Thinking about it a second more, I think what I crave is maybe the guidance of a God or religion, having lacked a father figure as the main reason I assume
Usually a group or ideology would be a worthy substitute but I'm allergic to anything that has to do with groups too
I just don't like when I have to adhere to arbitrary rules or standards just because others tell me to or to fit in.
Reason why I also dislike finding self worth in innate abilities or circumstances I was just born with, what's the value of selfworth found in things I had no agency in achieving
I know it's contradictory as on one hand I crave guidance but on the other
I despise it
>>
>>205655216

Perhaps you were born with a talent that could put you in the top0.1% of the population within a given field, it's just that you don't yet know you are talented. If you do manage to find what you are that talented in, you sure as hell can had an agency in achieving it in a sense.
Apparently I could have been really good at drawing and had I not just decided it was for me, maybe I could have also learned to become a good painter. I always thought I did suck at drawing, but I begged my parents to let me attend a one week long drawing course in the summer when I was around 10-11. Turned out, I was pretty good at drawing, I just had no idea how to "force" myself to draw. Now because I didn't practice for a decade, I wouldn't be able to draw anything fr. Also I remember myself being rather good at playing the piano for a beginner (then again, it was only 2-3 lessons at that point), but I couldn't practice so I didn't learn to play the piano in the end.
If I had some balls I'd unironically buy myself electronic piano and learn it as an adult but I'm lazy and postpone everything. Plus, if I really did something productive with my free time, I'd probably learn Greek of Japanese.

kek ironically my job is drawing, I mostly do coom since it's the easiest and most profitable field but I also did some indie videogame concept art, which paid quite well, but I don't care to enter in the industry or become famous tbqh, as long as I can make enough money to live it's good enough for me.
I also would like to learn an instrument since my dad is a musician, but I've always been to lazy to do anything other than mindlessly browsing the internet, it's a miracle I found the will power to practice drawing as much as I did.
And still keeping with the irony, I also tried to learn Japanese, I did decently for about 6 months, but after I finished reading yotsubato I just fell into le depression or whatever you wanna call it again and stopped, it's been two months now
I think the key is consistency daily, however small it may be, cause for example I basically stopped drawing for a year this year and now going back to drawing since I've finished all the money I had made is hellish, I lost all motivation to do anything and lost all confidence and a lot of skill, so never give in to the allure of doing nothing, always do something no matter how small to keep your passion alive.
Thank you for the thoughtful messages

Oh damn, just saw this. I'd love to see your art, anon! Making a living out of art must be complicated as hell. I love making pixel art and would someday love to make a game, but I don't know how to animate things.
And yeah, the key to success is being consistent, even if doing a little bit day by day. A marathon isn't won by running the fastest, but the longest. Some days you'll run slower, some days you'll feel stronger and run faster. But the key is not tiring yourself out and ending up burned out.
If it helps, looking at art inspiration things or designs or playing games that can stimulate your wish to illustrate something helps me a lot. Or listening to music. Music is one of the main things I use to get inspired to write or draw.

Yeah, I completely agree, at least to kick start the brain, having visual cues and references, specifically for the act of drawing st least, is vital I think to find focus and level up your skills, it gives you a standard to aspire to.
Music is vital for general ideas and puts you in specific moods or settings extremely quickly

Hello hello Gironde! Sorry for being absent, I've been kind of depressed, and I've been very busy taking care of the house while my mom was out on a trip.
>Because it's hard to find love and a good mate these days. I have literally 0 issue telling the truth to grandma and I don't care if it makes me a loser.
Absolutely. That's related to why I was so depressed. It doesn't matter how much effort you put into dating if nobody's willing to stay committed or just date in general. My grandma told me "I needed to get dicked", and I was like "...bro I don't date for sex, I don't want to get an STD".
>Yeah that might be a useful thing to have.
Absolutely. It does feel a bit safer dating online rather than dating in person, at least for me. My friends told me everyone in my city is on tinder, and... Eeeeeeh... I wonder if I should try creating a profile on Tinder but... I feel like most people there might just... Date for sex. Or that's what I imagine at least.

I always use references when I need to draw, for example I was using as a reference a yamaha 300 for a fanart I was doing of a game called Yume 2kki. I feel it went quite well, but honestly I just struggle a lot with inspiration and art blocks...

It's normal to not be able to draw when you're depressed, don't feel down cause of that, as I said, consistency is the most important part, no matter how small, even small sketch on a piece of paper daily will help your brain retain the skill and mindset for when you'll not feel as bad, so that you'll be able to pick back up fairly quickly

>Did you ever go to art school or had classes to learn how to draw like that?
No, my big brother draws too, so it was him how inspired me, that really gave a big advantage I feel, having high standards to aspire to is vital to not stagnate in the comfort zone, as I did many a times, since I was always better than my peers i felt content and cocky for many years, but I was just pussying out on the real stuff that required to stop protecting my ego.
I only really started taking it seriously at 27 myself and reached what I would consider a professional level.
As for the tablet yes, I use an old Wacom 24 screen tablet, it would be incredibly cumbersome to work and make decent profits otherwise.
The important thing is goals, set your goals accordingly to what you realistically want to achieve and don't stress it if you don't need to.
If it's a hobby for you there's no need to kick yourself too harshly, it should be a pleasure not a torture.
I'd love to finally finish a product desu but muh depression, chronic cowardice and laziness have been major hurdles.
I just don't have much motivation to live tbqh.
I like to draw horror stuff mostly, sort of more magical lynchian horror stories, mecha inspired and general industrial decay, medieval low fantasy without mega pouldrons or gigs swords, even something like Haxan is something I'd love to do, since it's steeped in the European medieval imagery that is so incredibly over looked.
Medieval stuff tends to be done in the same Hollywood or manga key usually and I don't like that for example, I'd love to make a more grounded medieval low fantasy story, with techniques inspired from fiore de liberi and such.
Very nice drawing btw, unironically, keep up the good work and sorry for my rambling style, fifty paragraph style posting, I hope I've addressed every point

Woah, two artists in the family! That's so cool! My dad as a kid sometimes copied drawings, and loved to see me draw. I like art as a hobby, I don't know if I could be a full-time artist because my motivation comes and goes. I'm good at making logos and graphic design stuff too, I just have an instinct to make things look good.
>it would be incredibly cumbersome to work and make decent profits otherwise.
Can you believe I do all my art on a mouse? LMAO, as insane as it sounds, I've just grown so accostumed to my own pc's mouse's speed and weight, I can use it almost like a wacom pen kek. I love making digital art and traditional art too, although I think my anatomy might not be too good.
>it should be a pleasure not a torture.
Absolutely, if I can't find any pleasure in drawing, I just don't do it. I can't taint something as fun and good for my mental health like art is. I love just rumaging and stalking people's art portfolios on instagram or twitter or even sites like danbooru.
>I just don't have much motivation to live tbqh.
Honestly it kinda feels like EVERYONE nowadays doesn't have the will to live. I was just talking with a friend of mine who's boyfriend broke up with her... God fucking damn it, why must society get so much more difficult as time goes on? Shouldn't it get simpler now that we can cover more and more basic needs?
And damn, your inspiration to draw sounds so freaking cool. In my next post I'll put an image of something I've been wanting to create, actually the antagonist for one of my stories, he's supposed to be an ancient galactic dragon, and I've never designed mythical creatures. I've drawn birds and ponies (yes, shame me), but never dragons.
>Very nice drawing btw

I once made a realistic self-portrait, I'd post it but it could be technically considered doxxing myself lmao. I don't know if I'm too good at backgrounds, although I loooove making small details that make drawings stand out whenever I can.
Pixel art is so fun though, it's probably my favorite art style. And pic related is one of the ideas I'd like to make soon for the antagonist of my story. The drawing is not mine though, and I'd kinda like to make the character look a bit like a fluffy chinese dragon.

Some say that art dies when it becomes a job, and I kinda agree, when I work for others i completely turn off my ego and just try to please the client.
You can obviously do your thing but that's not gonna be as an easily profitable road as just doing what clients want.
Pixel art is about precision, not gesture and brush sensitivity, if a mouse works for you no reason to change.
I think the mass social medias designed to literally turn your brain to mush are the key responsibles, they just promote the most toxic behavios in people, with bandwagoning and projecting yourself and far away as possible from your actual reality and real human interactions, but I feel I'm kinda stating the obvious, and the topic is too deep to discuss in one small paragraph, there are many other factors at play.
Drawing dragons or ponies doesn't change much, as long as you got your fundamentals down and understand what you're doing it will all work out.
Just really try to understand what you're doing.

Minecraft is one of the games where I mostly feel like I progress a lot and do everything I can to succeed, but then a random ghast fucking blasts me in the face, or an enderman kills me in the night when I'm trying to return home... Or in yume 2kki I spend like 20 minutes trying to get from one place to the other, just to realize I had to do something beforehand to open up the access to the map that I was planning to visit. Or Terraria master mode in general just breaks my ass no matter how much I prepare for it kek.
>>205661650
When I have to do art for others I tend to ask them all of the details they want for the art itself, and if they say "Just draw this" I end up doing whatever feels good to my eyes. My best friend who I mentioned wanted me to draw Anxiety from Inside Out 2 for her birthday, and so I did. I like the way I drew her hair, although the drawing did look a bit childlike...
Now if a client does ask for something specific I do all that I can to please them, although my imagination can be a bit short in terms of *what* to draw. That's why I don't consider myself an artist, I'm creative but not ALL the time, lol.
>Pixel art is about precision, not gesture and brush sensitivity, if a mouse works for you no reason to change.
It's been a while since I did one full digital drawing that wasn't pixel, I want to finish this one that's a WIP for example. The bottom hand FUCKING SUCKS, but I used my own hand as a reference for the left hand. (It looks like it's the right, but it's the left; studying medicine surprisingly helped me learn anatomy a little bit, and everything is mirrored when you draw the front of a person, kek)
>there are many other factors at play.
Absolutely. I can just say that anyone who's truly passionate about something will do it even if it doesn't bring them any immediate good. And art should be that, not done for money only, but rather for a love of something.
I do wonder how to draw a galactic, gem-filled dragon...
>>
>>205660083
The secret to drawing is to really understanding the basics, like shading, gestures and 3d shapes.
Once you've learned those three things you will be able to do virtually anything.
I wish I could show you my human, animal or background stuff, but I don't have here one the phone, there's some stuff in my game concept work that fits very closely to what you'd like.

Basically it's a dream exploration game, where you walk around an entire- AND I MEAN AN ENTIRE world (2kki historians say there's like 9000 maps, but I think there's 3000 confirmed as far as I know) looking for 30+ effects, it's an unofficial continuation to the cult classic Yume Nikki. Both are pronounced the same, since 2 in japan is "Ni". Yume NIkki. Yume 2kki.
Two years ago an online server was opened and you can collect badges and a lot of stuff to show off just how much you've explored, here's the link if any of y'all want to try it. Just don't say slurs or you'll get banned. You can even play the original Nikki if you want!

What's an artist and what isn't is arbitrary, call yourself whatever you want really, its an inherently vague definition, though philosophers may have something to say about that, luckily I don't care about categories and labels.
That drawing is honestly good but yes the hand did not come out right anatomically, but there's gesture there that's already good, so you just need to practice a little and all will work out.
>>205662176
There nothing wrong with doing it out of instinct, that's how I draw, I've always disliked the traditional drawing techniques they usually teach, with mannequins and counting the heads, so I just kept at it doing it my own way, that felt right to me, kinda pig headed I suppose but it worked out for me, int eh sense that I like where it got me.
You do need to study though anatomy, but I always took a gesture heavy approach above everything else, similar to Claire Wendling
It's just a matter of hours of focused and objective based practice and not comfort zone doodling you put in, as far as getting better is concerned
You can learn to love the practice too with the right mindset, coming from someone who despised it.

but... next sunday I'm starting a road trip with my family (~3500km total) while """working""" (I'll slack as much as it is physically possible), so let's see

>luckily I don't care about categories and labels.
Honestly that's the best way to go about it. I feel like being called an "artist" is akin to being called "a master of your craft". I don't feel like I'm a master of my craft, but I do love drawing, and like my artstyle quite a bit, when things come out good. Sometimes I'm not content with my results, but I'm not too harsh on myself, FOR ONCE at least, heheh.
>there's gesture there that's already good, so you just need to practice a little and all will work out.
Absolutely! I'll try using a better reference for the lower hand (aka right hand), I feel like I did the girl's expression very very well, kinda like surprised, a bit flustered, a bit angry, just what I wanted to portray in her character.
>I've always disliked the traditional drawing techniques they usually teach, with mannequins and counting the heads, so I just kept at it doing it my own way, that felt right to me
Hey, if it worked for you it's not a bad thing! I must admit that I don't do that well following certain things like drawing circles and sticks to do a character's anatomy, it's more like I have to do a rough sketch of the body and calculate the size of each part of the body as I go drawing. Creating a skeleton and then erasing it frustrates me somehow.
I wish I had a teacher who had actual techniques to teach, but I'd have to pay to get classes... And I need classes to finish another assignment I have leftover from highschool, since the pandemic fucked me up academically...

I still highly recommend it though! It's really fun just racing to get to the expeditions, or collecting badges like there's no tomorrow, lol. There's so many beautiful worlds to visit, and since I'm a NEET and get tired when going out irl, this game is just perfect for me. I can explore without getting tired, and if I do get a bit stressed from looking too much at maps, I can just take a break, lol.

Absolutely! Honestly if we could be on a call it'd be easier for me to explain to you how the controls work, but basically Z and X are "interact" and "quit", the PC has 4 functions: 1. Saving (which is the first one you'll interact with usually), 2. Wallpapers (you can choose whichever you want and you start unlocking them by meeting different requirements in the dream worlds), 3. The sound room where you can listen to all the OSTs in the game, but only if you've visited those places in particular, and 4. The data function, where you can see how many nights you've slept, how many steps you've taken, NPCs killed, endings seen, and other things!
There's a LOT of stuff in 2kki, but if it's a bit too complicated we can begin with another fangame called Collective Unconscious, that one's a bit more beginner friendly and it's got a lot of beautiful places too!

And remember to not clean your cookies or else you'll get your savefile deleted; I do recommend keeping one in your PC just in case, you can download them from the disquette icon on the top left of the page. 2kki does require having a bunch of effects to go from one place to the other, but it ain't that hard getting the most used ones!

In a way, me too. I'm glad I grew up with a fun, zany, crazy yet innovative internet, and not the bullshit tiktok has brought to the kids nowadays. I hate tiktok and I don't want to download it no matter how hard others tell me "Oh but you'd get a job as an artist promoting yourself on tiktok!"

BASED AND BVLLPILLED, the most tiktokish thing I can look at is just youtube shorts and it's usually for ASMR or channels that do art things, or sometimes food. I kinda wish I got more thirst trap-y content because I like looking at people's bodies, the most I follow is cosplayers or people who dress up for fun though. I do get in my recommended some brazilian memes, or memes in portuguese. They're easy to understand, and a lot of other latino people get them judging from the comments.
>I don't get any recommendations and only watch what I'm interested in.
Honestly I feel that's the healthiest thing you can do, consume content that is actually productive and fulfilling for YOURself, and not just empty stuff that is trying to sell a message or some propaganda, or even cheap gossip. I like listening to theories about what's going on with certain people in the pop industry, like Ariana Grande. That woman looks like she's on the verge of collapse, it's scary.
>I just didn't think there would be any meaningful conversation in that relationship.
Finding someone who you can have deep and meaningful conversations with nowadays is quite hard, I mean... At least in person, in the internet it's easier to find people with likeminded interests, but they don't seem fond of commitment or having to maintain the relationship for long. I don't know, I should just give up on finding someone to date, if I look for it it just won't come.
Also I made myself a second coffee because I don't fucking care, I WANT the coffee, I'll get the coffee, even if it kills me!

Btw the other night my friend and I met some Irish frens, I was too drunk to talk about it afterwards but it was unironically one of the greatest nights I ever had.
They taught us about "splitting the G" basically drinking your first big gulp of Guiness so that the level falls on the vertical bar of the G once you're done. (pictured)
I tried it as soon as the guy explained and I did it first try, under the cheers of this big group of Irish lads.
I think I'll cherish that memory for a while.

We almost didn't pay one glass that night, met some wonderful guys and gals and ended the night all together singing https://youtu.be/cmpRLQZkTb8?si=78kRZqhavAuy5Ilk
in some very cool live music pub.

The next day we stumbled on the first guy we met by pure chance and with whom it all started and we were able to pay him a drink back.

So the town might have been grim but the soul and heart of people there is something else.
>>
>>205672525
The first Irish guy had talked to us on the street because he recognized my friends rugby scarf.
2 hours later, as we were going home, we just checked a pub just to see how it looked inside and we saw the same guy with his coworkers on a christmas party.
They bought us a guiness and it started crescendo from there.

With this first group, going from pub to pub and meeting more and more people.
We met other french rugby frens and helped them talk to the Irish and we ended up all singing together.
Met some incredible young lad, "blue jumper", talked with him a lot.
The irish lasses fed me crisps and wore our french bêrets.
Some older dudes bought us some wine.
It was very fun.

I'm scared that if I feed her nothing but catslop, I'll reduce her life expectancy, so I try to give her shrimps and grilled salmon at least 3-4 times a week, and high-quality cat cubes the rest of the time. Used to give her canned tuna a lot, but I'm worried that the high sodium content is a bit too taxing on her heart given that she's 6 months away from turning 20.

She's rolled over and gone back to sleep now that, maybe in another 20 hours when she wakes up again.

Honestly the sooner you try the sooner you'll get the hang of it! I must admit there is a bias amongst artists, where once you learn to draw one type of thing, it's hard breaking out of it and drawing something different. Artists who draw women tend to struggle drawing men, and viceversa. And artists who draw machines can have issues drawing detailed people. And so on and so on...
>it's probably because of my anxiety and previous experiences. I guess I'm just not very social.
It just upsets me when I finally grow close to someone and they end up ghosting me or disappearing, it's like... come on bro, why waste both our times just to tell me "Bro I'm scared of being close to others, goodbye lol". Not talking about you in particular, but just people who are severely avoidant.

My cat's been eating dry food in the shape of kibbles, water, she pukes hairballs every now and then, and she's gotten up to 15. As long as you're feeding her nutritious food, she's well hydrated, she's got enough space to roam around and check that she's pooping and peeing okay, she'll live a lot more. I would be a bit wary of giving her too much tuna, it can have too much salt for a kot. And there's also the warning of mercury poisoning in some types of fish too, but... She'll be fine. She's treated like royalty, from what I can read, hahah.

Crazy how trash footie fans are compared to rugby ones.
I went to my first rugby match 2 days ago with a small group of french fans against the local Ulster team.
Fans of both teams intermingled and sang together and when the match was over and we won, we were able to walk among the locals and many shaked our hands and said well played.
Ended up taking a bus home with half our fans and half their filling it and we just sang eachothers anthems all ride long.

I can relate to that, it's a gift to be like that but it can be hard to keep it up too so you need to have people who can dig behind the facade too sometimes.
I'm not really pessimistic but an optimistic nihilist. I get bouts of melancholy and almost depression (not chemical) but always maintain a positive outlook and I really live to make the people around me laugh and be happy.
Years ago, I could spend a whole night very upbeat but then leave the party without a word because it would all come crashing down on my mind.

>It just upsets me when I finally grow close to someone and they end up ghosting me or disappearing
I can understand both sides pretty much. I have been hurt before and also been ghosted. It's pretty much why I don't put any effort into any kind of relationships, people don't get high expectations if you limit your interactions.

I got out of the football craze at the right time I guess. I remember having a really hard time watching Spain play, then I thought that was silly and stopped caring, at exactly the best time I could do it, 2012. I guess I don't like it as much because of the people that follow it, seeing people beat/kill each other because they support different rich guys doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Then there's what they say online, not the brightest bunch.

yeah that's weird because its popularity is almost getting out of hand in southern france, so since we're neighbors, it's weird you guys are less into it than italians.
>Still haven't come to terms with sports being "great".
I personally don't follow much sports either but my friends do so I follow sometimes. What I can understand is the community, the pull of your team and the rush when they score. Even not understanding all the rules, this I very much get.
But playing sports will always be better than just watching to me.

>Ended up taking a bus home with half our fans and half their filling it and we just sang eachothers anthems all ride long.
Based as fuck, although I won't lie, we have a friendly banter between river and boca football teams here. I mean, like, competition can get REALLY heated and violent in and out of the stadiums, but there's been several instances where fans of a team got in accidents or needed to gather money for their families and the opposite team tried their hardest to help eachother out. I would rather have people fighting over football and not over politics, desu.
>it can be hard to keep it up too so you need to have people who can dig behind the facade too sometimes
Absolutely, I try to surround myself with people who understand my situation and won't judge me for not being able to feel happy or excited at times. My best friend has honestly been supporting me a lot this year, and she's told me I'm one of her only trusted friends that she can talk to in times of need. And I feel proud of that.
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, life can be REALLY shitty. REALLY. Fucking. shitty. And people can be mean, and cruel. But there's always some good behind everything, even in the worst things. If someone abandons you it leaves spaces for better people to come in, even if it hurts. Change is scary and sometimes too painful, but it's better for things to change and not to stay stale, I'd say. And I feel the same in regards to being a party animal all night and then coming home and just... Sulking down a bit. I don't know why, but that's me.

Honestly I mean, a lot of symptoms of ADHD can be confused with depression, and many times they overlap. For example I feel like I'm not as depressed like I was before, but I still feel like I can't function or concentrate very well in things, even if I like them. I get lost in 2kki even though I love it, for example.
>Oof, I haven't been able to do that for four months now.
I have an app on my phone that I downloaded called alarmy, and it basically forces you to do a certain activity to turn the alarm off, it can be mathematical operations or shaking the phone, or taking a picture of something. I use the maths feature, to make SURE I will turn it off lmao.
>I stuff myself with those everyday, I guess that's why it's the sweet stuff for me from time to time.
It makes sense, yeah. I do consume sweeteners almost every day, because I CAN'T go a day without drinking coffee or tea. It feels empty almost if I don't. But some days I feel like not drinking anything.
>Great taste you two.
u//w//u
>I haven't kept up for two years, I should catch up.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE LISTEN TO THE KING FOR ANOTHER DAY TOURNAMENT, it's one of the best goddamn things to come out from the internet, and I'm not kidding. Specially Mariya related rips are amongst my favorites, and Daft Punk and Weird Al and his stand [Beat It].

I wonder if my kot would like shrimp. ACTUALLY, I wonder how shrimp tastes like. I don't think I've had shrimp before, or maybe I did when I went out with a friend I met from 4chan... Yeah, I managed to somehow meet someone I met thanks to /int/, and he's an amazing friend. We ate a lot of food together, and went chasing after birds in a park lmao.
>Literally nobody gets a happy ending.
Like real life! Perfect happy endings don't exist, enjoy the moment and enjoy things while they still are here, because everything will end! At least we can experiment it, not a lot of people get to have fun in their lives!
>California 50 years from now
Woah, that sounds really fucking sick. I want to get more into the Cyberpunk 2077 lore and ost and game in general, I just can't play it cause my pc is literal garbage.
Apparently the Valentino theme is based on latino gangs and reggaeton. This'll be a hot take but I DO enjoy reggaeton every now and then. I even like Bad Bunny's "Tunometecabra" mostly due to the Baki meme. It's fucking catchy as hell, ngl.
>MUERTO TRASH
it feels like I need to be dressed in adidas clothes and be hangin' gold chains on my neck listening to this.
>El Tiempo
Conchetumare this shit slaps, it seems like the people who were behind the OST were really, REALLY dedicated to making an OST that would be unforgettable for the audience, and accurate to the cultures they were basing off. This kind of female voice seems like something I'd hear from latin rock, absolutely.
>BARRIO
>pic related
me falta la cerveza y el pucho y ya salgo de joda loco no puedo más
>DINERO
Man, I'm surprised they managed to get inspired off from reggaeton and latin pop and managed to make it sound so cool, futuristic, and badass and not cringy and forced. Sometimes I don't like latin pop because it feels too commercial, but this DOES feel like it was made for listening, and not just to grab easy cash, if you get what I mean.

Some latin reggaeton/trap songs I unironically like (maybe due to memes or because the beat is str8 FIRE) are these, I wonder what you guys think of 'em.
