This thread is for the discussion of Japanese music, in theory. Mostly it's just youtube links.Derivative doujin music, Vocaloid, VSingers, Yoasobi, AniKura, idol songs, etc. go in their respective threads.

>>46619955Not sure, it's a good question, though. But consider that most people don't really know/are interested in full historical and (sub)cultural context of their own countries anyway. If you are suggesting that foreigners cannot understand the (nearly) full context of native musical scene then I would disagree. It's just that most people are not really interested or don't have the means (language) and aren't bothered to acquire it.I've always wondered about lyrics. Mostly it doesn't matter that much but there are also many cases where the lyrics are part of the intended musical message. Mukai Shuutoku of Number Girl and Zazen Boys really creates a whole new worldview in his songs which are continuously flowing through one song to the next between his albums and even different bands. Like 冷凍都市の暮らし アイツまた姿晦まし 六本の狂ったはがねの振動 ガキが笑う何も知らず and of course 繰り返す諸行無常 蘇る性的衝動 and many other lines are carrying meanings through his whole work. Has to be extremely strange to enjoy the song without being able to grasp it's meaning. But even taking pop acts, YUKI for example has a song released on her first solo album that reflect on the break up of her band Judy&Mary and how should she approach her life from that point onward. It's fascinating to imagine people who listen to it as just "a song".https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdtK67HFFEE
Don't care about lyrics unless i care about the artist as a person. Plus, most of the stuff i listen to is unintelligible.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrHjU_eevpY&t=348sOkay so I finally got to listening MIDORI's "Hatsutaiken" concert. What can I say? I left with the feeling that I "ちょっとだけ大人になったかもね", as the famous singer ASMI would say.I think I should call the vocalist "Gotou-sensei" (because of the whole school uniform education themes). That and...I felt like I learned something important from that music and from Gotou-sensei in particular. The chaotic feeling of sensuAL FrustRation that we should all release together in synchronization. Wow wow wow I'm still vibrating while I'm writing this with the memories of Gotou-sensei's performance.Seino! Kaihou! せーのっ!解放!!!!!...not gonna lie I got a few, hmmm..., "excitements" while listening but I think that precisely was the intent - to awaken the Primale within the audience. This is really a worldview changing experience now I have a completely different view of Japanese girls, something infinitely deeper than how I used to perceive them but also with a lot more attention to the surface at the same time...damn this sounds cringy when I write it out but whatever it is better to say this than not to say this. Yet I still have this elusive feeling that there is something that I missed out on, there is without doubt something deeper here that is mean to be deciphered.Hmmm.Anyways,どうもありがとうございました。

I haven't heard of Minami in a while.Checked her channel seems like videos are still coming slowly but nowhere near her Kawaki no Ameku era of success. What happened?
>>46822718She had a few songs on MAISONdes
>>46822718She wrote this song for Gakumas just last week although she is not singing herehttps://youtu.be/Sq5Dj0U06vQ
The best Gakumas song so far is the one that Hakushi Hasegawa wrotehttps://youtu.be/VJk2etK8I1w
Those damn eyes.
>>46818692You okay?
Just casually walking by with an artefact.
Shelter's stage is so tiny, most restaurants have bigger ones. And audio is very quiet. But all 3 acts were good. I need to search for some videos of the second one and post them here, never heard that girl(鈴木実貴子ズ), but she's badass.Mariko's red guitar sounds weird plugged into JazzChorus instead of regular Marshall(i know that she used JC back in 2005, with that much distortion it doesn't matter). Or it was those strange boutique overdrive pedals. Almost bluesey. Lap steel guitar sounds godly with psychedelic effects.Harada's bass was barely audible on Midori albums and it's still is.

>>46834380I didn't even see that part of Shimokita. Spent most of the time near Shelter so i wouldn't miss the opening. Even then, managed to get assaulted by a TV crew asking for interviews. And my next stop there would probably be BasementBar, next year.

Happy End - Kazemachi Roman (a Meiban Documentary) English subhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxrwm8vWvGMThis documentary explores the making of Happy End’s "Kazemachi Roman", considered by some to be the greatest Japanese classic rock album of all time. Special emphasis is placed on the making of "Kaze wo Atsumete", the most famous song on the album (popularized by Sophia Coppola's film "Lost in Translation").
Another one.
It's actually insane how effortless she is at playing insanely hard rhythm parts.Hisako truly is one of a kind. And i liked how much more edge toddle had live. Their bass player seemed like he was playing thrash or something.Other acts were cool too. Alt-idol dancing was as hilarious as it seems on videos.

I've already bought my tickets for BrooklynThe spotify presale code is FBMT2024
Same venue as MOTFD too, but the tickets were a bit pricier.

Audience at westoid tours is always extremely lame.
>>46853511I agree the shows I've seen in Japan had a better energy, but since I live in usa, it is what it is. I feel like shows were better in the west years ago before cell phones took over. Still, I'm glad these bands will even come over and do shows here. I think if I lived in Japan I'd probably go to multiple shows a month.
Try Akiko Shikata https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL29177B8C1CD9CD87
>>46853152Tickets already sold out in LA/The Novo. I find it hard to believe there are enough hardcore Lamp fans here in LA to make this happen. I almost forgot how retarded concert-going is in this country.
Mariko just had to start the october tickets giveaway when i was on the plane. Now I'll have to beg her directly again.>>46858959Scalpers?

>>46853565>these bands Most of them come over because they can't pull audience in Japan anymore.
>>46860730That's not totally fair.Personal tastes aside, many of the artists coming to USA this year can absolutely fill shows in Japan. Ado, Yoasobi, Fujii Kaze, AG... These bands can sell out in Japan no problem.
Well, maybe music acts is a better term, but it doesn't change my point.
>>46859012>>46859121Yup most likely. Can't even enjoy going to shows these days. Everybody is trying to make a quick buck out of everything.

>>46863780The video is a few years old though
>>46864880It doesn’t matter, the graph indicates that the popularity of western musics have never surpassed domestic music at least in two decades past.Saying Japanese people don’t listen to Japanese music is just retarded.
