I feel good when a hikikomori character leaves her own room and does the things she wants to do.

Finally finished Oretsuba.Great VN, no notes. All around excellent. Great cast of characters, great routes, one of the funniest VNs I've read in my life, highly recommend, you should absolutely check it out if you have any interest. Oddly, one of my favorite parts is that it's unintentionally a time capsule of the late 2000s, so much of the VN is rooted in that era. MCs:Garuda > Paneda > Hayato > Chitose > Takashi > Youji (shota)Heroines>Kakeru > Hiyoko > Asuka > Miyako > Naru > PoppoRoutes:>Poppo > Naru > Asuka/Miyako > Hiyoko
I also read Hukusuba (which was pretty easy since it's three hours long, at most, plus an extra half an hour onsen vacation omake).Pretty good short, sweet, and straightforward mystery game. It felt a lot like reading a oneshot the author is really hoping gets picked up for serialization, it's very clear they want to tell more mystery stories with the two main characters. If it does get future entries, I'll definitely read them. The mystery itself is fairly straightforward and not too hard to solve, although some parts of it are a bit ridiculous. The Totally-Not-The-Black-Company-We-Swear league of supercriminals went to some absolutely absurd lengths and spent a ton of money just to kidnap two girls. I'm not sure how to feel about the whole kidnapping plot being resolved by one of the kidnappers being accidentally caught in the background of someone else's photo they uploaded to instagram, letting the heroes track down their area. I get that it's realistic - that's how most of these cases are actually solved in real life - but it's kinda anticlimactic. Also, full credit to them, I was so distracted trying to solve the mystery they absolutely got me with the real twist at the end, which looking back they were expertly setting up the whole time while using the murder/kidnapping case as a distraction. Also, and this is a really minor thing that only happens a couple of times but I thought was pretty interesting, the VN talks about how covid happened during the period while all the characters were in high school and kind of fucked up their youth by not letting them do anything.
Retard here. I just finished Kansen 1 and wanted to read some more background info before continuing. But I can't find the Chronicle Teller part in either version of Kansen BB (Complete box+ and FHD). Downloading full saves didn't help either. Is there something I need to do? Or do I need to find an older version?

is oretsuba hard? i have never ever read a vn i mainly read slice of life manga like minami ke and yuru yuri
>>48744263untranslatable
>>48744263No, the choices are pretty straightforward and it has an enforced route order other than side routes. But you should still do all the choices to see missable scenes and such.

>>48739827how long did it take for you guys to be able to read untranslated novels?is there are benefit to reading untranslated compared to translated?
>>48744606you learn the language despite the fact that all you do is stroke your worm
>>48744584I fucking hate it when they halfass it. 義妹 belong in the trash.
>>48744606The benefit is that it's way way better. It's not about translation quality to me, even the best translations just don't come close because the language is so alien you have to compromise or make reaches and cop-outs with almost every sentence in a translation. Especially with characters' speaking stylse, mannerisms, and humor in general. When I rewatched Jojo after learning Japanese I realized how little I truly knew the characters beforeI've never read VNs in English so I can't re-read one in JP
>百点裁判i see what they did there.if you guys get other stuff 教えてください。
>>48744606>how long did it take for you guys to be able to read untranslated novels?like 2 months,I still remember taking 1 hour to complete a 5 minute scene>is there are benefit to reading untranslated compared to translated?Considering the absolute state of modern translations? yeah, but even a good translation doesn't give the same level of immersion untranslated gives.
>>48743227>CartelgeWhat?
>>48744606>>48744414>>48742993"Interesting" posts.
>>48744606I've read English translated VNs for many years and I can tell confidently tell anyone that it's not worth reading another one again once I started becoming half way decent at reading Japanese. The experience is objectively different. From what I've seen, everyone who "knows Japanese" and somehow goes back to translations are all bullshitters.
>>48744677>brother and sister are actually not blood related out of nowhere>happened with side characters who don't have h-scenes evenNot sure what it is but this still pisses me off.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5BNCL3lUPEis this still the best eroge song of the 2020s?
>>48746498>>brother and sister are actually not blood related out of nowhere>can't even know about this until youre 95% done with the game because it counts as a spoiler and is hidden by your spoiler settings
>>48746498I think this works for important plot reasons.Like something about a cursed bloodline and it turns out the character is not blood related. Or maybe something about fake memories which makes character question who is the actual blood related sibling.Otherwise I agree. I would also prefer more reverse twists like>they were dating and fucking all this time, but later it turns out they're blood related (and it doesn't stop them)
>>48746548In a certain Baldr game, I liked the twist that Aki turned out to be a clone of MC's mom. That was hot.
>>48746541I let some things like that slip through my spoiler settings because why would I read anything with retarded twists like that?
>>48744677"they don't have the same parents, but the nbr sister is actually his real twin sister who died at birth and was reincarnated as his soulmate"how does anon feel about this kind of thing?
>>48746842I don't mind, but it needs a good execution or else it'll just leave you wondering why they bothered at all.
>>48744606>how long did it take for you guys to be able to read untranslated novels?I started after seven months of flashcards but I believe I could have skipped that entirely and started immediately.>is there are benefit to reading untranslated compared to translated?Absolutely yes.The biggest benefit for me is being able to understand the spoken Japanese. The difference between seeing "I love you" written at the bottom of the screen and hearing the heroine whisper it into your ear, hearing and understanding every beautiful tremble of her voice is the difference between heaven and earth. It's also just a much more immersive experience in general. It's difficult to lose yourself in a VN when you're interacting with it through an interpreter. Even a really well done translation feels distinctly incongruous compared to interfacing with it directly. It's also freeing to be able to read anything you want, whenever you want. No "Is this translated," no "Is the translation any good," you just pick a story and read it.The difference is night and day. There are some VNs I didn't like at all when I read them in English, but when I tried them again in Japanese I completely fell in love with them.If you're passionate about visual novels and you aren't already learning Japanese you're making a huge mistake. I wouldn't go back to reading visual novels translated for a million dollars in cash.

is rewrite+ worth playing over the original? i've heard it censor quite a lot of stuff, but also seems to add additional voice acting, cgs, and one new ending or something?
>>48744606how can you say you love her if you cant understand her without subtitles?
>>48747080Censors? I don't remember any but I barely remember the original rewrite.
>>48747114>https://vndb.org/r128277sadly seems like this patch will only be available for the english version
>>48747128The script parts sounds like just english steam-specific stuff.
>>48747128>— Script is largely based on the console release which has censorship (anything related to the drugs is toned down or removed) as well as removing mentions of toilets or Korean food (exclusive to Rewrite+)lmao
>>48747154Oh nevermind I'm retarded.

Question regarding Oretsuba. Prelude was released before the main game, but some of the reviews on EGS recommend reading the main game first. Which would be the best order?
>>48748084Who do you trust more, the developers or EGS randos?
>>48748084Speaking as somebody who just read Oretsuba, you should probably read Prelude first. It's not strictly necessary, you'll be fine if you don't, but it's a nice intro to the characters and setting.
>>48748084>>48748442You're supposed to play Sorechiru, then Prelude, then Oretsuba.
>>48748529Also you should play shuffle first so you can truly understand Hariu when he learns to love Primula calling him Onii-chan.
