AJATT is misguided since it blends manual learning methods (which are completely useless at best, and harmful at worst) with the thing that actually works (comprehensible input). Seeing you guys spending 10 minutes decoding a single sentence through manual grammar analysis and word lookups in an old SNES game while trying to read when you've only been learning for 2 days, or seeing you dumbasses post questions about the science behind some grammar you're not ready to understand yet, or seeing you morons post your Anki streaks which are no better than Duolingo, are seriously cringeworthy.
Sit back, listen, and enjoy. That's what comprehensible input is. Stop looking up words and analyzing the grammar, you stupid fucks.

I'll never understand this retarded argument, because I'm not a retard who is convinced by or utilizes fallacious reasoning. I always wonder how people can spend 18 or more years of their lives growing into adults and having at least 157,788 hours to think and analyze logic and its basic structures still would either be unconvinced by something because the person presenting the argument lacks some unrelated skill, or alternatively become convinced by something because the person presenting the argument possesses some unrelated ability.
If you still believe that an argument's validity is contingent on the personal qualities of whatever source you happened to hear the argument from, you're too stupid to even engage with me or anyone in any meaningful way when it comes to any sort of discussion.

I'm having a blast with Claude and in every language I actually know it at least returns grammatically sane sentences, but I wonder how good it is at translation.

the are almost perfect. the only real downside is that since you use them to translate 1 sentence at a time, they have no idea of what the context is, and even if they had, you'd still need the llm to "read" through the script before even starting to translate. when that happens 2026 at the very latest the dekinai community will finally go extint
>>
>>48673301
cant you just tell the llm the context?

>>48673310
you'd need to put the whole script in context. and even then, most llm are trained to output relatively few tokens, so you'd need to also put its own translation into context as well. technically only gamini with 2m can handle something like this, at least for medium-small vinnies

but then we have the issue of llm becoming dogshit when the context grows (unavoidable with gpt-based ones), so you'll get an hallucinated mess down the way.

there is a way to translate pretty much flawless with current tech but it's a pain in the ass to implement so i'd rather wait for agents who can do it automatically:
>read the whole thing and output summary/characters/worldbuilding/etc as separate text
>put all the above inside context
>make it translate 1 scene at a time
>throw the translation into context for a final pass for the whole thing to see if everything is coherent

this is, assuming the vn is small and the llm is good enough to not shit itself after 16k tokens (so only the latest gemini for now)

>>

My favorite application is asking for closest equivalents of phrasings or even poetry.
I dabbled in translation and one of the more frustrating parts is struggling to minimize the damage with untranslatable stuff or trying to recall the word you're half certain exists. Asking LLM is so much easier.

but if you did duolingo or core6k or whatever you wouldn't really be copy pasting that much anyway

in the first place how is a total beginner even supposed to get "comprehensible" input without looking up words

Why am I seeing people here now openly advocating for Duolingo in a non-shitposting way?
>>

duolingo is just a better version of core/taekim. no it won't make you fluent. but neither will the beginner materials that qm or shoui shills to you

we've already reached the optimal methodology in 2020-2021, there was nothing but regressions that could follow

oh so that's why you keep updating your site
>>
>>48674848
sure you need some updates like someone makes a better core deck or a better version of another software comes out
but nothing is changed about the base flow
asbplayer is pretty much my old anime mining workflow, it's not even faster because it requires replaying the video to record the audio which is literally what you had to do with my old workflow too
it's basically the same
asbplayer is nice because i can use it on jellyfin that's the biggest game changer for me but i haven't mined in some time now

>>48674829
the issue with stuff like duolingo is that it makes you jump through a bunch of hoops and perform stupid useless rituals making the absolute beginner phase last forever
the learning meta is to make the beginner phase as short as possible which simply is get a rough understanding of grammar into your head, core vocabulary and start consuming japanese asap

>>48674937
okay, if you spend one day on duolingo i don't see the issue, go ahead and do that one day
evidently it's not equivalent to the beginner phase for consumption preparation as that takes longer than one day
to work through a 1-2k core deck and a solid grammar guide it takes longer than one day
>>
>>48674966
>to work through a 1-2k core deck and a solid grammar guide it takes longer than one day
no you *can* do those things in one day as well. my point isn't that you should try to do a course in one day. my point is that you make shit up and you have no idea what you're talking about

>>
>>48675096
duolingo doesn't optimize it's app for language learning results
it collects data to maximize profit and revenue flow, if slowing your learning progress aligns with higher profits they will do exactly that
crazy world where people want to trust private corporations with data they don't even see more than real people with a shared interest and more experience
