Occasionally I'll go out to events like concerts/farmer's markets/bars/etc. but I always end up just standing around by myself. In the past, whenever I've tried to strike up a conversation with a stranger, it has pretty much never gone well. I think it might have to do with the fact that I always go places by myself; most people seem to automatically be wary of others who are alone.

Not all drugs make you fail to comprehend reality, they can just take the edge off whatever pain you're dealing with. A few glasses of wine doesn't make you start seeing dragons or some shit. If anything, it can calm you down enough to help you think through what is right in front of you. Even still, reality requires some degree of non-reality. It's why we sleep (those of us who don't stay up playing video games all night), you can't effectively process reality 24/7, or you'll reach a point where you can't at all. It's just weird American puritanism (and maybe some Mormon bullshit) that has people saying nonsense like doing any amount of any form of drug turns you into a mental patient and an addict. The rest of the world gets that casual drug use (mostly alcohol) is completely normal.

I remember enjoying them at the time, but looking back, I did some really dumb shit during those classes and I kind of wish I hadn't ever signed up for them. It might have been a more viable choice back before people had endless entertainment at home, but I don't think it works very well these days. People mostly just go to do what they actually want to do, you'll be somewhat weird for being the one guy there who is doing it 'just because' while everyone else might even be unhealthily obsessed with the subject matter. I think the best thing to do is figure out where you actually belong. This probably has more to do with your career path than anything, find your niche in society and you'll meet like-minded people (who will be stuck with you, since it's their actual life and not just a once-weekly hobby club). Through that, you'll have a good foundation to meet other people through networking. I am neither of those guys btw.
