It's an american crop that was farmed in the interior, far from the sugar cane plantations. Also the northeast had less slaves than the rest of Brazil since the Dutch were expelled way back in our history (because our region went broke, so less economic activity = less slaves). I never saw sorvete de milho for sale. Nobody sells that here.
