Were bombers instrumental to WW2?
>>64685539According to the American post-war bombing and logistics studies, the results of bombing in Europe were moderately helpful - but the total cost paid for it was highly inefficient compared to buying more ground troops. The war in Europe would have been won quicker without the investment in air power.
>>64690791This was because they had to figure out how to bomb first, though.Once the Americans figured out what tactics to use and which targets to hit, they ended the German industry in six months.Would've been faster if Harris hadn't been a retard, too.A learning curve was inevitable, but if Harris hadn't been obstinate in his desire to kill as many Englishmen as possible through using aircraft that escaping from was almost impossible and bombing meaningleas targets, they could probably have finished the war by Christmas '44.
>>64685539hell yeahjust considering the defensive resources consumed, at its peak strength Nazi Europe's AA umbrella comprised a million men and tens of thousands of heavy and light AA guns. if there had been no strategic bombing campaign, imagine a million extra men and all those guns used in the anti-tank role on the Eastern Front. there'd be at least one extra Flak 88 for every platoon of T-34s.meanwhile, strategic bombing was instrumental to achieving air superiority in 1944 - but not for the reason you think. RAF bombers basically stonewalled the entire German effort to expand fighter engine production, which is part of how the Allies managed to build more fighters than the Germans.the impact on other weapons and equipment manufacture, and tank manufacture which had to be dispersed instead of concentrated in one efficient mega-production line as the Allies did, is literally incalculable but must be significant due to the supply shortage of these items reported even before the Normandy landings>>64687037>Strategic bombers far less sonopart of the reason that late-war German tanks are said to be "maintenance heavy" is really because the entire repair and parts supply chain was being bombed to smithereens, which is a factor not accounted for by both sides of the Shermaboo Wehraboo conflictTiger tanks for example had average availability rates only slightly less than Allied tanks (~80%) when they and their workshops were not being bombed to pieces before ever seeing the enemy, i.e. on the Eastern Front>>64690791Comment too long. My great grandfather was a decorated officer in the US Airforce during the Korean War. My great uncle has a display case with his medals, and his service rifle, which is a select fire M2 Carbine. I haven't inspected it closely, so idk if it's functional or demilitarized. If it is functional idk if it registered or transferable.Has anyone heard of a scenario like this before? I can't find any examples online of an officer being given an M2 when they retired. I'm also certain that it is an M2, not an M1 Carbine. My great uncle plans to give me his guns, including that one at some point in the near future. Obviously I hope it's transferable, but I think that could only be the case if it was registered when he retired. I doubt that he submitted any paperwork for it later in his life, and I know that my great uncle never did.Any thoughts or advice?

>>64689395TLDR
Why are (I guess more were, because a lot of newer rifles don't come with sights) ramped beads a thing when posts/blades are simpler and pretty much every military decided they were better and standardized on them?
>>64690497Bc the fudds aren't dead yet
>>64690497Simpler isn't necessarily better, it's cheaper, which matters when a military is making rifles by the millions but isn't really a factor if Bubba wants to buy a nice hunting rifle. Also keep in mind the level of precision is very different. Militaries are usually concerned about scoring a hit on a human torso, whereas the vital area of most game is a lot smaller than that.Sporting rifles have many different kinds of iron sights, the type of which will be matched to the purpose of the gun. A dangerous game rifle has express sights which are min-maxed for speed at the cost of precision, a target rifle has globe sights, etc.

Not much of a statement besides that the flight time was a little under three hours, they mentioned it 'flew along the flight orbit set in the sky above the West Sea of Korea' which typically means they did something fancy like draw a pair of figure eights or something like that to show off.The statement was very short and there were only two images, usually this means that the next day there will be another announcement with significantly more detail when they know it didn't go wrong. The long flight time is why the launch images are at early dawn but the impacts are in daylight.1/2
