Mostly it doesn't matter that much but there are also many cases where the lyrics are part of the intended musical message. Mukai Shuutoku of Number Girl and Zazen Boys really creates a whole new worldview in his songs which are continuously flowing through one song to the next between his albums and even different bands. Like 冷凍都市の暮らし アイツまた姿晦まし 六本の狂ったはがねの振動 ガキが笑う何も知らず and of course 繰り返す諸行無常 蘇る性的衝動 and many other lines are carrying meanings through his whole work. Has to be extremely strange to enjoy the song without being able to grasp it's meaning.But even taking pop acts, YUKI for example has a song released on her first solo album that reflect on the break up of her band Judy&Mary and how should she approach her life from that point onward.
