Thinking about getting a pic rail welded onto the receiver of my PTR-91. I've tried an MFI mount and a claw mount and neither one managed to hold zero very well. Anyone ever had Bill Springfield weld a rail onto their receiver? Is there anyone else I could send it to have it done?

NTA but there's literally no reason to go aftermarket for magazines. The FN magazines work great, are plentiful enough, and are robust. FN FAL mags are robust, these are too. They're basically metric FAL mags with a different cut for the magazine catch and a polymer block glued to the bottom to keep them rectangular in shape.
They just work, unlike Bethesda games.

its been a while lads, whats happened? seems like we're back to dumping on ptr. doesn't seem like rtg will be releasing the green wide handguards soon. the plan was to replace the slimguard for the wide, add the bipod and have 50+ round mags. currently looking for a telescopic stock but can't seem to decide. not sure if i want the a3 stock anymore, finding out that the stock only locks in 2 positions, fully collapsed or fully extended. considered a sight and magnifier but i won't have enough room on my rail probably. may opt for the lpvo now that the trend has died.

Hey that’s mine! Glad someone saved the pic. It’s an FNAR competition model (blue receiver). I bought it during covid for like $1,100. It has an infitech rail system and stock adapter.

Thr FNAR is discontinued but it’s the same exact rifle as the Browning BAR Mk.III DBM. Magazines are a little expensive but are high quality. Mine is stupendously accurate. A ragged hole at 100 yards with a full magazine using the bipod. It’s heavy and long, but I really feel like I can’t miss when shooting prone. Definitely a “DMR”.

I'm set off by AR10s in general. I've wanted to get one for a long time but most of the ones on the market seem to have cycling issues or weird proprietary parts that I don't want to tie myself to. S&W and Savage come to mind. As for Aero, the amount of issues and negative reviews I see about M5E1s steers me away. PSA AR10s get better feedback from what I've seen. I'm still a little iffy with them though.
Besides that, I hardly see issues past the $2.5k-$3k range so makes me think that these lower end rifles are hastily and poorly made
I'm probably overthinking desu

Clenzoil is a CLP, but somehow contains more solvent than my fucking Gold Guard. I mean thats nit a problem since others do the same (even Ballistol GUNEX). You mix 50% mineral spirit with some turpentine and gun oil and get similar effects. Ballistol conains chemicals that arent mineral spirit alike and those can indeed remove and soften NC deposit and also Copper. So for cleaning Ballistol >>> Clenzoil. So why do you use a heavy diluted gun oil that will loose 50% of its fucking mass by planned evaporation instead of a LP where 100% is oil? Thanks, gonna get a bottle of Clenz just for rust tests to see howit does against Breakfree CLP in terms of rust protection and evaporation rate.
>>61592398
same as Clenz but they only have 15-35% of real lubricant inside (msds), so its rather useful to blow out carbon than being a solid lubricant. If its a low temperature lubricant you will also se evaporation as worse as Breakfree CLP which is far from LPs like Lucas or Coom.

90% of my cleaning is done by ballistol in my case, I use clenzoil only to oil where metal meets metal because I saw that video from project farm where it performed really well in the lubricity test.
Honestly in my case any CLP is good enough since I regularly clean my guns after almost each range trip and reapply oil on the surfaces every month.
>>
>>61593488
I prefer fabric patches, embroidered type
>>
>>61593516
I know that video and the lubricity test is bullshit. You dont use a Timken Test to determin any skill besides how EP is and EP wont show upin guns. If you want a CLP that lubricates you should rather use Breakfree CLP and NOT Clenzoil since BF CLP contains no mineral spirit. The highest impact on gun wear is having the contact points wet and if possible removing carbon often since thats reducing wear too. TD;LR a good lube should contain 100% and a oil that is very slow in evaporation to keep the steel wet and that means high viscosity LP and full synthetic

So if somebody wants to join or is already in the testing gang make sure TO NOT clean your guns so you get the real shit to clean once you got it. Besides the important cleaner Im also sending a bore rust protectant that forms a greasy film that wont need to patched out before shooting, kind of neat
>>
>>61593545
I didn't understand shit, basically clenzoil is a good lubricant but it's undermined by the fact that it evaporates quickly? If so shouldn't I at this point just get tetra gun grease or any synth lithium grease fo contact places?
>>
>>61588632
What even is that? Looks awesome.
>>
>>61593743
Kind of correct, Clenz is a CLP and CLPs arent good at cleaning and when its MilSpec its also fast evaporating (like 2-3times faster). The worst part about Clenzoil or Ballistol GUNEX is that they are CLPs that got diluted by mineral spirit. That means within days 50% of the oil will be evaporated and than its switching to evaporation similar to CLP. That means you should use a good LP like Lucas Extrem Duty or Coomoil OR (dpending on gun) a grease. Compare a CLP and LP to gasoline and diesel, one will burn and evaporate very fast and the other wont. Kind of identical chemistry but the diffrence in carbon chainlengh/viscosity decides the evaporation and fire caracteristics. A candle is kind of similar, still hydrocarbon but a solid that wont evaporate like a liquid and for that reason gun oils loose rust protectin after evaporation from the surface while RemWax or Gold Guard wont since they´re wax style
Here viscosity of some chems. At identical viscosity a non-synthetic will evaporate faster than a synthetic which will also add up.
>gasoline <0,5 cst
>diesel <4,5 cst
>MilSpec CLP 20cst
>Coomoil >65cst

Shame, it's real good stuff imo, but there's tons of options out there and I hear good and bad all around, so I'm glad I found something that seems to "work" that I can kind of just "stick with". You'll find yours, bro.
I suppose some "cons", to me, about One Shot is that it seems to be a touch more pricy than some other options, and goes empty quite a bit quicker, ESPECIALLY if you're a tard like me and absolutely fucking HOSE the gun down with it.
>>
ES Tactical just put up a place holder for WLVRN conversion barrels on their site. Far more limited cartridge options then with the MDR but for those rare souls who want to hunt with an expensive gas bullpup in a straight wall state (all 5 of you) 350l and 450bush bullpups remain on the table for another generation apparently. While the way the wlvrn has gone down hasn't filled me with joy guess it's good 3rd party market didn't 100% die with it.

>Im not using them, just getting them to prevent myself releasing a underpowerd products... kind of reference when formulating.
Gotcha, wasn't following the conversation obviously, whoops.
As an aside, I was thinking of trying OneShot "against" CherryBalmz stuff, but they were having stock issues last time I checked, so I kind of just dropped it. That's more on the lube side than cleaner, but I just can't be asked to have a million different steps and products to clean my guns than just blasting it with OneShot and/or GunScrubber and calling it good, so I was thinking OneShot + CherryBalmz could be a sort of "bases covered" thing while cutting down on the absurd amount of OneShot I tend to go through, kek.
>>
>>61595862
Do you shoot often?
>>
>>61595633
ES had a LOT of caliber options for the MDR, though since that was discontinued they've sold out of most of those and seem to be winding it down, now only the bigger more popular ones are left. It's possible they'll ramp up offerings with the wlvrn, but of course since it's a different system the user base (which was never high, but maybe got up to 10-13k for the MDR by the end) is now reset from 0. Probably a bit of a wait-and-see approach in whether there's even enough business to justify doing more. I dunno if the new changes impose any limits in terms of oal or whatever, beyond fitting into 30cal.
>or Quattro mag
I can see why but also not. That'd require major rework of the receiver given how the trigger system works. So for something that's the "MDR3" basically, ie, it's the same fucking gun except with some more tweaks and major simplification to try to get their massive quality control problems somewhat better, I can understand not investing in that.

But of course they didn't call it the MDR3 they did a total rebrand with major breaking changes. In that respect yeah I don't understand their overall approach. Wlvrn feels like it's mostly about DT's business needs not customers, they had trouble fixing their QC and thus couldn't get FE or the like consistent, so they abandoned it totally, they couldn't get their barrels right so they changed all that around, they floated the gas block but then they didn't actually really do anything with it.
>375raptor
I'm so happy there is somebody else on this board who thinks of it. I wish it had won over 8.6bo a lot. But it's probably going to stay hyperniche forever and I don't expect random individual guys to support it.

>>

Fair points. I built the WLVRN up in my head a lot, so seeing what it actually is now is just... sad. Shaking my fist at the sky and all that I suppose.
>So for something that's the "MDR3" basically, ie, it's the same fucking gun except with some more tweaks and major simplification to try to get their massive quality control problems somewhat better, I can understand not investing in that.
I sorta get it, sorta don't. How much more expensive would it have been than to make a few thousand, tops, WLVRN's with their dwindling buyers like they seem to be doing than to try and really "refresh" not just "themselves", but the gun too, after the whole OG release debacle... I really don't know in the end though, just talking out my ass I guess, hence me not being a business owner, kek.
>.375 Raptor
Bro, you have no idea. I've had it all planned out for a while, just gonna take a bit of doing. The dies and whatnot are "easy enough" to come by, but the conversion(s) for NOT an AR10, a little trickier... I'll get there, just trying to finish up a few other projects atm before getting too far down some wacky rabbit hole and everything like that.
>>
>>61595996
Well, considering how everyone seems to be about your other stuff, I imagine it's p gud, so yeah, I might consider getting some. Is it up rn or just in test phase like last time?
>>
>>61596046
Emergency test phase, we try to get it into stores very early next year which means I cant add more nice Products for Anons while doing that. So only the cleaner (maybe 2 versions) with pump spray heads in 50mL bottles. I hope in 2 months it will be send to the USA so Anons have enouth time to test it out. I also got a designated rust inhibitor for the bore, that shit is nice and works pretty well. Its leaving a thin oil to grease film that prevents corrosion and can directly be shoot without messing with the bullet. Besides that the spray caps have 3 options for output volume per pumo which means feedback decides what we order for production (from 0,18-0,3ml). Got some real dope shit inside without cancer risk or anything, should be good. Maybe some fishing in /arg/ should be good too, I hope they shoot and not just larp
>>

>I built the WLVRN up in my head a lot, so seeing what it actually is now is just... sad. Shaking my fist at the sky and all that I suppose.
Effectively exactly my feeling. Or perhaps honest confusion, I don't really understand what they were thinking even from a selfish business standpoint. I honestly think just keeping with MDR branding and calling it the gen3 would have been better because it'd have lowered expectations, nobody would be disappointed about lack of revolution there, it'd be a simple story of "look, we understand the problems, and we're steadily chipping away at it as best we can." And they could have waited and had it ready to ship day 1, had long requested caliber options day 1, I dunno, literally hire the ES guy to help them figure out how to do better barrels.

Instead they did this whole rebrand and then kinda, half-assed it? Feels rushed, like it needed to bake for another 6 months but the CEO absolutely insisted it be ready for SS2024 or something. For a big rebrand there should be something ambitious and cool particularly if there will still be issues. That's part of why a lot of us remained, I dunno quite the wording, "resignedly positive" maybe? on the MDR. Because yeah it had issues but it also did ambitious unique stuff and was getting worked on. People were positive on the 2023 changes, lots of real refinements. But rather then nail that down they just sort tossed it.

All very weird. Which usually means the company itself has big internal problems with leadership, personnel retention and culture and shit. Not even going to say it's a cult thing though might be in this case, seen that movie 100 times before at other companies with stuff I liked that squandered it way way WAY bigger then DT lol.
>>
>>61596115
What are you looking for in testing? Just general use?
Also, when you say rust inhibitor, this'll sound weird, but what does it smell like? Before I became an actual fed, I worked at a manufacturing services company that would clean paint racks then send them off and we would always dunk them in this rust inhibitor shit that smelled like rotten asshole, and I rather not have my guns smelling like that for even a second :(
>>
>>61596195
"Resignedly positive" or maybe "hopeful but indifferent" or something like that is a good phrase.
I won't be SURPRISED if Black Rain's bullpup turns out to be vaporware nothingness, but I'm not gonna be cynical and mad about it as I'd LIKE for it to come to market.

Hell, look how long it took for Olympus Arms to make their long-recoil Vulcan AR10 thing. I remember the old TFB articles where it was still in the white and all and would check back in on it now and again. Now look at it, you can *theoretically* buy it for like, $12k or whatever-the-fuck ridiculousness.

Like general usage, using it on the BCG, inside, outside and bon-chemical bore cleaning. Lets say no rules, I made sure its safe so you can just try it out. Rust inhibitor means the product is 100% to prevent rust in a special application. You know we got Gold Guard (nano-arms-com) which leaves a military/Cosmoline hardore finish on metall but that is not useful within the bore since its just to heavy, tacky or waxy. The bore version got heavy changed, chemicals switched and more so its able to form a film that wont blow your barrel off but still offers more than a gun oil. Its like real oily and dries to a lubrication grease afer weeks. Also the smell is pretty much nothing. Some products just smell, for example amine based (fishy) inhibitors or Esters (like car shop)

Another sign of their weird situation is their website, they did this whole big redo and yeah it's much more professional now and the foundations are clearly more modern, but months and months later they still haven't migrated over tons of really basic shit like manuals or item descriptions or whatever. This is doc monkey stuff you could literally have a highschool intern do at around minimum wage, they don't have to write anything new just go through the item db and copy back in specs and descriptions and titles. Yet nothing. It's not malicious or lazy or anything, just a sign of internal dysfunction/churn. People are building but not maintaining.

I still like the fundamentals and feel of their guns a lot. And unlike Black Vapor they've at least fucking shipped products, consistently. But there's been lots of companies where I liked the product ideas but then had them ultimately become unacceptable in terms of implementation. Anyway they have managed to stick around quite awhile at this point so somehow maybe they'll keep doggedly going along and sort of unfuck their shit a little.

What are some of /brg/'s most painful waits for stuff, and anyone having something right now? I'm waiting on a barrel and optic and finding is surprisingly painful even compared to my last suppressor that took 9 months. I was quoted 6-16 weeks so a big range, and only just hit the earliest time it might ship, so objectively it's totally unreasonable to check email a few times a day. If it took another month that's be right in the middle. But damn is hard to avoid the anticipation, also because right now I've got a rare vacation period and the weather is beautiful for shooting this time of year.

I'll get over it but fuggg, patience is hard sometimes when you get used to the faster pace of modern life. I guess it's good to get a reminder sometimes what a luxury that is really, back in the day weeks to months was more the rule then the exception.

gaytube is broken because they need to try to make the frogs gay (un-ironically). You will search for something and get completely unrelated topics. It's intentional. If your algorithm is tailored to you already it is less bad but if it isn't you can search for something and get literal brainwashing faggotry.

So that's why you can't search for you guntoobers any more. I couldn't find that video of the guy ripping on the broken bullpup spring without searching his name in an actual search engine.

I've got one, it's a great mid-range battle rifle. They're a safer bet than a lot of the cheap AR10s out there- PSA PA-10s, ruger SFARs, BC-10s, hell even radical has an "AR-10" (that probably disassembles after 50 rounds). Feels sturdy, cycles extremely reliably, eats whatever I put through it except cheap polymer-tipped ammo, recoil is a breeze, pretty damn accurate. Just go into a Stag 10 knowing you'll have to upgrade the trigger and charging handle, which are mil-spec (see: trash), and you'll probably want to swap out the muzzle brake for something else.

IIRC with Stags the main thing is that a stag lower is only compatible with a stag upper, but if you want to you can swap out everything else.

The lifetime warranty on barrels is nice.

I don't regret mine at all. I love it.

Nice, unrelated here too but got my new bipod last week also. Will have almost everything together for my long dream rifle... except the fucking barrel. Looking at the thing almost done but not a piece I need to do any shooting at all is painful.

Also, not entirely unrelated to brg, I am irritated by how hard it is to find decently long cases/packs. Everyone seems to design this shit to be as short as possible, so it won't fit a full size battle rifle or bolt, or won't fit a shorter one with a suppressor attached. If something is 3+ ft already just give me another 5 fucking inches jesus.

Not for this one, but I mean yeah absolutely I can just take off the suppressor at least. But I'm just irritated it's necessary, it's one extra step and when I'm direct threading I'd prefer to just be able to use some blue loctite and really not have to think about the can coming loose. If this is was some big thing I could understand, but it'd be cheap to just have an expanding pocket or something to give a little more room if one wanted. Just a little irritating is all, not a big deal.

>>
Anyone worth a shit make lower receivers compatible with Armalite A-Model uppers? (LMT monolithic, KAC, etc)
>>
>>61604357
I can understand when it gets truly, truly niche and bigger/weighter, like king of 2 mile or the like and they're using really long beefy barrels, plus everything starts to get heavy enough that they're going to specific places and doing significant setup, there's big glass, big spotting glass, big boolet etc. But when OAL (including any can) is <=45" and you're keeping the weight down, not talking a 20lb gun here, feels like there should be more options for taking it out innawoods for a week or two? Or at least overnight with a few miles worth of hiking anyway? Dunno. I'm 100% certain there must be some options out there for rifle backpacks that aren't ultra compact, but it's just apparently more niche then I expected is all so I've had more trouble tracking it down.

I guess honestly this is making it clear(er) that yeah, truth is I'm the fucking weirdo vs folks just going to the range.
>>
>>61604444
Checked, and yeah, it really seems niche, as I know even 100L bags aren't that big, and anything bigger basically turns into a large camp duffel sorta thing.
I suppose if you don't wanna try your hand at making one yourself, you could try and improvise with, like, those huge duffels I see people bring to the airport every so often that I swear you could fit a dead body into. I think they're like, 50"+. Sounds like a pain to carry though, looks like it too considering the way those folk walk through the airport, kek.

Decent, and the FALO runs better than my normal FAL I got from DSA a few years before. I just had it out this past week in the rain for two shooting days this past week, and it held up better than all my other guns that were in the rain.

The failing point I've found tends to be mags, since FAL mags can be finnicky. Fortunately for me, my 30 rounder works flawlessly with the FALO.

Worst case, if there is some real problem with the FAL, DSA's customer service seems to be good from what I've heard.

I might. Although lol, no sooner do I say that but thread prompted me to check around again and this time actually found a single placed that has an interesting approach. Still not a full pack, but 34" worth of "sheath" and the rifle can stick out the top, and at that point you could just stick any old rain cover over the whole thing for weather I guess. Gonna have to do some reading this weekend and see if I can find anyone who has used one, and whether it's actually an ok backpack or not. The sheath part is sold separately though too and would save some time making something maybe.

Still can't find a single other place, but that's something.

start him on something light, but not so light that he finds it boring. You want to make sure he gets his form down right before you move him to bigger things that could actually hurt if he holds things wrong.

My go-to starter gun for new shooters is the M1 carbine, since it's small and light and super forgiving, but has just enough recoil and noise to feel like you're shooting a real gun.

From there, a lot depends on what he can handle. Standing is easiest recoil-wise, but if he's shooting battle rifles he might struggle to hold a gun on target offhand.

First time I went shooting I was given a basic lesson on firearms safety, shown proper grip and stance, had the basics of trigger manipulation demonstrated. Then I was handed a Beretta 96 and told to go to town. Everything worked out just fine.

Not a smart plan. Even adult have a hard time learning firearms.
>>
>>61612041
I think at some point you have to give kids a chance to demonstrate that they can handle potentially dangerous tasks/objects responsibly, and then trust them to do it. Otherwise you end up with the adults I see today who can't do anything for themselves because they were never allowed to try. Also obviously my uncle didn't just hand me a pistol and walk off whistling dixie. He stood within arms reach and fed me magazines and advice until he was confident I could be trusted, then he moved to the next lane to do his thing.

Does anyone know how to clean the gas system on an AG-42B/Hakim? Is it even necessary since there are no moving parts? I've tried to disassemble it, but the screw holding the gas tube in place on my AG-42 won't budge at all.

I haven't found a single video online detailing neither the disassembly nor cleaning of the gas system. All I can find is a single forum post from 2007 from a guy saying he had to use a hydraulic press to unscrew his gas system.

2 to ~4x lower end, then 18 to 27x upper is a pretty classic useful 100-1000 range without breaking the bank, though your budget is so high you can still afford to get pretty damn nice glass within that. 20s is certainly a fun gun with solid accuracy and should easily get you to 800, 1000 is a little harder with 308 but the right loads will get you there too.

Honestly at that budget the normal optic advice applies: really try to find a local place that will let you get behind a lot of stuff and buy from them. When you're spending a few thousand you can get extremely nice quality from a lot of different players, so much more comes down to IRL taste in eyebox, adjustments, how well they maintain quality over their mag range (even some high end stuff has a notable reduced light transmission change in the upper 75% say), and reticle which is super personal taste.

>>
>>61619475
Definitely more difficult then. I'd double check if there's really nothing around, and by around I mean "even within like an hour or two drive". If we're talking a couple of grand on glass that's a purchase I'd put some effort into.

That said yeah for a lot of us it's just impossible to see much variety in person, not even within a day's drive, unless we luck out or really plan it on some bigger trip. In that case nothing for it but to do some serious research trying to find a lot of real reviews, like on snipershide, maybe even barfcom though they're a brownells blog basically. Video reviews aren't useless, but remember it's super hard to get accurate video though an optic without specialized equipment, camera lens have their own optics that aren't the same as an eye.

I wish there were better objective organized reviews for optics vs everyone having to comb through forums and ask for other people's limited impressions, but that's a hard problem in all areas of consumer life.

Man they're so pricey, are they worth it?

Will a streamlight protac get killed by the recoil of an AR10?
>>
>>61621394
My Streamlight HLX PRO has survived 400 rounds of surplus M80 through my SCAR 17S so far.
Depends on the gun. My gf's AR-10 shipped with Lancer mags as the original mags and they lock up really tight and have been quite robust. They engage the last round bolt hold open consistently. The PMAGs we've tried have been consistent but occasionally the BHO slips and bolt goes flying back home. Think the bolt catch might be a bit undersized, never really got too in depth with trouble shooting.
They all feed reliably and that's what matters the most.

I'm really lazy, so I don't clean my funs until they reach 800+ rounds. I slather on some grease in vital areas then let them rest for 5-6-8 months at a time for the stuff with expensive ammunition. 400rounds of 9mm doesn't hurt so bad. 400rounds of .357 hurts.

Any got at info regarding the ARG3?
The receiver set is $500+ but i haven’t been able to find any proper reviews online despite them being out since 2018. I’ve wanted to build precision AR10 PSG style mock-up as I already have an AR10 albeit with an 18 barrel and LVPO.
There isn’t even much information about monarch arms, the manufacturer.
I’d hate to drop $500 on a receiver set with piss poor QC issues but it’s hard to gauge the quality of them when nobody appears to have bought any.
