how do i get over bad language learning experiences? i keep getting distracted during my lessons
Three step plan to success:1. Learn your TL2. Go to country where TL is spoken3. Naturalize, change your name and successfully pretend to be native
Japanese orthography is weird. They put commas wherever they feel like, without any logic and constantly split lines in the middle of words, even loanwords written in katakana.
>>216295506My new name is Tanaka Takayuki, the White Samurai
When you reach enlightenment, all you need is a single step1. Learn your TL

>>216296805>in order to learn a language you need to parse messages in that language
>>216295522Truly the most schizoid of languages. I legit despise it on every single level imaginable.
>>216295522Commas and full stops in Japanese/Chinese are a recent innovation, originally text was written without any punctuation at all. Then they started using 。,、but only for poetry. 。indicates a full stop, ,is a half rest, and 、is a short pauseIn China they only started using punctuation consistently after 1920ish. Idk about Japanese, but I expect they weren't much earlier.

I remember there's a website where you can stream German-dubbed tv shows. It could be bs.to, but that website is no more. I want to watch Justice League (Die Liga der Gerechten) in German. Anyone got an alternative website? It's difficult to find torrents of German/other European language-dubbed tv shows. Unless someone has a tip?
>>216293040Is "overcompensate" such a rare word? I downloaded a list of English words by frequency from Kaggle, and this word is located at line 386504.
>>216299387https://s.tohttps://bs.toBoth are working for me.
>>216299562s.to doesn't have justice leaguebs.to, I can't open. Perhaps it blocks Indonesian connection.
>>216299511There isn't many situations you would use it. I wouldn't say its rare though. No way is it used less than any of the other words on this list, of which some appear to be brands (i.e. modcloth) or names (i.e. axson) or place names (i.e. swangard)
>>216299616https://s.to/serie/stream/justice-leaguehttps://s.to/serie/stream/justice-league-unlimitedhttps://s.to/serie/stream/justice-league-actionIs it one of these?
>>216299616>>216299562Never mind. My bad. The justice league cartoon is there. They didn’t use the german title.Still can’t open bs.to even with vpn.

Is this really what Germans listen to?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t1rUYLX2fk
>>216294887pretty good but when referring back to a noun like you did there, it's best to use regular personal pronouns, thus >, weil der op ihn schlauerweise mit einem...i think den isn't technically wrong there but semantically it means "that one" here, as if you meant to say "that specific thread over there" it's weird to get used to using personal pronouns for regular nouns and even though i speak german, it also feels sort of strange in russian to me, but whatever, it's what must be done...
>>216300366i am german and i do not listen to this, i will ask the other germans tomorrow if they do
>>216299511It's very informal/internet/Reddit-lingoInfrequently seen in formal and literary worksWhich as the Italian says is just reflecting the bias of the corpus you're using
>>216300521I wouldn't go as far as to say it is informal, there are just other ways of expressing the meaning or even more suitable synonyms for specific situations.I personally have seen overcompensate in some academic papers.
>>216300450>i am german and i do not listen to thisWir machen das in Deutschland nichtAm I correct?
>>216300847yeah looks fine to me
there's no amount of 'remembering the hanzi' that can make 未末 make sense
Rn trying to get a C1 CEFR on French and Portuguese.Might grind German again but I'm too busy rn, I'll probably switch to a more useful language (Like Mandarin or Russian).>>216301473What's your current method for learning Chinese?
>>216300366Yes, unfortunately. Ski AGU, Ikkimel and this one Turkish rapper I don't remember his name
>>216301473木 is a tree. 未 and 末 are also both trees.未 is a tree with short branches on the top, it's not finished growing = not yet finished末 has long branches, indicating it's completed or ended = complete, endThis is the origin of the meaning of the two characters, it shouldn't be that hard to remember Arguably something like 复 and 夏 or 长 multi-reading characters are harder
Is this hello talk a dating app??? I've just liked talking to people
>>216302654>Is this hello talk a dating app?Its not supposed to be, but a lot of people use it as one so I wouldn't be surprised if they just leaned into it more. For me, OkCupid is the app I use to find people to talk to in my TL lol.

>>216301567I've just mostly followed the HSK books and complemented it with a few beginner podcasts and the grammar guides in the chinese resource wiki (the official books are kind of bad at explaining grammar).>>216302087But it's still really hard to see in a screen. I just realized because i saw the word 周末 and my brain went "zhouwei". You could realize that 复 and 夏 have different hats even from afar.
>>216304257I don't know if that's the meaning of it, but it is undeniably one of the main driving forces behind it.
>>216304374once you learn the words it's easy. If you learnt the word 周末 you would always recognise it as mo and never mistake it for 未the fact that 未 is far more common than 末 also doesn't help

What is your favorite book you've read in your TL and what's a book you'd like to read in the future, but maybe aren't ready for?For German probably All Quiet on the Western Front is my favorite so far. In the future I'd like to read Magic Mountain by Mann, but still think that's a bit ambitious. I've only read the first Harry Potter in french. Pretty ignorant of French lit so not really sure what I want to read in the future. Maybe the Plague by Camus.
