>>7901310I definitely think you're overthinking it, but that's normal I guess.But if you want some nitpicks then maybe the mouth is a little long and drooping down like he's pinched and pulled there by the bottom of his cheek/jowls and just the basic 3-dimensionality of the overall head shape is a little flat maybe, but it's a tricky view to get that right on without drawing in all the planes of the head first and figuring out the perspective.The detailing is the most interesting part of your take on it to me, the way you captured that shining lock of white hair on the side, the texture of the lapel, the trees outside the window.

>>7901628If I squint and look at your picture back and forth with the photo I see you broke up the values where unification may have helped more.For example:The head and the hair are almost the same value, you made the hair darker. Also, the head is a little bit darker on top and more lighter on the front. You simply made the entire face one light value, you didn't actually look at the shapes.Second, the jacket, why is it so damn light in yours?Also, regarding the head and the background, the head is quite a bit darker in value and the background a fair bit lighter, in your drawing they are much closer in value.Squint again, look back and forth between your drawing and the photo, the differences should unveil themselves automatically.

The irony is that I actually brought my highlights closer to my midtones because I wanted to play around that area but looking at it now with fresh eyes it just ended up choking the value range. Also thanks on the framing compliment, just felt better for the compositional balance. I appreciate the crits

>>7902245That's good for 2 hours.You got a nice feeling in the expression, it's pretty close.>>7902277I like the atmosphere you got with the background, but you did a much better job on the clothes.They're kinda clashing with the face.In contrast with how cleanly stated and rendered the coat is it makes those shapes pop but makes the face feel much fuzzier next to it because it's so much simpler with just a few dabbed on uncertain brushstrokes for the features/edges that don't read as any clear shape.
Fucked up the nose and that threw everything else off.
i rarely ever draw old people or birds so it was fun
i mostly draw anime girls so i had a hard time trying to make him actually look his age. done in 30 mins or so
