What languages are even real? By this I mean usable in the highest levels of science and administration. There are the obvious ones like English, Spanish, Chinese, French, Japanese, Russian, German etc. but what else? For example I was shocked to learn that Arabic is such a useless brown sludge vernacular language despite being one of the 6 UN official languages and being spoken in so much countries. Their elites all use English or French for the highest levels of administration and science. Then of course you have the humiliation of not a single Indian language being a real language.
>>205719448>Their elites all use English for the highest levels of administration and science. That's the case for 99% of the world.
>>205719968No, if you go to university in China, Japan, Russia, France etc. nothing is in English. Arab sludge have such a widespread language but still rely on English/French in all of their highest level studies.
>>205719448>two Latin linguas>the most Latinised germoid tongue>the most Latinised slavanoid tongueRome is not dead, fratres! You just can't get rid of its heritage. Even 1.5 millennia after.
>>205720464No one is trying to get rid of it rather they are constantly reviving it in inaccurate, larpy ways.
Russia has a ton of linguistics that aren't available in other languagesJapanese obviously has a lot of information on Japan that you can't get in other languages but it's also dominant in sinology
>>205719448Japanese Language is most developed Language. All of Linguists admit it.
>>205720877>Chinese>And two types of chinese wannabe syllabaries>And romanization >And Arab numbers >And alternate spellings>And...
>>205720877Thisworld would be so much better if everyone spoke Japanese
>>205719448I think agglucative languages such as hungarian are good for that use.you can express extrememly precise relationships but the downside is that your sentences might not be as compact as english for example but I don't think that's as relevant in science.on the other hand, hungarian has a smaller vocabulary (I think 70k words) than english for example because there aren't as many native speakers of the language
>>205722691Inb4 "in germany we"
>>205722691Practically any language can be modified and adapted to be usable at the highest levels, I more so meant which ones actually are.
>>205722745>german people have to study science in germangrim>>205723012I don't understand what modifications you meanthe point of my post was that you can look up agglucative languages (hungarian, finnish, japanese, korean, etc.) and most of them would probably be fit for science and administrationor were you askin what countries conduct science in their own language? as far as I know these days most countries use english to an extent simply because it's spoken all around the world.
>>205723294>as far as I know these days most countries use english to an extentYou think that because aint nobody using hungarian for science
>>205723420a quick search shows me that around 1/3rd of german masters (natural science and mathematics) programmes are taught in englishI think it's safe to say most EU countries have similar rates (germany might even have lower than average % because so many people speak the langauge)so no, hungarian is not special in that sense. you are wrong
>English >real
>>205723671I doubt France is as high. Russia either, not EU of course. And Japan has been proactive in keeping Japanese in the highest sciences since the Meiji restoration, with China doing so too in its modernization. Other countries have tried this (Syria tried it for Arabic, Indians tried modifying Sanskrit terms to modernize Hindi languages for advanced use) but they failed.
>>205723671We definitely aren't taught IN EnglishWe are taught English yes because it's the international language for scientific publications, but that's it
>>205723294>>german people have to study science in german>grimThere have been German scientists for centuries, it's a perfectly suitable language to be taught sciences in, all the vocabulary is already there
>>205723671It's because modern science relies on international cooperation and english is the lingua franca
>>205725152yes, that's why I'm not sure if the topic is the languages themselves the conversation is all round the place>>205723897I don't follow. in the case of france and russia etc. you are describing social factors. in the case of arabic it seems like you are talking about the language itself. can you clarify which one it is?do you want to talk about the languages or something else?>>205725075>>>205725036I am aware
>>205719448That's because nobody uses Standard Arabic, and all the different dialects are basically different languages
