I wonder how people even start at this pre/beg/ level.
Surely they lived long enough to comprehend basic anatomy ... I am not expecting good 3d shapes, ofc
But surely you know that an arm does not have 2 ellbow joints.

How old are you?

Looks like I was right. A lot of your faces look a bit wide and wonky in the jaw and head structure. On the bottom left the girl crossing her arms looks flat and awkward and I would personally change it so it reads a bit better. The top middle girl with her hand on the table has a weird transition from her wrist to hand and overall looks a bit too large from this angle.

Whoever made this guy the OP, I hope your intentions were good because you're just inviting crabs to shit on this guy or seethe with jealousy/insecurity. I think to anybody that this painting is making feel insecure, you should ask yourself why it is that you feel insecure. Recognize that this board is a crab bucket. You're used to seeing mediocrity. When someone who is clearly skilled ventures onto here, your reaction is to attack, is it perhaps because you've grown used to feel superior among the mediocre? This is your wake up call. There's always a bigger fish, this board can breed complacency and stagnate your growth. Let the painting and skill inspire you rather than make you anger.

i already told more then enough last thread about how much i resent effort and skill, and like crudeness, so, here, a drawing and a question:
what style would be the best to adopt in the future? i think anime-like-drawings aren't useful to draw, but i am already pretty familiar with them. Comics/stickmen are always easy, though still "bad-looking" unless i add new things that make it complicated. alternatively, i could dumb it down even more by just drawing the cheapest stickmen and slapping basedjak templates on them/only changing the emotions, to even easier create something, OR, if i want to be crude, i could start being abstract and stop drawing entirely, instead just using shapes like triangles as abbreviations for persons being there. got any other ideas what would work?
the goal is to have an optimal "quality-for-effort" ratio with a low "required-learning" ratio (the less effort required the better)
i dont have much experience in drawing sketches/comics/other things, so some of you probably have more knowledge!

Often anon speculate whether talent is real and if it is, how much it matters. While it is still much debated one thing is true: anti-talent exists. People so bad they cannot escape pre/beg/ status.

Why is that so? It can be extreme mental illness or a brain dysfunction like autism - but generally it's low IQ. Low IQ is the key to completely unskillful drawing.

I look at your work and I know you are too stupid to ever improve. This is also why I doubt that you have made it in other areas. While difficulty differs, to really make it, one always needs intelligence.

Delusion is a big factor in not improving. So it's a double whammy right here.
>>
>>7921097
>insult insult insult
i repeat. you should go back, and start becoming good.
>>
>>7921099
It's not me, so you didn't repeat it. You'll encounter many such responses and they won't be by one or two people.

Yes it is insulting, but packaging it into kindness would be very difficult. How else to tell someone that he is too retarded to ever get good? I'm just afraid that this sparks a defiance in you, so you start drawing to prove us all wrong. But it'll be a folly. You will spends hundreds of hours and still draw worse than someone with a healthy brain who drew seriously for a week.

Is the person who feeds the delusion really the better person than the one who can see plain as light that you will ngmi?

Where outside of drawing do you believe yourself to have made it?
>>
>>7921097
>Low IQ is the key to completely unskillful drawing.
Unironically this. Talent is just how well you can absorb knowledge. If you're retarded you're just fucked.
>>
>>7921083
that leg is all fucked up
>>
>>7921097
>Low IQ
it's not iq, some of the dumbest people ever are mogging everyone in this thread. It's talent. I know masochistic self hating faggots like to think it's IQ because then it feels like there's some logic to it and they're being rightfully punished, but it's just random.
Drawing is just a bunch of dos and donts, like writing music or fighting. It's like a bunch of switches or variables you can tweak. Talented people just naturally do it the correct way instead of doing in the wrong way. People without talent can figure it out through gruesome trial and error but IQ won't help you much past the the point of figuring out it's about trial and error.
>>
>>7921110
You can learn to learn better over time talent may speed up starting but you can earn talent faster by leaning how to learn.

Tried to “draw the shapes of the shadows and use them as guides” as per the advice I got last thread. Think it helped a fair bit. Looking it over it seems the weakest bit is the shape and size of the shoulders, which of course is also where there was the least shadow to use as visual guide. I also see what you meant about low shadow/overlighted references being garbage for learning.

Solid attempt, shits hard. Drawing with pens is what freed me from my perfectionism. It made me have to see and accept my mistakes and actually try and improve.

>ultimately decide that if my dreams are to be realized, I must learn to draw from scratch
>I mean, how hard can it be
For /beg/'s amusement, I present: an attempt.

Is there a way to get line weight while mouse drawing? I did a bit of pencil drawings in the past, and while I never advanced further than bad drawings of rocks, I liked the element of adding line weight to stuff. I know with tablets a lot of software will read the pen pressure to change the brush size to get a similar effect, but I don't know if there's a way to emulate this while drawing on a mouse.

I haven't actually tried these beyond basic testing but all these variables will work with a mouse in Krita, I assume other apps have similar dynamics options. Other than that I'm not sure what you'd have in mind, maybe there's a plugin to do something weird with the mouse wheel but that sounds awkward to me.

You know how when you're in a car and the car accelerates, it feels like you're being pushed backwards? Maybe time is like that. We feel that we are moving 'forward' in time, because in truth, we are accelerating 'backwards'. And memories are the extension of our senses forward through time, becoming hazier and less precise in the same manner that sight or hearing become less accurate over greater distances.

i wrote i will think about how to phrase it, but one time, here, a smaller part of my thoughts:
anime replaces realism with style. things like "head" and other parts are not drawn correctly. BUT YOU INSTEAD HAVE TO DRAW THEM IN ANIME STYLE.
this is wasteful. if you remove some correct thing, dont replace it with more hidden rules or work. replace it with the cheapest/easiest/a good option, not those "anime styles" that are wasteful, if you compare them to stickmen or other simpler styles. I mean, you dont show reality anyways by drawing stylyzed images, so better not show anything rather then this useless style that takes so much effort to upkeep

At the moment it is just something I do as a hobby/autistic obsession. Maybe some day I might do something more with it but I don't have much concrete plans for it besides just fleshing out the setting and worldbuilding for it's own sake. I've dabbled in some 3d modelling as well to depict stuff from the setting but that's about the closest I've actually come to any actual game making. The most feasible avenue for me to actually utilize the setting is propably in comic format but I am not that confident in my own storytelling skills which is why I have not really went there yet.

I lost my four closest friends over some fucked up shit that happened over the last 10 months, that left me traumatized n feeling like I can't trust anyone else, or find someone that understands me as much as some of them did, ever again. It still hurts and I'll probably never get closure for most if not all of it, let alone get to reconnect with my closest friend who I'd known for 13 years.

I dropped art n mostly anything else for over five years to git gud at software dev, and find a full time job to finance my life with. Kind of afraid to pick up pencil & paper and try again, cause when I last drew my mind would torment me whenever I did. But now, I don't know what else there is for me to do. I still liked to draw & paint, n had learned a fair bit in the years prior.

Is it time for me to get back into art, now that I don't really have something or someone to live for? I don't wanna just sit and suffer without doing anything besides work and waste time when I'm not at work.

>>
>>7921488

>>
>>7921375
alright, here's the full explanation:
i watched 1000s of anime. I read 1000s of mangas (at least their beginning). I even looked through alternative comics and such. What did i find? A lot of things i got upset- most importiantly, that the story/content WAS SHIT. EVERYTHING IS SHIT. ONE PIECE, ONE PUNCH MAN AND ALMOST ALL POPULAR THINGS, EVEN BERSERK AND WHATNOT ARE SHIT! I WOULD NEVER GIVE IT MY CHILDREN TO READ, IF I HAD ANY!
Now, to go to the point i am about to make:
I got into the whole thought process partially by trying drawing/mangamaking myself in the past.

It got to the point where i realized: Most manga do not express just what the reader needs. They shit up everything with "fanservice", "style" and "garbage content", and not only that, the artstyle itself is also difficult. I do not draw like the manga artists do, and i thought a lot about what conclusion to make with all of this and more.
I came to the conclusion that, just like the trend started, of "liking bad quality because it often means a reduction in other garbage as well (eg: "i want devs to be paid more to do less"; "there are more examples",) that it would be beneficial to only focus on some story, since, with my idea of a very simple/easy to draw/almost ruleless/unrestricted art-way of creating pages, they can be done very fast!
And this, further fueled by arguments adjacent to the afformentioned trend of praising "bad quality", leads to the theory, that, the importiant content CAN be drawn easily and very quickly. The rest is not importiant. And whatever the rest does- i, while thinking about this for years, still read a lot of manga and so on, see how lacking the content of art is, and how meaningless and distracting from THE ACTUAL STORY I AM SEARCHING FOR it is (literally BLOAT)- it is not worth having advanced art to just make it look better.
I dont want looks.
looks are advertising-
they mean nothing!
And less details can COMPENSATED by being over 3 times as fast!!!

Hello, I am looking to create a set of exercises, drawings, paintings, etc. that can help me evaluate my skill level and identify areas for improvement. For example, I am considering 10 gesture drawings, 5 landscapes, 5 painted heads, 2 character turnaround sheets, expression studies, linework exercises, and others. Should these be done as warm-ups or should I treat them as separate studies? I want to create a list of challenges that will give me a clearer picture of where I stand since I have been drawing for a while for fun but now I want to assess my skills. I also want to figure out which areas I should focus on to improve. Right now, I am thinking of creating a list of exercises for each core aspect of art and defining fundamentals to track my progress. My current idea of it:
Gesture
30s gestures x10
2m gestures x5
5m gestures x5

Perspective & Form
object studies (boxes/cylinders) x2
simple environments x2
object turnarounds x2

Anatomy & Proportion
full‑body figures x3
hands x3
feet x2

Faces & Expression
portrait studies x3
expression sheets x3

Color & Painting
grayscale still lifes x2

The numbers are probably all wrong really for finding skill level but whatever it's a first draft. Also if this sort of thing already exists please lead me to it, and then I'll do it and come back here to post. Furthermore, try keep this medium agnostic, I use digital only as of now, so I can't do physical sculpting, for example.

one more time, more details:
what matters is to see the importiant person. To be able to recognize who is who, who is doing what, who is in what state, and some other details (trees, background, whatever the author wants). This can be done crudely as well. My other image before, with the mangas, also showed what i mean.

oh. finally, an answer, even though small. Because i dont want to create books. I know my stories are vanity, and a book can be great. But a book is harder. Harder then just putting content together with images. Thats what i thought. So, DUE TO MY IDEAS BEING SO USELESS, i try to create it with art. And also to practice my art skills, and to have something ARTFUL to imagine, not just pure imagination from words.

It took at least 4x4 hour slots over 4 days.
It took around 4 hours to rough out a sketch, including time to look for references. I also decided to change the process while I was in the middle of this piece so there was a bit of experimentation as well.

I used sketch, ink/line, then color, but it was just not working for me. It took way too long but most critical issue is that sometimes the inked sketch just looked like dogshit and nothing as good as the sketch. Then when I start to color I'd ran into the same issue when colored work looks like dogshit when compared to the ink.

So I saw how "lalalack" does it and he just draws a sketch, applies a base color and then colors the final run on top of the lines, and if he needs lines to show then he draws the line on top of the color and I decided this was how it should work and it is much better, it means color and ink happens at the same time and if any distortion happens it's easy to fix it together.

I did it again from memory (2 previous attempts were interrupted halfway, and deleted). I can't do better than this. I keep getting that arm wrong in the same way.

Also. Today I studied a bit the arm muscles, and tried to apply later on a reference.
I should've studied the arm bones too, but I went on memory with them.
I recognize I keep placing the deltoid too much above the humerus, now.

>>7920831
You should already see that the arm on the left is broken (or has 2 elbows), while the one on the right is very slim.

Anyway, you are clearly just starting... I don't know what could you help you the most at this stage, maybe the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain"? Although, ignore every "scientific" thing of the book as it is unproven pseudo-science. The excercises are good though.

>>7920921
The frontal one has its charm.
You should fix a bit the hairline on the side drawing. For instance, see the one on top left. You would expect the sideburn being in front of the ear, and then adjust the rest of the hair accordingly.
(search for "sideburns" and observe)

I'm having trouble understanding Vilppu's approach to rendering during quicksketch. He says that he's pretending to go across the surface of the form as he draws it, but I can't seem to recognize why he makes marks where he does. They indicate that the form is turning, but are his marks the corners of the form (where you'd put a construction line if you use box forms) or are they the the surface of a plane?

Here's an example by Vilppu.

Uploaded this for another anon in another thread, but posting it here in case other /beg/anons need it to randomize local references for different studies

https://github.com/flash-computer/CRF

It can choose a random folder to go into further or an image to display at any level, and you can even grayscale or discretize images with it. Also works with PDFs, where it chooses a random page to display (a little finicky because technically it dumps the first available image with pdfimages, rather than rendering the whole page so some pdfs may be broken)

Trick is to challenge yourself, even if that means failing over and over.

Though, getting worse over time would be worse, it's okay to get comfortable, especially if it's their job and you can really just be satisfied at some point, 10 years later be doing the exact same thing just as happy as you were 10 years before.

Something about the composition feels off and flat imo. A lot of the swords silhouette is covered and muddled by the figure, and it leads the eye to look at the tip of the sword that is just -barely- off of the canvas. Also, the left arm of the figure might be resting a little too low
