In 5 years could I become proficient enough in Japanese to write manga? I'm practicing my art and I'm wondering if I should just start Japanese now.
>>219874425>In 5 years could I become proficient enough in Japanese to write mangaYes>why not just write them in English
>>219874506>why not just write them in EnglishI feel like I won't be taken seriously. The only time manga inspired comics outside of Japan do well is when they're vertical scroll comics. People shit on OEL manga so I'd rather just produce for the biggest comic market.

>>219877222ジブラルタルの友達です
>>219874555I'd personally appreciate an OEL manga more than one that's written in non-fluent Japanese. I think your time would be better spent just practicing art instead
I wanna learn japanese but I also wanna learn chinese and whenever I start learning one I get fomo and fud about the choices I made for eachI have gotten like 1k words deep in each of them in the past but then I get worried if I made the right choice and fall off
>>219882082>I wanna learn japanese but I also wanna learn chinese and whenever I start learning one I get fomo and fud about the choices I made for eachYou're better off clarifying what you learn Japanese or Chinese for and deciding which one to prioritize over the other.Setting your priorities with clear reasons in advance might free you from your anxiety.
>>219883046Theres pros to each>japaneseI'm on 4chan so obviously I like anime and video games. Theres a monumental amount of content that learning japanese opens up to meBut the amount of speakers and opportunities to use the language to connect with others isn't particularly huge unless I go to japan. >chineseThe sheer number of speakers is massive. Learning chinese opens professional connection opportunities with over 1 billion people. It would be nice to date a cute chinese girl too and idk chinese girls just seem more approachable. But it doesn't have the huge swathes of enjoyable content to consume like japanese. A lot of it is just chinese translations of japanese mediaReally I want to learn both and I should stop being anxious and just pick one because learning one will help with learning the other.
>>219884053Learn Japanese then because i, knower of things, internet schizo and big lady enjoyer, said so. There problem solved.
>>219884053which one do you enjoy learning more? learn thatboth languages are too difficult to learn for usefulness alone, just learn spanish or something if that's what you're into, easy and very useful

Ok I want to try an experiment.I was looking at the CIA methods of fast language learning and they mention that its just really rough drilling hell of massive volume. I want to see If I can maintain anki like this for a month.I've gotten up to 20 words per day and 200 reviews on my other lang when I was regularly studying and that felt pretty doable. But obviously this is orders of magnitude more work.pray for me

Which online English dictionary do you guys think is the most useful and recommendable to intermediate (or advanced) English learners?I usually use the longman or the cambridge when I encounter new English words in the wild, but what would you rate these two dictionaries out of 10 as a reliable source? or should I stop thinking too much and choose whichever dictionary I want?
wby are japanese so low morals?
>>219932920Why are you so low English?
Learned every kana but foundout fontschange entire charachtethers fmcl
>>219932726I'm a native speaker, but I use Cambridge myself. I like the online one has both UK and US pronunciations to listen to.Though I think just about any popular dictionary will be highly reliable, so I wouldn't worry too much and just choose the one you like.
>>219933484The same goes for kanji.I often see Japanese beginners having trouble with the difference in appearance between fonts. To give an example, pic related is how different the kanji 令 is depending on the font.>>219934126I see, thank you for the advice!
>>219932726I agree with UK anon, mainstream dictionaries are usually quite consistent compared to one another so any one you like will probably be fineBut I also recommend that you look at Wiktionary plus whatever other dictionary you choose. Just like Wikipedia, anyone can contribute on Wiktionary so not everything might be safe to believe, but it's a lot faster when it comes to writing about new slang that you'll see people using on the internet. It's much better curated than something like Urban Dictionary for example

>can recognize a lot of basic verbs but not the correct conjugation / tense>still have to look up inflections every time i see one that isn't in its regular form even after writing them out everyday>a ton of very important verbs break their own rules for conjugating properlyi fucking hate thisdoes it get any easier?
>>219979151Just read a lot and it'll become natural, thankfully japanese verbs are very regular for the most part
When you attach a verb to べき, it has to be the plain form in modern Japanese grammar.>話す -> 話すべき>生きる -> 生きるべき>食べる -> 食べるべきThis rule also applies to 恥じる categorized as group 2a (called 上一段活用 in Japanese), but you can also see 恥ずべき in the wild even though nobody says 恥ず or 恥ずる instead of 恥じる.>恥じる -> 恥じるべき / 恥ずべきIn addition to that, either すべき or するべき is fine when it comes to する verbs.>攻撃する -> 攻撃すべき or 攻撃するべき>行動する -> 行動すべき or 行動するべきSpeaking as a Japanese native, I feel like Japanese has grammatical exceptions more than you guys think.
