How effective were these things? Obsidian is said to be extremely sharp and multiple edges instead of one straight blade might be extremely painful.

Objectively they had complex written language, monumental architecture, astronomy and mathetmatics, metalsmithing up to copper, large resorvoirs, complex agricultural praxis and fine arts like sculpting, painting and pottery.
They missed out completely on bronze and iron development, mechanical principles (no siege engines or similar machines) and medicine.
It's a different trajectory, but their world view was shattered by the existence of the Spanish, since they didnt need to sacrifice anyone and were still fine, had greater technology, and horses. This destroyed the authority of the Aztec elites and made their fall inevitable.
>>
>>64634475
It's easy to pronounce and remember. For Aztecs and Mayas.
>>
>>64634465
I haven't made a macuahuitl yet but I have knapped enough obsidian to know how sharp it is. One time I dropped a tiny obsidian flake which I doubt weight more than a couple grams on my foot and it cut deep enough to cause a few minutes of bleeding even though it fell under it's own weight. Descriptions of it cutting almost entirely through the body don't surprise me.

The main issue that comes to mind with the macuahuitl is that obsidian is extremely fragile. The sharp edge wears down extremely rapidly especially on a flake or blade like those used in a macuahuitl. If I was trying to supply an army I might prefer to use weapons made from chert which are far more durable although I don't think chert is particularly abundant in Mesoamerica. It might have been more efficient to use obsidian due to it's low cost relative to more durable stones.
>>
>>64705207
>>64637164
The thing is they had absolutely shitloads of obsidian. There's tons of Mesoamerican forts where they excavated stockpiles of obsidian for weapon production. Fragility of obsidian doesn't matter when it's trivial for them to replace the blades.

Counting the ones on the dock and on the deck, there would be 6 CCA + 1 recon UAV for that container ship, which can still carry 24 VLS (the dedicated arsenal ship carried 60) launchers while only displacing 5000 tons. Larger container ships will be able to carry even more I bet, since they're larger than even supercarriers...

If china had truly solved all the bottlenecks of a survivable, high sortie DC launcher, we would see other derivative technologies in exports. We'd see chinese railguns, maglev hybrid launches ect. ect. I dont think either side has a fully mature system (like steam) because there hasn't been enough time. However if I were to make a choice, I would choose AC because of the corrosion issues. With DC one side is permanently anodic- meaning the metal atoms continuously oxidize .... pitting, erosion and contact burnthrough ect. You would have to constantly maintain the system. Maybe if they used an insulating fluid that could also work as cooling - but who knows, we might get to figure out whose is best in 2026! :D the US launched the x-47b off a carrier in 2013 from a traditional steam catapult so im gonna put my money on the americans for the most mature tech.

>>
>>64704024
Not him, but its literally just a block of magazines stuck together. The rounds even have their feed order on them in that diagram.
Each magazine presents a round to the top row, and the "feeding lever" pushes the entire top row along, loading the front-most round. It then cycles back far enough to let the last magazine push up a new round, and repeats. So it does the first row, then all of the rear-most magazine, and then the second rear-most, etc. until the entire casette is empty. You then swap the entire casette.
Honestly its pointless and LSAT was right to just use polymer belt links for their CL spiral same as their CT spiral.

Su27's a bit slower but turns better and can close the gap faster then an f15 if we're talking about a close range dog fight in less then 3km but if we're doing a long range fight at like 20 to 30km I'd say the f15 wins cause shitty Soviet radars ain't very good.

That line of reasoning is obviously incorrect, given that we have proof of exactly that, namely a skeletonized all-metal war hatchet, rather than a hafted one (which would theoretically use less metal).
>>

we have both, since one evolved from the other and subsequently fell into obscurity again. as to why it appeared it could be many things from durability to a status symbol to whatever else but it's utterly retarded to assume it's because casting the thing out of bronze was easier than to find a wooden shaft.

The Finnish BT-42. Installing a massive box turret on top of a light tank made it slow, top heavy and unreliable, and as the final insult the new gun ended up being completely useless at tank-to-tank fighting and completely defeated the purpose of the project to begin with. Only 18 ended up being made and for good reason, the Finns got a lot more mileage out of just capturing and salvaging Soviet armor and relegating the BT-42 to shooting at buildings and other easier targets with its howitzer.

>>
>>64703183
Well Pietta made a mess out of reproducing Starr double action Civil War muzzle-revolvers, I hear.
But Griswald and Gunnison made Remington 1858s with double action lockwork. There's a guy on the net HAD ONE THAT WORKED and he disassembled it and can't put it back together. So that would prolly be a super-abortion if the spaghetti-snappers made clones.
Can't blame an ol' bassard for wishin' though...
>>
Depends.
The Colt Dragoon has the classic big dick aesthetic of the Colt Walker with 90% of the power and a better design.
The Colt 1851 is most people's favorite of the classics and is pretty light if that's your thing.
The Remington 1858 is probably the best historical black powder revolver with much better sights and a stronger frame.
The Ruger Old Army is the most technically superior black powder revolver, but it was also designed in the 70s, so it's not really historical and at that point I don't know why you'd bother with it.
As somebody who loves these guns, you shouldn't be using percussion revolvers for any kind of self-defense. Remove fun and style from the self-defense equation.
>>
>>64704460
Tbph original DA Starr revolvers were also crappy, the whole double trigger self cocking clusterfuck was a gimmick that didn't work in 50% of all cases, Pietta only recreated a historically accurate mess.

because no military cares about smgs anymore since they'd rather issue sbr rifles. sheriffs/swat are about the same unless they have a old stash of mp5's from the 80's sitting around in the armory

as for the bizon, mags were shit and so was the caliber. vityaz was what they should have made the first go around, but again why use 9mm when ak104 or AS val exist. the ppk20 seems pretty based and modern for slavshit and it survied a 3k burndown without blowing up or jamming

It's almost time for $0 tax stamps. You can finally, legally, have fun. Buy a $400 P1S from Bambu, some Pa6-cf filament from polymaker, and get to work.

Some 3dp2a guys released the FTN 5.0 suppressors recently. There are suppressors for pistols, pcc's, and rifles. Let's talk about the last one.

To start out you will need ONE of these muzzle devices:
>Breek threaded muzzle+ Castle Shield <-Best one
>KAK slimline micro flash can
>1/2x28 to 3/4x16 thread adapter

Now you can print an insert that will attach the suppressor body to the muzzle device. The breek insert is a clamshell design. Put the two halves onto the castle shield and screw on the suppressor assembly. The other two will need some epoxy.

IF you want the suppressor to be permanent, epoxy the threads of the insert and suppressor body. It'll help with the longevity and make a better gas seal.

The main body will NEED to be supported by a sleeve. You can print the sleeve, but the lifespan is shorter with a lot of restrictions. You can use a 56mm ID and 60mm OD aluminum OR carbon fiber tube with jb weld. You can also use fiberglass and resin wrapped around the tube, but this is less effective.

>>64703996
True.
>>
>>64704807
It is but anything smaller is kind of not even a trade off, just a waste, otherwise you would probably see such devices in the very tacticool conscious 3 gun circles here in Europe where everyone's got a suppressor or two
>>
>>64705062
As a European, those circles are very downstream from the Americans, IMO.
>>
>>64705111
And? I don't think Americans are longing for blast cans with extra steps either, they want suppressors.
>>
>>64705132
Unless they want to retain really short length, which a full suppressor works against. You put a proper suppressor on a Mk.18 and it's as long as an M4A1, you put on a device just for dampening blast, and it's gonna make a short carbine far less loud than typical, and it's still gonna be a short carbine.
To a lesser extent there's also the matter of weight.

I do think that normal suppressors would be a lot more common, but a simple device like this makes sense for the same reason it made sense 60 years ago.

Boring topic but I'm finally happy with what I've cobbled together from different components I've acquired over the years. Covers 5.56, 7.62, and 40mm bores.

I'm a milfag who works for a living so no 9mm handgun for me. Does double duty for both my personal rifle and my issued weapons.

>1. Repurposed Otis 5.56/9mm Defender cleaning kit pouch
Not the only thing that'll work, but I like that it clamshells open. Got it as a gift. I pulled most of the extra shit out of it because having pull through cables and bore snakes in addition to a full on sectional cleaning rod is just redundant. Use one or the other.

>2. Two rags
Just a cut up t shirt. One for wiping shit off with, one for laying small parts on. PSA: You can, in fact, wash these every once in a while.

>3. Otis stiff bristle brush
Have gone back and forth on carrying a brass one too but I've either never needed it or the shit was baked on so hard (M240 gas plug) I had to use a scraper.

>4. Plastic pick
For all the things a long, slim, pointy object is good for when trying to clean tight spaces.

The mystery chinkium ones off amazon or ebay are really fragile. Bend at the slightest flex and like to rust. 8-36 threads with an 8-32 adapter.

The Otis made ones are nicely made but basic. Phosphate coated. 8-32 threads as standard.

KleenBore coats their GI rods with the same thing they do their one piece rods if that makes you feel better. 8-36 threads with 8-32 adapter. HK licenses it for their commercial 416 sales.
