Reading Drawing Comics the Marvel Way, would it be right to say that the chapter about action wouldn't necessarily apply if the comic was say, about a noir crime mystery?
Like this, some of the static exaggerations are for heroic characters, while PI characters would naturally be more subtle in their poses, right? Would love to see if there's poses otherwise from characters that are more subtle and less heroic

For the past few days I've been in this funk where I feel demoralized and I don't like anything I'm drawing right now. What do you guys do when you feel this way?
Part of my issue is this feeling that even when I go hard and spend literal days on a drawing, it's still completely mogged by a random rough sketch from one of my favorite artists that they probably did in half an hour. I know "comparison is the thief of joy" and what not but it does feel like a punch in the gut when I spend like 20 hours rendering shit only to see a sketch of an anime girl with flat colors, a shadow and a couple highlights with some sketchy black lines on top standing in front of a white background, and thinking to myself "this is literally better than anything I've ever done in my entire life."
(And of course, when I try to do the same thing it just looks like unfinished bullshit.)
>>
>>7996365

Lighting in the water is off, if the white lines are supposed to be glimmering sunlight then it should generally be in a sort of line originating from the sunset, I think. Said glimmer also shouldn't be in the part below the right rock pillar since it casts a shadow. Lighting in general is a bit off, actually, the rocks have highlights in the wrong direction and the highlights on the mountains are facing the wrong way. The roof of one of the houses is brown instead of reddish, not sure if that was intentional but if so it looks out of place. I think the forest would look a little nicer with one more shade of blue, it kind of looks like a blob otherwise. The water should be dyed orange by the sunset, realistically, but I suck with colours so I didn't include it. I like the windmill blades, they look noisy but not out of place, and especially like the rocks, they look natural and it's easy to make out what shape they are.
Take everything I wrote with a grain of salt, I haven't drawn pixel in a very long time and was a beg even back when I used to dabble. Looks really nice and cozy overall, made me open aseprite after ages. And sorry if picrel looks rushed, I kept getting distracted by life and wanted to send this before heading to bed.

The results are ass, but the progress makes me happy. I spent a couple weeks trying to learn to draw back in '22, but lost interest after not feeling much improvement and forcing myself to exclusively draw stuff I didn't care about. Since coming back to drawing, I've felt pretty excited to draw each day. Only time will tell if I keep it up this time, though.

I don't think I'm really symbol drawing anymore. Is it still a good idea to continue drawing by copying for most of my practice, or at this point is it better to move on to studying fundamentals, or something like that?

not it's not. if you paint with black on a multiply layer, it comes out black, if you paint with white, nothing happens. if you choose a vibrant color like bright pink, the result comes out looking like shit. you can't just pick any color to paint shadows on multiply
>But the convention is to go with cool hues
really? I've colorpicked a couple drawings and in all of them the colors in shadow shift towards warmer hues and darker values. or maybe I'm wrong. if the base color is orange, would the warmer hue be yellow or red? red looks hot to me so maybe it's that. but yellow is the color of the sun. on skin the highlighs shift the color towards yellow

I didn't said any combination will look good, but it can be any color depending on situation or material. you have a slider - make whatever doesn't look like shit to you. If nothing salsify you paint every stripe with what you believe look better

>>
>>7997365
I'm a /beg/ so take my advice with a huge grain of salt, but whenever two parts of the body that are the same size (e.g. the shoulders, the legs, the ears?) appear and one is closer, the one that is closer must always appear bigger. It's obvious when you say it, but is a good rule of thumb to keep in mind even without clear lines of perspective.
/int/ and above please correct me on this

>>7997376

>>
>>7997178
There's bony landmarks on the body that can help you see how things are oriented in perspective, like the clavical/sternum for the ribcage or the iliac crest for the hips. There's a bunch of different anatomy books that go over it (Morpho, Weichun, Hampton, Loomis, etc.), pick one that you like and copy the illustrations, then try to apply it to figure studies. You could also follow along with a video or a course if that works for you, just copy what the instructor is doing and then apply it

Only speaking on the one's I've studied, Hampton's Figure Drawing:Design and Invention, Weichun's Human Anatomy for Artist's, and hidechannel's croquis drawing series cover drawing the figure as a whole pretty extensively. Hampton emphasizes gesture, Weichun takes a more technical design approach, and hidechannel is geared specifically towards drawing in the anime/manga style

Actually it makes sense that a big mecha has to get down into a squat position to eject the pilot's pod at a ground level height. That should be standard design for big ground mechas. Either that, or the Vegeta "I kneel" pose to get the head close to the ground if the pilot sits inside the head

“Sketching” just means loosely laying out the initial plan for the drawing. You basically always start with sketching regardless of whether you’re using a reference or not.
Using references whenever possible is perfectly fine, even a good thing, especially when you’re a /beg/ and you want to focus on just one thing at a time, but for most people here the goal is to eventually be able to freely draw from imagination as much as possible. (Even pro artists though still use references a lot)

So what's the biggest difference between a decent /beg/ and a decent-to-good /int/, on a technical level? Or, maybe to formulate the question a little more precisely, if you give an /int/ a /beg/'s drawing and tell them to remaster it, what's the biggest improvement they would make?

You won't regret it. Focus on putting real money on your pocket now.
Art will always be there. You can go back to art whenever you want, it doesn't degrade, what you learn stays always with you. But it won't fix your life now. Art is a personal thing for you, and you need to be in a good place to enjoy it properly, and not in a suffering manner. You need to finance your leisure artistic time, not the other way around.

the process is simple
>you paint a finished piece with all your effort (so you can't cope out with 'it was just a sketch')
>then you reflect on what went wrong the most, and you study/practice to improve that
>then you repeat

I just really like how greasy it looks but yet also sharp somehow.
My art is either always too thin and sharp or muddy and flat.

There used to be eight certified but four of them left /ic/ for greener pastures.

Try doing 1min 10 gestures , 2-3min 15 bodies with boxes, takes less than 1 hour and they help a lot, References are fun until they aren't, you clearly know more anatomy than me but your practice sheet is full of random ass doodles.

What this anon >>7997879 said.
You need to draw a lot more. And fundies are a priority at least until you can scale your confidence up.
>>
>>7997817
>I often get exhausted and take week(s) long breaks and forget how I even made anything to begin with
well there you have it, find a way to get you to draw more frequently even if it means you draw for only a little bit each day.

youre basically in the right area but cheekbones arent super important anyway to map imo. theyre only really important in characters with really pronounced cheekbones.

You should just actually draw the head instead of whatever this is.

>women
It's because trannies are everywhere and this is the only spot online where it's okay to rip into them without social consequences.
>Because it's ok to invade male spaces
Trannies invading women spaces and basically driving most of them out by insisting the have a girlcock will do make women start doing the same to men. Like a slap fight. Though, calling 4chan a "male space" is certainly a choice. Isn't it just the armpit of the internet and always has been? Many women pretend to be men all the time.
>Guy In Real Life
has been thrown at women online many times since the dawn of public-access internet.
