What gun would you use to take down a serial killer elephant?
>>64759325The other books get a little hard in the writer's self insert but it's still fun. The entire premise is interesting (peoplewith actualgun/explosive knowledge rolling up on cryptids with equipment instead of a flashlight and bible), and the writer knows his shit. Just don't get caught off guard by the werewolf sex.
>>64753299This.
>>64759312>>64759325I regret buying it, actually. I got the No.1 in .416 Rigby without realizing that's primarily a bolt action cartridge. I should have gotten a Ruger bolt gun or a CZ550 for the same money back then. Now those have been discontinued and the prices have gone insane. Or maybe a No.1 in a rimmed safari caliber. Although the No.1 isn't as slick as it looks. Inside the receiver is just rough cast metal.
>>64759607>Werewolf sexThat sounds gay as fuck, unless she's in human form I guess. Still not a fan of smut in my cool monster-hunting stories though. Thanks for the heads-up. Do you remember which book that was?
>>64753287I would keep sending it victims until it died from exhaustion.
With modern lasers, capacitors, and power plants how many 500 lb JDAMs could be shot down if all were targeting the laser?Let's assume 2 kilometers altitude, 1000 km/h speed.Could they even do 1?
What's the mechanism a laser disables a JDAM? Fry its fuse? Its laser guidance package? Detonate its explosives? Do modern US bombs have explosives that explode when they get hot?
>>64760506>With modern lasers, capacitors, and power plants how many 500 lb JDAMs could be shot down if all were targeting the laser?Realistically like, maybe one? Lasers aren't anywhere near powerful enough to be instantly popping incoming munitions, they require time on target. And even if they were that fast, heat buildup prevents shooting for significant lengths of time. And then even if you did solve these problems, you'd start coating munitions in ablative material for use against lasers.
>>64760506Lasers are good against missiles and drones because all it needs to do is disable or render inaccurate the thing pushing the munition forward.A gravity bomb following a ballistic trajectory is going to hit roughly the same place whether you blind it or cook its guidance or whatever. It's going to be much harder for a laser to hard kill destroy a JDAM before it hits the ground.
Turns out I was wrong. idk where I read that Teddy liked peep sights, I know the one letter is about him buying a .22 with peep sights https://www.theodorerooseveltcenter.org/digital-library/o293878/it must have been for the Smithsonian African tripI'll post the other version of the letter in the next post but, it turns out he always used what are basically express sights with a u notch in the bottom with a ramped front bead. https://www.loc.gov/resource/mss38299.mss38299-363_0001_0271/?sp=106&r=0.447,0.157,0.595,0.233,0in his autobiography he specifically mentions drawing a bead on things, including an injun. he also straight up couldn't shoot for shit. He even admits he was a piss poor long range shot due to his shit eyes. eyes so she he couldn't get peeps to work. Peeps must still be the most accurate because every shooting competition that allows peeps but doesn't allow a scope has everyone using peeps over open sights. I wonder if he would use a red dot today or if his eyes were so shit he's seethe about the starburst

It's been talked to death why space fighters are impractical but let's say the stupid rich dictator of the third world asteroid colony is dead set on having his fighter jets in space. What would a "realistic" space fighter look like? What do you have to consider about space as a medium?
>>64760301Not just being a jet plane in space for starters I guess. Its a totally different environment, lack of gravity and needing to worry about radiating heat and the other rigors of the space environment.
>>64760301>fighters Are actually very practical, especially as drones.
>>64760301>realistic "fighter"A drone swarm control ship. The drones would have a bunch of missiles.>designate targets>upload to swarm>GTFO and let drones do their thingThat's what space fighters are going to be. A human telling a prelaunched and standby drone swarm to wake up, lock onto something, and do their job. They don't even need to look like atmospheric drones. You can pack missiles, terminal guidance, and reaction thrusters in a cylinder and have it sitting there in sleep mode with either a RTG or solar backup to keep it awake enough to receive a signal for years. Just launch a few more every so often to account for natural attrition.>but we want dogfights in spaceNever going to happen. Individual fighter craft engaging each other is ridiculous at exoatmospheric distances. It's going to be Macross missile spam forever.
>>64760503Couldn't fighters just participate in the missile spam instead of dogfighting?
Starting with this piece of shit. Any gun that gets a cracked frame within 20,000 rounds is an irredeemable hunk of absolute dogshit. That isn’t even a high round count for 9mm. Glock runs circles around beretta.

>>64747669Its interesting in that I've always seen jumbos using the flat welded front upper hull, where the extra armor lays flat. Having a flat plate over a round cast hull is not something I've seen before

Wait, so .380 is quite literally all you need?
>>64757681>why is .380 in this weird magic bullet territory of being small but still being effectiveBecause physics. That's all guns are, they are weaponized physics.>bullet too smallNot enough mass.>bullet not fly fastNot enough energy>bullet too bigBullet unlikely to fly fast.>bullet wrong shapeBullet not fly through air good. It's caveman physics.
Eh, for everything that isn't a collector piece I buy 9mm, 5.56, .308, and 12ga. Not because they are the best, but they are the most ubiquitous. No matter where you are you always have good ammo selection in those 4 calibers/ga. Any increased performance from different cartridges I'm really not going to notice.

Lockheed Martin's latest promotional video about their LRASM antiship missile engaging a Chinese Type 055 Cruiser launched from a F-35
>>64759922>Australia etcWut?They picked them up in 2020-2021 and got 200 of them, and as of at least 2024 have fired them off the F-35's. Doesn't sound like the Ausfags were crying about anything.Wait, are you that eternally asshurt indog that gets around shitting up any SEA thread?
>>64760477>Wait, are you that eternally asshurt indog that gets around shitting up any SEA thread?I think that's a butt hurt malay who hates Singapore and Australia equally. In any case, they didn't say anything about Singapore being CCP puppets so I don't think it's that particular tard
>>64760477The last I heard: The F-35C and recently the F-35B are undergoing testing and integration for the LRASM. Australians have been whining about the LRASM integration for their F-35A and also their SSN for a few years. No, I'm the American that hate most Americans and all foreigners.

>>64759319Here's a nice close up of the finish.
>>64759326Here's the original stock. Bubba had an absolute field day on it. He cut the butt down to fit a recoil pad on the end, removed the bolt takedown disc, plugged the slot for the sling and disc, cut it down past the original rear band, cut the handguard to match, used a new barrel band and crushed the handguard to fit it, all finished by sanding and a sloppy varnish. And it hurts because it was the original matching stock.
>>64759336And here's the new repro stock that took almost 2 years to get. Absolutely worth the wait though.
>>64759319>>64759326>>64759336>>64759354Nice job! Always a shame to see them bubba'd in the first place but the end result looks really fantastic. Did you get new barrel band springs or were they in the white already?

Got a 11" AR. I might be running it by itself, but pairing it with a 3x magnifier because I have a really bad eye sight when seeing far away. What should I zero it at so it can work up close for home defense, but also maybe 70-100yds too?

>>64759704I had a "gunsmith" do a total hack job on a 1911 I gave him once. All he was doing was switching out novak sights for tritium novak sights and when I got it back from him it was shooting way off and ftfing all of a sudden. I think the front sight he used was too short but that doesn't explain the ftfs
>>64759767hmmm was it a high dollar 1911?can any anon confirm if some gunsmiths sometimes do the jeweler switcharoos? maybe he replaced some of the components on your gun?
>>64759895Nah it was just a Ruger, and this was a while ago when they were like 6-700. I think he just boned it up, I had a bad feeling when he first took it apart and put it back together and got the order of the parts wrong.
>>64760116probably was too retarded to take the slide off the gun when installing sights with a hammer. fucked up the recoil spring or extractor with the pounding.
>>64760129That sounds about right, unfortunately I can't fix it because I lost that gun to unfortunate circumstances a few years ago. It was the first pistol I ever owned. Anyway I was asking because I'm finally about to replace it as the last thing I really want is a full size 1911, I was asking about the sights because if it's easy enough to do myself than I'd rather do it than give it to another one of these idiots
