I know they're dogshit. I have IEMs for when I care about audio quality. These are mostly going to be for podcasts when I don't feel like wearing something in my ear.

People always shit on Bose headphones but I got a some of their noise-cancelling over-ear headphones for Christmas like 5 years ago and they’ve been completely great. I’m not a true audiophile by any means but I fail to see the problem with them.

Yes, but also mainstreams brands often skimp out on tuning their headphones for fatter margins. $20 Aliexpress chinkshit audio quality in $100 headphones because you recognize the logo.

There is a lot of bullshit in the audiophile world, but it can also be about you actually getting what you pay for.

its a long standing and pretty reliable theory that an increase in pizza place activity near the pentagon is an indicator of something happening because large parts of the staff end up staying late and pizza is ordered for them, you can line up most major world events in the last 10-15 years with increases pizza business near the pentagon, the pentagon also attempted to purchase a pizza place at one point but the guy denied them and the story got out and they stopped trying

>>214330805
yes above average activity on a friday before a holiday is an even bigger indicator that something is happening an above average amount of staff should be away form the pentagon in the first place

How can they differentiate between traffic from pentagon v.s just regular high lvl traffic then?
if they changed it to get from multiple places, then there would be no reliable way to tell that an increase is specifically from the pentagon v.s just people in general ordering more
>>
>>214331183

Right but again how can they know that spike is from the pentagon? it could just be a normal high level from regular people ordering more across the board
which u would expect on a friday
if they ordered at the same places everytime you could track it
but if they spread it out over several places it would literally be impossible to tel

>also won't hang up first so he can leave a negative review and fuck up my stats
I really can't comprehend the level of retardation it takes to do shit like this. I don't understand how these people think screaming at me, a random wagie, is actually accomplishing anything. I'm not the company. I'm not the suit who makes the policies or whatever the screwed you over. You yelling at me on the phone is exactly what they want, so you can use me as a verbal punching bag valve to release pressure without actually causing them to lose profit. I understand being angry at a scummy company but ffs I literally have 0 power to change things or decide anything. It's like they think screaming a million insults at me over the phone is somehow doing anything to the CEOs, managers, etc who are responsible for things. God I can't stand the subhuman who do this shit day in and day out. Also, I literally have your entire home address, SSN, etc sitting right in front of me on the screen. If I were more unhinged I'd just show up at their residence and punch them in the fucking face for all the unwarranted verbal abuse they hurled at me.

Fucking hate working in a call center thank fucking christ I have an escape in sight. Just a few more weeks of this crap and then never again. Never again am I working anything related to customer service. It's turned me into an extreme misanthrope and I now constantly fantasize about slicing people open.

I call upon you, O Lord; come quickly to me; give ear to my voice when I call to you.
Let my prayer be counted as incense before you and the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice.
Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Do not turn my heart to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds
in company with those who work iniquity; do not let me eat of their delicacies.
Let the righteous strike me; let the faithful correct me.
Never let the oil of the wicked anoint my head, for my prayer is continually[b] against their wicked deeds.
When they are given over to those who shall condemn them, then they shall learn that my words were pleasant.
Like a rock that one breaks apart and shatters on the land, so shall their bones be strewn at the mouth of Sheol.
But my eyes are turned toward you, O God, my Lord; in you I seek refuge; do not leave me defenseless.
Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me and from the snares of evildoers. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I alone escape.

Everyone in my family wants me to be a firefighter, they're trying really hard to make me see the appeal of it. My uncle says he could get me a job easily.

It seems dangerous though and also I've atrophied for over 25 years sitting and gaming. I feel like I would have to fundamentally change myself in extreme ways. Like the song extreme ways which is a good song

my aunt used to date a firefighter who was an alcoholic who would just read lit during his shifts

That's what my uncle said, but the academy sounds really hard. And also apparently most firefighters get burned somewhat. But the bigger problem is, what motivates me to do it at all is mostly what you just said and the fact that they have a lot of days off. It's not any desire to actually save people or help anyone, which seems like the wrong motivation

Sort of, yeah. You have to understand this isn't just being yelled at or mistreated one time. I am talking about literal years of seeing some of the absolute worst tendencies in humanity. The complete lack of shame, the greed, the relentless overindulgence especially gets to me. Like their complete unwilling to let up or even express the slightest bit of kindness or mercy or empathy towards you. The intense disrespect and cruelty you experience being targeted at you, even when you are literally doing your best to try helping someone all you get in return is vitriol and malice. Years of this kind of treatment. You hit a point where you dissociate hard and in those moments the person screaming at you or whatever doesn't even seem human anymore. Just more like a piece of meat that moves and makes noises. I don't know if I'm describing this very well, but even you hit that point where you no longer see the being talking to you as a person at all. Just an annoying, needy object. It's moments like that where I realize torturers probably have a very similar state of mind. Or so I'd imagine.

Anyways I'm not saying I'd actually do anything messed up like that. Not by any stretch. But I won't continue working in jobs that lead me to feeling this way. It is disturbing to find myself looking at people around me in that detached manner. Less people and more like alarm clock that is blaring noisily and needs to be turned off.

I've been working customer service jobs for 15yrs straight now, since I was a high schooler.

I've read The Bell Jar and all but one of the stories in the Lovecraft collection. I needed a readable copy of The Bell Jar because the only one I've got is a beautiful vintage hardcover that really isn't read-worthy, rather it sits on my shelf because it has perhaps my favourite book cover art of all time and it cost me $50 and I just happened to serendipitously find it in a used bookstore. These were all in the clearance section and were $10 for 3 and so I got five and one was for my mum. The Plague Year book was only eleven dollars. Honestly it's a pretty good haul considering it was from Indigo. I had enough points to get $5 off too. Picrel is the cover of the specific edition of The Bell Jar I had been searching for for years.

yeah I completely agree you can really tell when someone has worked a real customer service position or not by how they talk about it, I used to work a tech desk and like it 99% of the job was just having old people call you the most horrid shit you can imagine while literally screaming at you, anyone who thinks its an exaggeration or doesn't wear on you after doing it day after day for years has never been on the bottom rung of some faceless evil corporation

My uncle was a firefighter for decades and he's definitely seen some fucked up shit. He's typically really quiet although after he retired he became more outward and sociable. He told a few stories sometimes, seems like they experience some real traumatizing shit over the years. Makes me feel like a whining baby for complaining about customer service. But being more fair to myself, it's all just relative. Much lower stakes but much more constant and definitely bad for the psyche, if for no other reason than just the sheer quantity of social interactions slowly but surely devaluing the effect that any one interaction has on a person. I mean the existence of Dunbars number pretty much implies that there is a sort of maximum number of people we are capable of caring about. It's just human nature, we aren't really made to sit there talking to thousands and thousands of people. Your empathy starts to run out like a finite resource that's been depleted. Obviously not implying the two are at all comparable btw.

As for the fires he said they typically go on major structural fires about once a year at his department and they mostly do other things

Absolutely brutal. Yeah worst one mine described was also from a car accident. I'm pretty happy living blissfully unaware of what burning human flesh smells like. I'd like to keep it that way. I used to want to be an EMT but they get paid like shit and it's actually kind of a dangerous job due to their dealings with the general population (including gangbangers, junkies, etc). A lot of the same risks that law enforcement has in dealing with the degenerate subset of society with none of the protection.

I've seen more dead bodies than I can even remember in my city, no lie. It's less than 10 I think but it's happened enough times that I have to actually sit there and actively try recalling each separate incident. Most recent was in the summer of 2024 where 3 people were killed in a shooting on the train station platform which I passed on my way to work. It barely even got reported on, just a paragraph in the local news that I finally found after refreshing the news all night to try finding any information

And perhaps the most interesting of my "seeing a corpse" stories (none of them are all that exciting/eventful) was when I lived on the south side of the city in the hood. I got up and walked to the gas station to get a drink i think a monster iirc. The walk was maybe 1/2 a mile or maybe even less.

After returning home I was sitting in the living room and my brother arrived shortly after and told me how a shooting had just went down at the Texaco. I told him there's no way, I was just there like 15, 20ish minutes ago and nothing was going on. We hopped in his car and drove back over and sure enough, laying right on the ground by the pumps there was a dead dude. Cops were already there, taping off the crime scene and drawing the chalk around his body and everything.

That one was kind of surreal just because I'd missed it by such a narrow window. If I'd gone even a bit later or lingered in the area for any reason I very likely would have been at the scene when the shooting went down.

I don't think I ever even found a news report for that case but he was definitely dead.

And while I'm reminiscing, somewhat of a tangent but this was also when I lived in that same spot in the hood. There was this big poster in front of the wings and seafood resturant for a missing person. Her name was Tamika or some shit, and it had a picture of her with I think some details about the last place she was seen and a number to call if you had any details to her whereabouts.

That sign was there for forever, then like a year or two later, I happened to be back in that area (I'd moved away by then), and at that same spot, the "missing person" sign was gone and replaced with a sign "Justice for Tamika!". They'd found her eventually and she had been murdered.

And yet another fucked up story from my time down there. One evening while out for a walk, I came across a dead cat that had been nailed to a telephone pole. I stopped, stared in disbelief, walked away, came back and looked again. My brain couldn't process it and I ended up just continuing on. When I got home I told my everyone and we all loaded into the car and drove over there and sure enough it wasn't a hallucination or anything. Just a dead cat, nailed to the telephone pole. Shit was fucked. Sometimes i wonder if these two stories aren't related/same perpetrator.

Why is it super hard to find decent voices of reason who aren't either "everything goes" liberals or "you should follow my strict ideology because reasons" conservatives?
And what often irks me about conservative voices is that they are always so obviously co-opted by this or that lobby that totally discredits their supposed adherence to reason and Christian morality or Libertarianism or whatever else they claim adherence to.
