>>48655758The source material for this exists in HD, possibly even 4K and we're getting a DVD...
>>48656778It's crazy how much producing blurays still costs. I wish they just released it 4k digitally.
>>48656787Yeah, they could at least add a download code inside the box or something if they don't believe in horny anons making the BD print worth it.That said, digital is a mess itself. Sure, there are movies, TV, anime, etc. available here and there (with licenses that come and go on daily basis), but concerts? Like 99% of them are still locked to physical media. You can find a few if you go through Prime Video or Apple TV, but for most of them you have to buy a disc. Really weird when there is a big push for streaming everything, especially music and video, yet something that combines both is that heavily neglected.
>>48655758>2025>DVDoh no no no
>>48656919Does license for songs work differently for streaming and physical release? I can see why they would avoid it if physical royalty is based on number of discs while streaming is based on time period.
>>48656958Welcome to post-Bushi D4DJ.
>>48656919Part of it is just that some of these companies are super boomer pilled. Part of it is concern for piracy. Part of it is the idol industries obsession with physical goods.>>48656959Streams are nearly universally counted as a fraction of a sale due to how music ratings were developed when jukeboxes were still a thing. This is why artists always complain about spotify.
>>48657168>Part of it is concern for piracy. Part of it is the idol industries obsession with physical goods. So, them being boomer pilled. Isn't the ban on photography/video recording also part of that being boomer pilled?
>>48657222So I'm not an expert I worked in the music industry in a production studio for almost two decade but I there was some legitimate data about the lag time of the physical goods going on sale and illegal downloads being available that does lead to some amount of consumers making a purchase. I don't believe it's particularly impactful though. Japanese consumer habits are a lot different from westerners though and they seem far more willing to pursue legal methods and there is a definite culture amongst idol fans about wanting to own these things. I do wonder if companies worry that providing better more convenient options would lead to less consumers pursuing those habits. What I do know is the dvds and cds are orders of magnitude more profitable than streaming is.
>>48657352What about the no photography/video recording thing? Most of the world has largely moved on from it (with some exceptions) as long as it's for personal use, yet they're stuck in the past. I don't even think it's the "it enhances the fan experience" aspect where you don't have to worry about phones blocking your view, since that doesn't even seem to be the real reason from what I can tell. I don't even think it's due to official recordings or video releases either since they do it even for events which never have official releases.
>>48657569Honestly I prefer it. Going to a concert and not being able to see because there is a sea of phone screens being held up in the air trying to peek past each other is such turbo cancer. I don't know if it's the real reason or not but I hate it. I stopped going to a lot of big music festivals because of it.
>>48657569>as long as it's for personal useWhen you are neighour with the Chinese, you can't expect rules to be simply upheld. I assume in the past the Chinese had taped the whole things and sold them on DVD for 5 bucks before official ones even came out and it pissed them off to no end. Heck the Chinese just taped Ave Mujica anime advanced viewing in movie theatres recently.
>>48657584I feel like it's mostly an issue with people into Japanese media, because the ones I see who say "I hate seeing people putting up their phones during concerts" and prefer no photos being allowed are people who are into J-media. I don't really see such complaints much for those into K-media, Western artists, or really anything that isn't Japanese. I don't know if it's because they're used to the idea of no recording at events since it's the norm in Japan but has largely died out elsewhere, or if it's just a coincidence.>>48657722It's been a thing since long before they were targeting the Chinese or even international market. Indeed, it was actually the norm internationally for a long time (there's a reason why the term "bootleg recording" exists). The thing is, most of the world has since moved on and relaxed their rules, usually allowing it as long as it's for personal use. It's only Japan that largely stuck with the practice.
>>48657759*tend to be people who are into J-media.Like for example, in the country where I'm from, recording at events for local celebrities/personalities is the norm. If they tried banning it, it would cause an outrage. So maybe there's a cultural aspect to it too, but I did find it interesting that non-Japanese who are into Japanese media tend to be more anti-recording than people who aren't into Japanese media.
>>48657825I know there are some western artists who have started asking audiences to put phones away or even mandating phone free concerts.
>>48657852The keyword is "some" and they're just a small minority. It hasn't really caught on (probably for logistical reasons), and it's so unusual that when it happened it was actually reported in the news. In fact, the cases I saw where it happened abroad, it was so unusual that the foreigners who went outright said it was unusual or that they had never experienced it before. The fact is, banning recording at non-Japanese concerts is so unusual it's considered newsworthy, despite being the norm in Japan.
>>48657759>>48657825>>48657879Normies are retarded
>>48657852I can also imagine that one reason it hasn't caught on is that it could be a logistics nightmare. Even with the lockers/pouches they were using, if you're gonna hide thousands of phones, things could easily go wrong. There's also the danger that an emergency could happen, and if the person wasn't able to attend to it because their phones were locked away, leading to consequences (even tragic ones). I imagine it would be a legal nightmare if that happened.
>>48657879Hopefully Japan will change its ways and become a more tolerant and inclusive country!
>>48657759So silly and old fashioned like everything japs do.I cane sail just bring camera glasses and record. Or a pen. Or heck a battery. Thinking you need a phone to secretly record is dumb, it's incredibly easy to do. Same idea why it's so dumb to have shutter sounds on your phone. It's easy to disable and also there's better tools to secretly record that your fucking phone which is incredibly obvious
Low trust society moment
>>48657892I know there are some artists who compromise and allow recording for part of their set (usually the last song), but it's not the norm there (at least not yet). It seems like a good compromise between wanting to protect whatever interests they have, not wanting distractions, and letting the fans have memories. I find it weird that it's not more common yet, but maybe it could be because it's a relatively new practice in Japan and it might take some time to spread.
>>48657897I think there's a cultural aspect to it as well. They're used to it and so it's easy to enforce within Japan. Outside of Japan, it's not the norm (except for the instances >>48657852 talked about), and knowing how people are people, there will be people trying to go against rules just for the heck of it. Reverse psychology basically, people trying to record *because* they were told not to. Indeed, I've seen cases of overseas events by Japanese acts where they said recording was prohibited, but people did it anyway and there wasn't much they could do about it. It could be just Japanese boomers being boomers but maybe they need to realize that the rest of the world isn't Japan and other countries have their own norms and cultures. Then again, what else would you expect for a country that didn't embrace streaming until relatively recently, or where flip phones still have a sizable userbase.
>>48657906D4DJ do it often, usually for the new song. Most recently it was Lyrical Lily in November. Just search #宝物の1日
