The middle class doesn't exist, but yes, Xi leadership has uplifted hundred of million of people out of dire poverty. State capitalism is the current present, and the future.

the problem is that he designed too many carcentric cities. i watch driving/walking videos from around the world and to my surprise i found a shitload of cities in china not just shanghai that are full of 6 lane STROADS. i wish they would design cities centered around WALKING/CYLCLING, not driving. i made a list and every single video here is a different city and there are even more videos and cities but i got tired of timestamping all the 6 lane STROADS. and if you don't know what stroads are, feel free to ask. i'll also explain why they should stop building carcentric cities if you want

Communism isn't a push of button, it has to go through the different stages of historical materialism. It's a process. Even mao didn't believe china achieved communism yet because he believed that they were in the preliminary stage of socialism. That's because the economic base needs be advance enough (ie the horizon of AI and automation) to determine the superstructure. In other words, the productive forces has to be advanced enough to create the material conditions necessary for a higher stage of socialism. the 1980s they were still a technologically backwards agrarian society and both Deng and Mao recognized that Marx's idea of socialism is not the same as socialized poverty, the goal was always to advance the productive forces to change the economic base. This is fully in line with marx, as Marx said socialism could only come out of an advance society.

In the 1980s, Deng never liberalized the superstructure either. He kept the leninist party structure intact. He didn't liberalize Mao's land reform. Market liberalization was introduced very gradually and Deng used SEZs with strict legal and regulatory frameworks for foreign investors. Even today, almost of all the largest twenty companies in mainland China are all state-owned. The most critical sectors are monopolized by the state like banking, oil, telecoms, steel, rail, forestry, utilities, mining, ocean shipping, heavy machinery, ship building, etc.
