>>48050150I had a hard time in the beginning as well, but my brain got better at memorizing patterns and associating them with letters and meaning. I remember in the first few days, I was literally staring at the same kanji for 5 minutes, trying to engrave it into my brain, and then when I go next and see it again 30 seconds later, I was completely incapable of remembering what kanji it was. Made me feel straight up brain-damaged.
>>48050150Lower it to 10-15, enable FSR and start reading/watching anime with jp subs. You can put it back to 20 or more after you start immersing more because it's easier once you do that>deck >click cog for options >disable reschedule cards on changeJust make sure to click optimise every month or two. >>48050154>>48050152>>48050140Guy trying to learn Japanese here. Is this anki card shit really necessary? English is my second language and I learned it by full immersion, no duolingo or apps like that. A bit of a waste of time imo, learning the concepts or words with no context it's not the same as finding them in REAL material. Then you just try to understand the sentences by yourself by using google translator or asking chatgpt and relating concepts. It's much harder this way, but in the long-term it will make you understand the language more. So I think I will follow the same process to learn japanese.

>>48050150>I only started recently, how many new cards a day should I have?100
>>48050165The main reason people cram shit with Anki is to frontload Kanji in a short span of time so that they can actually get to the part you described, full immersion. It's different when you literally must learn how to read from basically zero all over again. You get a huge head start learning any language that shares your alphabet/reading system, and that makes it feel "easier" to learn those languages since you can indeed just go straight into reading/listening.
>>48050165No and I consider anki to be a meme>don't skip grammar learning>if you want to grind kanji characters, do it through radicals so that they're easier to memorize (such as 海 - sea, 悔 - scorn/despise, 侮 - repent/regret all together for example)>continue consuming media fully in Japanese (mangas with furigana for example)
>>48050150I left it at 20. Once you got through a couple hundred cards and you hit your daily limit, it won't show you new cards.
>>48050165If Japanese wasn't half ching chong it would be a meme.
>>48050165I can definitely say that you will never learn Japanese.
>>48050140The more you learn Japanese the more you realize it's not because of crappy translations, but most of this shit is just not translatable or else it completely looses its meaning or satirical sense. Learning the language is the only way.
Real question: how did the smartest race on earth, the Asians, with a median IQ of 107, manage to create the most retarded written language possible, while simultaneously having the most bare-bones spoken language possible?

Knowing 9,000 words is far more likely to help me comprehend more of the sentence so I can guess/learn more easily for what I don't know, and, to learning words containing Kanji specifically, I am of the opinion that the more vocabulary you learn the easier it gets for your brain to intuit things and form the connections you need to learn even more. If you really want to waste your time, you could set a higher desired retention rate in Anki but that's just going to result in you spending more time reviewing fewer things.

There's plenty of text books, youtube videos, and other guides to basic grammar. Once you've got a decent understanding of the basics of grammer so that you can recognize how sentences are generally formed, you can start learning vocabulary and reading. Granted, the reading you do starting out will be slow as fuck and you'll have to look up what every single word means, but that's how it goes. >>48050345meant for >>48050322
>>48050165Well let's see. People in the past have learned Japanese just fine without Anki. There are probably still lots of people today who learn Japanese without Anki. However you in particular will never learn this language without Anki.
>>48050345>>playing japanes games is not /v/Who was talking about that?
>>48050392you're mom
>>48050306go check out TheMoeWay and start learning nigga.

in what ways will learning japanese and language learning in general will improved in the future?
>>48050531superintelligence will enable us to upload this kind of stuff to our brains like 10-20 years from now
>>48050531who knows. the only way language learning can realistically be improved when ai can measure what you know and don't know using data like flashcards and optimize your reading material to always be 90 percent comprehensibility.
>>48050531optimizing methods for acquisition. basically, speedrunning the language.>detect and cases of language interference and take measure to minimize it>give people ways to disambiguate and select words. you want to say appearance? there will be a chart or something that explains whether to pick 姿, 外見, 外観, 容姿, 容貌, etc.>giving people ways to learn how to handle words or concepts from one language in the other. you say should (expressing an ideal, a prediction one is confident about, advice, etc.) and you'll get ~したほうがいい, ~すればいい, ~すべきだ, etc.unfortunately people aren't too keen on this because helping people learn faster is basically working towards putting yourself out of a job.
I only do 10 new cards a day but on the weekends I do like 30 (thursdays and fridays are also part of my weekend), is this okay? I'm starting to feel like 10 might be too little but it lets me keep my streak
>>48050140I seriously need to get back to anki. When I started learning jap, I literally did all my reps 95% of days, but now whenever I try doing it I just get incredibly sleepy and decided to read manga instead. Even practicing writting is easier for me.
how do you niggas memorize all these runes, while continually adding dozens more a day? ive got the memory of a goldfish and barely remember what i had for lunch
>>48050560it'll be epic when ai gets good at writing good stories tailored to individuals while keeping stuff mostly comprehensible for language learners
>>48050637You can already do that.
>>48050594after you see them a ton you will start recognizing and differentiating thousands of them>>48050642nope ai currently writes like garbage.
>>48050594anki with fsrs turned on and trusting the process
>>48050645You need to learn how to prompt. Give as many details as possible. Examples as well. Style of writing you are aiming for, etc. It won't be "great" but not garbage either.
how can such a case be helped? https://www.reddit.com/r/Epilepsy/comments/1etjbxz/should_i_stop_studying_japanese_if_it_triggers_my/
>>48050486The love live stuff was from the previous owner who left the server and transfered the ownership to some german dude
>>48050594>see 握る>oh it has 扌(tehen), the hand radical on the left. it ends in る too>immediately think of 握手(handshake)>oh yeah it's nigiru, the one that means grab, like when you grab onto the subway handle/strap(取っ手/ハンドル)tl;dr runes are much easier if you already know the words
>>48050728genetically ngmi
>>48050777how to help similar cases like that?
>>48050741>cherry picked kanji kekdo 折角stop trying to convince us you didn't waste your own time.
>>48050816>nooooooooo hard word exist your rule doesn't work 100% of the time, it's all useless reeeeeeeeeeeholy shit talk about つまらぬあら探し. are you gonna bitch about 離れる next?
>>48050848折角、意地、矛盾、逆境、空虚、曖昧、失敗、臆病、挑戦、従事、寛容、契機、複雑、幻滅、悠然、端的. Also talking in partial jp is kinda cringe
>>48050594Grab a pencil and write them down.
How is the android version of Anki? Is it pretty much good enough? I got a nice fresh custom rom'd tablet and I want something to help me learn Japanese. I learned the kanas, now I guess Kanji and Anki are the next steps. Any other suggestions, anon?
>>48050354This was painful to read
>>48050151I'm 35 and just finished n5 bunpro and I'm 1200 deep into Kaishi 1.5k. You make excuses thinking they'll pass, but I exist which proves you wrong.
>>48051159>How is the android version of Anki? It's anki same as any other version, just install it and give it a try.>Any other suggestions, anonGet a beginners text book and work through it. The grammar exercises and explanations will be a huge help. Also don't be afraid to start engaging with native content earlier than you think, while it will be very difficult to begin with and you probably won't get anything but a very rough idea of what's going on it's a great way to stay interested especially as it let's you put what you learn from studying to practical use.
>>48052237the one downside about textbooks is that they shy away from stuff that isn't straightforward. the biggest example is probably は vs が. then you get retards insisting that 私はウナギです means "I'm an eel"
>>48050295Don't you learn 蘇連 in the 6k premade deck? I would not exactly call it useful when you're starting out. Of course you should not exactly care that much about frequency of words because of course you will want to know what the Soviet Union is.
Whenever I tried to learn how to configure anki it seemed like such a hassle, I settled for doing spaced repetition manually with a spreadsheet and a random number generator.
protip: use Twitter to follow your favorite Japanese celebs (artists or cosplayers etc..). It helps getting used to read Japanese sentences due to the nature of the platform (limited texts, casual texting style, etc..).Try to read on 5ch as much as you can, as they talk about tedious stuff all the time just like on 4chan (/pol/ stuff, coomer stuff, etc..).People tend to classify reading difficulty by the amount of rare or jargonic kanjis, or how long the sentences are. Not wholly. How ambiguous the writer's writing style does account for the degree of incomprehensibility. Muv Luv series have a lot of military jargons but the dialogue style is just military talking. Games like Parfait on the other hand tend to make it vague what the characters are talking about, beat around the bush a lot. Hence Parfait is not so easy to read despite its very casual setting and subject matter.
>>48057113You're either joking or severely autistic and retarded.
>>48050140If you are relying heavily on Anki, you're doing it wrong. Also not constantly immersing daily and going back to reading translations in your native language is what ngmi plebs do. You literally can find Japanese translations for anything including western music to help supplement your comprehension.Regardless most people can't learn Japanese and shouldn't waste time on it because it objectively amounts to nothing for anyone (90% of people) who isn't consistent about it daily. Just shut the fuck up and embrace being a MTLpleb instead.
>>48050283Cum fart slurping ceremonies?
>>48050146NOOOOOOO YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE WATCHING REDDITUBERS!ITS THE ONLY GOOD IMMERSION NONONONONONONONONONONONO
>>48062327Do people on /v/ actually think that?
>>48062400I dont know, I havent used /v/ in a long time but I think mods take down jplearning threads fast. modern /jp/ thinks that though. just take a look at the current state of djt
>>48062400/v/ hates vtubers and idol culture
>>48050284>>48050142>>48050144>>48050145>>48050276>>48050283
>>48050140Yes but it's fairly useless desu, I learned 10000x more from reading and listening than I ever did from anki
>>48069103drunk salary men do that shit all the time. what, an african bootyscratcher cant peepee too? do rightwing twitter grifters prefer the taste of jap piss or something?
Can I really trust sentence cards? I worry that I'm just memorizing the cards and not the actual word I'm supposed to learn. My distrust have reached levels where I now just try to ignore the sentence until I think I've got the word, but just the position of the word gives me enough cues.Even some cards I never fail, if you asked me what characters the target word contains, I probably couldn't tell you. When encountering such words during immersion, I don't recognize them.
>>48069509are you retards unironically taking advice from a spam website that no one here endorses
>>48069632What's your recommendation then? Every time I ask about anything I just get answers like "more immersion" "trust the process" but it feels like I'm training my kanji fluency extremely slowly while I can easily remember what the words mean once I hear them or see the furigana, which seems to be backwards from what the JP1K method suggests should be happening.I've only been at it for about a month, so it's possible it'll sort itself out, but it feels bad when I see potential problems and not take action.
Started learning japanese in 2017, used anki for about 2 yearsI got N2 end of 2022 and am now working in Japan for a japanese company using 100% japaneseAnki is great if you use it correctly, my best tip is to not learn random core2k/6k words just because they're common, you'll have no connection to it and you'll forget it after a whileInstead put words you see but don't understand at the top of the queue, pretty much same as mining
3 new words a day, 50 max reviewsGoing for over a year now, seeing results.Ankimaxxers doing hundreds of reviews a day are retards
>>48070370I guess I'm a retard for seeing results in 2 months compared to a year. Oh well...
>>48050161install rikaitan https://rikaitan.github.io/
>>48070080>What's your recommendation then? It's pretty simple. 1) Read Tatsumoto, 2) Do Ankidrone Foundation, 3) Make TSCs, 4) immerse whenever you can
>>48050148I use mpvacious. It's really handy for learning nip.
>>48050465>>48050486I've been using the "moeway" guide for a while and IMO its not worth it , its not a good guide it isn't written well and requires too much effort for no good reason. It's more than a Jap learning method more like Mehmet's (the author's) lifestyle choices he's forcing onto you IMO.i think the Tatsumoto guide is better (Decided to start using it a week ago) because they are more focused/streamlined idk how you call it.
>>48082528will check that out anon. ive just started doing anki like a week ago so im still pretty early into the moeway guide.
Without all of the HORSE SHIT DRAMA YOU NO-LIFERS CARE ABOUT what makes Rikaitan better than Yomitan? I'm genuinely interested in switching if there's any actual reason to.
>>48089168nothing retard. the "drama" is that this faggot tatsumoto spams his shit constantly all over 4chan using a scraper to notify him when someone namedrops popular learning tools/sites. rikaitan does nothing over yomitan and no one endorses tatsumoto's shit because he just copies and mishmashes other people.https://learnjapanese.moe/https://animecards.site/
>>48089283does tatsumoto make any money from drawing people to his guide or is this purely driven by mental illness? the spam has been happening for so long now
