Literally every single issue east asia faces today is because they chose Confucianism over Daoism
>>
>>204023108
Could you at least explain both of them
>>
>>204023108
>>
>>204023148
Confucianism is about hierarchy and structure in society. You must lick the boot of your boss who must lick the boot of the tax man who must lick the boot of the emperor. If you stop licking boot you are a bad person.

Daoism rejects a strictly hierarchal way of thinking about society and promotes individualism and against sweeping and reckless governmental/societal action on the individual.

>>204023108
This but unironically
>>204023148
Confucianism:
>Hierarchy is the most important thing in the world
>It is a leader's responsibility to be benevolent to ensure the welfare of his family / subordinates
>Each person must fulfil his/her role in the hierarchy
>The five "relationships" are husband-wife, parent-child, siblings, boss-worker and government-citizen and the roles are strictly delineated (I think I got the 5 right?)

Taoism:
>You are water in a river. Adapt and go with the flow
>Kind of like stoicism (not too sure)
>>
>>204023108
We love Daoism, but emperors choosed Confucianism to rlue.
>>
HOLY FUCK DID A PEASANT JUST WANT TO BECOME A NOBLE?

SOCIETY IS COLLAPSING

>That time the Xin emperor literally half of China due to Confucianism

It's really that simple
>>

Btw, the difference between Confucianism and Legalism (fajia) is Confucians think human welfare is maximised if they fulfil their roles as much as possible, while Legalists think that humans cannot be trusted to fulfil their roles and need the state to force them to.

But regardless of justification, both ends up with a retarded hierarchy.

It's not really possible to assign a percentage-of-adherents figure to syncretic eastern philosophies like you can for religions in the Abrahamic sense.

>confucianism
northern drylands
>taoism
rich nature of the south
>>
>>204023397
Sadly in China the north controls the south.
>>
>>204023408
this.
>>
>>204023397
Lao Zi was from near Shangqiu in Henan THOUGH.
Which is not far from the Confucian academy in Qufu, Shandong.

Also, neo-Confucianism was born in Jiangxi, and flourished in Hunan...

Southern China wasn't Chinese until its conquests and assimilation of it's ethnic groups by the Qin and Han which was long after the sages lived.
>>
>>204023408
There's a saying that investment doesn't go beyond the Shanhaiguan, but people are now saying it should be revised to the Yangtze river...
The south is much more economically productive especially if you count the Jiangnan as the south. The north has Henan and Dongbei

I thought Korea is Christian? Japanese flag here told me so.
>>
>>204023266
That's nonsense. They exist in the same tradition of thought and aren't some meme opposites. In reality, both are about harmony, and to that end take social hierarchy as a given.
>>
>>204023711
Yeah this, even Legalism and Confucianism are quite similar
>>
>>204023108
Buddhism and Manichaeism was more prevalent than both until Jesuits arrived. They reprocessed Confucianism and made it into a feudal system, there's a book about this called 'Manufacturing Confucianism'. Incidentally after this wave of Neoconfucianism suddenly western pop philosophers like Voltaire were praising Confucianism and pushing for this idea of a secular bureaucracy rather than a clergy, he was also trained by Jesuits and was an enlightenment era media protege. They also did something very similar in some South American colonies. I don't know what China was thinking letting them into their imperial court and letting them sit there for over 200 years. Daoism was largely irrelevant, it was like the Chinese equivalent of Hinduism or voodoo they were finding 'Daoists' even in the Philippines.
>>
>>204023711
he is somewhat right that daoism is more inward looking and often much more concerned with alchemy rather than political philosophy but I guess that’s the reason American like it so much since there there is a huge concentration of amateur chemists and hippies experimenting with psychedelics drugs

>太上、下知有之; 其次、親而譽之;其次、畏之;其次、侮之。
>信不足、焉有不信焉。悠兮、其貴言。功成事遂、百姓皆謂我自然。
The highest supreme, is for the lower to know of it; after this, comes their cherishing and honoring it; after this, their fearing it; and after this their resenting it.
Where its trustworthiness is insufficient, there then is no trust in it. How unclear, how leisurely, is their placing importance on their words! When deeds (not words) are completed, and work is carried to its end, the commoners all say that this is how naturally I have always been.

>大道廢、有仁義;智慧出、有大偽;六親不和、有孝慈;國家昏亂、有忠臣。
When the great Dao decays, there is then benevolence and justice; when wisdom arises, there is then great deception; when the six relations are not in harmony, then there is filial piety and compassion; when the state falls into turmoil, then there are loyal ministers.

>將欲取天下而為之、吾見其不得已。天下神器、不可為也。為者敗之、執者失之。
>故物或行或隨;或歔或吹;或強或羸;或挫或隳。是以聖人去甚、去奢、去泰
Where one would wish to take for himself all under heaven and control it, I see only but his failure to obtain it. The kingdom under heaven is a divine vessel, which may not be governed (through action). He who would govern it will lose it, and he who would grasp it will find it gone.
Therefore do things sometimes act and sometimes follow; exhale sometimes short and sometimes long; sometimes are strong and sometimes weakened; sometimes break and sometimes bring down to ruin. Therefore do sagacious men distance themselves from extremes, distance themselves from grandiosity, distance themselves from complacency.

Mongols washed out most of Confucianism in Yuan and there's hardly any records of it from Song. The Hongwu Emperor who reinstated Chinese rule after the Mongolian Empire collapsed came from an impoverished family, clearly there was class mobility in Ming and the imperialism of Qin, Han, and Confucianism wasn't so prevalent until Wang Yangming brought back Mencius' teaching that the Hongwu Emperor expressly tried to suppress in Chinese scholasticism, he heavily edited and even outright deleted passages which is a big deal considering Mencius is the core of Neo-Confucianism.

nobody care dude.
>>
hello venerable elder, can you provide a martial scripture for this one? this one is stuck in the golden core formation stage and does not have a good qi gathering technique.

>>204024978
That’s unironically would be kino as fuck
>>
>>204023108
