imagine canon translation kohaku
>>47189224Why?
>tsukihime remake is finally coming out in EngrishHonestly don't see the worth in it just like FSN VN being in English other than trying to make more money kek.
>>47189453To appease the gaijins so they might think type-moon actually cares about them
>>47189453The only thing that interests me remotely about FSN will be the comparisons between the translations, and the possibility of uncompressed intros. Other than that, I could not give any less of a shit, especially since it's not on GOG, and the Ultimate Edition already has all the QoL improvements I could ask for.

Is the arc route just filler in the remake if I've played the original?
>>47190491Nope, there is new stuff read it.
>>47190491Basically yes. It's a sort of poetic metaphor for how brain dead Arc fans just want the same slop shit and fluff over anything interesting.

The only actual value of these localizations is to see the canon translation of the magic/cosmology terms, as that might give a better insight to what they are really referencing and also help understand how other things should be read as in the future.

>>47192170lol lmao even
>>47191671I really am not sure about that. Unless Nasu is approving the translations I'm not sure you can say they are meant to reflect the original Japanese .
Fan TL is still better.
>>47192107Normal Arc with long hair =/= Princess Arc/Crimson Moon. The Valentine's scene in FGO outright states Princess Arc is superior to every other Arc version due to being basically Crimson Moon 2.0. MBAACC also states she has an higher degree of Authority than normal Arc.
>still answering to the korean cuckやれやれだぜ
>>47192587Reading this has me a bit confused. To my understanding in MBAACC, AE refers to Crimson Moon as "father." I thought she was merely an aspect of the Crimson Moon, not the Crimson Moon itself?
>>47192643It's both.
>>47192001I hope to god red garden happens in 2025. I feel like at this rate we won't see anything until the 2030s.
>>47190056And yet, nobody plays them.At least you can experience VNs fully solo. Not even counting that Tsukihime's remake sold 300k copies without having an english adaptation yet.Fighting games are a dying genre, people don't want to interact with other people anymore if you need to actually put effort into it.Fighting games are the peak of skill expression and understanding of human psychology.Gacha also also doing the majority of the work for all these spin-offs.
>>47192710>Not even counting that Tsukihime's remake sold 300k copiesAnd that was in January of 2023 when MB sold 330k, so I doubt it's very far behind even now.
>>47190056>>47192710I don't want to knock people that enjoy fighting games. But MB is a clear cut case of "I only played for the story/arcade modes and never booted it up again". As far as Type-Moon goes, the appeal is the story and characters and on this front the VNs win by a mile. I've played all TM VNs multiple times and go knows how many cumulative hours that ends up being. In the high hundreds for sure.
>>47192790aaaaaaah sacchin sex
>>47192779I personally used to think Ciel was lame from reading the VN, then fell in love with her because of Melty. The fighting games add a lot of spectacle and depth to characters you'd normally think are boring.Wanting to learn Ciel properly pushed me to learn facts about her only diehard Ciel fans know, and I started out by hating her. That's the power of fighting games for you.
>>47192804It's funny because they originally planned to have MB be a spinoff with Ciel as the protagonist but then realised no one would want that.
>>47192587>>47192643>>47192661Hime is both CM and Arc. Same person. Arc's CM. But for power level purposes, yes, Arc's "future"/Progenitor form is strongest since she's clearly more acting as her role as the CM and the Planet. So like the seat of two worlds it feels like.
>>47192804Can't say I agree. The only thing MBTL has added to Ciel was power levels. The depths of her character are all in the VN.

>>47193347It is an incomplete work, the same could be said about Saber route back in the day when FSN was released, now look what we have today. We have more Saber in anything than we can digest.
>>47193347I feel like it's a complaint people say because they don't really have anything to nitpick on. Arc route is intentionally incomplete. It serves as a basis for the rest of Tsukihime structurally and helps make Ciel Route so good which retroactively adds context and makes Arc route better. It's strange people don't recognize that and view them as purely singular scenario when they are interlinked while standing on their own. Not to mention it will end up with True Arc anyway so it's a judgement on half a route really. Kinda short-sighted I think. The reviews are good though. Got some praise for BLACK in saying Remake eclipses even Mahoyo and also others saying the cast is their favorite in TM that just clique perfectly. >>47192779>But MB is a clear cut case of "I only played for the story/arcade modes and never booted it up again".I think you are vastly underestimating, while niche, how big Melty Blood used to be. Especially the Act Cadenza and Actress Again competitive scenes. And these people knew jack shit about the lore and especially knew zilch about Tsukihime.Type Lumina failed to reach those heights for many reasons, some reasons people don't want to admit. Poor launch, poor matchmaking/netcode, poor roster, poor gameplay mechanics and frankly at a casual glance a lot of the characters and aesthetics just lost a crap ton of appeal compared to the old Melty Blood. Aside from the fact it's not finished, how do you convince someone to read the original Tsukihime first and then the Remake? I'm having hard time trying to recommend someone to try out the original Tsukihime given how it's severely inferior to the Remake technical wiseAnd also, which old Melty Blood games would you recommend others to try it out? I was thinking of just Melty Blood Re-Act because of how it has visual novel story mode that other Melty games don't have
>>47196730I'm reading the OG Tsukihime, and I won't bother with the remake.
>>47196730I like the original more but I wonder how reading the remake first would feel.I feel like Shiki meeting Arc is way more impactful in the remake, the music and CGs add to it quite a bit.

>>47196763Aren't arcade stories non-canon? I can't remember if they were all connected to each other Melty games

so i just found out that Nasu and Takeuchi went to Comiket 100 as BambooBroom, and this got me wonderingWere they always called BambooBroom until the publication of KnK in Comiket, or until Tsukihime? And also, when was the name Takebouki ever used? I know it's a Japanese word for Bamboo Broom, but looking up, some sites say that's what were they called and that was the website they used to publish KnK
>>47208291I want Red Garden to come out so bad.
>>47208340same
>>47208267BambooBroom was their website and circle created in 1998 and was used to publish KnK digitally and occasionally physically, and also Takeuchi's valkyrie manga.TM was created somewhere in 1999 but the first time they went to comiket under the name TM was in December with the Tsukihime trial floppy. Earlier that year at summer comiket where they released the original Tsukihime announcement 'trial' floppy they did so under the name BambooBroom. In 2001 when they released the doujin novel version of KnK they did so under BambooBroom. Then there's a gap until 2008 when they released Mirai Fukuin under BambooBroom. Then Haru to Tuki to Sora to under BambooBroom in 2012.And I think that's everything until C100.Basically KnK is usually always BambooBroom except there are exceptions like Plus Disc coming with the first 4 KnK stories.
If I'm right then this should be the first ever TM circle cut, from C57.

>>47217569Best arc of the series. It starts going downhill after that.
>>47217648Honestly, I only decided to pick up the series because I heard there's a KnK cameo. Maybe I'm biased against Fate and the whole mage subplot, but I couldn't finish the first volume from the case files, and was surprised to find myself devour through those two volumes. I wonder what's about that... (would it be best to spoiler the details from the story? I've already finished it, but not sure how spoilers would work for untranslated works)
>>47217696You started reading the Adventures without reading Case Files? Kind of a weird choice, but not detrimental I suppose. In my opinion, Case Files is far better written and thought out on basically every front. It actually has properly developed characters and a cohesive plot for starters. Adventures started off promising but it's pretty obvious at this point Sanda is just making up shit as he goes along seeing as the current arc reads like a fanfic from that joke scene in F/HA. Most people here know little about the series so I would use spoilers to be nice to them.
>>47217744Yes. I think I'm just not interested in any of the magic stuff, and just want to get to the part with the cameo, since that's the only reason why I started (frankly, I'm a Fate secondary as well...). I think for the Case Files specifically, with little impressions of it besides 3/4 of volume 1, it seems promising to the right audience, but from what I've read, I'm mostly only interested in II's (not sure how people would normally call him, it was often 二世 in Adventures) character development since he has that down-earthiness that I like in characters. Just to make the story seems more grounded. To preface regarding the Yakou story, there were relatively of words that I didn't know and did not look up while reading, so I might've misread/not understood some stuff. I guess there doesn't seem to be a high bar for Adventures so I'm not asking you to compare it to the other stories in this specific series, but what are some specific aspects/details that you found memorable or noteworthy? I didn't go into the book expecting much and was mostly reading casually, so it's hard to articulate what made me personally interested so much. Vaguely, I think the pull for me was wanting to know what Akane would do as the story progresses. Maybe I have a thing for woman in traditional settings, but I found myself enjoying every scene with her in it -- between a combination of her relationship/view of her children mirroring classic Asian parent tropes of projecting their ambitions onto their kin and her stereotypical Japanese indirectness and even cunningness, yet not straightforwardly evil makes her scenes very enjoyable to read (part of me was slightly "disappointed" when I knew her conversation with Mikiya in the end would be how Sanda tied up her character, but it was understandable). I think all the little and big details about how all the gods and Japanese Shinto tied together were cute and thoughtful. It's a tiny gripe for me when authors write a story as if it was all a coincidence, but still, the times where those details link together made me smile. Though, I almost skipped all the fighting scenes and mage infodump (from Reines). I don't know why. I couldn't get myself to go through them.Without risking this being too long, I have a few questions to bring up: besides being a nod to her mom, why did Mana say "生きているなら、神様だってつくってしまえるんだから", and what does it even mean, abstractly? This was also brought up in the story -- why did Yukinobu not abandon his family completely if he really wanted to stop being special (or does abandoning like that make him special?) ?
>>47217870I haven't read it since it came out so I'm just going by memory here. Ironically, the main thing I liked about that arc was not so much the Yakou themselves (although they were well done) but rather that I felt it actually characterized Ergo quite well. The first book mostly left him as a mystery but in the next two you learn quite a lot about him. Not just boring shit about his powers, but on a personal level too. Like how frustrated he gets after losing to 白若瓏, having to deal with his fear of losing his memories, etc. At the time, it seemed like Ergo was essentially going to assume the main character role so I thought this was all quite well and good. The reveal of ジズ was also pretty good and reminded me a lot of how Heartless was introduced in the previous serious. With regards to your questions, unfortunately I don't remember that Mana line at all so I can't give you deeper insight. So with me guessing without context, it's essentially just a roundabout way of saying that anything is possible as long as you live. You can even create God which is sort of like one of the ultimate things a human can do. For Yukinobu, it wasn't just any old "normal" he was yearning for. He wanted what Shiki and Mikiya had. Despite being born in an ancient family full of duties and burden, Shiki found someone that would accept her completely as she is, start a family, and more or less live a normal life. For Yukinobu, just running away from his family duty or becoming a deadbeat dad wouldn't accomplish any of this. Shiki got to have her cake in eat too. He essentially wanted that.No idea if my opinion on Adventures is in the minority or not. There's maybe like 3-5 anons max here that have even read the series. I think it's not a too controversial claim that the whole Van-Fem arc feels really corny so far though.
>>47217870>生きているなら、神様だってつくってしまえるんだから"Epic reversal of the Shiki line about killing god.

>>47218014> For Yukinobu, just running away from his family duty or becoming a deadbeat dad wouldn't accomplish any of thisI didn't think about how running away from his family would mean abandoning his duties and work, but that would make sense. I'm not familiar with what it's like getting a new job as a yakuza, but it does sound improbable.I do get what you mean about Ergo's character development, and again, it's because I haven't read the first volume (and probably won't) that I don't have a deeper context on the decision to focus more on his characterization in this arc. His deal about memory loss and being forced to attain powers on someone else's behalf very much mirror KnK; maybe I can get a better appreciation for his character on later reads with all of this in mind (and maybe reading the first volume, too....).
Yukinobu is also from a family that hasn't abandoned the arcane like Ryougi. The later of which are more normal relatively and Ryougi's just living the dream with her normie husband. It's honestly bullshit that bitch got her wish, normal life and wants for nothing basically. She's like the only character who grew out of the chuuni setting. >>47223512I don't keep tabs on VN translations but I really don't understand the point of censoring them. People on twitter might get mad at you? They aren't going to read it anyway. If anything, have some fake ass controversy will boost sales. I vaguely remember some western game going viral because it had implied incest or something and that's just your average day in eroge.
>>47223559the coffin of andy and leyley.
>>47223559Most of the time the fault is with the localization and the devs don't care about the foreign market so we get these pozzed translations. Surely you have noticed them in both the manga and anime medium as well
>>47223604So the conclusion to draw here is that localizers tend to be ideologues? Does anybody have any theories on why this even happens? I mean in my mind, it's a clear contradiction. VNs/eroge are one of the most artistically free/independent storytelling mediums out there. There's a lot of things you can do in an eroge that would probably not be OK in some other medium. I guess a localizer doesn't necessarily have to be an eroge fan or such but you'd think they would at least be in tune with the culture to some extent. Of course, I'm not defending censorship for manga/anime but at least sometimes it makes some logical sense like when there's a high normalfag audience for a series.
In the alleyway Tsukihimates translated Shiki's lines as "Every part of me wants her" and then linked the following to him. "My tears, my lust, my impatience, my blood etc". Official ascribes it all to Arc. "I want all of her"-> her tears, her desire, her frustration, her blood etc.
>>47223547>You see the Vlov fight say his wave in Arc route was absolute Zero but the official says it was close to it. TmatesThis one triggered me. Blatantly downplaying Vlov like that.

Translating isn't perfect and I think it's the best TM translation (officially). But I think the fantl is better. Especiall in passing along sentiment or information probably because it's more longwinded. Being succint and brief is good and all but that's the downside. It also hurts the weight at times. Like going with "failed human" or fuckup is certainly a choice. I think the former is better. It may sound more odd to some but I think it adds some meaning to the distinction between Arc as a weapon and what has happened to her in her now human transformation. Seems like the official TL flows better by taking certain liberties, with the usual and slice of life scenes, while the fan TL handles the technical and esoteric scenes much better and tries to retain the supposed original nuance and meaning.Overall, I prefer the fan TL but I'm glad the official TL is handled well.
