This thread is for the discussion of anison (anime song), the genre of music made specifically for anime. Whether it be dedicated anime singers, voice actors, idols, as long as the song was made for an anime, it belongs here. Discuss your favorite anison artists and anime songs, and share your events and experiences!

Discussion of doujin music, anikura, idols, seiyuu (outside of their music careers), and mainstream Japanese artists go in their respective threads.

ASCA was really fun live but unfortunately she seemed to have problems maintaining notes. It was like she was running out of breath a lot.

Also disappointed she didn't sing Prime Number, but I expected that. Though I did feel crushed when she called Koe her debut single rather than Prime Number. When we had our autograph session though she seemed really happened when I told her my favorite of hers was Prime Number.

Not sure this is what you're thinking of, but their lead/vocalist Ikkyu Nakajima composed and wrote the second ending of Bocchi the Rock! and also recently had another anime ending for some random isekai under her project SUSU.

When and why did LiSA become so unbearable? I really liked her songs in the early 2010s when she was just Sony's go-to anison singer but today she has taken on this weird sexy image that feels completely out of place and all of her live shows are overproduced and filled with tons of distracting nonsense.

I need to ask this (although I think it is related to the topic of the thread)
How long does it normally take for a song that was released in an opening to be released in its full version on digital media?
I would like to be able to hear Jaka Jaan by C&K & Zeed in full as soon as possible but it is strange that it has been 3 weeks and it is still not available.
>>
>>48091485
It depends. It's faster now, but sometimes it can take up to a month or two.
>>
>>48091485
That's actually the exception now. Most full versions for an OP or ED are now out between the day of the first episode, to at most a week after. I'm not sure when or why the change happened but it started a few years ago, I guess around the time anime music became more available on places like Spotify and Apple Music. Something like the Love Live Superstar OP and ED still not being out is actually very unusual by today's standards.

Mainstream anime always used mainstream artists but you're right about utaite and vtubers taking over anison singers.
>>
>>48206979
"Anison" singers flopped in the terms of dollars it wasn't worth the studios to spend money producing them since "anison" singers don't sell albums. Using utaites and mainstream musicians is the right direction. Look at how popular Otonoke and Taidada are this season.
>>

Utaite might as well be anison singers since they don't have anything bigger for now.

captcha: HASHP
>>
>>48211330
Isn't it common sense?
Among other things, anisong singers typically cater to anime fans. While the anime community is large, it still represents a relatively small portion of the global music market. This niche focus can limit broader commercial success. Anime fans tend to prioritize the anime or character over the individual singer. Anison music is often more associated with the shows themselves rather than the artist, making it harder for singers to break away from the "anime song" category. Additionally, while anime songs are popular, they don't always get airplay on general radio stations or TV programs, which are crucial for broader recognition.

Someone having a LiSA or Aimer situation is one in a million. And honestly, I don't even think they are doing as well as they were some years back.

Because anison singers have no value anymore even if they're talented. They just pop up without really making a name for themselves. The only one that's still worth a damn is JAM Project at this point. Maybe Ooishi Masayoshi.

>they don't always get airplay on general radio stations or TV programs
That's something I never got why either. Only the mainstream ones like Gurenge or Idol do. I know Renai Nou went viral on TikTok but even that is an exception and I don't know if it got airplay outside of Akiba. I doubt a mainstream station would play Shikairo Days.

Is there a stigma in Japan against anison artists? Like if you mainly sing for anime then unless you are LiSA, Aimer, or whoever, you are largely not taken seriously outside of otaku circles? I've been to Japan multiple times and it seems like the regular Japanese off the street doesn't recognize most anison singer names. The worst example of this is when I went to Sapporo, Mami's hometown, some years ago, and almost no one I asked even knew who she was. To think she was obscure even in her own hometown.
>>
>>48216727
I feel like that's why today's anisong singers are primarily from three categories.
Mainstream artists who did not get popular from anisong (Zutomayo, Yonezu, Creepy Nuts, Yoasobi etc)
Seiyuu singing songs from their own anime (Typically used as ED)
Otaku circle artists, whether utaite/vtuber, etc (mafumafu, KAF, Shiyui, 96neko, etc)

Yeah, the days of newbie pure anison artists debuting on a regular basis seem to be long gone now. Even someone like Rei Nakashima is an exception rather than the rule. It seems that many of today's newbie anison singers actually started out as utaite like Asmi, "pure" anison singers like Konomi are a dying breed.
>>
At the rate things are going I have doubts if we will even have that many "pure" anison artists in 10 years or so, when most of the ones active today are already retired. Feels like it's going to be mainstream, semi-mainstream, or utaite artists from here on out. Even Pokemon is using utaite or K-Pop acts now rather than anison singers.

Great cover

Am I getting this right? Most Japanese of a certain generation will recognise CHE.R.R.Y by Yui, most of them not only would not know that Sumire Uesaka covered it, they might not even know who Sumipe is?
>>
The love for mainstream artists is not fair.

This isn't new though. This was Ikimonogakari when they were the biggest thing in the country.
>>
>>48229580
Didn't Ikimonogakari only do very mainstream stuff like Pokemon or some shonen stuff? Not otakucore anime.
>>
As sad as Mami retiring was, she at least got a proper send-off. Most anison artists just disappear quietly.

Come to think about it, next year will be nine years since she retired. I find it so hard to believe that she's been gone that long.

Will be going on a trip so might not be able to post for a week or so.

In which category do you add ReoNa?
I suppose in the second option
>>
>>48325520
ReoNa isn't a seiyuu, and I think she fits category three better even if she started out as a cosplayer.
>>
Was Lisa always popular or is her current fame mostly from kimetsu?
>>
>>48326995
His first hit was undoubtedly Crossing Field for SAO in 2012, but I think he never managed to make another "Crossing Field" many say that the opening of Kimetsu (which I have never heard by the way) is the same or better but for me he simply never managed to get that "magic" again.

Actually her first hit was her work on Angel Beats. She already got popular from then. Even her solo major debut Oath Sign was pretty popular, I actually started following her with that rather than SAO.
