When will Shira start releasing again?
>>
>>47526060
After dmm lost 300 million dollars, they're lucky to still be operating.
>>
>>47526060
I wonder if anything they were working on got slowed by the "games need to appear to have completeness" part of Valve's review that has slowed some recent titles.
>>
>>47526060
Restless sheep and Wolf title is coming in September. I do think they still can release Destiny Star Girlfriend, Geminism by the end of the year in November and December. But the rest seem to be late December to early March titles.
>>
>>47526303
Just letting you know. Companies go through ups and downs all the time. Assuming everything is funded through Shiravune or is the only thing DMM loses money on is not correct.
>>47527575
The only example I could remember was Kuorinu in all honesty having that problem. But I do think they give leeway to companies that have a proven track record perhaps.

Any proof?
>>
>>47529493

>>
>>47529503
Not really so bad. Seems like it would never live up to the fantranslation people were used to reading.
>>
>>47529551
It's one of the worst official translations to date, I dunno what would constitute "bad" in your opinion if a complete butchery of the source material in every way imaginable isn't enough.
>>
If there's a fan translation that was made and then literal decades went by and only afterwards someone decided to make an official release with a new translation, that translation is always bound to be worse. From pure memory bias, you're just used to the other thing.
That said, I do think mirrormoon's FSN is better because it is almost always the case that a fantranslation is better than an official one for the simple fact that there's more passion put into it
>>
>>47532119
idc about nostalgia - mirrormoon has joke value, sure. But I think fbates is better because it actually is.
>>
>>47532719
cripes
>>
>>47532119
Honestly I can agree. It's almost always not going to live up to expectations if you had the fantl first.
>>
>>47532119
Nostalgia or not, the last official translation from them was Mahoyo; not only the translation was at the level of Y's 8 (yes, that one that NISA had to redo) but was full of typos. They called the day and never fixed/patched it.
So I wouldn't be surprised that F/N got the same treatment.
>>
>>47535060
>They called the day and never fixed/patched it.
Yes they did.
>>
>>47535215
Nope, they added some fixes for the engine and menus (maybe also for the trophies). The first part still has grammar typos and space typos. Not the Switch or Steam version had the script fixed.
>>
>>47535060
I never read Mahoyo but I believe it. Even passionate people have their sunset. Mirror moon had their time and it was 15 years ago and wasn't gonna last forever. Translating Mahoyo might've been trying to push it for too long
>>
>>47529586
I've looked through some of them and the examples really just seem nitpicky or are making mountains out of molehills. He says the official TL doesn't get Archer's tone right but the FanTL sounds even worse because there are no connectors between clauses leading to Archer sounding like an ESL even it is more literally translated. Official TL is not stellar, but still a far cry better than the original FanTL because it understands the nuances of English better and doesn't sound like it was written by an accountant.
>>
>>47536042
According to FateTLCompare, this jumble of syntactically unconnected sentences conveys how much of an ass Archer is more than official. I would say rather it conveys how much of an ESL the person making the critique is.

>I guess it can't be helped.
>Let's say I am your servant.
>In that case would you be my master?
>Just hypothetically.
>>
>>47536076
>Very well. For discussion sake, let's assume that I am your servant. In that case, are you my master? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

On the other hand, with the official TL, clauses segue into one another and do not hang in space like turds floating in an ether. Archer's thought process actually connects through phrases like "for discussion sake" and "hypothetically speaking, of course" (as opposed to the dreaded "just hypothetically" which makes it sound like he spazzed out an afterthought after a string of non-sequiturs).

I guess it can't be helped that FateTLCompare doesn't understand the function of simple English phrases. I have a feeling the words just blow around in his brain creating a general miasma of false elocution. Do not trust that man's critique.
>>
>>47536042
But that fits Archer and Shirou so well though. He is a superhero and talks about morality like it's a math problem
>>
>>47536143
Guy unironically uses MTL to compare the TL because he doesn't know any Japanese.
Nobody should take his critique seriously.
>>
>>47536143
The chunky but still mostly accurate english use gives off the impression of a character who knows english, but is not from this world and thus doesn't understand colloquialisms. I don't know what's so weird to you that this servant character would speak unnaturally, give that he is not natural. The supernatural but still serious nature of FSN with its time-travelling characters lends itself perfectly to that kind of speech. How much of that is by accident, probably a lot of it, but it's a fortunate accident that makes it better
>>
>>47536227
>everything that isn't official translated is MTL
Anon, I'm not even him but throwing a weak bait like this isn't very constructive.
>>
>>47536250
>bait
retard
It's literally in the comparison screenshots
>>
>>47536248
This is cope. He is not talking 'chunky but accurate english'. He is talking in fragments. He is talking like a Samuel Beckett character and not a heroic spirit.

It is like this. I am speaking. Understand. English is a second language. Hypothetically you are. Language is not very nice. Hahaha!
>>
>>47536296
No, that's hyperbolic. There's nothing on that level. Certainly not the example you used. Which is just pedantic levels of complaining about an exotic "heroic" way of saying something vs how Joe from Brooklyn would say it
>>
>>47536315
Your critique would make more sense if Archer was the only one speaking like this and not every other character both local & exotic to the setting (even then, if conveying 'exoticness' was the aim then all the heroic spirits should be translated to capture the cadence of their literary counterparts -- Saber should sound like she came out of Arthurian Legend and whatnot). Stop with this cope and just admit the FanTL was a load of shit.
>>
>>47536350
How much does aniplex pay you to shill a translation they'll just end up patching a year from now anyway
>>
>>47536398
As expected, no rebuttals. I don't even need to shill for the TL when plenty of people are buying it already and Nasu us rolling in FGO money.
>>
>>47536350
I mean, they do. Archer just goes on insane philosophical ramblings so he gets the brunt of the criticism
>>
The problem is some people see FSN and lots of other media like a Marvel movie. If you go and watch a Marvel movie, the superheroes talk exactly like you want them to. Cause they're made for a braindead audience. But FSN is not like a Marvel movie. It's actually much closer to Harry Potter. And if you watch any Harry Potter you'll know how much weird speech is in it. Because HP is filled with weird-ass characters just like FSN is
>>
A more thorough crit by someone who knows Japanese can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/vns/comments/1eo7y4g/comment/lhf4hkt/

Mirror Moon couldn't even get 聖緑の瞳 right. How the fuck could you mistake 聖 as 'quiet'?
>>
>>47536510
Are you retarded?
>穏やかな聖緑の瞳
>>
>>47536540
Notice the lack of anything related to holiness, saintliness, or divinity in Mirror Moon's TL.

I don't care if they "sound like ESLs" or that its stiff if it conveys both the text and emotions therein better.
If you believe grammar is more important than that, then you might be too retarded to understand the complaints in the first place. if I wanted to read english prose I'd read english books. A translation that doesn't get the distinct feel of japanese sentences across is worthless.

>>47536227
I know nip and whatever GPT spat out was the most part better than both mirrormoon and official, I don't see the issue in adding it for EOPs. No point discussing translations without involving them afterall
>>
>>47529503
funny how people focus on the nitpicky stuff while ignoring blatant pointless changes like "wh...at" to "impossible", the ruination of the most important character moments in the basement scene where the translation goes full fanfiction with Saber, complete mistranslation of a sentence in the Kirei fight and such great ideas as "unseeable" sword.

Arguing in bad faith? Industry shills? I dunno, but sure says alot when you focus on the least questionable while ignoring the horde of elephants rampaging throughout the room.
>>
>>47536042
It's a perfectly fine sentence? Did you even listen to the attached sound? Archer clearly pauses several times, that's why it's separated into several sentences. The official TL ignores that entirely and fails to convey how dismissive he is because it omits the "just" from "hypothetically speaking"
>>
>>47537415
It doesn't even convey the text nor emotion better. Emotion is tied to register & prose you illiterate idiot. The fact that cute girls, strong heroes, and cool beauties all have dialogue that read like monotonous cavemen utterances doesn't get a 'distinct Japanese feel' across, but gets the ESLness of the translator across. You aren't reading either English prose or Japanese prose, you are reading some mish-mash created in the mind of an amateur writer.

If you actually gave that much of a shit about getting the original feel of the Japanese, then you would be hurling bile at every single line of the Mirror Moon's TL since it doesn't even feature the aspect that contributes the most to the feel of the text: the phonetic rhythm.

Look at this sentence in the Japanese for instance:

僅かに振り向く横顔。
Wazukani furimuku yokogao
Official: The faint slant of her profile...
MM: The face slightly turned.

Notice the rhythm Nasu creates by using consonance of 'k' and internal rhyme. All of that is lost in Mirror Moon's TL. The official translation at least has the half-rhyme of 'faint' and 'slant'. Everything, from syntax, to phonetics, to semantics, contributes to a 'distinct Japanese feel', yet Mirror Moon obsessively focuses on the semantic domain only, and only in the most literal sense.

The truth is, you don't actually care about capturing the feel of Japanese sentences, you only care about capturing your idea of what Japanese is like, which neither linguistically nor objectively corresponds to Nasu's actual text. Thankfully, Type Moon doesn't listen to illiterate retards on an imageboard.
>>
>>47537666
'Just hypothetically' doesn't even sound dismissive. It sounds like some shit teenage girls say. And this isn't a fucking anime dub. The translation syncing with the 'lip flaps' doesn't mean anything when the writing sounds schizophrenic.
>>
>>47537635
>funny how people focus on the nitpicky stuff
>first example he gives is a nitpick.
>>
>>47536042
This is something I agree with. This is the most cherrypicking nitpick things I have seen in awhile and knowing he used MTL

>>
>>47538031
It's a good thing there's more than one example then, isn't it? I think they're industry shills (noo dont use MTL even though its correct nooo my jobberino noo) but maybe they're just retarded and haven't checked further, true.
>>
>>47537995
>original line delivery that you can hear doesn't mean anything
retard.
>it sounds like some shit teenage girls say
are you trying to agree with me by saying it fits how immature and sarcastic archer is in that scene?
And yes it does convey that because he adds it as an afterthought. Maybe you'd have realized that if you listened to the line delivery.
>>
>>47537415
>I don't see the issue in adding it for EOPs. No point discussing translations without involving them afterall
Ackshually the only people who whine about TL quality is JOPs. FSN has been beloved for decades so of course the Mirror Moon TL is fine, in fact it's better than this new one

Just because it's readable doesn't make it a good translation. If someone went back in time and translated the VN before him but intentionally mistranslated something minor once every 20 lines would you still have the same attitude towards it?
>>
>>47544480
>Yo check out my hypothetical
The translation in your hypothetical would be read by 10 people because 1) it was 2004 and no one knew wtf a VN was back then, and 2) 4 years is not enough time for people to catch on to a VN's quality. VNs aren't video games. You need like 10 years for enough people to go "oh shit, this is like, good good", because VNs aren't popular in your situation like 10 people would've read your FSN.

Versus Takajun's FSN which is frankly responsible for a big leap in VN popularity in the west
>>
>>47544438
>Bad TLs are fine because at least it's readable
Jesus, you might as well just say fuck it and google TL everything then. You may have no standards but don't drag others down with you
>>
>>47544769
>Completely readable, enjoyable, thought-provoking and emotional, and frankly probably 95-99% accurate TLs are bad because I say so
You realize your schizo misconstruing works both ways, right?
>>
I always liked Takajun's TL and his way of bruteforcing sentences - ended up super accurate whenever it worked. Hard to call it good though considering the mistakes or him omitting text at times
>>
>>47544347
>>47544740
Can you get Takajun's cock out of your mouth?
>>
>>47545273
are you the visual novel equivalent of the hipster who says FF7 is overrated? don't answer that, it's rhetoric
>>
>>47545917
I can not hear you over your deep throating that Takajun cock.
>>
>>47544740
I can assure you that the percentage of people reading Fate back in the day who were doing so solely because it was TakaJun's TL is less than 0.5%.
>>
>>47546275
What kind of argument is that even supposed to be? He was the only person willing to do it. It took over 10 years for someone to make a new translation.
>>
>>47546352
You're the one who said that no one would read the hypothetical translation I mentioned.
>>
>>47546372
Yes because that's exactly right
>dude what if intentionally bad translation
>and 4 years earlier meaning people would be on their Windows XP playing Half-Life 2
>wouldn't Fate have been a huge thing too???
No. No, dumbass. It wouldn't.
>>
>>47546890
>and 4 years earlier
You're the one who came up with this.
>>
>>47547173
Then explain yourself next time.
>dude what if one day earlier there was a translation that came out before mirror moon's translation came out
I...? Then everyone would wait exactly one day and exactly 0(zero) people would read that
>>
>>47547494
cont.
and since, what you really wanted to say is, what if mirror moon's translation had never come out and only that tl did, in that case people would fix it. If it was that level of troll translation someone would fix it. In fact the person who would fix it would be Takajun
>>
>>47547494
Way to take it to the other side of the extreme.
>>
God, the retards are really going for it, aren't they?
>>
>>47548150
Fate has a way of bringing retards out of the woodwork
>>
>>47546372
I'm not even the same anon, I just think you're being fucking retarded.
>>
>>47545917
Dumb example given FF7's original translation is criticized both for its spelling/grammatical errors and for outright mistranslations, most infamously in the first boss fight.
>>
>>47548912
Nope, your gotcha backfiring on you
It's literally a better translation than the nu-Square one. Only idiots think Aerith > Aeris. And the line where Tifa calls Barret a retard is *chef's kiss*. No one who is not autistic cares about a rare spelling error
>>
>>47548244
Exactly like the guy who sucks Takajun cock.
>>
>>47548244
Exactly like the guy who has Takajun living rent free in his head
>>
>>47548150
Looks like it has already died down.
>>
>>47548244
I wonder how many people who only experienced FGO look at the Fate VN now.

I didn’t need to read this story a second or third time! FUCKING TRANSLATE NIJUUEI ALREADY
It’s not only better the tns in every way but I’ve seen a person insert eng text into the game on twitter

In other news Katawa Shoujo has been released on Steam
If you haven't played it since it released twelve years ago and presumably without the sex scenes and nudity
You now remember Katawa Shoujo

I have the translation but I'm waiting for December
>>
>>47557499
I understood the reference, it just had no relevance and made no sense.

>>47557487
Yup, he literally spend almost half day spamming that shit for weeks. ...until janny got tired of that shit.

The concept is from RAITA, though. So it has some japanese element to it.

Stay. - Fragments of Memories, a short doujin VN based on Tactic's ONE ~Kagayaku Kisetsu e~, has received a translation.
>It was written and illustrated by people who would later work on Clover Day's and Onigokko. Manack and MANYO, future partners of Key, composed the BGM.
>>
>>47559890
I think it was made for Train fans which exist everywhere. It's Kamige because of that alone. Lolitrains are the cherry on top.
>>
>>47562481
It was funded by Lose's chinese audience. They even added some characters that were Chinese.
