is this a bad idea, or is this an AWESOME idea?
>>61466378Oto malarea has this for their 127mm gun and it's feed mechanism is massive
>>61466378What do you do when it jams?
>>61466378Uh... before that, where is the engine and tracks of your tank proposal?
>>61466385>>61466386don't worry about it
>>61466384it’s not really the sameanyway, here’s OP’s pic in practice, OTO’s proposed autoloader for the KPz-70 before the tank project was binned
>>61466404and here’s another proposal, still from OTO, this time on a Leopard
>>61466378Calls for one hell of a spring. Wouldn't wanna be the guy loading it.
>>61466404>>61466409fuckin' knew i was an OTO Melara sleeper agent, my suspicions affirmed
~1 sec reload6 shots
>>61466435I fucking hate this thing, ruined low tier WT
>>61466378Doesn't the Leclerc use a similar system?
>>61466506nope, it uses what’s called a cassette autoloader
a belt would be easier to manage in multiple ways. and there are obviously belt fed machine cannons but for the really large calibers it doesnt make much of a difference because the amount of ammo you can have in your tank is very limited so you cant go for high volume of fire anyway
>>61466435>>61466456Let me guess... you need more?
>>61466506>>61466515It's like a meld between the concept of an ammo belt and a conveyor belt.Or of a chain gun.
>>61466378Grossly unsafe unless it is totally wrapped in nigh-impenetrable armor or if is a negligible chance of actually being hit. The solution is to compartmentalize the ammo and gun at all times except loading like in Western bustle autoloaders. Not quite what you're thinking of and it's more like the mag is feeding an intermediary feeding mechanism rather than feeding the gun itself but whatever. >>61466415OTO Melara is based as fuck and consistently makes both the best gun-based weapon systems.
>>61466562>and consistently makes both the best gun-based weapon systems.fuck, meant to say "both the best and most innovative". They also make VULCANO shells which is also great.
>>61466562>>61466576OTO is fucking shit and the sole reason Italy isn’t more successful on the weapons export markett. knower
>>61466378>get hit>turret launches into space in a way that slavs can only dream about.
>>61466435>~1 sec reload>6 shotspathetic
i think the rationale here is that a human operator takes up less space then an autoloader of any kind.tanks have a rack for shells already and it works just fine. there also a distinct reason you wouldn't stack shells this way and that's to with the risk of plasma jets detonating rounds in the magazine.even if incoming fire kills the crew three tank often remains operable or salvegable, if the tank magazine blows up it destroys the tank and probably everything around the tank.tanks guns are designed specifically to pop off rather than contain a blast, and most tank panels are desugned to blow out individually
Also, anything bigger than .50 tends to reload with a revolver cannon, these are relatively compact, work both with and without auxiliary power, seperate the shells and there's not much that 6 tank shells won't destroy
>>61466780>i think the rationale here is that a human operator takes up less space then an autoloader of any kindIf that is the case, then why is tanks with autoloaders generally smaller then those with a conventional niggerloader?
>>61466385Cry and scream, if that doesn't work someone will probably kick it or hit it with something hard
>>61466739>1.5s reloadlol slowpoke
>>61466780>i think the rationale here is that a human operator takes up less space then an autoloader of any kindComplete opposite. Not only is a human loader a fourth crewman who will need be to accounted for thus more volume and weight, he's a fourth crewman who needs to be able to stand up and maneuver inside.
>>61466790Sounds like a nightmare to switch ammo.
>>61466385Tap, rack, bang
>>61466456Just play KV-1 and laugh at it.
>>61466378Not actually a new idea. The main problem is that tank gun scale shells are too heavy for practical mag springs. It also becomes something of a hazard since the ammo is stored in the same space as the crew and gun. Maybe we can revist the idea once unmanned turrets get more common.
Yes very impressive HOWEVER >Tank Enbloc Clip>BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM>*PIIINNNGGG*>*Smashes through the roof of a nearby house*
>>61468325You've convinced me
>>61468325Don't ask how they reload. You don't want to know.
>>61468490>military vernacular coins the new term of "garand arm"
>>61466404Pull the mag out and rack the slide a few times.
>>61466378IIRC US fucked around with the idea of a magazine fed autoloader for Abrams
>>61466385Pray
>>61468544It's like Garrand Thumb! But with more blood! Way, way more blood. VA still claims it's not a service related injury.
>>61466739this nigga, and the better nigga with the cool electroplasma gun, would be such a nice vehicle, but no its worse 2S38 and higher BR
>>61466385get out and smack a 2' wide forward assist button with the provided 80lb mallet
>>61466378Star wars looking.
>>61466378were they always called armor screens?
>>61466378You're not going to achieve, or need, machine gun rates of fire from a tank's gun. What's wrong with current autoloaders?
>>61466739I remember driving one of those with the 5th ID in Poland from '98 until the big sealift. The LAV-75 was a hell of a machine
