have you ever browsed 2chan, futaba, or other Japanese image/textboards?what's the most interesting thing you've seen there?how different is the culture and mindset of 2channers and futaba users from ours?i’ve seen some threads on 2chan here before, but just a note for jannies: these boards are very niche Japanese media and often linked to otaku stuff like touhou. hope this thread is okay
>>49919094Kuma
Doesn't hero own 2chan too? I wonder what the moonrune speaking anons think of him
>>49919347its a long history but yeah he created and owns itthe biggest difference is that unlike 4chan, 2chan is a textboard, which is why SJIS art were so popular over there, it was either that or linking images on another websitethey also have one trillion boards
2chan is not 2ch/5ch, I thought this was basic knowledge around here
>>49920848i know about the 2ch/5ch drama but i thought 2chan was just another name for 2ch.
>>49919094i'm in the oekaki threads of futaba sometimes and theyre good
>>49920991some drawings there are pretty cute
>>499209242chan aka futaba is an imageboard that 4chan aka yotsuba is based on. 2ch/5ch are text only boards.
Something interesting about futaba is that they have a slower serious touhou board and another one just for touhou shitposting which is faster. I guess most gyates come from there
>>49924325
beautiful
>>49919094>what's the most interesting thing you've seen there?I've started lurking futaba recently, and some of the things I've noticed is that there is a guy (group?) on nijiura that likes to spam random threads with scat images. the report queue is also just a public board with image uploads disabled, and sometimes some angry toshiaki will jump in there to shit it up yelling at the admin for one reason or another.
>>49926161I see people spamming "del" in these type of threads and others they dislike
>>49920494hiroyuki doesn't own 2chan.
>>49921444NTA but I've seen 2channel/2ch pronounced as 2chan (ni-chan).I could be wrong, but other than being hosted on the domain 2chan.net, Futaba doesn't seem to have any association with the name 2chan.
>>49928827probably true for Japanese, but we aren't Japanese are we
>>49924325God I wish we had a system like that. Shitpost threads, rare lore threads and the gameplay general all just get thrown in the pile.
>>49926161>I've noticed is that there is a guy (group?) on nijiura that likes to spam random threads with scat imagesWhy do you think it's called shitposting?
>>49928908/jp/ is the shitpost board for /a/ and /v/, giving it board for further shitposting would just be /bant/ or /s4s/
>>499288914chan anons refer to both websites indistinctively because they only have only a vague idea of what they are, if they even realize they are two distinct websites at all.
>>49919094I've poke my head in on futaba's neko board once in a blue moon. You don't have to be good at reading Japanese to enjoy cats.
>>49928891I don't think that's the case for anyone in this thread, but this might be one of the boards with the most japanese users or lurkersI've met some toshiaki who lurk here from time to time. they really like some threads like /fumo/I hope at least one of them see this thread, would be funny
>>49928960Thanks for the input /v/irmin.
>>49919094>what's the most interesting thing you've seen there?some anon linked it here a while ago, someone was spamming the 虫 board with CPit was up for a few days too
>>49929343kek there's CP on that board right now too
>>49929386How do people even get that shit?
>>49929425and the post is up since August 25thdo they even have jannies over there ?
>>49925023Kino
5ch touhou board is quite dead, there are some threads about an old troll that spammed in touhou 2ch board, quite funny to see how they have stupid conflicts as well
>>49930159Pretty good taste in images tho
>>49929459did you report it?
>>49919094Every time I visit 2chan it feels like stepping into some strange alternate universe. I recently learned that they have a still-active community and wiki around a random post from 2006 where someone asked what you would do if your Bulgarian relative died and a 10-year-old futa orphan girl showed up with only an M1911, 5 kilos of weed, and a stuffed rabbit:https://w.atwiki.jp/bulfuta_second/pages/18.html
>>49919347 meI almost forgot about 2channel and 2chan being different sites, desu they sound similar so...Still do 2ch anons like hiromoot?
https://wiki.bibanon.org/2channelhttps://archive.ph/yrXQvInteresting stuff in english i found regarding hiro 2ch
Interesting orin found in 5ch
>>49929343>>49929386Futaba gets spammed with that shit too? I thought it was just altchans that suffered from that. Why are those bots so persistent?
>>49929425Third world internet. If internet access was only limited to first world countries, you'd never see CP spambots.
>>49934380Anon, futaba, 2ch and 5ch doesn't let you post without a japanese IPUnless these filthy bastards find a way to bypass it
>>49934358It's honestly just indiscriminate. It's hard to overstate how many bots are constantly trawling every inch of online space trying to weasel their way in every avenue possible. The ones you see making posts are but a miniscule fraction of how many are actively trying to tunnel into and exploit websites.
>>49934544VPNs
>>49934544anon, it worries me you don't know what a proxy is, or that you've forgotten VPNs are a thing now.
>>49934607>>49934636futaba has quite strong anti-vpn methods from what i remember, but that was probably more than 15 years ago or so then
>>49925023for what possible reason would someone draw Dragonite Daiyousei in the mech from Kirby Planet Robobot?
>>49935461Necause instead of asking why he thought to himself "What would be the funniest and most epic thing I can think of today ?"
>>49935485man they really are superior to us
are the japanese comfortable with 30 degrees?
>>49931123these are fun reads. I wonder what the stats are like 21 years later?
2ch in 1999
This board is the only place that reminds me of old 4chan and Futaba is the same.
>>49935910The Japanese summer is pretty similar to that of the US's east of the Mississippi river, albeit it the peak months vary a little in timing. Humid as hell, and sitting at 30-40 or higher when heat indexes get calculated. 30c is honestly very comfortable after peak summer passes. Even with a bit of humidity.
The Touhou boards are slower than some altchans. Did all the younger japs move to twitter and pixiv?
>>49919094(「・ω・)「
cute sanae found in 5chthe touhou board there is quite dead
>>49940615Wonder how hard Japan was also hit by having too many places to post about things, or if it's just twitter / twitterclones siphoning off posters.
>>49937694>>49940788i asked a toshiaki about it and he gave me a very detailed reply in a lot of futaba aspects, but ill translate the main reasons on futaba inactivity>The “Toshiaki” and other users of Futaba Channel have now created a refuge on other platforms, where they built a large community. The reason they created it is related to the fact that trolls were using bots and tools, making it impossible to have proper discussions, and the administration had abandoned self-governance. They moved their new order to another platform.>As for such platforms, as long as you follow the rules, you are accepted.>Just by being a Toshiaki, they are heavy users who visit various places. Some of them probably also interact with 5ch, so I don’t think they have a negative view of 5ch.as for 5ch touhou boards inactivity i dont really know, i just know that the most active boards there are the politic-themed ones
>>49941219I'm assuming they're keeping the links to those platforms a secret.
>>49941228some are and some aren't, you can see some discord groups being shared in some boards there from time to time (i know 4chan really hates discord but toshiakis and other japanese anons don't seem to really care, it's way nicher in japan than in the west afterall), but i assume some are, i've found some stuff related to futaba in niconico and twitter in the past, they were pretty small accounts but they had a loyal community around them
>>49941234he also mentioned that these toshiakis in most boards are way less conservative than they were in the past, accepting everyone as long as you follow the rules, even foreigners and beginners the only boards you may find some unsual toshiakis are the politic ones, their /b/ equivalent and perhaps the religion one
I heard they use talk.jp and bbs.shitaraba now.
>>49941858most japanese forums have the web design of news websites for some reason
>>49931010No they despise him and Jim Watkins both of which lie about the events that transpired between them.I don't want to link directly to the article because who knows how the mods will react but there's some stuff posted about it on the /www/ board on 22***n
some people in this thread seem to be confused about the japanese date system. Remember, it's year/month/day over there. So on some boards, like futaba's /b/ equivalent, things are pretty active. The '25' at the start of the posts means 2025, not the 25th day.same in 5ch and pretty much any japanese website
found this in 5ch wtf lol
>>49944809Looks like Reddit
This is futaba jurassic park
5ch has a lot of threads for touhou characters just like we have
Desu!
>>49953872Desu
>>49919094I browse 5ch on the regular but I've never been able to figure out 2chan.

>>49957259by 2chan do you mean futaba or the original one created by hiro?futaba is easy to browse like 4chan, but 2ch is almost impossible nowadays, you can't even lurk without a japanese IPalso, a lot of boards are mirrored with 5ch
Found on their /b/ equivalent

>>49961911
>>49965972Found in 2hu board
I remember stumbling upon a thread on futaba about abuse on a fucking fish pokemon, just like their jissouseiki threads or our yukkuri threads.
The easiest way to recognize an image from futaba is if they have this red and yellow pattern in the backgroundI don't know the origin behind it, but it's their watermark in a way
>>49919347No it's owned by Jim W@tkins (this website filters his name for some reason) he's also the guy who hosted and was admin for the original 2chan back when the website was created around 1999. The servers were in California and hosted by his company N.T. Technology. The weird part about it is that Jim was active military at the time.
>>49979598Why does this feel like a copy of USENET/BBS ASCII? Kind of weird to think there was a widespread international Internet culture even back in the 90s.
so futaba is closest to this place? can't wrap my head around all that 2ch/2channel/5ch nonsense
>>49959808Even their /b/ is better than ours
>>499843692ch and 2channel are the same things. It's a text based forum (textboard) established in the 90's. 5ch/5channel was made after 2channel shut down somewhere in the late 2010's. (There's also open2ch which if I'm not mistaken was made in 2012 as an alternative to 2channel)2chan/Futaba is an imageboard and was made as a refugee site when 2channel was shut down in the early days, and yeah, it's probably the closest to 4chan.There's more imageboards besides Futaba, like Momi3. But I don't know if those are any more active than Futaba or if they have something to offer that Futaba doesn't. English imageboards typically cater to certain niches (for example we have an imageboard about Yume Nikki, an imageboard about Vocaloid, an imageboard about Touhou, an imageboard about poorly drawn bearded bald men with their mouths open). And I don't know if the Japanese have anything like that.
>>49984434nice summary, thanks anon-sensei. might try futaba for a bit
>>49985343By the way you can't post on these if you are not in a Japanese IP.
Why does 5ch have a board dedicated to cat torture videos?
>>49984415The language barrier protects them. We should make up a language for 4chan to keep people out.
>>49986481Because Japan lacks many laws that other countries have, notably animal cruelty, age, a very different idea of what 'consent' means, bestiality, etc. It's easier to ban foreign IPs then some random person in another country stumbling on animal torture videos and causing an international controversy over it. CP was completely legal in Japan until like 1999 and I don't think they fully banned it, there's tons of loopholes.
>>49962310Are you japanese? Never heard of this textboard before, but it looks quite activehttps://bbs.eddibb.cc/liveedge/1757470950I was able to post
>>49986481>It's realFuck, we should've have nuked them a third time
>>49987337>BeastialityDo nips actually try fucking their cats? I thought they hate them that much and would rather just burn them alive or something.
>ctrl+f animanch>no resultshttps://bbs.animanch.com/I like this site a lot recently.
Is there anywhere they talk about piracy outside the download board?
>>49988882First time i see a japanese anonymous BBS website with a like systemIt looks nice
>>49927737found an example lol
>>49988875I don't know. Do you think I want to fuck around and find out by downloading things off the Japanese net? The fact that they IP block porn websites so often is for your protection not theirs. I know they're not as bad as Chinese where you can find videos of them putting cats in blenders fairly easily, the first time I ever saw a Chinese in my life was some gore video of a prostitute crushing a kitten's skull with stiletto heels. I learned my lesson quick not to stray too deep into the Asian side of the Internet. If Japanese do it too I'm blissfully ignorant.
>>49988871It really disappointed me because I volunteer for cat shelters and work with Japanese people to combat Chinese cat abusers. They never once brought up that Japan has a problem too. I feel very naive.
>>49991393From what I've heard before, some nijiura boards are raided by trolls making low quality/inflamatory bait threads. Kinda lame since these board used to have a whole culture of their own, with lots of memes and stuff.
>>49990692girlschannel also has them, and futaba added them years ago apparently
>>49991924utaba and 2channel are the closest thing to useach board has a really consistent culture and userbaseunfortunately 2channel ended up dying basically and futaba is full of bots and trollsi'm not sure how many jannies futaba has, but it surely isn't enough
There is so much fucking AI slop in every board. Not even topical just sometimes random AI porn dumps between two threads about trains or whatever>>49992002>i'm not sure how many jannies futaba has, but it surely isn't enoughmost of the boards are covered in just the most inane spamThe ura boards seem to be the only ones with any activity, which makes sense in a way
>>49992310i remember seeing uma musume porn in the mahjong board lol
>>49919094I ran into a board about that one Japanese lawyer, where anons seem to post about every questionable thing he does and how they can harass him and besmirch his reputation. They also had an off-topic board for doxxing Cookie VAs/producers and some other NN/YT user that had caused a fuss on the platform. Kind of weird, but I assume it's not unlike Kiwifarms/Sharty as someone who's never really delved into either of them.
>>49991416>the first time I ever saw a Chinese in my lifeWhat backwater, third-world, worse-than-China hellhole did you scurry out from?
Why are the oldest threads on some boards from 2023? Do they just randomly add new boards that no one uses or do they just wipe them?
>>49992931It was like 15 years ago when China had the same reputation as India and when you looked up anything of them online it was either Liveleak gore or factory accidents. I don't think this is a unique experience if you've been terminally online since middle school.
>>49993073My middle school math teacher was Chinese, I don't get how you couldn't have honestly seen a Chinese person before then unless you live somewhere they never go or are like 10 and were never let outside your home.

>>49990692I feel like the posters there at least in the Gundam section are pretty hilarious I saved some threads like this one. https://bbs.animanch.com/board/3116045/I get a chuckle. You'll need to get a paid VPN to post there though as they range block like 4chan does and know the common ones.
