Happy new year, bros.
Still alive. Next up, valentines.
it's out
it's in
For me its Dark Elf and blue/red hair Miku.
Happy New Year. Here's all the soft-announcements of upcoming titles from eroge studios I found.

Masadabros...
>>50518250I-it's still 2025 in UTC.
Masada moved to Brazil for this reason, so he still has 9 more hours.
hopes and expectations for 2026?
>>50518469I'm most excited for https://vndb.org/v58336 and hope it's good. But Nakajima Taiga has disappointed me more than a few times. Despite having so much potential his works always seem to fall flat.
>>50518469My hope is Eve Bethel actually being good.
>>50518469VNs are getting more popular, so I expect normalfags to bring their striving culture into it and start studying Japanese. So from now on, maybe I'll stop looking up VN discussions online and discuss only with friends, or even start making VNs myself and focus on that.

>>50518577It has to come out eventually.
I wish Maruto made a VN again, but I guess he said his piece with WA2 and it's not worth it at all anymore.
>>50518469Hopefully for eroge to die even harder, and looking at the pattern of everything else in the world getting worse im sure this is a safe prediction
>>50518614Well if you want to be optimistic, things are aligned this year for them to actually work on it. The utter lack of any news (not even a new trailer or something) on New Years pretty much confirms that they haven't worked on it meaningfully at all and it's still a long way out from being finished.
>>50517611Hope saga planets announces something this year
manomura
>>50518929Kind of lost some interest when they said Hiro is coming back
>>50518941shes one of the best parts of manosaba though why wouldnt you want more
>>50518974Because throwing in a character from their first game into both of their new games makes it feel like they aren't confident with making completely new casts. Will still read it but eh, was hoping it'd be more disconnected from the manosaba girls
>>50518922Sakaki Kasa and Niijima Yuu seem pretty busy so I wonder who would even write it if there was one.

wow, kakyuusei 2 really sucks. it's just a much inferior product to the first one in general
>>50518516i played the trial but i couldn't stand the writing style, it sucks cause I wanted to like the game so bad. the sol scenes were painful to read. also the UI sucks.
>>50519255Yes. That's the real reason why it's disliked/flopped.
>>50519080Hey I remember putting this on my backlog years ago and never getting around to it. I think I have it downloaded somewhere but never was aware there was some patch. Thanks for the info.

Any recommended order for Kanon? I figure Ayu is for last given she's obviously the main girl, but are there any opinions on the rest? I decided to finally play this one to start the new year.
>>50521442Shiori -> Makoto -> Ayu is a good order for exploring the main theme of the game, as they build on each other. Nayuki and Mai's routes work with different themes and feel more detached from the other routes as a result, you can play them whenever you want but you probably won't want to save them for last.
>>50518003You think all the delays help them because they can start on their next game earlier?

God... only minuites in and already I can tell this is hundreds of times beter than modern VN slop put out today, the cg, the writing, it's so much better.
>>50521885>Is it really that bad?Not at all, I'd say it's fairly mild actually. It's not bad, just the presentation is very annoying. If it didn't constantly rub you in the face with it and the framing was more "you had that in the past, and you have me now", it would have been perfect. I'd say most of the insult comes from her being osananajimi. It's understandable people went batshit insane over this, because it's off putting, but it's not that bad.>And as a followup, is Tamaki a heroine good enough to justify her actions changing visual novels forever? She's definitely top tier but not among the best of the best. She's a more mass appealing type. She's worth seeing, I'd say.
>>50522362 (me)Also the worst CG about this (the BF putting his hand in her crotch) is really hard to get, even with a guide, so most of the players will not see that.
>>50518469Meteor World Actor kinoanemoi kinoEve Bethel kinoDimension Lovers kinoAnd as bonus, Red Garden getting a release date.
Sana is cute! CUTE! is Sana edition's common route the same as the regular games?
>>50522413No, they had to rewrite her character to not be a seething man-hating lesbian so Palette just sold her route apart because the difference with the main game would be too jarring.
>>50522425>her character to not be a seething man-hating lesbianbut her being a seething man-hating lesbian and MC crushing her defences and making her a cocksleeve is the best part...
>>50522185Finished the first route, thank god it was the girl I liked, It's forced route story and she came first. It's just a shame I didn't know the h-scenes came back to back, I would have did the edging trick where you can orgasm multiple times in a row, if you know you know.

>unskippable section with song and credits right afterFinished Miki route from Aonatsu line and it’s the best osananajimi route in fiction. Very happy to have finished her route today specifically. It’s not a love triangle btw, not even close.
>>50522519>it’s the best osananajimi route in fictionReally? I'll put it on my list. Too bad I started it in summer and dropped it as I wasn't feeling the writing.
>>50522519I finished it back in July so peak summer vibes. Aonatsu Line is the quintessential 青春 summerge. It has misunderstandings, drama, unrequited crushes, self esteem issues etc and best of all it's not very long because each scene doesn't waste your time.
>>50522462They already have a gacha which they were talking about in the previous paragraph. Here's the full statement which should clear things up.
>>50517611Purplesoft teaser is a Mikage game.
How good is Lalajam Tsukimi route at romance? Or is it just a band story?
>>50522519>>50522591Add sibling romance/sex and it would be GOTY.

>>50522871>Turning lesbians back into straight is good though, is this what actually happens? Is there a graceful example of this? Like one where the MC treats her kind and she steps back out on her insistence and LARP'ing. Not just "dick was too good muh niggah" bs
>>50522836There was a bunch of various side content for this game, the thing I talk about is a sidestory novel with horohana's characters in text format that was hosted on circle website. You can still read it by pasting http://nfs.boo.jp/bouquet/nfs/remembrance/vividness into archiveorg, but the illustrations that I seek aren't archived. Also there's a blog post by a fan that covers all the side content, https://note.com/amaginoboru/n/nb55dd7c96d83
>>50522890Thats not how being a lesbian works.
>>50522916You could try to contact the blogger:https://magierosempai.blog.shinobi.jpSince he was so autistic to make his own patch for the original game, he probably has backed up all of it.>if you manage to get it, please post it over here too, for archival purposes.
>>50522917>being a lesbianbeing generous, i'm skeptical there are more than 500 true lesbians in this world right now. mostly, it's just a strategy to lure in a dominant and socially successful male
>>50522931if he backed up the original patch he wouldn't make his own lol
>>50522931In his blog post, he says he's talked with the original author, so he may have a better chance.

Why is every old VN full of cuckshit?
>>50523458Economic bubble burst. Lost Decade.
New learner here, how the hell did you guys bother learning onomopoeia and the such? Is it just one of those things you figure out from context or from repetition?
>>50523479i just feel them out but yeah there are way too fucking many of those
>>50523479Before answering that, I'd like to know why you decided to post this here instead of the thread dedicated to Japanese learning.
>>50523479For me it was repetition, after years you "feel it" and now which is which
>>50523479If I can't figure it out and it's really bothering me I look it up. Kotobank has pretty good definitions for onomatopoeia, so I usually start there. Most of the time you can just ignore it and move on without missing too much, and you'll get a feel for them through experience in the long term. You don't have to stress out too much about the nuance of words like どジャアァぁぁぁ〜ン when you're a beginner.
>>50523458Back then there were more people buying VNs, so you didn't risk bankruptcy if your game had a controversial theme. Now with the declining otaku population writers have to walk on eggshells to avoid offending chiigyu sensibilities.
>>50523525This is the answer to "why do newer games not have cuckshit?" not "why is every old VN full of cuckshit?"
>>50523479Context + "feeling" of the sound as well as just looking them up.
>>50523537Cuckoldry is a pretty old theme. Shakespeare wrote about cuckoldry, Cervantes wrote about cuckoldry, Dostoyevsky wrote about cuckoldry, every other Victorian novel has some form of cuckoldry in it. It's just an easy to way to create drama. Why newer games don't have any cuckoldry is in fact the harder question to answer.
>>50523458Well it was a different time. People are less insecure about their worth and less obsessed with purity. If a girl leaves you for someone else you just find someone better (after punching the other guy in the face if it's actual NTR) or just take the girl back by showing how much better you (and your dick) are. Back in the days even main stream RPGs from Square have NTR.
>>50523560>It's just an easy to way to create dramaIn other words a lazy hack's favorite trick
>>50523560>Cuckoldry is a pretty old theme. The manner was very different however. When old visual novels do NTR, in most cases it can be removed from the story and nothing important will change. Classical authors on the other hand embarked on meaningful psychological or social explorations.

>>50523613>this thread helps out with jp learning more than the jp learning thread ironically enoughwho knew that people who already know japanese would give better advice than those who don’t....
>>50523611NTR in a story is the most basic and uncreative way of psychologically affecting a person, everyone will respond emotionally from being cukolded there's nothing special or literarily unique about that form of drama
The selling point of eroge lay not primarily in its ability to divulge a nice cathartic sex scene and illustrate from start to finish a bond crafted from hero to heroine, but rather in its ability to extrapolate on the identities of its male characters and put in center-stage not a feminine element as so often plagues so many other media but instead a principally masculine visage. What I mean by that is, most every other Japanese media out there, irrespective of the perceived selling mechanic point behind which their story unfurls, find themselves unable to actually depict a male character in full and follow along his journey independent, psychically, of other entities. It's strange. They're always caught up in explicating on a truthfully meaningless narrative or, as more commonly seen, on the female character. So strong is the influence of 'heroine' in web novels and manga and all others that they consume the souls of entire projects and warp all contents in a story around them, a feat coming at the expense of potential endearing. Ironically, that's not the case in eroge... despite that eroge is all about heroines. It's a paradox. But perhaps not. Resolving the mystery can simply be answered such: "you'll have your fill of sex and all the delicacies, so let's focus on something else, alright?" That's how eroge begins. In point of all this, just look at the attention garnered by the male characters from VNs and eroge compared to everything else. They shake the world. Well, why does that happen? Why do VNs have such great male characters? It must be because they're male characters proper. They're characters anchored in stories that give them life completely and in the process of their filling enjoin them with the purest of elements rather than a deliberate obsoleting in making them merely a half that needs be filled up with the separate poison called 'heroine'. Muramasa doesn't conjure the image of a woman before all else. It conjures the image of Kageaki. Dies irae doesn't conjure the image of a woman. It conjures Reinhard and Mercurius. Danganronpa doesn't conjure the image of a woman. It conjures the image of Nagito. Whether well known or otherwise, the face of eroge, least the worthwhile ones, isn't that of a woman, it's a man, and precisely because it starts so, with 'Adam', they present stories that push to zeniths great and vast just as in mimicry of God the greatest craftsman. This is why nothing defeats eroge. They tell and are concerned with stories of men, of 'heroes', not 'heroines', and stories of men are the only thing that matter. The primordial archetype is infinite. Try reading a manga and whatever. You'll quickly find them all throwing away exploring the constituent 'I' of its male characters and substituting that with the bothers a woman. They don't give a shit for the male characters. Everything exists in complement to a woman, and as you can imagine, that's a perversion of Divine Order wherein everything otherwise exists in complement to and in subservience of men. All creators everywhere in Japan turn to eroge if they want inspiration for anything just as the world turns to men and pleads them to effectualize their spark to create, to manage, and to do their job as vicegerents of earth. We run to the eroge where there are men for everywhere else there is only 'half-men' or women.
>>50523653>Muramasa doesn't conjure the image of a woman before all else.Conjures Muramasa's fat ass for me
>>50523653>Danganronpa doesn't conjure the image of a woman. It conjures the image of NagitoI still find it funny that people overlook Nagito because he's in a goofier and more popular series, when he's one of the best written characters
>>50523653The anon is arguing that eroge and visual novels succeed artistically because they center fully realized male protagonists rather than orbiting everything around heroines. His claim is that most Japanese media reduces male characters into relational husks whose inner lives exist only to service female characters or shallow plot mechanics, while eroge, paradoxically, frees the male lead to be psychologically complete because sex is already “handled,” letting the story focus on identity, will, and conflict.
>>50523653I do admit that eroge are easier to get immersed for a male reader than manga but that comes with an age paradox, eroge are 18+ and noone above this age unironically immerses into fiction. Besides I don't remember for shit the personality nor looks of male protagonist of many ges, yet easily remember heroines
>>50523751>noone above this age unironically immerses into fiction?????????

As for the chuuni part: the battles in the trial were kind of underwhelming, they remind me more of anime than any chuuni kino VNs. The plot might be decent, depending on how the internal conflict in some H.A.Z.E. members regarding how they have to sacrifice MC and his friends' hopes in order to save their dying world is handled.
>>50524389>>50524574It's basically just Fortissimo but worse and without the kino insert songs.

I'm curious what percentage of JOPs demonstrate weaker comprehension of Japanese than the current state-of-the-art LLMs. 40%?
>>5052816020% of jops have 80% text comprehension80% of jops have 20% text comprehensionsota llms are 95% at least
>>50528160The problem is that nowadays everyone who sets up a texthooker and is learning Japanese call themselves JOPs, some never graduate this and still "learning Japanese" after 5+ years, so a lot. If you can't comfortably read a VN without a hooker and with at most 10 look-ups for entire game, you're not a JOP, you are still a learner. For real JOPs it's 0% on rare occasions when it matters.
>>50528075Sadly this community is now full of zoomers and yeah, they dont care about quality at all
>>50528212using a hooker alone disqualifies you from being a jop

I’ll just share my thoughts on Shigatsu overall while everything is still relatively fresh. If I missed some nuances, please do tell me my Japanese is not perfect, and I had to often look up words.Overall, I would say the game was pretty good. The characters were likable and unique, the story had some cool twists, and it was fairly hard for me to predict. The idea of taking a classic trope like “my dead friend/relative” and turning it on its head like this was great. If I had to pick a favorite character, it would probably be Erina. The author did a good job connecting everything together, and there were many moments where I looked back and thought, “Ah, that’s where that came from.” Considering the gigantic size of the work, this was surely not an easy task. That said, one of my main complaints is that some of the characters’ actions are hard to follow or rather, hard to believe given who they are and the situations they’re in.For example, Mifuyu not only kills Ryouji, but skins him alive and leaves him to be eaten by birds. All because he tried to convince her to let them take care of Haruka? I suppose she’s already crazy at that point, but still. What makes this even stranger is that Akane, in some routes, simply accepts what Mifuyu did and even says she isn’t angry at her. Even considering their bond, this wasn’t just murder it was torture. And given that they never killed any of the kids either, what is going on here? After reading the developer’s notes, it seems this part of the story was expanded later with Shigatsu Youka. Other characters’ insane behavior is usually justified by the green eyes, but that explanation doesn’t work for her, since she isn’t a third generation.Another thing I found odd is how Shigatsu Youka chooses the four people. Sure, it’s partially controlled by the goddess, but even without her influence it seems extremely selective. Couldn’t it create these four within minutes? It knows this is its win condition, yet it seems strangely fixated on very specific people with existing connections. On top of that, it also appears to always be nearby, listening to what people say. For example, in the alternative ending, Haruka calls it simply by stepping out of the car and yelling. It feels like it had way too many ways to either win instantly or prevent any defeat, yet it just doesn’t use them. That struck me as odd. Also, the fact that it just randomly had Natsumi’s balloon was kind of funny.Overall, I feel like a lot of characters do extremely gruesome things and are then quickly accepted or forgiven. When it’s revealed that they sent Mifuyu drugs to help save their kids indirectly causing many murders it feels like they apologize and that’s the end of it. That’s probably my biggest complaint: the consequences feel lacking. Natsumi’s parents in particular behave very strangely on many occasions. That being said, it was still a very cool read, and I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you all for the recommendation!
>>50525770>>50526026>>50526102I'm in the middle of this route right now, just got done with dec24 event, and I actually started to think it's really good. It could use a bit more idealization though. As anon said in previous thread, I think the reason why Kakyuusei 2 is disliked is because the game overall sucks in comparison to the first one, but Tamaki route is probably better than anything in the first game.
>>50528212>For real JOPs it's 0% on rare occasions when it mattersIt's not like looking up a word is a bad thing. If you don't know it you look it up. There's no shame in that. I've read 10+ hours before without pulling out a dictionary at times and other times I check every other word just to make sure I catch every little detail even if I should already know them. I'm fully bilingual though so that's just me. If we're strictly talking about clout farming online by being a jishou JOP then using a hooker is more proof than any that you aren't a JOP.
>>50528424Does it have "a meaningful point to take home" like Umineko or Higurashi, something from which everything originates, a bold statement?

>>50528842Same. Sometimes it feels like ableism when JOPs bully MTLers or EOPs.
Do you guys still find favorites? How often do your top 10 lists change? My primary medium is visual novels and only one or two change per year. And the first VN I've read is still my absolute favorite. As someone who enjoys this medium, I find it painful that it's harder to make a very good VN than it is to make a very good anime.

I started playing KimiNozo Enhanced Edition as my first eroge of 2026, and I'm loving it so far. I'm not that far in so I have no clue what to expect but it's really good, the character interactions are all fun and the movement of the sprites are so impressive. There are so many eye/head movements and tachie variations it's crazy, it's been so long since I played MLA that I don't remember if it was like this. Also, I'm in love with Mitsuki. (please side eye me more Mitsuki unffff)

Lmao I didn't see that coming but I guess I should've expected something like that from the Muv-Luv writer. The prologue was really great though and Akane is adorable, but I have mixed feelings on the twist and the time skip. Though opening up with Mitsuki sex as the next scene after Haruka gets rammed by a car is very spicy. I'm just worried the game will get too caught up in one-upping itself with shock value. I honestly don't remember much about MLA besides the gory death scenes so idk.
>>50530645It's a pretty cute moege. Nothing special, but does what it does well.
>>50530880So you’re already past that infamous Takayuki x Mitsuki scene in ch 2 lol, what a messed up relationship. but sadly this VN doesn’t show you much of what ACTUALLY happened during pre-timeskip, mostly just tell (c’mon show don’t tell). when reading ch 2 I used to think that Takayuki started to going out with Mitsuki because he ALREADY knew that she liked him since high school, but Mitsuki’s route broke my assumption… whenever I talk about these two my heart aches…Agreed Akane best girl. She’s protective, Haruka’s guardian but unlike annoying siscon-ish sister character in VNs
What haruka should’ve done
>>50530960This is what makes me think Maruto was inspired by kiminozo since WA2 does the same thing. The timeskip isn't as severe in WA2 though since the game shows the big happenings Haruka/Mitsuki is a different dynamic than Setsuna/Kazusa though. I think I like Mitsuki more than Kazusa but Setsuna is better than Haruka.
>>50531024Only watched WA2 anime but my friend told me that Takayuki is better than Haruki since Takayuki has redemption arc in Mitsuki’s route while Haruki is an insufferable big liar lol I’ll try WA2 VN someday

reminder to not respond to obvious troll posts
>>50528528>It's not like looking up a word is a bad thing. Not at all. Everyone does it in every language. If you watch Japanese natives trying to read on youtube they can't read anything even slightly obscure and they either ignore those words or wait for their chat to read for them. Or sometimes decide to look up themselves. They still obviously know Japanese. This is not the same thing as Japanese learners who hover over every other word in hopes that eventually they will not. Spoiler, they never do and keep relying on hooker to read forever. Proof? There are discords with quizzes that test your ability to read words without hovering and hookcucks can never pass anything beyond very basic everyday words no matter how long they study and how much they read. 10 years ago JOP meant at least some understanding and knowledge of Japanese, nowadays JOP is "I dowloaded my first VN in Japanese, I also do my Anki every day, 10 thousand cards backlog, bow down EOP peasants". We call them "eternal learners" because no matter how many decades passes, they never leave the phase of thinking about themselves as active learners of Japanese
>>50534445>"eternal learners"Well this is not really an insult. Everyone is an eternal learner if you're serious about mastering a skill. I doubt you know everything about your mother tongue, let alone your second language. I do agree that people should drop hooking as soon as they can though (if they even need to use it in the first place).
>>50528212You're a retarded troll but if you're going to be reading something with a unfamiliar topic or writing style in any language, you will be reading slowly and looking up everything. Why do you think people take forever to interpret research papers, legal documents or even Shakespeare in English? The retards who spend 10+ years hooking and bragging about it probably are MTLing everything blindly without thought and Anki grinding so basically nothing.
>whitenoising= jop
>>50534494>I doubt you know everything about your mother tongueIt's different because myself or any other human would not consider themselves to be active learners of their language, even if they do learn new words and get better every day. Even ESLs eventually get over it, see themselves as knowing English and start improving passively. There's something special about eternal learners who after 5 years still just hover over words adding them to anki and have a hobby "learning Japanese" in their bio who will now come out of the woodworks to cope how it's normal. >>50534538>You're a retarded troll but if you're going to be reading something with a unfamiliar topic or writing style in any language, you will be reading slowly and looking up everything.Looks like you are the retarded one because I never said or implied anything that should make you believe I think this is not true.
