does anyone know if the pure neemo bocchi hair is interchangeable? I was gonna buy a milo doll on ebay, but someone else bought her before me.... I wanted her to be my first doll, bocchi was my second choice to be honest.....
>>

sorry, I really drunk and I wanna cry, I'm sorry everyone
>>
Where's a good place to buy Dollfie Dream clothes? There was this Taobao shop I used to go to but they're gone or region locked.
>>
>>47797140
Oh anon, it's okay, don't feel bad. What's the full name of the doll you wanted to adopt? I'll go see if I can find another one online somewhere. It's going to be okay, I promise! Pure Neemos have rooted hair (that is, not a wig you can take off,) but you can learn to reroot hair if you want a project. One thing at a time.
>>
>>47797163
DD stuff can be found most anywhere. ACBJD's prices are at par with most of their taobao equivalents, there are still Etsy sellers who actually handmake their clothes instead of reselling aliexpress goods, and so on. Looking for anything in particular?

I found her on buyee, but only paired with another doll and im.not allowed to buy her for some reason, if someone wants to help I'd be very very happy
>>
okay, sorry for being annoying guys. I found her on Solaris japan and overpaid for her. I couldn't stand the idea of buying anyone else. I bought the 1/6 Pure Neemo Alvastaria Milo - From the Underpass of Winter doll. when she comes, I'll take her somewhere beautiful and share her with everyone. Thanks to anon for being so nice to me, I still have tears on my face but I feel so safe now.
>>

Pure neemos are very cute, good choice anon!

>>47797163
Anywhere. I mostly buy from booth.pm sellers
>>
>>47797234
I didn't realize solaris sold dolls, I'm glad you found her though.
>>
>>47797178
I was working on a nezuko but the aliexpress seller stopped selling the other clothes parts besides the kimono that was on my maybe list, but overall just wanna browse.
>>
>>47797185
It's okay to be sad anon, don't feel bad. Milo has always been a pain to track down, my search for the opposite version (black hair) took me more than a year. I'm very glad you could find the doll that stole your heart! I was just digging through listings -- POD032-MWT is the item code for anyone else that wants to track down a Milo of their own.

>>47797360
Secondhand ebay listings, small etsy shops, mercari jp (en in the states, too,) aliexpress sometimes, taobao via a proxy, and tons of little one-off jp shops... there are a ton of options. Facebook marketplace as well for anyone that has one of those, or a friend willing to look on your behalf. Instagram used to be the community storefront, but since they fucked tags I don't know where people relocated to.
>>
>>47797012
she is so cute...
>>
>>47794978
you can get super glue debonder, and that might work on getting it out. but I think you should accept that the chest part and arm peg are one and take a drill bit to the whole thing.

>>47797132
pure neemo hair is rooted to the head cap, but you can buy different rooted caps. blank caps i dont know about.

>>

it just depends honesty look at list of name and see witch one fit or fell right to you.

I picked a nationality for them first, then used a name generator for that until I gor close to something I liked. Then refined more until it clicked, or I was just watching Darby O'gill and the Little People when I built her.

I have a bunch of names from decades of playing MMOs so I have a bunch I can pick from when I inevitably start buying dolls (I do one day want to make dolls for all my characters but that would cost so damn much)
this guy >>47801918 has the right idea. Most of my MMO characters got their names from generating for hours and hours on that site and doing slight tweaks to make the names sound even better.
>>
>>47803835
forever doll. this is my first time customizing a head, made a drawing of how i want it to look like. didnt know what to do with the imomo body that was collecting dust after switching to DD, so decided to make a custom for the fun of it while i wait for a mdd to come in.
>>
>>47803962
Making the faceups is probably my favorite part of the hobby.

>>47801285
Its mostly a combination of kanji or music artists I like. The name, personality, and other character designs all went hand in hand in their design leading to their final faceup.
>>
>>47803497
i like the horns, but she is cute without them too! are they held on with magnets? maybe you could stack extra magnets inside her head or something, for better grip?

Momoko is so unique. Can she see alright with just two eyes not covered by her bangs?

I wanted to bring one or more dolls along and take photos, but the risk of damage, weight (somewhat), and most importantly space in a long canoe trip made that seem like not a great idea.

>>
>>47811542
It's nice to see two of my pictures in there, but I'm guessing there won't be many more of those going forward because I've been a lazy piece of shit for the last few years.
>>
>>47814433
Laziness doesn't exist in the way people assume it does. Circumstance, health and illness, and many other factors go into one's ability to perform a task, even one they otherwise enjoy. Be kind to yourself, anon -- you are doing just fine just by being. Your dolls will wait for you... it's one of the best things about this hobby.

>>47811040
I rarely say this but anon I want your doll. She's perfect in every way, from faceup to styling. Phenomenal lady you've shared with us all.

>>47813594
Red is the classic, brown can give a foresty vibe, blonde can be quite elegant, while black can look mysterious... what sort of personality do you envision for this doll? Let that be your guide!
>>
>>47811618
Anon's been compiling year collages of /bjd/ dolls for a while now, since before the calendar project started.
>>
>>47812499
People more likely just fell out of the hobby, or posting pictures to these threads. Most everyone left their houses that year and all the extra cash dried up. Looking back at the older collections, there isn't much overlap between the years.

Though looking at 2021 specifically, I can see the amount of dolls to anons going up. Stick around in the hobby long enough and dolls start multiplying. Did it just work out that the amount of pictures worked out to around 112, or did some missed/left out to keep the 8x14 grid?

>>47813594
Some shade of red/brown is the most common, and maybe overdone, combo. A yellowy blonde works as seen with Lily Saber and Red Saber. Purple and orange contrast pretty strongly against green.

>>47814918
What was the first year they started with?
>>
>>47811542
My girl made it into this one and It's giving me a proud parent sensation. I recognize a doll on the bottom row, I think her nickname was 'Business Brooke', her owner would make threads on /b/ and post pictures of her years ago. How nostalgic, I hope that anon is well

>>
>>47811618
As anon said, two separate projects.

>>47814433
Not sure which ones are yours but just take your time. I'm happy to know some of you are still around.

>>47815256
Started with 2017. This grid is actually 8x13, only 2018 was bigger this far. I'm not removing dolls if they fit my criteria. I've been mainly adjusting with group pics. Can't guarantee I'm not missing a few though.

>>47816447
That's the kind of doll lore I crave for.
>>
>>47811542
How fun, is there a place I can see the previous collages?
>>
>>47816989
She's one of the first BJD I had ever seen before getting into the hobby myself. I would always click on those /b/ threads when I saw them for the cute doll pictures. A shame I didn't think to save any of them

>>47813594

>>47820131
its pretty much just the missysimaginings ones but they are a bit annoying as most dont have images to even show what they look like, but i have made a few things based on those. i have tried using real scale patterns as well as 1/4 minifee patterns and scaling up to my required 1/3, but not everything fits properly. minifees and irl clothes have shorter legs
>>
>>47820063
How do you get your photos so fucking crisp
>>
>>47820283
They're not really anything special; my camera is a modest d3400, 35mm, 1/200 shutter, f/2, one flash behind me to the left one to the right both bouncing off the ceiling, darktable history looks like this. Most of the other things are default settings except for exposure and filmic rgb which just gave me the histogram as shown.

>>
>>47820552
Not that anon, but I usually don't bother with my tripod either. I admire everyone who takes the time to set up technical shoots because I am a gremlin with a camera, a doll, and a vague concept.
>>
>>47820621
I'm terrible at setting up lighting so I'd just use a tripod and long exposure times.
>>
>>47820473
If you need a tripod for a 1/200th second shot you might want to get that shaking checked out

Hi everyone I am a newbie and I wanted to get a SugarCups doll since they are cute and cheaper than dollfie MDD, I am in Japan so I can access Japanese stores in person or order online, does anyone know where I can buy one ? I went to Akiba but the Azone store didn’t have them in stock : (

Any help would be appreciated !!
>>
>>47821390
I don't know if their physical store has any, but you could try a retailer like AmiAmi. They list a few online as well: https://slist.amiami.jp/top/search/list?s_keywords=SugarCups+&submit_btn=&pagemax=60
>>
>>47821415
I didnt see any, I will try tomorrow again. I will go to AmiAmi in akiba and then if there none ask directly at Azone store if they have stock in any other of their stores.

if no one knows any place where they are available that is here
>>
>>47821456
There's an Azone shop in Akihabara, Osaka, Nagoya, and Ikebukuro. Given their seasonal release schedule, you might have more luck calling around to Mandarake and seeing if anyone has any -- I can't remember which one has the most doll stuff, but possibly Nakano Broadway? Not as familiar with the physical AmiAmi locations, but another avenue you can try if you are residential or staying for a longer period of time is Yahoo Japan Auctions or Mercari -- if you are physically in Japan for a while, it's a pretty solid option.

Good luck anon! Sorry I can't be of more help.

thx, I checked Mandarake and it seems to be available even unopen !! but they all seem to have this package damaged tag, idk what they mean by that idk if it is serious damage or not. guess I will have to go in person and see for myself. I will try to check on Azone Akihabara if they have new ones on any other of their stores if not I will go to mandarake in person and check the condition of the box, they seem pretty cheap so either a goldmine or its bad bad damage idk I hope for the best
>>
>>47822787
otherwise I will probably try yahoo japan since they seem to have tons of them there but as always it is always a gamble in those types of sites so I will try my hardest to get one SugarCups in person
>>
>>47822787
Serious package damage is almost always just a crushed or dented corner.
>>
>>47822914
ahhh okay nice nice, glad. ill probably say something tomorrow how it went
>>
>>47822787
>but they all seem to have this package damaged tag
They always say that for second-hand goods. 99% of the time the box is perfect or has minor damage that you wouldn't even notice. Are those listings in physical store locations? You could probably just go to the store and see it in person before you buy it then.
>>

I went looking for a doll-sized tent (searching for pet tents on amazon for example) and eventually ended up finding this one from tinytents.com. The measurements on their site said 47 x 47 cm so I thought it would be perfect for a MDD. But that measurement is actually from the tips of the poles, which makes sense I guess. The tent itself is only 42cm at the bottom, and it tapers as it goes up of course. So a MDD can't comfortably fit inside it normally; though she does diagonally, but that's a weird way to sleep in a tent. It's still a good size for an external prop as in pic related. They have three color options for this model, and they also have a "base camp" model that's a little bit bigger, but it doesn't look much like a standard 1-2 person tent.

>>47828651
From Alice's Collections. It is under their dollfie dream outfits catorgory.
>>
>>47828652
I was looking into this recently too. I couldn't find anything remotely usable for DD size, but 1/6th size dolls would work with some of the store display tents. They seem to be sized for the rare 1/5 dolls. Very cute Tiara.

This is the best thing I've found so far. It's expensive, but keep an eye on it around fall -- they tend to go on clearance. It's honestly a bit big, especially for MDD, but at least it actually looks like a tent. There are some AG (and other 18" doll) tents, but aside from vintage American Girl they're very hit-or-miss. Of them, Journey Girl or Our Generation tend to have the better-looking props, and that scale works much better for MDD (and other 1/4 scales) in comparison.

It's really cool that the books are full because you can pose them with it open to specific pages.

Hey everyone I ended up going with a Dreamin 1/6 doll this one: https://www.azone-int.co.jp/azonet/item/4573199841700

Since I’m a newbie I think it is better to go with a cheaper and bigger model instead of going straight for SugarCups, since SugarCups is only available on second hand or as new but all of them are limited editions their price was the double or more of the 1/6 Dreamin ones so yeah.

I also got a stand, some clothes and a set of school chair and table and all of this still cheaper than a SugarCups doll haha and better to gain experience with a cheaper doll and later on think about more expensive ones, no rushing

Btw I want to eventually get a custom made head online, I searched on booth and yahoo auctions but didn’t find what I was looking for maybe I’m searching it wrong ? Does anyone here have a link of a search for Azone 1/6 S doll heads that are custom made like already made by someone else with talent ? Any help is appreciated

I also wanna start taking pictures of course but I only have an iPhone 15 I hope it’s enough and I need go get better at taking pictures I would say I’m okay but I have no idea about custom stuff like ISO, apertures and what not.

Any tips regarding the doll I got, pictures or anything else is appreciated : D

Also what is the place that is the most active for doll community like website to take pictures, ask stuff and hang out ? : )
>>
Oh and I will post pics of the haul but later when I get home

What a cute girl, welcome to the hobby anon! You picked wonderfully. Best thing you can do with regards to photos is just start taking them with whatever tool you have, your phone is fine. Play around with settings, posing, angles, and don't worry about making it "good", just go have fun and try new things. You'll figure it out along the way, I promise.

As for combing YJA for stuff, honestly... I can't recommend thee way I always find listings (go to the doll section, sort by highest price, and work backwards from there.) I will say that custom Azone things are exceptionally uncommon and it's possible none are listed right now (I'm looking, no dice.) For something like that it may be easier to find a faceup artist you like (and can afford) and commission them to make you a head in the style you enjoy. This is time-consuming and troublesome in some respects, but it will provide the best overall outcome in return! Beyond that, maybe try booth.pm as well? I see doll stuff crop up there once in a while. アゾン (AZONE) is the general brand name and should bring things up if you navigate to the doll section. カスタムヘッド is katakana for "custom head" and might also bring up some results. If you know the name of a particular head mold you like, searching for that might be helpful, too.

Someone else will have to confirm this because I only have experience with Pure Neemo, but are Parabox/Obitsu and Azone parts fairly compatible? If so, looking for custom Obitsu heads might also serve you well! I do see those come up once in a blue moon, and I will look for those next when I'm done with this search. I confess I'm out of the loop on current trends due to my present circumstances, but hopefully that will change in the near future, and I can go back to buying overpriced toys.

Finally, the most active doll forum is a toss-up between Doll Dreaming and Den of Angels. For vinyl anime-style dolls, the former is probably your best bet for finding a community!

>>47829424
I've never worn them but for dolls they'd be a nice change of pace from tennis shoes, boots, and pumps.

Regarding this, I thought of another shop- Dollyteria!
https://www.dollyteria.com/product-list?num=50&img=160&available=1&keyword=%E3%81%8A%E3%81%B3%E3%81%A4%E3%80%80%E3%82%AB%E3%82%B9%E3%82%BF%E3%83%A0%E3%83%98%E3%83%83%E3%83%89&Submit=%E6%A4%9C%E7%B4%A2
I am not sure if this search will be useful for you, but if Azone and Obitsu have some parts compatibility beyond Pure Neemo this will give you more options to work with. As you can see the quality ranges from "overpriced" to "hideous" to "actually pretty cute", so you might have to do some searching, but hopefully this helps.

I'm happy to help where I can. There are some doll specific channels but they tend to focus on customization over photography. Some principles of portrait and model photography carries over to thee doll space, though not as much as you would think, I've realized- much of it is focused on minimizing human flaws and emphasizing their strengths, but doll bodies aren't nearly so malleable and fickle -- still, some basics are always good to pick up. Izabela Kwella released a book of Doll Photography back in '22 -- she works mostly on Barbies, but there were some interesting concepts and shoots there, it might be a good place to start if you can find a copy. I think Orchid Dolls has also posted some guides/tips/etc on her website, but I may be misremembering... the anons /here/ (myself included) should compile a document on this at some point, I think. There's a wealth of knowledge here, too. But more than anything else, just piddling around and trying new things will teach you plenty to mull over, especially since you're just starting out, and even moreso because you've picked out such a cute doll to photograph!

Have fun on your journey!
>>
>>47829669
Thank you so much !! Too kind

Oh yeah I am also looking into travel bag for my doll so I can take pictures outside in good scenery, I found this one https://item.rakuten.co.jp/my-heroine/128/?variantId=2143 but idk if the C size (c: 50×16cm (for dolls around 45cm)) is too big for mine or if there are cheaper options. Azone store didn’t seem to have any at least I didn’t find any there so I think my best bet is getting a travel bag online.
>>
>>47829696
A similar product (possibly identical? The parts all seem the same.) is also available on eBay for quite a bit cheaper, so there are definitely more options. By chance do you have one of the 1/6 Azone dolls? I was in the market for a bag for that size as well.
>>
>>47829696
I'm using a cat bag for my azone iris collect petit it works to be completely honest with you
>>
>>47829910
yea mine is 1/6 Azone, I got an idea I will just get a flute carrying case that is waterproof, should work and be cheaper

>>47829927
ah haha I see
>>
>>47829976
ordered this one it should fit fine and seems waterproof enough in worst case scenario I put the bag inside my backpack, https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/J-MICHAEL-FLB-201-Michael-Flute-C-Feet/dp/B003U61DC0/

>>47829910
I will let you know how it is when I get it (21 of September) but I think getting a flute bag is a pretty solid option just be careful not to get one where it has a flute mold inside cause that wont let the doll fit unless it is removable but it's best not to gamble on it and just get one without flute mold

Any plans on adding basic search functionality , filtering, sorting (at least by upload date), and tagging? I'm sure there's probably some frontend JS library that could handle most of this for you.
>>
>>47835492
Nah, it's just a bog standard gallery that I save images to. Tagging and filtering would require an actual database and someone to maintain it, and I just don't have the time for that. It's already sorted newest-to-oldest by modification date on the filesystem, a toggle to do it oldest-to-newest is something I could potentially add.

Your OC is very cute anon, is her name Sheetan?

This will not be cheap in any direction, but... tentatively, I would say a 1/6 Obitsu/Parabox or Azone doll might be the best to try and jerry rig this girl together from spare parts, because this size of doll has a ton of unintentional compatibility with props from other doll lines -- that's my best thought at trying to find scale armor -- and even if you can't find a sword that fits, just going up a scale should give the "bigass sword" effect. (Look into letter openers, unironically. Themed letter openers can be great doll swords.)

If you want to get a custom that will take a lot of the hassle of finding pieces and assembling her bit-by-bit over time, commissioning someone to make her from scratch will be the most expensive but least stressful option. Typically, these are made from 1/4 MDDs, so she would be considerably larger. Currently I know Shines Workshop will take these complex commissions, but it will be more than the cost of one of /ona/'s wives to make that happen. It would be more cost-effective to assemble her as you would the aforementioned 1/6 doll: source parts from all around the internet and slowly put her together. There are creators who specialize in almost anything you can imagine for 1/4-scale MDDs, and if you're willing to import from Japan, you will find armor easily enough. It might not be a perfect 1:1 recreation, but it will get close enough. You could do a sort of piecemeal approach of commissioning some people for key features, and simply buy others as you find them, too.

The third option is to start learning to craft things yourself. This is, understandably, a daunting concept on its face, and will necessitate you getting comfortable with a period of time in which you have ideas but not necessarily the knowledge or skill-set to execute them. But that can be good to experience, in its own way, and nothing is more rewarding than learning to make something with your own two hands. In this avenue, you will select the body you want (I will suggest something 1/4-scale (Obitsu, Dollfie Dream, Azone et al) because I imagine sewing at 1/6-scale is even harder,) and slowly create her from there. Some things will be easy- you could easily get a blonde wig and then braid and style it yourself! (Hell, you can learn to make wigs outright if you like!) Some things will be more challenging, like learning to paint her face and sew a simple undershirt to wear below her armor. If you're into 3D printing, you could make, print, and prepare her armor yourself -- or you could sculpt them out of clay or another material. This will be the hardest method, and probably the slowest, but it will save you considerably compared to commissioning someone to do this work on your behalf.

You can mix and match any and all of these approaches. Buy her undershirt from a similar-looking sweater on Etsy, commission someone to do her faceup, but sculpt her armor yourself! I can see why it's overwhelming... freedom to choose how we bring something to life tends to be. But whether you offload that work to someone else, assemble her from carefully-sourced parts over time, or take on the challenge of making her from scratch, I think you will enjoy the journey just as much as the destination. Good luck!

Yep, here's her promo shot, total cutie.

I don't have a body for her yet, I'll probably bite the bullet and order a new dds for her in the next couple of days. I was hoping to find something a little less pricy but it seems like most non volks vinyl bodies are mdd size.

Hey guys do I need to buy these ? I’m confused, she didn’t come with any hair ties. Also putting shoes on is hard who would’ve thought loll, and I needed to improvise so I am using a toothbrush to brush her hair for now, once I’m in Osaka I’ll go to Azone to get a brush from them it’s like 1 dollar so yea no biggie.

The flute bag is here, my thoughts on it as of now are, plenty of space horizontally and vertically, it has a nice external vertical pocket which allows me to fit items like her school bag, hair thingies and my toothbrush and can fit more it’s nice, overall I’d say 8/10 the interior is very soft and neat my only complaint is that I thought it would have more depth but giving some thought it is a good thing since the doll remains in place and doesn’t move around inside since the depth fit is a tight fit but doesn’t hurt the doll at least from what I’ve noticed. I would like the external pocket to have more space to put things more deeply into it, for example my doll’s school bag barely fits because the external pocket is the vertical size of the bag and goes from top to bottom but it is like only half of the bag horizontally it stops mid way from right to left of the bag, idk if I’m making sense. I will take some pictures later of the flute bag when I get back home. I’m taking her out currently, going to see some temples and hope I can manage to take some pics of her there.

Also idk if I might just post the pics on the doll forum and link it here but people seem to think it’s a bad idea to share socials of your dolls here so idk ? Thoughts anons ?

Anyway I’ll be back : )

It’s me again : )
I went to Bessho Onsen today, to see some temples (try to take some pics of my doll there) and to go to a hot spring.
The weather was nice since it was cloudy, instead of sweating uncontrollably it was fine, Japanese summer even if it’s at the end of it is no joke haha
The temple where I took the pictures of her is called 北向観音 鐘楼 ( I tried translating the name but only got nonsense), if you wanna see it better aka without just being my doll just google it, it’ll show up right away : )
Lastly, I wanted to take a pic of my doll holding the praying rope that rings the bell at the temple but my friend said it was cringe and didn’t help me : ( I really need to make doll friend real life to travel around and take pics and stuff.

Here are the pictures of the doll that I took:

I’m very happy with it, very light, looks good, and since the doll fits nicely it doesn’t move around and stays in place could be better if the external pocket had more space as you can see.

I'd recommend sticking to only a few photos at a time honestly. I know it's easy to end up taking lots of them, but treat this as an exercise to improve at photography! Dolls are great since you can take your time to re-adjust and experiment with poses and scenes, but at the same time just spamming lots of random photos all at once is kinda trying to gamble on people liking them. Try to be selective instead and think about what makes one photo better than the other, like what framing and composition either tells a story or helps highlight a particular aspect of your doll

And about your friend, just ignore them and pose your doll anyway. If you don't get over that kind of negative feedback, you'll be heavily restricted on the kinds of photos you can get. Many of the best photos are of dolls playing around in the environment looking almost as if they were alive

Her name is Ria-chan actually but thank you so much for the massive advice!
I think an Obitsu sounds like the most affordable choice right now
i do eosh i could get a dollfie or smart doll for the highly detailed tummies and chests tho but i can compromise

I heard heads are easy to fit on most bodies, so is it okay to just shop wherever for the head i really like?

Alrighty, I will try to keep it clean : )
I will probably still take a lot haha to experiment with angles, modes, distance and whatever but I will post like 2 or 3 at a time, my favorite ones.
I used to do small stop motion videos with legos when I was little haha might try and get back to it but with my doll, seems like a fun idea of something to do.

I modeled and printed a head, currently trying to figure out how to do her faceup, but I bought a stock body instead of printing my own. I used blender to make the model. I dont have a tablet so I used the "push vertices around on a low res model with a crapton of subdivision modifiers" method instead of sculpting the head.
If you plan to print an entire doll I'd definitly suggest you start with that free model that's around (Polaris it's called I think?) and make your own changes little by little. You will run into so many problems along the way and if you'd start from scratch you'd probably give up before finishing the doll.

She's cute anon, and your photos are really nice. I'd get some kind of white cloth or towel to wrap her in while she's in the flute bag to prevent staining from that red lining. I don't know how prone azone 1/6 dolls are to staining since they're harder plastic than vinyl dolls, but so are nendoroid dolls and they definitely stain.

I'm >>47848997. I just want to say I don't think anyone would mind a spam of cute doll pics here (at least I wouldn't)! Though I guess I can see the other anon's point, too, about sticking to a few in certain cases if a lot of the photos are very similar (like a couple of yours were basically the same but zoomed in for example). I can also see how it would be easier for a poster to just mass-upload to catbox instead of posting one at a time here, so I understand your reasoning. The body is PVC and the head is vinyl as far as I know. But here got a white undershirt at Family Mart, they didn’t have white towels so this will have to do. (Pic attached)
Now she has been mummified successfully

Need more details on what didn't look good. Is it an out-of-focus issue? Too bright or too dark? Off color? There are a lot of things that could have gone wrong

I'm gonna guess that it's an out-of-focus issue since that's usually the most common one that you can't tell at a glance from the in-camera display. You should be using focus peaking when working in manual mode and learn how to get things perfectly sharp. It takes a bit of practice, but it'll benefit you a lot in the long run. If you're using auto-focus mode and your camera has a touch screen, it probably has a AF by touch area mechanism that you should take full advantage of. You should also enable head/eye/human detection if available since dolls are usually pretty compatible with the detection algorithm.

If it's a too dark/light issue, then enable the histogram. Read up on what that graph means and adjust your shots and exposure as needed: https://photographypro.com/histogram/

And then in general, shoot in RAW if you aren't already. Many photos aren't perfect, but RAW will allow you to salvage many of them in say Lightroom to look very nice

Past that, things depend a lot on your gear and skill, mostly the latter. Practice practice and practice to get good shots

hey I am trying to get into this hobby but the sheer amount of brands and doll scales frightens me. From the tutorial docs I have read, I am interested in getting either 1/4 or 1/6 size, which are produced by AZONE and Dollfie right?

and after reading some posts here, I think the DD line has more customization option? Do I just pop into whatever DD partner store and purchase the base body right away? or are there any cheaper alternatives for MDD bodies?

since I am going to purchase just the base body, next is custom head from either mandarake or yahoo, yes?

for outfits and wigs, is booth.pm safe? or are there any other recommendations?

It's actually insanely easy to accidentally find someone's Instagram. When you sign up (at least for newer accounts), you have to link your phone number. By default, Instagram will suggest your account to both people in your contacts AND people who have you in their contacts, so don't think removing someone from your contact list will save you. You need to manually turn that setting off. Same with your email address, although that one is less impactful. You can use a Google Voice number with no problem, which is what I do. You just need to remember to use the number every 90 days, but Google Voice will remind you anyway. Lastly, this applies to pretty much every social media platform including Twitter, so when you make an account, make sure the first thing you do is fix your privacy settings.

>>47854723
Azone is a brand. Dollfie is a line produced the company Volks. There are many other dolls in that scale, so don't rush things. Take your time to explore your options. There are no cheaper alternatives for any specific body because they are produced by that company (in the same way that there is no cheaper alternative to a specific brand of clothing), however, there are other companies that make bodies. Compatibility is so-so. The combination of different companies for your head and body is called hybriding in this hobby. Some people love to do it, me personally it's too much hassle. I would rather buy less to buy exactly what I want. For clothing and wigs, Dollfie Dream dolls are very easy to shop for. Booth is safe, and you have a variety of options everywhere from Etsy to Taobao to the official Volks store and all these random cool tiny shops with their own sites. I think if you like the dress up part of the hobby the most and you can't really tell the difference between one body and another or just don't care, Dollfie Dream dolls in both the 1/3 size and the 1/4 size are excellent starting points.
>>
>>47854636
Yea mostly out of focus but is often a combo of noise and blurriness. Enabling the histogram graph is already helping a lot. I think I need to practice and nail down a single shooting conditon and iron out my basics before trying to be all fancy with lighting and env.
>>
I had no idea MDD was bigger than a 1/6 doll I feel so dumb haha but to be fair the name Mini should be Mini !!

>Just follow normal privacy practices such as hiding your actual identity
Not him but it's so hard to do now. I dropped out of my last attempt at Twitter/Instagram when I was forced to give them my phone number
>hello we locked your account because of "suspicious activity" now give us your phone number :^)
How the hell is this not illegal? You can register with your email but then they hold your account hostage to extort more information from you
And once they had my phone number they notified everyone who had my number on my contact list that I had made an account, without my permission. It doesn't even matter if you hide your number, everyone who has it in his contacts gets notified.
I think the same happens with Telegram or Discord. Internet platforms have become so insanely invasive and you can't do anything about it. I don't understand in what kind of clown world we live where it's OK that your dentist or your ex will get notified of your movements just because they happen to have your number in his contacts.
>>
>>47854723
It's only as deep as you want it to be anon. The guide goes heavily into the details, but a standard off the shelf doll is perfectly fine and you should probably start there instead of trying to immediately create a completely customized doll from the start. That way you can learn what you like or dislike and then figure out what you want to work towards. Otherwise you'll probably end up wasting a lot of money trying to "get it right" on the first go when you later realize that you actually wanted something else. Especially when it comes to custom heads since those can end up being much more expensive than the body itself

The only real initial choice you need to make is just your preferred size. For Volks, Dollfie Dream is the more mature teen/young adult type and Mini Dollfie Dream is the younger sister type. And on the other side Azone's 50cm and 45cm dolls are the rough equivalents. I know that the MDD and Azone 45cm dolls can share clothing types, so it's pretty easy to find clothes for them. But I think the Azone 50cm doesn't share sizing with DD, so you'd have to buy Azone specific clothing or vice versa. It's generally not that hard to find compatible clothes and wigs in any case

This is why I mostly stick to here. That, and the funny thing about living in a place where cellphones don't work: I literally have to go out if I want to receive a text confirmation, many of which are time-sensitive. It's not worth the trouble. I am fortunate that for anything actually important, I can ask a friend to pick up the text for me, at least... I hate how always-online things are these days, and the expectation that everyone and their dog is able and willing to keep that connection.

>>47854723
Deep breaths anon! For 1/6, Azone and Parabox (Obitsu) are your best bet as a beginner. For 1/4, Mini Dollfie Dreams, produced by the company 'Volks', are the most common and accessible. Azone and Obitsu also have dolls in this scale, but they are less easy to find. All of them offer complete dolls you can buy directly, or individual parts if you want to customize them. There is no wrong answer, and you should get what makes you happy. There's no rush and you could, and should, take all the time you need to be confident in your decisions before buying what's in you cart.

>>
>>47854723
>the sheer amount of brands and doll scales frightens me
oh boy... and you haven't seen resin
the simplest breakdown is this:
VOLKS > DD ~60cm and MSD ~40cm
SMART DOLL > the Apple of dolls ~60cm
OBITSU > makes a ton of different bodies from action figure size to life size that a lot of Japanese companies use as a base, e.g. Azone, Visuadoll, all use some form of Obitsu body, often modified.
There are a couple odd cases here and there like TinyFox which is a Chinese manufacturer who make their own thing.
Take note about certain key things you want e.g. if a doll has painted eyes (instead of sockets where you stick actual eyes) or rooted hair (= can't change the wig). I personally think these two things are a dealbreaker because changing wigs is fun and real eyes have way more depth.
If you are entering the hobby because you want an officially licensed doll of your favorite character e.g. Shinju Sakamura from Ex vs. X: Sakura reDUX 2 then prepare to shell way more money than reasonable.
You can buy things anywhere doll clothes are sold (you don't have to buy off one site specifically) and you usually have measurements listed so you can see if what you're buying will fit your doll. Vendors use shorthand for what they sell e.g. OB48 means it will fit Obitsu 48cm bodies. DD or SmD mean respectively Dollfie Dream or Smart Doll, DDy means the Dynamite body with giant booba and so on. So when you get a doll just take note of that kind of shorthand to look for (or the shorthand used for the doll size whose measurements are the closest to your own doll) and you're going to be fine in most cases.

When it comes to size consider that vinyl dolls are quite light so you won't have to worry about weight but there's a lot of difference between 1/4 and 1/6. More so than 1/4 and 1/3 which are both "big" (1/3 is much bigger than 1/4). 1/6 is not the same as 1/4 and it will feel more like a slightly bigger action figure. Also whatever you do, you are always better off spending/saving more money if that means getting something you're in love with, rather than going for something cheap just because it's cheap. Because that will most likely disappoint you.

thanks for the insights, very helpful.
I guess I'll go with 1/4 scale then (40cm?) because of accessories availability.

I have no interest in licensed character dolls so instead let's say I already decided on a custom head from mandarake/yahoo/whatever, and it is a DDH head, can I attach it to non DD body such as parabox 40cm body? I can't find 40cm obitsu body on their website though so I'll just assume they don't have it.

and next, should I cheap out on the body by getting parabox body? or play it safe and pay extra 1万円 and get the MDD body?
there are no bjd purists who will yell slurs at me for attaching DDH onto parabox body right?
I don't really care about the body as long as clothes and accessories are compatible on it.

>>47865764
There are a few ways to go about it. One would be a headband with horse ears, which you could fabricate with cloth and wire (or other materials.) Another option would be to sculpt some and attach them with small, strong magnets on the outside and inside of the head. While I haven't personally seen horse ears for sale, I have no doubt that someone, somewhere, is making them due to the popularity of Uma Musume. I've been mad that that anime isn't about centaur girls since I first learned about it.

Don't use an identifying name here anon, it's not the culture of this sort of community. Usernames, here, are used mostly in special situations -- for example, setting a specific name (and 'tripcode' -- a unique identifier) if you're leaking video game footage early and want to avoid people co-opting your current identifier to spread false information. Generally speaking, and particularly /here/, there's no need to identify yourself in such a way -- since dolls are so individualized as it is, it's not hard to recognize someone who's posted before. It might seem strange if you come from other parts of the internet (on that note, how did you wind up here, anyway?,) but people here generally find peace of mind in being another face in the crowd.

I'm trying to order wig for my doll and I'm not sure what the name would be for the braid would be in pic related.

I know its an accessory for a wig because ive found zelda cosplay wigs that have the braid attached to it but im trying to get a different color. The site I got my wig from only had ponytail extensions and bangs

Got a bunch of cute props from an etsy shop. Beer glasses, iced coffee, lemon water, swiss miss and whipped cream, milkshakes. Really cute. And I found out that DD2-H-17 works really well with holding that tiny glock

bought some cheap 1/6 dolls off of AliExpress. Curious about their quality.

It's not hard to play on the JP servers since Cygames doesn't do IP blocks. I've had an account on there ever since it started up. The interface is pretty easy to understand even if you can't read Japanese and there's many online guides for it. You can even run it on PC with a fan-translation patch if you don't mind going through some extra steps to deal with DMM's region lock

>Went to Kanazawa Garden and Castle
Nice. I went there last year. Was a nice place. I took Tiara there and have a bunch of pictures that I still haven't shared.
>there was too much wind and people to take decent photos of Sakura
Regarding the people, were you just worried about being in their way when shooting photos; or having too many people in the background of your shots... or were you worried about them thinking you're a weirdo for taking pictures of a doll? If it was the latter, don't worry about it. I was that way too, at first. Then I saw another doll owner at the Takehara Shoukei no Michi event who was just carrying his doll around in the open, and seeing that really helped me get over my nervousness. Just a couple days later, I was carrying my doll around Fushimi Inari with a million other people walking around. No fucks given.
>do you guys always take stands
No reason not to. Gives you more options than just sitting poses, unless you want to gamble with balancing her which I still do sometimes even when I have a stand. Tiara actually fell over while I was shooting pic related haha. Gave me a heart attack, but luckily she was okay.
>or should I stick to Anonymous
Yes.

>fell over while I was shooting
I swear when I go it's going to because of a similar situation causing a heart attack.

I will attempt to get a ride... circumstances are not great, but I would like to show up if at all possible. What day would you want to meet up? I imagine Saturday's the one most people will aim for, but I'm presumably flexible.

uhhh yeah saturday sounds fine
but honestly I really haven't thought about it much beyond spending at least one night because of the drive
recent times have not been too kind on my ability to plan ahead
like, I'm supposed to go to a cousin's wedding this weekend and I haven't decided when I'm going or even booked a hotel (everyone else did months ago)

just travel to Japan as vacation, enjoy the country and go shopping. 2 in 1 : D

>>47870200
She so cute !! I'm leaving Kanazawa tomorrow to go to Nagoya but it has been one of my favorite cities so far very neat.

Both being in the way, background of my shots and me stalling and creating unnecessary lines, there were way more people than I expected. I care a bit but not that much since Japan is a peculiar country with lots of peculiar people so they don't care much, but no I am just going to push trough it even if I am self-conscious about it now and then.

alright, I will take it with me just in case, I prefer to gamble since it looks better without the stand but yea can be helpful. wow that's scary ahah glad everything is alright !!

okay

Proper 4chan etiquette: use a name (or trip if you really need to authenticate) temporarily when you're doing something where it's good to have continuity e.g. you're dumping pictures of your dolly trip in Japan and people are asking you questions. This helps keep track of you in the conversation. You take it off when it's over and you're posting regularly.
It's only bad to use a name/trip as if it were a username. That's the idea. Though these days nobody will care or will call you a tripfag even if you're using it properly.
