I find the ones with the black guy to be the most egregious.It's understandable that these people are impressed - people appreciate it when you put effort into speaking their language, who knew - but there's a weird fetishistic nature to it. I've applied for language programmes in Japan in the past and have met fellow applicants - 90% of them were obese women with pink hair or jaundiced, skeletal men whose entire perception of Japan is centred around anime and games. The culture shock when they realise that Japan is a country the same as any other with actual real people in it is crippling. It's the same as when Japs suffer mental breakdowns from visiting Paris.
