I will never acquire highbrow vocabulary in English. How the fuck do I remember the difference in meaning between
>factitious
>fastidious
and
>facetious
These words look so similar
>>
Most native speakers don't know those words either.

I don't care about native speakers of English. I want to be able to read sophisticated books in English without consulting the dictionary every other page
>>

Yeah some native speakers have this desire too. Unironically just play good single player video games and you'll expand your vocabulary. I promise it isn't because you aren't native, most native speakers are fucking retarded

Those words all have very different meanings, spellings, and pronunciations, and contexts in which they're appropriate. They just begin and end in the same way. So I don't know what your problem is.
>>
>>200126342
>unimportant words
who cares?
>>
>>200126342
>I will never acquire highbrow vocabulary in English.
And it's a good thing.
>>

English is really easy I don't see the problem. I learnt it when I was a CHILD lmao
>>

>factitious
fake
starts with "fact" - which is the opposite of something factitious
>fastidious
pedantic
starts with a "fast" - you can fast to not make a mess with your food, which would be quite fastidious of you
>facetious
funny
starts with "face", like your face
this isn't difficult at all you dummy
>>
>facetious
>factitious
Should't you be able to intuit the meaning behind those words pretty easily? I admit I had to look up what fastidious meant.
>>
>>200128280
Surprisingly, factitious means that something is artificial/made
>>
>>200128257
for fastidious, it makes more sense to consider that "tidy" is in the middle of it

English is so simple that even little babies can learn it. Are you stupider than a little baby?

Most EFL speakers don't do this either thoughbeit, it's the same with all languages
>>

I have this problem for my own native tongue. My English is so much more advanced than my Portuguese now it's not even funny anymore, I am losing my own mothertongue.
