>>200109686Not really true. The only reason Tokyo wasn't bombed out was because they avoided the palace, the US seemed to be more concerned with Tojo for some reason. Technically the IJN was the frontrunner to replace the Meiji oligarchy, but uh, they didn't really exist anymore after one or two years of naval combat so Tojo took over. The US knew that killing the emperor would basically make any sort of national identity impossible after WW2 because Tojo was in full panic so much so that he kidnapped the emperor and there weren't any oligarchs left.
