I've been eating mangos lately and I've started to learn how to pick them better. For one thing, I learned color has little to do with the ripeness of the fruit. I used to think that their readiness to eat was indicated by a reddening of the peal, giving the mango its distinctive greenish red gradient. However that has proven not to be the case at all. Instead, a mango is best judged, so it seems to me, by its texture alone. Once softened, and slightly wrinkled like an old grape, the mango has entered its period of prime ripeness. Yet I still old some suspicions about the affect of color, not with regard to ripeness but instead the overall flavor of the mango and its succulent sweetness. I will continue my investigation of this tropical delight and report soon at a later date.
