes me a bit depressed knowing how unreachable it is for me.
I draw and constantly think how someone this good would have already finished it in a tenth of the time and with exponentially more appeal and quality.
It is as if drawing was as natural as breathing for them.
I want to draw but making nothing but horrible crap that nobody likes over and over and over knowing I will never be half this good shoots down anything I do.
How do you stand being horribly permaprebeg bad at something you really want to do but cant progress at?
I want to get better as well but I am not getting better with drawing, studying, being with better artists who take me in as the token retard of the group and it is making me feel sad.
Why cant I get better at this?

this is my workflow for the characters ive been making (since the character is essentially just entirely black/silhouette)

Your drawing is flat compared to the ref. Try to think of it as a 3d object by drawing a line down the middle of the face to indicate the form. Draw the nose as a box, the eyes as spheres, etc.

Interesting challenge to be sure. At first I tried doing my usual method of blocking a sillhuete out and building the colors on top but I was not satisfied with the pose and composition to achieve the effect anon was looking for.

Sketch normally and after that went trough the process of blocking using the polygonal lasso tool. I'm not sure about the 3 thirds rule on how to make it work here. But what I did was a simple one point perspective plus some small distortion and used light and shadows to make sure her boobs are really the focal point of the whole drawing. being the brightest and with as much depth I could apply.

Is an "interesting" drawing, I tried giving her a doll lobotomized eyes look because the character but I think I went too far, and I tried going more for browns and red and oranges on this one because her pallet but I think is maybe too warm? plus way more soft shading here to make sure the effect i wanted was visible. So this one is way less blocky and more natural looking. I feel like if I stuck with the first sillhuete it would look more blocky but I don't hate how it looks.

Here is my process.

I mean it comes down to what your goals are. If you want something structured find one thing you're weakest at and spend the day/week practicing just that until you're comfortable with drawing said subject. Then find the next thing you're weakest at and repeat the cycle until you're out of /beg/ /int/.

At the end of the day, they should just keep drawing, whether or not they’re studying or working on a piece. There’s no need to place pressure on what type of drawing they’re doing, as long as they continue to draw. I agree that pieces are integral to your growth as an artist, but studies are too, and if that’s what they want to do right now it’s fine. Anything is better than not drawing

I should draw with just the pencil tool in ms paint more often, it makes it easier for me to break into the mindset of improvement instead of pursuit of perfection. Sure it's ugly, but the importance is not the end result but what I learned from it.
Attempting to train my eye for proportion, inspired by this tutorial. https://monikazagrobelna.com/2020/02/10/drawing-101-how-to-draw-proportions/
I was able to get the top of the apple alright, and I drew the bite mark much better then I thought I would considering I did it mostly free hand. I drew the bottom too square and I completely misshaped the stem, I need to pay more attention. I'll say I did alright for a 20 minute sketch though, I'll have to do this more often for sure.

You are getting good enough at copying without too much measuring but you are defaulting back to your doll-like faces and desu they are really unappealing. You need some serious reprogramming to forget about it and incorporate a cute style.
Also start cleaning up your shit. Your sketches dont have to be ugly and blurry. Have you tried using a hard brush with no pressure?

Try to always draw the major and minor axis when drawing circles and ellipses. It’ll make the process a lot clearer and easier, plus it gives your circles and ellipses a baseline to follow which makes them more accurate

As for the hands there’s too much overlap in the entire hand. Like the whole hand is made up of the palm, and then the fingers. Try to learn the major muscles of the palm / back of the hand to get a better idea how that larger shape is created and *then* attach the fingers. The fingers look good, but they blend with the palm too much

When doing warmp up lines, ellipses and circles can I just use a lined notebook? Or should I just use unlined paper to try and keep my lines straight without a guide?
>>
>>7849421
No. Never ever draw on lined paper (if you have the option not to).

>having the lines already on there

I see what you’re getting at, but to really improve, you need to be the one drawing those lines. If you aren’t good at drawing straight lines, just use a straight edge.

Yes to your last question. Don’t expect to bust out flawless lines each time, but try to find the right balance between wrist and arm movement that can achieve straight lines at varying lengths

Yeah, it's harder. You can use felt stylus nibs for more friction and/or tape paper to your tablet surface to get more friction, so it's more like pencil and paper. Then you just need to get 100+ hours of practice so things become natural feeling. Try a little bit of stroke smoothing (aka stabilization) too.
Krita is pretty good these days, more than enough for now.

Hello, this is Horse Bones Anon. Back from a very long hiatus. Tried to get some rib cages in; my forms feel very flat. Especially my first attempt at the rib cage. I studied a little bit of Tom Fox on the side to understand how his forms look better. After, I tried a different angle. Drawing from a different perspective with imagination isn't as daunting anymore, but my forms still feel foreign and flat.
>>
>>7849634
Taking a look back, I think my line work is disastrous, making this seem flatter than it should be. It's way too messy to serve as a study. I will try to clean it up next study. There's also a lack of focus(?). I think I need to get more used to drawing the bigger picture, rather than trying to get the "smaller individual" picture right.

>>7849519
Your frogs are beautiful. I can always feel the volume of each shape. I hope I can one day convey the same form as you.

Not completely happy with either renditions - giving her more caucasoid features just flat out doesn't fucking work, but her Asian Iteration feels like too radical a departure from her previous iteration.

The brown character's evolution I'm perfectly happy with however. That was inspired by a graphic novel model rather than an IRL person - maybe I should lean more into that for the white haired character.

>>

Learning to draw is mostly two things:
Training your eyes (seeing proportion, angles, value, edges)
Training your hands (making clean, confident marks that match what you see/plan)
If you build a routine that hits both every week, you’ll improve fast.
The core loop (works for any style)
Observe Simplify Construct Check Correct
Observe: measure angles, negative shapes, big value masses.
Simplify: reduce to big shapes (blob, box, cylinder)
Construct: build forms in 3D (planes, cross-contours).
Check: compare against reference (plumb lines, relative lengths).
Correct: redraw the same thing once or twice. The second pass is where growth happens.

What to practice (the “skill tree”)
1) Line + shapes (control)
Goal: your lines go where you intend.
Ghost your stroke (hover commit).
Do pages of: straight lines, ellipses in boxes, curves, simple shapes.
2) Forms in 3D (the real foundation)
Goal: you can rotate boxes/cylinders mentally.
Boxes in perspective (lots).
Cylinders through boxes.
Simple “toy” objects (mug, shoe, stapler) built from primitives.
3) Perspective (so things don’t look “off”)
Goal: believable space.
1-point room corners, then 2-point boxes, then inclined planes.
Draw from life: your desk setup, hallway, chair.
4) Value (makes drawings look real)
Goal: light reads clearly.
Do small grayscale studies (5 values max).
Practice cast shadows and turning form (sphere/cylinder/box).
5) Gesture + anatomy (if you like people/characters)
Goal: movement + proportion.
30–90s gestures (lots), then 5–10 min “structure” passes.
Learn big landmarks first (ribcage, pelvis, spine, knees/elbows).
6) Composition + design (if you want concept art)

>>7849997
This is also a point. Just my conjecture since I'm a beg myself, but I personally believe it's worth to have /int/ and even /pro/ posting in here gradually, to serve both as a reference and as a guidance. After all, if anons in here spend their entire day looking at this thread and all that's in here are shitty drawings like mine, there would never have any improvement merely because of the lack of refs to compare with.

The content of amputees running for energy while guarded by police officers. It's made worse by the way Peril draws ugly deformed torsos and butts and perspective. Even if this was drawn as good as HJL's stuff, I'd still be disgusted by it. Vile concept, wat too much text, and too poorly drawn to ever be enjoyable.
>>
>>7850081
>what do you by forms
I mean your work is always kind of flat. I've seen similar anthro artists who go for a deliberate flat style, but judging by how you drew the sleeve and chest I'm assuming it's not intentional. Subtle things like how the eye, bottom of the skirt, shirt buttons, and collar are drawn without proper deformation. Other things like the far hand and wrist phasing into the book and the contour making a tangent with the book and fingers. These things tells me you still don't really have an understanding of drawing forms in perspective, like you did with another character sitting on a chair.
>>
>>7850102
oke yea, im just starting on perspective so hopefully ill improve on that
>>
>>7850088
>Peril draws ugly deformed torsos and butts
I think those butts he drew in that first panel are really really nice actually, and the figure in the last panel is god-tier. He seems to be all over the place style-wise. Maybe he's trying to too fast for his own good.

Screen tablets cost more and also have an especially weird texture when drawing. Really hated the feeling though you can kind of fix it by buying a paper textured screen protector. Lastly you might end up sitting like a fucking shrimp unless you specifically have something to hold the tablet off the table properly
>>
>>7850189
Pros often end up using Screenless for convenience and comfort. Their skill level allows them to make any difference between Screen or screenles just meaningless. They have enough line confidence and dexterity to allow themselves that luxury of ditching the hassle and lack of comfort from big screen tablets.

I can personally vouch for screenless tablets but I think I've been using small ones for nearly 2 decades. Don't quote me on that though; I was a moronic tween when I got my first one, but it was definitely in the early 2000's. Posture's great, never had wrist pain, and modern tablets don't chew through nibs like they used to. Started with something before the Bamboo, but that was my baby back in the day.

"Bitch tax" is a cope; I only hear complaints about screen tablet users, mainly their posture and pain. "Shrimp tax" is more accurate.

>>
Is drawing worth it?
>>
>>7850263
I can't speak on this. I have midget hands so the smallest, cheapest option worked for me and has worked for me for 8 years so far. Definitely browse around and leave the house to maybe test a few in the wild at tech stores assuming you live in the west.
>>7850271
If you haven't started just use AI or something idk
>>
>>7850207
That's not what I really asked for, but gj
>>
>>7850263
>decent/budget screenless option
That's the advantage of screenless, you don't need to settle for "budget" ones. Get a good one, a Wacom intuos medium sized is perfect. A top brand, an excellent product that will last you forever if you take care of it. Everything is going up in price, those ones are now around 130U$D. You can get cheaper ones from other brands too. But if you can get one of those wacoms you will be doing a good purchase for sure. Be aware that the learning curve depending in the user can be a little bit challenging, but everyone gets used to it.
>>
No, "just draw" is incomplete and often misleading advice for beginners. While drawing a lot is essential, it is only effective when paired with specific learning and intentional practice.

Think of it like learning a language: speaking practice ("just talk") is vital, but without learning vocabulary and grammar, you'll quickly plateau.

Hardware is less important than talent. I have seen chinese rendergods use shitty knockoff wacoms.

where do I buy talent?
>>
>>7850379
You can't buy it, only earn it.

Anyone getting a screen tablet should be getting a flex arm attachment for it. Posture is literally a non-issue.
>>
>>7850447
Reading this should also explain that if someone is working on a budget, ESPECIALLY a /beg/, they would have to buy attachments and gloves and stupid shit when you can just buy a screenless tablet, set it on the desk, and fucking draw.
>>
>>7850451
We already know screenless is for poorfags. But the claim that screens give bad posture is literally a non-issue.
>>
Dumb question, but... how do I actually draw a specific piece of clothing on a specific body type without a better reference? Do I just have to wing it basically?
>>
>>7850462
learn how folds and wrinkles work, they're basically like... tubes
Or you can just paint triangles and rhombuses for the shadows, that's the usual shape

>>7850454
Try to spend 16 hours drawing with your arm raised up on a screen (No matter how perfectly angled it is with that mount arm), and come back again with that smug beg opinion.
There's a reason why screenless tablets are still in use in every desk of animation studios. You need your arm at rest on that flat surface to work those many hours every single day. Fancy screen tablets are for fancy particular tasks.

Draw yourself cutie
>>
>>7850485
Yes!
I'd rather wait than someone half-assing it, though I have an image to share that can't get through the image limit.
>>
>>7850471
Beglet, I've drawn plenty 8 hours sessions and have no issues with using a screen. Do you even know what a flex arm is?
>>
>>7850491
You can post it in whatever other thread you want, and then post the link to that post here.
>>
what does it means if my drawing made it to the op
>>
>>7850508
It means you made it.
>>
>>7850508
i assume it just means that OP liked it, I'm also on there but i doubt i'm anywhere close to "making it" like >>7850511 suggests.
>>
>>7850508
>>7850512
It also means that you have to own your creation, and take accountability for it. You wanted it to share your work, now your piece is on the front store, on the big cover, triggering inner questions in you like "Am I even good to be on the cover?", "I'm not too sure about this"...
Hence the "Humiliation Ritual" name for it.
>>
>>7850508
it means you are a rat
>>
A little bit of both:
>>7850512
>>7850523
OP liking my work or finding it interesting enough to include in the collage is praise enough for any /beg/ - it's "making it" at the tiniest scope.
Sometimes OP is just having fun and makes a cool picture that tells its own story. But even then having ones work used that way feels validating to the fledgling artist
