Ok so death is the end of our conciousness, yeah? Of our being you could say, since we cease to exist. So we then become what? Nothing?
But our conciousness came from nothing. Wouldnt that mean it could happen again?

Did the hindus get it right?

consciousness is a field. your individual phenomenology is caused by torsion in the greater panpsyche, like twists in a balloon animal. when you die, the twists are undone and your consciousness floods back to the mass, perhaps in the future for parts of it to be twisted off into someone or something else

>Wouldnt that mean it could happen again?
yeah, because that happens every day
it just wouldn't be the very specific pattern that makes you

There's nothing to happen again because nothing happened in the first place, your subjective experience of consciousness is only the necessary side effect of the process, an illusion if you will

You're proceeding from a false assumption. "You" dont exist. "You" are simply a series of memories of sensory stimuli, there is no you. And holding onto your idea of yourself is like using an illusory hand to grasp at smoke

No. You also don't have 2 consciousnesses if you take one half of your brain and attach it to the other half of someone else's (and again for the leftover halves. Presumably, since I don't think anyone has tried. You'd have the same amount of consciousness (2 consciousnesses), but neither would be the same as before, so they wouldn't be you. But the idea of the thought experiment is that my and your consciousness is really either the same or doesn't exist at all, and the only reason we perceive then as different is the physical separation of the things that cause them (the brains).

You'd just have two yous that will diverge from there on because your experiences will differ. Just like if you were to upload your consciousness to a computer it'd be the same person that you were when you uploaded it, but you would still be stuck in your brain/body

The real question is: why is Hinduism parroting Buddhist doctrines. Even Shinto does this bullshit. They believe kami inhabit the emptiness from which all things are derived from. The western equivalent is the alchemical concept of prima materia, it's basically a chaotic void from which everything comes from.

no obviously death isn't the end of "consciousness", it's the end of the physical, corporeal aspect of our being

the problem most westerners have today is that they're materialists and have lost the ancient way to look at things which was that man was composed of three "parts", spirit, soul and body or pneuma, psyke and soma in greek

since man is a microcosm of creation this means that to each of these "levels" of human reality corresponds a world, so the material world that we're currently experiencing is characterized by sense perception, but it's not the only one and the other aspects of reality are "hidden" to us except in some exceptional circumstances (near death experiences, using psychedelic drugs, certain types of meditation or spiritual practices like the hesychasm for ex)

so when you "die" your physical body disappears but your consciousness remains and what you're now encountering is what certain traditions call the "intermediate" world or the world soul, which is the reality where mental images exist, and that you can associate with heaven and hell

no I'm not schizo and no I won't take my meds, authors like guénon or corbin talk about this in details
