This one was hard. I’d say when it comes to stuff like this just learn what’s necessary to approach the drawing and do the best you can- it doesn’t need to be anatomically perfect, but it at least needs to make sense. This is how I’d approach it

Hi, I'm the retard from the last thread. I decided as a result of repeated moral defeats, I am going to stop trying to make "art" per se and pour my drawing energy into making studies to fine-tune and recalibrate my style completely.
See, 99% of my drawing practice is trying to make original art. That's it. I'll grind out a picture for a few days, and hope it isn't shit. Most of the time it is.
So I'm going to "soft quit" on making art, and use that time instead to do studies of other art.
I've already made a moodboard of art from artists that inspire me, and have already started on making copies of their work.
Essentially, my plan is to completely rebuild my artistic style from the ground up, by making conscious decisions in what I want it to look like. Instead of my current strategy of just sort of letting it emerge by accident.
I'm also going to make it a point to watch tutorials more regularly than I do. Like I watch art tutorials once and a while, but now I'm going to make sure I'm at least watching a few a week, or reading from the artbooks I have downloaded.
---
Before anyone says, "yeah, you're planning this, but will you actually do it?" My answer to that is I already draw for 3 to 4 hours a day anyway. It's not that I have a problem finding motivation to draw or finding time to do it.
I just need to recalibrate how I use that time more efficiently.
It's not like I'm saying "I need to draw 4 hours a day instead of half an hour every other day." That would be a far bigger leap.
Either way, it will take discipline. But if I slip up and draw shit again, I know you guys will hold my feet to the fire. You guys always keep it honest and keep it real with me, and even if it hurts sometimes, I appreciate it because I know I NEED to hear it.

First time posting here (: i tried to find the beginner thread for ages and finally, i did

while i'm technically not a beginner since i drew all my life, my level mostly stagnated as i din't train seriously enough. I recently (2 month ago) learned anatomy and perspective more seriously .
The first and fourth drawings are drawings made 2 years ago, and the other two are redrawn versions made 2 weeks ago

You are a beginner but that's ok. Abandon the box and cylinders you're using, it's not doing you any favors, and jump between short gestures and 10 minute figure drawing sessions. Use long confident lines, no short strokes.
>>
>>8070196
ohnonono aren't brazilkeks supposed to be innately talented??
>>
>>8070112
You have the art equivalent of ranked anxiety.
You're too obsessed with winning on your first try. That's why you watched 1000 videos, that's why you practiced lines a thousand times.
And when you didn't succeed on your first attempt, you saw that as a failure and went back to practicing lines and watching videos, getting nowhere.
You need to fail as practice. You need to try to draw something you can't, and suck ass, over and over and over again.
You learn from failing, you learn from mistakes, and art gives you infinite attempts to fuck up and retry. Stop practicing and preparing like art is hardcore one life only.
Stop procrastinating pussy. Queue up ranked, go 0/10, get flamed, feel retarded, and queue up again. That's how you improve.
When you feel like you're doing everything right yet the outcome still sucks, that's when you watch guides and videos. You compare what they're doing to what you've been doing, and learn from that.

>>
>>8070249
Well anon, it depends on what you're trying to achieve. The AI will carry over the flaws in your sketch: the muscle imbalance around the shoulders and neck, the floaty figure, the unnecessary detail in the pants, and the tangents in the hair. If you like the way AI renders your sketches, then improving the sketch itself is probably the most productive thing you can do.

The downside is twofold. First, the less you draw yourself, the harder it becomes to develop an eye for the little things that make a drawing work. Second, AI isn't deterministic, so you won't get the same result every time, even with the same input.

Just consider the pose and apply it to whatever topic you are interested in, you like porn? Draw a dick getting in, you like comics? Draw a character in that pose, you like ....landscapes? I guess you can use the shape of the figure to draw a background of some kind, it doesnt have to be the figure with everything it comes with, just pick the pose and thats it, maybe you just like the face, then draw the face.

You need to work on pretty much every fundamental and make a lot of drawings to get a ton of experience. Perspective and anatomy in particular need focus.

Having said that you do have a kind of endearing style and a nice sense of composition for a beginner. The thing that you do best is visual narrative.
All of these have an specific thing happening and a mood. You convey these things very well for the stage of the drawing process that you're in right now and I'd say you kind of show a talent for that particular aspect of drawing. Whenever you wanna challenge yourself and grow I advice you to make studies of Bridgman or any other such anatomy virtuoso and to do basic drawabox exercises. Whenever that shit gets stressing and wanna take refuge in your comfort zone (not a thing to be ashamed of, it happens) just draw mikus doing silly things or any other thing that tells a little story. You're effortlessly good at that.

Any advice on how to improve my values? I have kind of an idea on how to improve my composition skills (just use composition schemes and concepts as often as possible until I start to "get it") but values are a thing I just dont get and that I dont even get how to practice. I understand it has something to do with tridimentional thinking though (therefore I'm likely weak in that area too) anyway what did you do to gitgud at values? That drawing is stylish as fuck btw.

went pretty experimental with this one. Shouldve made another layer for actually doing lineart; its just been so long since I've done that I forgot. I don't even know how to make anything clean anymore, in my pursuit of drawing from imagination, I've neglected the most important aspect of art: appeal.

Actually no. Im certain this couldve been saved even without that. I got the shoulders/neck, arms, and the waist completely wrong. My biggest problem with this one was going for the details too early. Granted I didn't spend too long on this, so its no big deal. I wash my hands of it.

You'll get there, you need to work hard. It takes more than a year to get towards a level like that, I wouldn't be impressed at his progress, Hes been drawing for much longer than people are claiming.
And its easy to tell he's not the level he wants people to think he is, He has incredibly scratchy lines, the gesture of the figure is stiff, he traced it from a 3d model, the hand is horrible, and see how the other hand is hidden (avoiding drawing hands is a sign of a low quality and beginner artist). And notice how the background sketch drops in quality compared to the figure since it wasn't traced.
Its nothing impressive.

I'm not even sure why anon hypes him up that much, when he's still very much figuring out his craft.
Mega drawing anime muscle girls is a very specific niche that not a lot of people are drawing, so it makes him stand out more.
Secondly, just because he's improving now doesn't mean he'll keep improving in the future, because different problems require different types of thinking and complexity. Progress in learning real skills isn't always linear. For example, even the other Brazilian anime foot guy this guy used to glaze hit a wall after a point when he stopped getting feedback as regularly.

I'm not saying this to be demeaning or dismiss anyone here, but I feel like he's just projecting his feelings of the other Brazilian guy onto this one as an excuse to shit on everyone else. Personally I find this strange even though people like Rein and Russia are more experienced and skilled than mega in their respective niches. I wanted to state is just my opinion though, and I felt the need to say this because I feel like the overall quality of discussion here has become much lower of quality and removed from the original spirit they used to have.
>>
>>8071083
We have known for a while that untalented permabegs exist but people refuse to believe it and keep deluding themselves thinking that stagnating begs like raxav, pxg, cheese or trex and prodigies like @Megasch_ have the same potential when we all see the stark difference. Even Megasch_ himself admits that he gets off from the comparisons because he knows just how much more talented he is than the rabble.

You could fill 7 sketchbooks in 1 day if you just scribbled over the pages.
I think what makes great artists great is that they always push themselves to get better. They always learn new things and finish bigger drawings. They just have great work ethic.

No but there are secret brain functions. Some people just have the right brain to be good artists. They are so talented that they already can draw at a professional level during highschool. It's not somethign you can learn. They just have a better feel for forms and perspective and anatomy.

:(

You're right though, especially about the Russian and French friends. Both are significantly more experienced and overall better than me (and I would really like to get in touch with both so we can learn together) and yet they receive comparatively little attention. I think it's important to point this out in this situation because the focus on me is really just a facade by one or two people and I don't want anyone to get discouraged or annoyed because of them. Anyway I suck at talking so just don't pay them any attention.

Also, does anybody remember that one guy that used to draw in pink/magenta? By far the best artist I've seen here. Would really like to have him back.

Been doing this KyuYong Eom study today and yesterday, to focus on character drawing/rendering. I'll call it here so I can work on other stuff now.
I did better than I thought I would honestly, but it's obviously far from perfect.
I have no clue how he got some of the textures (like on the pants) and skin tones exactly like he did.

>with art, it's always misery. fuck it
If you get good enough with art then you can create your own visions with it.
With videogames you are always just playing the vision of other people.

Art can be fun. You just need patience and willpower for it.
I personally don't even care about modern games. To me videogames kind of died when arcades died and americans took over.

>i dont do just scribbles but i dont know how to get better fast or the next big steps
It depends on what your goal is. Do you want to be good at drawing from imagination? Then you have to learn a lot of anatomy. That's the most crucial part. Draw a lot from references to build a visual library. Brainstorm what you would like to draw and then simply draw it. I recommend copying with a brush pen. It's less tedious and more fun than precise pencil drawings and you still learn the basic shapes with it.

It's a figure drawing issue. The drawing in of itself isn't good looking because the figure is beginner looking. Not an insult, but an observation, best advice is to literally keep drawing, and add gestures and long timed figure croquis to your daily routine. After six to twelve months of nonstop hourly drawing per day, pick up literally any anatomy book and add a session of muscles, its insertions to the bone placement and form to your daily routine.
