Literally 34. Ryu spent hours setting up her backstory with her name as the linchpin of her motivation.A mountain of post-hoc evidence comparing Lambda and Satoko will never overcome the purity of the name, the essence of the character.Though you're probably just trolling the shitokofag sure.

>>48664955The only time Bern outright mentions "Higurashi" is when threatening to spoil the culprit of a video game Lambda was playing. What Bern and Lambda both do mention are events that sound similar.to Rika's situation in Higurashi as Bern's backstory, without using any names - but the manga does include visual flashbacks with Rika, Hanyuu and even Rika's father once (the Umineko stage also included an actor playing Rika's father), while the VN used a track that originated in Higurashi when Lambda talks about it in ep6. For Lambda/Takano's side, in a side story you have her meeting and blessing (in a school background) someone who sounds like Takano/Miyoko. On the other hand, for the Satoko side, even in the OG Umineko, you have her using a pie puzzle similar to the one Keiichi uses on Satoko to keep her distracted in an oni game in Onikakushi, and then Bern outright calls her out because she's using something she fell for before. Also, although not a direct connection a lot of Lambda/Bern interactions like threatening punishment games is straight out of the way the club interacts. The little we learn about Lambda's human life is that she either had no father or bad relationship with him, she read the manga Galaxy Express 999, which ran in the late 70s early 80s, when she was a human, before being a witch, and couldn't understand the immortal villains there before becoming a witch. She also describes herself (back when she was a human) as a daredevil. The 07th Expansion All Character Settings Collection mention a Higurashi fragment is very nostalgic to both Lambda and Bern, and the Hotarubi prologue also mentions Lambda is nostalgic for Hinamizawa. Then you have all Gou/Sotsu stuff which ends with Satoko and Rika making the departure speech used by Lambda and Bern in Umineko, basically settling it, with the story being basically an explanation for the start of their bond even if you think Lambda existed in a regocnizable form already before the Satoko stuff (as opposed to still going by Vier like Eua thought). I don't fault most people disregarding the Satoko theories before Gou/Sotsu, but I think at this point in spite of the Takano/Miyoko voice/name reference (even the eye color connection is often dumped in redesigns).

>>48665338holy shit how long has it been since this guy's drawn something non-fetish relatedshame it's such a tiny resolution because i sure do like the idea
>>48665273I disregard Sotsu. It's so out of character and bland. Just doing a "say the line" thing doesn't make me clap and smirk at the Umi reference I recognize. Sotsutoko at the end acts nothing like jovial and traumatized, clingy Lambda.I've always thought they were pieces of the gameboard that Lambda was playing, Takano was her piece and therefor named after her. That original Higurashi was the abandoned game that went on for far too long and trapped everyone. Not this weird already yuri thing that Lambda herself supposedly starts up and ends arbitrarily. Lambda was supposed to grow attached to Bern cause they shared a similar trauma of being trapped.Bern too, was that meta speaker from Minagoroshi and the epilogue not Bernkastel before receiving her name? That's what seems to be implied, even harder on the anime and manga side as well. That Bern was definitely not the Rika who is possibly a witch? that was born from sotsu.
>>48665391>Not this weird already yuri thing that Lambda herself supposedly starts up and ends arbitrarilywon't lie, if anything sotsu made me see bern and lambda's relationship as less romantic retroactively, and that shit's SUPPOSED to feel that way
>>48665398I think the life lesson Ryukishi was trying to force with Satoko learning to live on her own without relying on Rika or the club was artifically grafted onto the Bern/Lambda origin story where Lambda has to be obsessed. So you get two conflicting outcomes at the same time. One for the stupid moral lesson and the other that leads into Umineko.
The Jessica shrine is nearly complete. Just need to figure out some Rog Limitation elements to add
>>48665438How much would I have to pay you to cum on her tits?
>>48665442Some things money can't buy, Anon
I always assumed Lambda was both Satoko and Takano to represent how volatile her relationship is to Bern, being both Rika's true love and enemy. But with Satoko "updated" to be more antagonistic, the Takano aspect is now vestigial. Pretty clear R07 just makes shit up as he goes along.
>>48665727they both had references to 34, so it moreso made sense for that to be the case than this weirdass thing of throwing takano out and making lambda the exact same sort of witch as bern, which also removes the whole aspect of lambda's fascination over bern's origin in the first placeit's fundamentally just worse in every way
>>48665727>Rika's true love FUCKING LMAO
>>48665438I'm surprised she even has merch
>>48665438Based Jessicabro.
I love Umineko
>>48665727My theory is that Satoko is Jestress (real name Mitsuyo), and one of LD3105 CCP personalities, with Vier being another one. Both of them met Eua at some point, though she has difficulty distinguishing between them, but the Jestress/Mitsuyo personality managed to escape her original world and traverse the Sea of Fragments, eventually losing her former identity and becoming Satoko in Rika's game.Takano is related to the Vier personality, but instead of being a true continuation of Vier, Takano is just a reflection of the original character, just like how Tomitake reflects Toujirou and other characters in the franchise reference each other. Legally, she's a different person, but from a meta perspective, she's obviously modelled after the original Vier Dreißig with similar (but not the exact same) traits.

>>48666413
>>48666413Oh, finally Angel Mort Miyuki after they skipped her when doing the og angel Mort alts. I wonder if we'll get any dark Awakening or dark monster since they skipped characters there too, then again none of the post-ending content has had any conflict so far.
>>48666231Me too sister!
>>48666413I thought that was a female Keiichi at first glance.
>>48666494Storywise, Miyuki is supposed to be Rika level flat although the artists basically don't draw her like that outside of the first few cards. In this story, Nao stops just short from saying that seeing Miyuki in an Angel Mort uniform reminded her of Keiichi cross dressing as part of the punishment games.
>>48665752Lambda being interested in Bern because they had the same/similar origin was always the point though. You can interpret it as them having separate but similar origins, which is how most people used to interpret this line, but the way she talks about it here the literal reading is them both coming from the same hell.
>>48665752I guess R07 wants to make Rika and Satoko into "mascots" of WTC, so Lambda's connections to Higurashi were simplified. But yeah, it doesn't really do anything for either work. How GouSotsu shits on Higurashi is old hat, but its not like Satoko being Lambda really adds anything to Umineko. It's just kinda there.

>nippon "humor"
>Bernkastel: Your father, mother, and of course Battler...will never return to you again...and will never speak your name again.Using the power of logic, one can deduce that to never speak Battler's name AGAIN one would have to speak Battler's name in the first place. Stillborn babies can't speak. All that's left to argue over if -our- Battler returned to Ange - sure he might not in a literal sense have returned to Ange(who, if we're splitting hairs, came to him) at the beginning of the magic ending, but he does return at the very end. So either the red text is wrong, or there is another "Battler" who "did not RETURN" to Ange, who did not speak Ange's name AGAIN.
>>48667680Implying it's a mere funny moment instead of Ryukishi clearly establishing the lust each girl feels for Keiichi
>>48667680the lack of hanyuu in this k1 thirst image is concerning
>>48667200It's Miyuki wanting to be an angel Mort waitress, feeling left out because all the other girls had been praised for it, but they said it doesn't fit her because she's flat (those breats are pads according to the story) meanwhile Mamoru visits it and for once someone acts like a real person from the 80s would, wondering why minors are dressed as whores and even working there at all (thus why he covers up Miyuki with a jacket). Although in the end Mion somehow calms him down off-screen with some kind of excuse.
>>48667691Even as if to address the ambiguity of returning, before the grand magic scene, we see that Battler did return. At the very very very very VERY least, this is proof positive that saying >Battlerin the red text refers to someone who has to be identifying as Battler - that identity death is indeed something that can happen. But since Ange's onii-chan also refers to her by her name(albiet a new name she took on), I'm chalking it up to there being a second Battler.
>>48667691>>48667721I think a lot of people miss that the red truth is explicitly only for facilitating witch games and isn't like, some actual law of reality. The game was well over by the time Ange re-united with Battler.
>>48667748Not so fast! Even if you want to get anal and ignore characters using the red text in ????, well after an individual "game" concludes, The red applies to the story as a whole as well!>Beato wanted you to solve it, so she made this game...the riddles of this tale...solvable.I don't think Beato would want someone who cared about Jessica to solve any riddles, but my point stands!
>>48667829"This game and "this tale" could be referring to, well, the game Umineko no Naku Koro ni itself. Or what, is now where we draw the line with meta? We can powerwank Featherine up to infinity but we can't say "the mystery game as a whole has solvable riddles?"
>>48667835>>48667829>>48667748ALSO tautologies that don't apply to an individual "game" itself are demonstrated in red - such as>Van Dine's Twenty Rules, Rule #7. It is forbidden to have a crime without a corpse. So uh - yeah I think the red text affects the entire context of the story. Green text, details and trivia outside the fourth wall, are featured if you remember them
>>48664121It is what it is. With witches there is no retreat and no mercy.
>>48667835Yeah, if you ignore the part where it says Beato wrote it, which she only did for EP 1-4. You can just write your Jessica fanfic for the fun of it, you don't need to invent plot holes to fill in to grant your fanfic a sense of legitimacy.

>>48671658In "real-life" aka Prime, Sayo only wrote 1-2, yeah. But I'm referring to Beatrice being the GM of EP 1-4. The authorship of the games is kind of a mess and I don't think Ryukishi gave a shit working it out until the manga.

How many people prefer the manga to the VN? The manga not having Ryukishi's ridiculously drawn-out prose is a huge benefit. Admittedly, Umineko EP 8 is a bit apples to oranges since the manga has a different philosophy from the VN.
>>48685498For Higurashi I preferred the visual novel all the way (although I did the sacrilegious thing that was replacing most slice of life tracks with songs from ko-ko-ya and bohemianvodoo for the question arcs). The Manga is good enough but I personally like the long slice of life sequences and the voice acting of the console release adds a lot. My biggest problem with the VN that isn't present in the other versions is that I don't find any of the 3 art styles to be fitting. For Umineko I prefer the visual novel too with the exception of arc 4 which is immensely better in the Manga due to cutting all the shitty parts, pacing it better and having the best art style out of the 8 arcs.Currently at season 4 of Rose Guns Days in the VN and on season 2 of the manga, but so far prefer the visual novel much more.Haven't finished the visual novel of Higanbanna but already went over the content that the light novel and manga covers. I preferred the Manga version in this case, the art reminds of Nejimaki Kagyuu and the visual novel didn't really fix any pacing issues despite releasing later but they do add se more dreary parts which is why I feel that they're almost on equal terms.
>>48685498Episode 8 of Umineko is definitely better in the manga. The VN acted like Yasu's self-deluding behavior was good instead of being incredibly self-destructive. The manga did a total 180 on that, and it improved the story immensely. >>48685698Higanbana is super short, so a manga seems kind of unnecessary.
>>48687835Well the Manga of Higanbanna came prior the visual novel in this case so I can understand it as a visual aide for light novel readers. But I really like the way it looks.
>>48682705Is there really nowhere with this? Not even a file within the game or pamphlet with it?
Higurashi really criticizes Japanese nationalism in the VN, huh. I guess it's no surprise Ryukishi would troon out real hard with Umineko.
>>48688550Don't know what disliking japanese nationalism has to do with trooning out. They are completely unrelated concepts/.
>>48688550Anon in Higurashi Reiwa Keiichi praises multiculturalism and letting in migrants to solve the falling birthrates in Japan. My main issue with the fights in Matsuribayashi is they end without a single person dying. I'm not saying it needs to be a detailed blood bath, but Hinamizawa is frequently compared to the Vietnamese, and let me tell you, that army sure as shit wasn't non-lethally defeating people. The manga did a total 180 on that, and it improved the story immensely.I could forgive the VN's horrible message if it was at least well-argued, but it's done pretty childishly. Everyone in favor of truth is portrayed as horrible bullies, as if that's the only reason why anyone would be curious about an unsolved massacre that happened at a former government base. Ange also gets her character arc from EP 4 and 6 thrown out the window, reduced into an extremely shallow mouthpiece for Fantasy. EP 8 VN is only liked because of goodwill from EP 1-7 and the music.
>I finished Episode 8 of Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Right now, I'm filled with anger, sadness, despair, and regret. Of all the stories I've ever read, Umineko no Naku Koro ni is the worst, the worst, the most unfair work. This story has attracted readers by scattering many impossible crime mysteries, but it has completely abandoned the solution to all of those mysteries, leaving everything vague and completely abandoned!>Ah... if this is the case, the ending of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of millions of times better! I carefully read all the text of Umineko, hoping to find a solution to the mystery somewhere, but in the poorly made fantasy battles, I was only forced to read endless metaphors of the author's self-defense and hostile insults towards the readers. As a mystery writer, it is the most despicable thing for the author to do to present many mysteries, challenge the reader with them, and then run away and end the story without providing the answer. It is an unfair thing that a mystery writer should not do, but the author Ryukishi07 is completely ignoring this! What is most hopeless and terrible is that the author, who has completely run away from his own story, writes a poorly written fantasy to provoke the reader, and covers up the fact that he ran away from his own work by deceiving himself with self-defense and criticism of the reader! It's too bad. This is the first time I've seen such a terrible story and author.>This is the worst, no, even the word "worst" can't describe it, it's the worst story beyond the worst. The author is completely mocking and hurting the readers who have been reading it seriously up until now. It's just too bad!>Episode 8 is a long series of poorly written fantasy depictions from beginning to end. This was just an excuse for the author, and he made the serious readers the bad guys (the characters who want to solve the mystery) and the author (the characters who don't want the mystery to be solved) the good guys, and the author was just trying to insult the readers while defending himself. For example, in response to the deduction that "money is the motive," he said, "Anyone who makes such a deduction is a lowly person who doesn't understand the human heart, a scum who doesn't deserve to touch any story," and after unilaterally insulting various deductions that had been submitted by readers, he said, "It is not acceptable to taint the life and death of people with a debate called deduction," and in the end, the power of the deduction was crushed, and all the mysteries were left unsolved and everything was left unresolved.>I never want someone who wields his power as an author so tyrannically to make such big claims about mysteries again. Umineko was heavily promoted as a "mystery" and promoted using various mysteries as a promotional tool, but the author completely abandoned creating a solution to the mystery and ended up simply mocking and hurting the readers. As a reader who truly loves mystery and detective novels, I deeply hope that such a work will never be published again and that such a terrible work will be criticized and properly evaluated as "a terrible work". Ryukishi07 you do not have the ability to write a mystery. You can only depict the characters' ad hoc battles and ad hoc emotions. You have no logical writing ability to grasp the entire world of the story from a bird's-eye view and naturally solve the mysteries scattered throughout the story. You just scribble down the story haphazardly without any thought for the overall structure, that's all. Please acknowledge that. After presenting a whole lot of mysteries and making a big fuss about them, he was unable to solve any of them, and ended up just defending himself and blaming the readers with a poor quality fantasy plot. This is really horrible, and he has treated the readers who have read his work so far with disdain. I want Ryukishi07 to realize how horrible he has been to his readers. He should write in a genre other than mystery in the future, or if he writes mysteries, he should fundamentally change his attitude as an author. He was unable to write a logical work that would bring the whole story together, and he ended the story by throwing away all the mysteries he had presented so far, and not only that, he resorted to self-defense and blaming the readers with a ridiculous fantasy plot. I want Ryukishi07 to admit that this is a very cowardly and unfair way of doing things. This kind of method is nothing but a way of hurting readers, degrading mysteries, and destroying the respect and pride people have for stories. I never want him to do such a terrible thing again.>I'm so angry and hopeless that my head is throbbing, my chest feels heavy, and my stomach hurts. I'm feeling unwell, so I'm going to bed... Umineko was such a terrible story. It was like a bomb was dropped into my heart, and I was so shocked that a hole was burned in my chest.-2011 JP blog

>>48690597Trvke.Ryukishi07 gets mad at you for trying to solve the mystery but calls you a brianless goat if you didn't try to solve it. Either way you get insulted for trying to appreciate his workIs this why Battler kept saying it's useless?

>>48690875In the end he caved and proved the blogger right by explaining anything in the manga so it seems in retrospect he really does see it as a cowardly
>>48690875In a vacuum your post could be right, but this is 2011, people had been let down by the Higurashi ending (objectively bad as a mystery, even if you like the thematic points it touched on. Probably why the people who got the most enjoyment out of higurashi were those who didn't focus that much on the mystery but on the characters and setting instead). So this second disappointment by going in the complete opposite direction was just huge, people had invested tons of money and hours into trusting 07 works and giving him another chance by now, you can't blame the guy
>>48690656Hotarubi starts so well, but the ending is rushed and has all the same flaws as Yoigoshi with the clumsy development/exposition.
>>48690875>>48690915>>48690954I wasn't there when Umineko was still getting new episodes, but I know Ryukishi had said in several interviews he wasn't gonna give the solution. Were people expecting him to just chicken out? I guess that's fair because he eventually did that with the manga, but you'd think people would temper their expectations.I read old animesuki threads and a lot of people thought the EP 7 Tea Party was an illusion, for reasons like "no way Kyrie would do something so retarded" And these were people who otherwise believed in the official solution, this wasn't Rosatrice schizos. Sure enough, the manga would later go "nope, Kyrie really is that retarded." The manga is a more enjoyable read but the VN is more interesting as kind of cautionary tale on why mysteries typically pony up the answers.
I have completely and independent of any poking or prodding come to wonder - could the use of "even if you join us, that makes 17 humans" be a moral judgement rather than that furniture crap? As there could be 18 people but only 17 humans not because the 18th is a persona, but because they are so far above/below what you'd consider a human in terms of morals?I mean Natsuhi is pure and faithful is a red truth, and that's pretty fucking subjective
>>48691417>be 18 people but only 17 humansThey're essentially the same in the JPN text, only differing for grammatical reasons. The whole point is to show that the red truths can contradict. That doesn't refute your idea but I think the motive for non-Shkanon theories is to avoid contradictory red truths
Supplementary Umineko Material that come to mindIn one of the supplementary Umineko stories, Jessica writes a short story that Lambdadelta brings to life, ostensibly because Jessica makes the "mistake" of writing "fan" instead of "fin" at the end. Could the use of "fan" be more than a mere typo - like how you can be a "fan" of someone, savory or unsavory? In the fighting game George notably sequesters Jessica away, asking her to "trust me", before confronting Beatrice.Notably a lot of the other endings have a ahaha.wav worked in, but this one doesn't, meaning... uh... something? Like maybe this end doesn't have some incredibly cruel twist of fate to it, while Lambdadelta, Jessica, and Kanon chilling on the beach somehow does?
>>48691447A lot of chicanery is possible. For example, Beatrice says when SHE tells the truth it's in red - you could argue that means when others use it it could be a lie. Of course, you could even go with the idea that Beatrice was lying from the get go - all we have to believe in the red truth is Beatrice's word that it is.At that point it becomes a matter of really needing to pick your fanfiction and flesh it out since the "logic" here is hard to parse. I like Jessica being the second Battler because it could ostensibly make the red truth consistent across all boards and seems to fit the thematics. "Jessica is alive" and "Jessica is really dead" - well gee normally we could write that off as a contradiction but we've also been beat over the head with this idea of a catbox, of an entity that is both "alive" and "dead" until observed. So maybe if we expand on that, the red truth, if not capable of "lying", has to do with "perception?" There's a scene where Jessica tells Kanon to close his eyes and it's an odd scene since it almost seems to be leaning on the idea of a detective's POV - and how if the detective doesn't see it, anything goes. But I digress the red truth has demonstrated itself to be subjective to a degree with Natsuhi being "pure and faithful", BEFORE we work into account pseudo quantum physics principles of observation
But with crimes themselves if you want to get away with them isn't it not so much not wanting "the detective" to see you but not wanting "witnesses" to see you? I mean, witness testimony is not as reliable as evidence, but it's something. Plenty of people have been convicted on testimony alone. Maybe that's what's thematically at play here?
